Worn out and on the run, Aries Bracken’s life has quickly gone from bad to worse. Kidnapped by a team of mercenaries, she tries to convince their domineering commander that he has taken the wrong woman. She’ll play the helpless female until they slip up and when they do, she’ll be gone!
Skin Walker Commander Conn Drago’s mission was simple, retrieve the woman and deliver her for payment. However, he quickly discovers that not only is the beautiful and spirited Aries not the intended target; she’s also unaware of the fact that she too is a Skin Walker. When Conn realizes others are hunting Aries as well, he can’t fight his compulsion to protect her. He’ll have to battle both her unknown enemies, his own Skin Walker kind, and Aries’ desire to be free to claim what he has decided belongs to him.
My pack territory is in Central Montana, between Stone Crow Estates and the North Fortress. Born and raised in an untamed location that bridges the gap between rolling prairies and majestic mountain peaks, I am born to a family that also bridges the gap between cultures. My father’s people boast a fiercely proud Scandinavian ancestry while my mother’s tribes descend from two savagely beautiful and unique nations (White Clay and Nakoda) that inspire my Skin Walker series.
I'm a huge fan of MMA, boxing, 30 Seconds to Mars, DMX, Nahko and Medicine for the People, and 21 Pilots (“…sometimes quiet is violent”). I also love to read because it encourages me to write. (I hate it when authors add that they love coffee and chocolate. Really? Who doesn't love coffee and chocolate?) Anyway, I love beer...kidding. I don't love beer but we are engaged in a very serious relationship. (Mom, please don't call me when you read this.)

Ok, so this book popped up as a recommended read on Amazon. Normally I ignore these because they are wrong for me. Or it just means I am going to spend more money--in this case I spent more money. I have to say this was a really interesting and unique concept. If I am being totally honest though there are a lot of plot holes on the story. We aren't really explained where the skin walkers come from, nor more detail about the 'halo' we are just told to understand and accept. I think with more books this will be explained or sort of released in the plot. I not then I fear a loss of readership for this series that has huge potential. I think the author needs a few strong beta readers that will force the plot holes close. With that being said I liked it, I liked it alot because the characters were so awesome!!! I am hoping to see more books with Conn's team getting a happy ever after--specifically James, I really liked James!! I you like The Breeds and New Species you will really like this series!!
Wow! I have to thank Future Slayer Girl for recommending (and loaning) this book to me. I absolutely devoured this world and its characters!
Commander Conn Drago is a Skin Walker (shape shifter) and mercenary for hire. He and his men are sent on a mission to retrieve a woman believed to be the sister of the man who hired them. Aries Bracken has been on the run and in hiding for years. She doesn’t know why someone is after her but she knows she must continue to use her wily skills to stay ahead of them and remain alive. Hiding in the jungles of South America, she is captured by Conn and his men and returned to the States for delivery and payment, unaware that she is not the correct person.
Immediately upon making eye contact with Aries, Conn feels a connection and physical reaction that he doesn’t understand. When Conn discovers that Aries is being tracked by others and is in fact a Skin Walker who hasn’t been exposed to that side of herself, he is determined to protect and teach her about the Skin Walker people.
This book delivers some of everything: action, suspense, romance, scorching smexy scenes, and lots of super hot shape shifting alpha males! In other words, I loved it! :)
I cannot wait to read more of this (new-to-me) author and series.
