A third pocket-sized collection of play-themed Simon's Cat cartoons selected from the first three Simon's Cat books. In full colour (on compatible devices) and featuring a selection of brand new cartoons, Simon's Cat is back, smaller, cheaper and cuter, but still up to his usual tricks.
NB: Although the cover states 'Simon's Cat' before the 'Play Time!' title, the title page of the book simply states 'Play Time!' and that is therefore how it is catalogued.
Simon started drawing cartoons at an early age and went to study Graphics and Animation at De Montfort University. He has a great interest in British wildlife, painting, the great outdoors and of course cats. He now works in London as an animator and director at Tandem Films. Simon lives in Bedfordshire with this three cats: Hugh, Maisie, Jess and Teddy.
This books covers the lives of 2 different cat... well I guess there was only 1 main cat character. This is a comic book of sorts with each page or 2 is a different scene. I can't believe I found this book in my library, not to mention in the adult section... This book is absolutely hilarious! I could not stop laughing. Even if there was a page/scene that I didn't find I found myself still laughing from the previous page and then the following one.
I would recommend this book to anyone who loves cats, has a cat, or just needs a pick up from a bad day.
A delightful little picture book, that captures the essence of a cat and what it is like to share your life and home with felines of all shapes, sizes and ages.
I usually enjoy cat books immensely but unfortunately this one has left me a little cold. Perhaps it is because I can't seem to establish empathy with Simon's cat.
In this collection of cartoons the cat is in a playful, mischievous mood, much to Simon's disgust ... and often testing Simon's pain threshold with violent attacks. And there often seem to be two cats involved, presumably one a friend of the main protagonist.
My favourite cartoon of the lot is the one where Simon proudly builds and displays to the cat a new cat scratcher cum climbing toy cum little house. The cat sits there looking perplexed and then immediately retires to a nearby box of polystyrene bits and begins rolling in them and throwing them all over the room. Yes, sometimes typical cat behaviour exploring new boxes that have arrived in the house!
It is light-hearted and sometimes fun but it did not really capture my wholehearted attention, sorry!
Footnote: Quite by chance I asked my friend Laura later if she had read any Simon's Cat books. She was amazed that I asked this question for only that morning (today 2 May) she had watched a clip of Simon's Cat on You Tube. She brought it up and I watched it and I must confess, it was realistic and funny and I did enjoy it. If I had seen it before reading this book, I might have had a different view of it!
