The book has some good principles, although too often ideas are a bit overstated ... and there are a lot of common sense principles. The writing style isn't the greatest, but comes across not bad. I'm not into "study books" and quite a few pages are dedicated to that kind of presentation.
Great content! The core message is: have personal relationships with partners. It could have been a bit shorter and clearer, e.g. with the names of the chapters.
Exploring the world of Fundraising is a difficult journey. With it's intricate link to money, relating to people who provide for your livelihood will inevitably result in differences. I appreciated the paradigm shift this book presented in simply living in relationship with all, and seeking to bless all, rather than to be blessed. This is at the heart of all ministry, or even, of Christianity, as far as I can tell, and 'fundraising' is no exception, except, we aren't doing fundraising any more, are we? Why not 5 stars then? For me, it was too formulaic and absolute. It reads as a guarantee and exclusive in it's methods. Minus 1 star. The loss of the 2nd star comes in under the use of the core beliefs. Although they state it plainly, that the Bible assumes simple belief equates with how one acts. (In fact, one could speak of the act of following Jesus as one in the same). And if this is so, why take the step of entangling it with "Core belief" language. it would be enough to share, as they did at the beginning, the simple Biblical perspective of what it is to believe (act) and leave it at that. This was distracting to me as i read through the text.
This was a very good book overall and one I would recommend to any missionary or minister who lives on faith support. It is a very practical and helpful guide to developing relationships with those who partner in one's ministry financially. It seeks to remove finances as the binding factor between the missionary and his donors and place a two-way relationship as that bond. This is not only a more biblical approach, but more successful as well.
The others-focused perspective of this book was refreshing and encouraging. Selfishness and self-centeredness are so easy to wallow in. The idea of long-term partnership and reciprocal ministry was helpful for me.
Great read. Every chapter focused around some way to fulfill the principle, "Show gratitude to those you're partnered with." Really encouraging while being challenging in not abusing your relationships and focusing on being a good friend instead of a good "fund raiser."