Well, first of this book has to be one of the best of Susan Bliler's work! It has a great story plot and i highly recommend it. One glance at the cover and i really wasn't sure if it was the book for me, but i took a chance and I'm glad i did. This book is a really good romance novel with a great story line. Just don't judge it by it's cover otherwise you will get nowhere. Within this story it has a many characters and is a mixture of love and action with a lot of lust and desire. The start of the book begins with the story of Aries. She is the leading character for this story followed by Conn. When Aries reaches a certain age people begin to search for her. As she does not know why or who she runs. She does this for many years, finally she settles for a house in a jungles believing she is safe. Whiles asleep, Aries hears noises around her and begins to run into the jungle. She is met by Commander Conn. There short introduction starts with her trying to escape whiles the commander and his men hold her captive. This is due to them being sent and being paid to fetch her. The plot continues as they bring her back to a 'shifter' camp. Through there Conn has a deep attraction to Aries, as he goes on to see the doctor to find out what is happening between them. The doctor explains every shifter has an angel. And Aries is his. He tries to o denies it a first but he cannot help but give into it. Aries though does not no of any of this. Another commander on the base takes Aries as prisoner as she knows of them all being 'shifters'. Conn cannot help but feel helpless and tries to defend Aries. As Aries is taken she escapes and Conn finds her. He then later tries to smuggle her though to gates to a house he owns somewhere else in the area. Conn is faced with the problem of not being able to sleep or eat until he has claimed Aries. Aries then catches on to it and calls it the 'rut' for you that knows what that means. Both of them willingly claim each other, though there reasons of doing are not the actual reasons. Aries is then later captures to find out that someone else wants to mate her. Conn is helpless as he is in a deep sleep as he has not slept in days. Hence the part where Aries was taken. The man kidnapping Aries soon see what he has done wrong by taking her then later tells Aries he will release her back at the camp. Conn then is in desperate need for Aries and will do anything to get her back. Though for Aries she wants to see Conn sooner and escapes by a car that later crashes. Conn finds out of the news and goes to see her. He later transfers her to his camp at where he lives and retrieves for her. But by this time there is a tense atmosphere between these characters as they both do not look or talk to each other. When at Conns house he find out a shocking piece of information and later accuses Aries of some things. Aries flips out at him and the battle between these two is fierce. You'll just have to read it to find out what happens later on.
Conn is a very uptight man not willing to settle down at the start. He has a very bad temper and loses his anger within a blink of an eye. Although his charm seems to capture Aries and does not take his s*** as she to is very strong and interdependent. That is why i love these two characters! This story is so good and i recommend it to everyone who likes a good old romance.
This was a fast paced read and continually held my interest, but storyline was a little too predictable and had more of juvenile feel to it.
Pros: * A strong heroine * Original storyline * Fast paced plot
Cons: * Insta-love to an extreme * I didn’t get a feel for the characters - more depth would have been nice * Easily predictable - you knew exactly how everything would play out (it just reminded me of so many other books I've read in the past) * It seemed to lack any sort of dilemma. It was almost too smooth of a plot; some conflict is a good thing
Upon completion I'm just feeling sort of "BLAH". I doubt this will be a series I will continue.
This was the first book written chronologically, but it's a sequel to books that HAVEN'T BEEN WRITTEN YET. Yesssss, annoying... The world-building is slightly more in-depth than in "King" (the first book in the timeline), but with enough dangling plot threads to darn socks with, I am left unsatisfied. I'll probably read everything, but I'll put the series aside until the intervening books are written.
P.S. TYPOS!!! ravished instead of famished... REPEATEDLY, but it was funny so oh, well.
I need more stars for this one! I can't believe how much I loved this book. I will definitely be looking for every book in this series. Susan is now a new favourite author of mine!
