It's the birthplace of space flight, candlepin bowling and that iconic yellow smiley face. The city was the first in the nation to be fly-free, and the idea for those famously whimsical pink flamingo lawn ornaments was hatched here too.
It's Worcester, Massachusetts, of course! From Pulitzer Prize-winning poets to packaged pizza pie, dive into the amazing history of Worcester, and discover something extraordinary about the unassuming city you thought you knew!

Carolyn "CJ" Posk was born and brought up in Worcester, Massachusetts. After years of living in Denver, she returned and became a strong advocate of Worcester. She has been involved with many groups and organizations in the city.
For the 100th anniversary of North High School, CJ's alma mater, she dedicated herself to filling showcases in the new school with its history and memorabilia, so that all students could visually experience the school pride and spirit that went before them--pride that is still strong in its alumni today.
Although legally blind, CJ has never balked at a challenge. She was determined that local children learn about Worcester's rich history through words and pictures. To spark their interest and curiosity, and to reflect her own love for the city, she has authored this children's book in the hopes that it will develop in them a lifelong appreciation of the city of Worcester.
