পাবলো কে নিয়ে আমার আগ্রহ তৈরি হয় পাবলো নেরুদার লেখা কবিতার বই "ভালোবাসার শত সনেট" এর মাধ্যমে। যদিও সব কবিতা পড়া হয়নি। এখানের কবিতাগুলো পাবলো তাঁর প্রেমিকা, তাঁর সবসময়ের সঙ্গী মাতিলদে কে নিয়ে লিখেছিলেন। যে কটা কবিতা পড়েছিলাম তাতে মনে হয়েছিলো একটা মানুষ ভালোবাসার কোন পর্যায়ে গেলে এমন করে কবিতা লিখতে পারে।
বিশ্বসাহিত্যের একজন নামকরা কবির জীবন কেমন হতে পারে, তা জানতে এই বইয়ের কাছে দ্বারস্থ হওয়া। বিশ্বসাহিত্য কেন্দ্রের ভ্রাম্যমাণ লাইব্রেরী তে বইটা পেয়ে হাতছাড়া করিনি। এর পরের যাত্রা এত সুন্দর আর সুমিষ্ট হয়েছিলো সে এক একটা চ্যাপ্টার শেষ হলে থেমে যেতাম। আর সাথে তাঁদের অনুভব করতাম। মাতিলদে যখন পাবলোর সাথে প্রথম দেখা করার স্মৃতি বলছিলো তখন আমার মানসপটে ভেসে উঠছিলো সেই দৃশ্য যেনো কোনো সিনেমার রিল।
কোনো একটা দেশে একজন লেখক বা কবি কতটা শক্তিশালী হয়ে উঠতে পারে বা সেই দেশের সরকার এর কাছে একটা আতঙ্ক হতে পারে, পাবলো নেরুদা একটা উদাহরণ হতে পারে। একটা নির্দিষ্ট সময় পর্যন্ত পাবলো নিজের দেশে ঠাঁই পাননি। বিশ্বের বিভিন্ন দেশে বিভিন্ন শহরে লুকিয়ে ঘুরঘুর করতে হয়েছে। বিভিন্ন সময় কত বাধার সম্মুখীন হয়েছিলেন। সরকারি লোকেরা বা গোয়েন্দারা তাঁর পিছু নিয়েছেন যেখানেই যান না কেন। এসবের মাঝেও দিব্যি প্রেম করেছেন মাতিলদের সঙ্গে। একটাবারও প্রেমিকাকে হাতছাড়া করেননি।
পাবলো কে নিয়ে এমন স্মৃতিকথা যা রাজনীতি, কবিতা, ভ্রমণ, দেশ, আড্ডা সবকিছুর মিলমিশ হয়ে এমন আকার ধারণ করেছে যেনো মনে হয়ে হয় পাবলোর সেই ইস্লা নেগ্রার বাড়িটির মতো এক মূর্তমান ইতিহাস।
অনুবাদক এর কথা না বললেই নয়। এমন ঝরঝরে অনুবাদ, আমার একটা বারও মনে হয়নি যে অনুবাদ পড়েছি বরং মনে হয়েছে, মাতিলদে বাংলাতেই তাঁর স্মৃতিকথা লিখে গেছেন।

I wish this book were better written, so that I could give it the five stars I so wanted it to deserve. The content is rich and often beautiful, but Urrutia was no writer. She lived well and she loved well, and that ought to have been enough. She did the world a great service by preserving her husband's memoirs and seeing to the preservation of his unpublished works. Still, it was not time wasted to read her book, if only for the vivid pictures she described of Neruda at work and play, to say nothing of her account of life under Pinochet's regime, which also needed to be told and shared.

Este libro es un legado maravilloso de una época donde Chile, mi país natal, fue transformado en una cárcel. La historia de Matilde y Pablo, sus viajes por el mundo, el enfrentamiento de Matilde con la nueva realidad de miedo y persecusión... Todo contado desde la perspectiva de una mujer que hasta el último de sus días estuvo enamorada de "Su Capitán".
Es un libro precioso, sobre todo para los chilenos que estamos lejos de nuestra Patria... Es un viaje por casonas de Chillán, es un reencuentro con tortillas de rescoldo, es caminar por Santiago, es leer y comprender la poesía escrita de Neruda.