Aries! What a Heroine!! Honestly, I read this book quite some time ago. The first book in the series is King: Skin Walkers #1, but I found the second in the series Conn: Skin Walkers #2 and picked it up on a whim. I was so glad I did, as I was really tickled with that book, not because of Conn, the Skin Walker in question, but because of Aries Bracken, the heroine of the piece.Poor Aries, on the run and in hiding for years – and she doesn’t even know why. All she knows is that she is being hunted, tracked down like an animal. She has suffered, using only her own skills, intelligence and willingness to do whatever it takes to stay hidden from whoever is tracking her, doing all she can to stay alive. Why is this happening?Pushed to the limit, Aries finds what she thinks is a safe hiding spot, deep in the jungles of South America. She may be living a meager life, but it is one that she can call her own. All that changes when she is captured by Conn and his men and delivered to StoneCrow Estates in the US in return for payment of his fee for bagging the elusive Aries. But things are not as they seem – for Aries is not the person this particular hunter should have caught. And things are much more complicated than they seem.Aries is a kickin’. Heroine. My favorite scene is when her kidnappers load her onto a helicopter and take off across the jungle . . . only to have her grab a parachute when their backs are turned and bail out! They finally make it to StoneCrow, the bastion of the aforementioned Skin Walkers. Ha! Bad on you, Conn! Wrong girl. Oops.I was going to write a review of the book back then, but before I did so I sent a note to Susan letting her know that I found a considerable number of editorial problems with the book. After correspondence back and forth we came to an agreement – I get to edit all her Skin Walker books! Whoot! All of the Skin Walker series are exceptional Paranormal Romance books in my estimation. Hot guys, strong women, interesting world building and character development. We are working on editing all of the books, the most recent of which is York: Skin Walkers #6. Check out the whole series. You can read them out of order and keep up with the story, but it is MUCH more fun to read them in order! There is a buildup of suspense throughout the series, with unseen bad guys working behind the scenes, and some bad guys that are just as in-you-face as they can possibly be.Highly recommended, even if I wasn’t Susan’s editor! Enjoy!

Aries was running away from an unknown treat. The only thing that she knew was the she was in danger. Conn, was hired to retrieve Aries and he ended up finding "his Angel". Now, the funny part is that Conn fought against the mating with all he had, almost willing to die but he didn't want to let Aries go. Aries, was a contradiction - instead of asking for clarifications and find out maybe way she was chased she just run away.
I loved it but I felt out of place with the action. I was very disappointed that Monroe was mated in this story and I didn't get to read his story prior to Conn's. It didn't make sense to me why Monroe's story is the 4th book on the list and I felt bad for going back to a time when Conn was not in the picture with Aries.
I am guessing that Susan Bliler didn't have a clear picture on where she is going with the series and now she is just adding them up. In the future when all the stories are written she will need to change some facts in the books to get them a meaning because she has great stories to tell. At least for me, please. I will jump to Monroe's story and i hope it makes sense. I am to curious.
3.5 stars (which I rounded down to 3, since I rounded up the other one by this author!) Hmmm. I did enjoy this book, but it pushed a couple of my "annoying" buttons.
Plagiarising your own book. this book Stage four Walkers, like Conn, were much more advanced. They possessed the ability to shift to any form of animal for any length of time. Many believed that Stage four Walkers were psychic; however, it was simply their keen sense of smell that allowed them to read others emotions that gave most the impression.
King Stage four Walkers, like Monroe and King, were much more advanced. They possessed the ability to shift to any animal form for any length of time. Many believed that Stage four Walkers were psychic; however, it was simply their keen sense of smell that allowed them to detect other’s emotions.
Now, it's not a massive one, but these things leap out at me and are annoying. Be original, you want to tell us they have advanced senses, then do it in a different way.
I did enjoy the action scenes, but this book is more of a romance than anything else. There's little to no sex (one main sex scene), and follows the same pattern as King. What was there, lacked passion. Very disappointing. Instead of a hot "we love each other" sex scene as the finale, we get The past six days had been heavenly. Conn moved her into his room and seemingly into his heart. They’d made love so frequently that Aries had lost track, but the best part wasn’t the sex it was waking up in his arms every morning. Disappointing. I can't stand the whole tease and titillate, then fail to deliver, why bother writing a romance, write something else if you can't deliver on the physical manifestation of lust/love. Of course, this is just my opinion.
Personally, I prefer hot sex and a good action storyline. Others will be happy enough with what is offered, but for me this book's more in the realm of "mills and boon".
Well I was pleasantly surprised by this book! Do not let the cover fool you....it is a paranormal romantic adventure.
