The Restrictions of Cora

Rate this book
Unbeknownst to nearly everyone around her, Cora Mitchell has been living in a nightmare for the past two years. Night after night, her parents’ arguments escalate into heated screaming matches, leaving seventeen-year-old Cora to handle damage control—and forcing her to become the only adult in the house. As her parents’ rage intensifies, so does her longing to shun her mom and dad, forget about their emotional and mental abuse, and leave her godforsaken hometown of Portland, Maine, behind.

That is, until one fateful night during an impulsive moment at a local gig, where she meets Jeremiah Novak. Jeremiah is the alluring bass player that Cora can’t seem to get out of her head. But there’s one Jeremiah is older than Cora . . . like, lie-to-your-parents older.

Their attraction to each other is undeniable, but are they just too different to make it work?
Will her friends and family approve?
Will this be what tears apart Cora’s family beyond repair?

Although Jeremiah is Cora’s first love, he helps her on the path of self-discovery, giving Cora the strength and courage to set herself free from the restrictions her selfish parents have placed upon her. Their attraction to each other is undeniable, but it might not be enough to overcome high school drama and mean-girl jealousy.

This was such a cute, quick romance. I couldn't put it down. I loved all of the early 2000's references - So nostalgic!

This was such a fantastic debut! A modern feel good book full of 2000s high school nostalgia that was both heart warming and heart wrenching. An extraordinarily reminiscent story of my own life in so many ways too.

Cora is a 17 year old girl in her senior year of high school when she meets Jeremiah Novak one night at a concert. Dreamy, sweet as can be, and also 22. Cora is going through some things in life including her parents divorce when she meets Miah. While, I never remember my parents together, therefore no divorce, they did not like each other and my mother (god rest her soul) was an alcoholic so that I can relate too. I can also relate to the fact that my first boyfriend at 17 was also not a high school student. Jeremy, he was only 19 vs 22. Still, I can relate to that as he actually finished school early, had his own place, and was working. Also, the Christmas visit with his family?? Literally my life! 🤯 Jeremy was the most respectful man I’ve probably ever been with.

I loved this story! Outside of how reminiscent it was and nostalgic, the story itself was great. A story of personal growth and overcoming challenges, new love and first love, grief and loss. I loved the characters. While Cora had her moments of being petty, she was young and still way more mature than most at that age. And Miah! I loved how Miah tried to help with her mothers drinking problem. He was so respectful, so compassionate, and truly observant. We all need a Miah in life! Did I tear up on several occasions during this book? Yes, yes I did. This book gave me all the feels, and I had to wipe tears away over that ending. 🥹 It’s hard growing up. And it’s especially hard as a teenager when you’re forced to be an adult and go through things without any guidance. This book speaks to those people who’ve gone through that.

This was the absolute PERFECT BOOK to get me out of this stupid slump I’ve been in!! I’m also super glad i took my time reading it because i could fully absorb this totally adorable story. The first thing that caught my eye was ALL of the early 2000 references in this book! The MySpace mentions and bands like paramore and blink 182. The teenage angst and real issues of a teenager forced to grow up to fast because their parents were getting a divorce. Cora and her best friend Taylor felt so close to me and my child/still best friend now. I smiled and cried while reading through this book. Cora really reminded me so much of myself, and Jeremiah was the ULTIMATE golden retriever. Them working through their romance and issues again felt so much like what we went through in high school in the early 2000’s. There wasn’t much spice in this book but i honestly didn’t miss it at all. I was so invested in Cora and her story, her and Miah’s romance, her parent’s drama and high school/getting ready for college. I also really enjoyed the slight age gap between Jeremiah and Cora. Cora was a super mature almost 18 year old and Jeramiah was a super respectful and talented 22 year old who was absolutely smitten with Cora.

This book is on kindle unlimited and only $10 on Amazon and if you’re local to Buffalo i also have SIGNED copies of this book at my store @thecrackedspine_buffalo

I lovedd this book so much. The timeline drew me in immediately. Also the storyline of this was too good I basically read this in one sitting I just kept going back in for more. Following Cora and her struggles with her family and relationships definitely draws readers in and will resonate with many ♥︎ The girl falling for the rockstar vibe is everything. I overall just love how well the author did the time period of the book and gave us a couple to love!

More of a 2.5⭐️ but I rounded up. I truly could not get over the age gap- I just wish she was at least legal 🥲 and reading it as a 23 year old all I could think about was how any 22 year old can think 17 is okay 😵‍💫 I know when you are a teen it is “cool” but looking back 17 is a baby no matter how mature- it just distracted me from the story 🫡

But it was a quick easy read! I got a cookie from the author that was amazing when I purchased it from a local book fair. And I will be honest I was rooting for them at the end in spite of the dad. I like having a character to hate and the dad was definitely that. I feel bad for the mom especially at the end with how things went down.

The Restrictions of Cora is heart-warming romance, featuring seventeen-year-old Cora and super-hot love interest, Jeremiah, who is twenty-two.

Rest assured you don’t need to be a teenager to enjoy this book! I was captivated by Cora and Jeremiah, their stories taking me on a journey back in time, to the painful angst of one’s first love, and those difficult high school years.

The chemistry between the two main characters is spectacular, with punchy writing, witty dialog, and some sizzling scenes which are sure to take your breath away.❤️🔥

Cora and Jeremiah are falling in love, whilst also navigating everyday drama of family life, grief, divorce, anger and insecurity. Author, Kristie Price, handles these issues with thought and care, incorporating an awesome cast of supporting characters who pull the story together beautifully.

In particular, the very lovable and scene-stealing Taylor!😍

A really cool, coming of age story, which gave me ‘The Secret of Ella & Micha’ vibes.

Highly recommend!