Didn't finish. Bleak, death, political upheaval, communism, extra marital affairs. Once I learned enough to see what was real in this romantic poets life I wasn't interested. Affair with Matilde for years while still married. Then had affairs with others while married to Matilde.

While this is not a new book, it's a which in a large way inspired me to create my poetry chapbook, AN IMAGINARY AFFAIR. Neruda's poems have moved me during so many times in my life, his passion and love for being in love leave the reader awestruck.
We have a chance in this book to get inside the heart and soul of Urrutia who was Neruda's lover, muse, wife, and eventually his widow. While the political climate of Chile often made their life challenging, in reading this book, the reader gets a sense of what it's like to spend time with Neruda, an experience I certainly would have loved to have.
Urrutia has been described as having a Bohemian streak. In talking about Neruda, she says, "Pablo was a chronicler of his era. Everything he experienced, in one way or another, ended up documented in his poetry. When I read his poetry, she adds, I remember parts of our life that I had forgotten. But the thing that really stands out in his work—because of his great devotion to its Chile." (p. 274). She went on to say how much she admired his spirit of mischief-making and joking, even during his most solemn and significant life moments. This is certainly an art we can all learn from.

Si quieres leer este libro para saber más sobre la vida de Neruda, lamento decirte que este no es tu libro. Es más sobre la vida de Matilde en su vida de casada, que de Pablo. Nos habla de cómo era su relación, pero siento que después de leer este libro conozco todo de Matilde y nada de Pablo. Es un libro lleno de amor, de tristeza y rabias. Es muy político y al mismo tiempo muy tranquilo.
Creo que es lindo ver como la gente describe a sus seres queridos y sobre eso es este libro. Sin embargo, todas esas palabras de amor hablan más sobre ella, que de Pablo.
Al inicio pensé que estaba escrito por un ghost writer por la exactitud de la narración, pero después ella misma dice que tenía un diario de la época y debe ser por eso su modo de escribir. No es poético, pero está bien escrito y la manera de estructurar la historia me gustó mucho. Me gusta como enlaza los momentos tristes con los felices.

Desde mi visita a isla negra, quería saber más de la vida de Pablo Neruda y Matilde. La verdad no sabia mucho de esta mujer y este libro me ha fascinado desde un principio, aunque siento que me he quedado con gusto a poco. Pablo sin dudar, fue una persona controversial pero no hay duda que fue muy peculiar y por una parte es muy gratificante saber que de sus múltiples relaciones amorosas, al parecer logro hacer si vida con alguien que lo amaba y lo admiraba mucho. Matilde me pareció una mujer valiente y auténtica con un gran corazón y una forma de ver y vivir la vida, y en este libro se puede conocer más en profundidad. Es una memoria muy fácil de leer, que me dejo con una sensación de querer saber más de esta pareja.

বইখানা আন্দালিব রাশদীর অনুবাদে পড়লাম। দুর্দান্ত অনুবাদ। এতটাই দারুণ যে, মাতিলদে উরুটিয়া নিজেও এত ভালো লিখতে পেরেছিলেন কিনা সন্দেহ হচ্ছে।

i very much enjoyed this book. it is full of the foreign, happiness, sorrow, and poetry. i was particularly taken with how much Neruda loved objects. it is a fascinating trait and evident in his poems. i also enjoyed the literary "tour" through their homes. neruda could give lessons on living joyfully.

The intensity of Pablo and Matilde's love, Neruda's love for his country, and the horrors of life in Chile after September 11, 1973 are some of the threads running through this book. It is a must-read for anyone that has read Neruda's memoirs, Confieso que he vivido.

Los recuerdos de Matilde Urrutia, la última esposa del poeta chileno, cubren el tramo final de la vida de Neruda. El libro me pareció sesgado y con la impresión que deja de lado muchos temas que hoy son objeto de discusión y de los cuales Urrutia fue testigo directo.