Aries is on the run and has been for three years from an unknown enemy. Suddenly she's corned and has no way of escape, but its a new enemy that she faces-Conn. Conn is a Skin Walker, which means he can shift into animal form...any animal. There is an instant, unknown connection between them and Aries is pushed into a new world where Conn is her protector and she is his "angel".
My only complaint is that I didn't feel like they communicated enough....at the end Conn mentions that he smelt her fear and knew she wanted more of a relationship with him...well why didn't you speak up and save the reader some frustration?
Overall a strong 3.5 star rating. If you are a fan of Lora Leigh's Breeds series, I think you'll like this book. It's not as "hot" but it is good! I've got my fingers crossed for a story about King....he needs a Queen to put him in his place!
How to say this? It wasn't a good read, it wasn't a bad read, it was just a read. That's the best I can do. The plot idea was great. The story idea of Walkers was also great. But both lacked development. In truth the book was action with no passion. As for the grammar; well all the other reviews said it, get a new editor.
SPOILERS. Now two things that really got to me: 1. The rut issue, claim her or rape her - I am so not ok with this. I've read many books were male had to claim female and never was the conscious rape if he didn't. Sick! 2. A man stalks and terrifies you for over three years and what do you do? Forgive him, make good guy promise not to kill bad guy after you get hurt because of bad guy. Weak! END SPOILERS.
Not sure if I will continue with this series. If I do it will just be a filler while I'm waiting for another author's books.
This was an amazing book, it was just It was a fantastic book and I didn't expect for this book that has such a dramatic twist in it, and that's where I really enjoyed this book. I loved Conn and Aries, they were an adorable couple and I loved it when she escaped from Conn. It's weird that I really liked that part but I really enjoyed it when the female characters take the male character by surprise and how he was really possessive over her. In the books, it seems really, extremely cute but if that happened in real then it would be a totally different scenario.
Susan A. Bliler’s “Conn” –Book 1 of the “Skinwalkers” series—is an action packed paranormal adventure filled with erotic thrills, sexy shifter hunks, and alarming danger at every turn. Ms. Bliler creates a complex cast of intriguing primary and secondary characters with mystical abilities and carnal impulses. Bliler’s writing style employs vivid imagery, which places the reader in the story feeling the pain, the anger, and the pleasure as though he or she were there. The action in “Conn” is swift and hard-core from the first page keeping the reader fascinated until the very end. Although “Conn” is an intensely erotic story, the sensuality does not detract from the story’s sentimentality. Ms. Bliler’s “Conn” is an excellent start to a promising new series.
Conn is the fifth book in the Skin Walker series and focuses on Commander Conn Drago and Aries. The Commander and his team are sent out to retrieve Aries because she is believed to be the missing sister of the Skin Walkers. And since this is PNR you can guess what happens.
The thing is I did not really like the book. Aries is a funny character and I liked her but then she turns into a whimpering idiot. Is that a thing to be in love you have to loose sense of yourself? Anyway there is so much missing. The plot holes are truck size there is a lot missing in terms of character development and it is a lot cliché. Then it ends. If I read this book first I would have never read another. Hopefully they are being reproduced out of order or something because this one was the worst of the bunch.
What I didn't know was this is the second book in the series. It definitely would have helped to know that.
A fee editing errors, but none that took away from the story for me.
The concept of the book was great and original. The characters were both likable. However, neither one really held my attention.
What did take away from the story was the feeling that it was rushed. I read such good recommendations from the amazon boards that I'm completely confused as to why they thought this book was so good. It definitely had potential, but I'm not in a hurry to read the next book in the series, nor am I remembering enough about the book to even write this review. Quick easy read 3 stars.
I liked the romance between Conn and Aries as well as the hot, possessive, alpha traits. I'm kind of new to the PNR world and I had just adjusted to shifters that shifted to just one animal, like a wolf. It kind of goes beyond my fantasy to understand being able to shift into any type of animal. Like I said this was a good alpha/romance with a pretty smart/strong h.
Aries has been on the run for 3 years now , not knowing why these men have been chasing her. She has no family or friends she can go to, she is on her own. For some reason she has deep down this feeling that something is different about her. Con and his crew caught Aries, but to his surprise this woman sure keep these men on their toes. She has gotten away a few times, she is fast and smart but not fast enough to out run skin walkers. Aries was caught and brought to Stonecrow cause everyone assumed she was Mason's lost sister, but they were all wrong. Con was confused from the very first moment he seen Aries, he felt attraction, possessiveness, did not want others around or touching her. Not knowing he was afflicted, he has met his Angel his "One"
I absolutely loved this book.. could not put it down, and i was entertained all through out. The connection between these two was hot but they tried to fight it not knowing what was really going on. Love this series and cant wait to start the next book
I am re-reading this series by publication date rather that the book #, just like I did when I first read this book back in 2013, 8 years and 19 books later and I am still enjoying them. When I first started reading digital books I didn't review them much. Didn't really think anyone would find my review interesting or helpful. Now, I read two or three books a week, and try to review each one good or bad (really try not to post negative reviews, if possible). The author created an amazing world. Mystical, sexy and full of action. While I found a couple of typos, not enough to bring me out of the moment and the writing is so well done that you get sucked into the world and characters. Strong, independent women finding strong and sensitive men who help make the world around them click into place. Conn and Aries are an incredible match. Finding their home in not a place but a who. Going through new experiences are always fun and educational, but much more exciting when shared. Highly recommend each book in this series. Well worth your time and $$
This book will pull every emotion that you feel out into the open while reading this unique and riveting storyline!
I absolutely loved reading this unique and lovingly crafted storyline that will make you laugh and cry and love every minute of it! The only thing that I wish for is books 3 & 4 to make it complete!
Such a strong woman to be the mate of any equally strong alpha male. The author takes us on a wild ride with this book. There are kidnappings, enemies, angels, injuries and so many twists and turns that without her expert guidance we would never find our way to the HEA. This is another must read book and I can’t wait to read the next book in the series.
I've reread Conn book so many times and still fall in love with the story all over again. This is a type of book you can never get tired of. The whole Skin Walker series is a great read. Love going back and rereading them. Happy Reading! 📚
I love this series. So much that I have been getting all the books in the series. This is such an unusual story. The Walkers (short for skin walkers) can take the forms of animals. I especially liked the heroine. At the start of the story she had been running from a stalker for years. Then a group of men come after her and capture her and she finds out about walkers and they take her to a place where there are a lot of walkers. She almost manages to escape many times, earning the respect of her captors. Love it
So again the cover so misleading. When i first saw this cover i scuffed and said no thank you i don't do war books because thats an army man, with a huge ass gun and my my things yes that is a war book even if its called Skin Walkers. And i know that Skin Walker is another term that is used for werewolves, well not in this book, in this book it means that they are shape shifters who can change into any animal, and they have an animal instinct like werewolves usually do. So going to review now...
I looked at this after just finishing Susan's other book Territory and i have also read Prince of Cats both were awesome, i recommend you check them as well. Anyways this reminded me somewhat of Territory, not in the this is the same story with two different characters because its not. I think it was just because of the same setting, and sort of the same idea.... an seemingly unwilling male but my God does he take the cake for possessive-ness and protectiveness. Anyways the PLOT is interesting enough mostly its the story about this boy and this girl, conflict between the two and the conflict within themselves. I didn't mind this but the villain became very anti-climatic and kind of just fell flat. He was there to prose a problem...anyways moving on from that.
The characters were interesting enough to read about and since i had just read a different book by Susan in the same day i can honestly say that her characters weren't the same people just with different names and in a different book.
Aries was strong willed, and pretty much kickass right off the bat, and throughout the book she becomes vulnerable and grows into a more rounded character. She isn't scared to prove that she can take care of herself, and when i surely would have given up (mostly because i am lazy) she keeps going. She has been running three (maybe four years) from someone who has been trying to get her, she doesnt know the person, doesn't know why they are after her.
Conn is like i said before possessive, protective, an asshole, and um interesting. He is hired to go after and get Aries. Though he is not the person who she keeps escaping from, he is brought in to get her. They don't really clear that up to each other outright and it sort of bothered me, that it didn't seem like much of an issue until way later after the fact... anywho, what to say about him? he has a super scar, and scars are hot....um not the point i know. He was an interesting character and he softened around Aries much like another character i know but....um moving on....
Okay so there was a lot of potential for other things that could have happened in this book. The reasoning behind her constant pain seemed like the easy way out...i mean i am split about it because i didn't want it to be like "of course she is going to die from sometype of disease" but at the same time... i don't know, there could have been more with it. More than that there is in the introduction of a other super villain/organization that could have been explored and brought in but we gloss over them and they just didn't really seem to matter.... So that is mostly why this got 4 instead of five, along with my realization that Conn is a lot like another character from her other story they aren't the same i see that but they are similar.....
So okay its late and i am doing a semi bad job on this review so take my word for it, that usually i can be somewhat entertaining but Don't Ever Trust the Cover! EVER! anyways you should since reading through this review check out how i feel about other books, because i know you are interested ;) so check my other reviews here at this blog link! http://theviolethourbookreviews.wordp...
Skin Walkers MF series is an intriguing and a refreshing breath of air in the Paranormal shifter genre. Susan Bliler introduces her series with Conn Drago a man of integrity and dominant in his world. Trusted by his Alpha Monroe and followed by his elite warriors with no questions. Together they attempt to create a safe haven for their kind. As expected this series has an arch enemy called the Megalya, a Scientific based group that will go above and beyond to capture and destroy the Skin Walkers under the guise of saving humanity. Mercy and kindness is not in there nature. The odds against the Skin Walkers is high but this group of strong men and women are capable to withstand the constant attacks as they fight for the right to live. All is not bad in there world because fate has given each of them an Angel to bond with their Halo, a band worn around their necks given to their fated mate . This Halo system is of the utmost importance to the Skin Walkers. Now we meet Aries Bracken she has been written as a smart sassy strong woman with a high level of survival instincts and overly developed independent strain. For as long as she can remember she felt out of place with a sense of missing something just out of her reach and has helped her as she lives on the run. The energy and chemistry between these two is like landing on a live wire. As readers we enjoy the frenetic merry chase through South Americas city and Jungle and what a fun adventure it is. This author has created a world that is captivating and erotically charged you will be feeling the heat for sure. (The only confusion I had was the sequence book numbers listed on Amazon seems off.

Book description: Aries Bracken in hiding in South America, knows someone is after her but not sure who or why. That's the first place I felt needed more explanation. Okay I get she's hiding, but is she just crazy paranoid? What would make her move so often& have multiple getaway plans? In comes Commander Conn Dragos and his mercenary crew paid to kidnap her. Conn has to get Aries to Mason, a fellow Skin walker who believes she is his sister. Again, I need to know more- why does Mason want her so badly, does she have something of his, are their parents looking for her? Once her and Conn are together he is "afflicted " which means he needs to claim Aries or he won't be able to sleep, eat, or think about anything else. He claims her as his "angel"(his mate) and gives her his "halo" (necklace that allows the mate Skin walker powers). Of course they deny their true feelings- both in love but playing coy. Enter the bad guy- Remy kidnaps Aries to get revenge on Mason. Aries discovers she is Skin Walker, can shift to any animal. After being rescued she has to deal with her changes, while completing the mating with Conn. We do get a satisfying HEA , but I think it was rushed a little.
All that being said, yes I'd read more from this author, and yes I'd recommend this series with the hope of better things to come.
