Hidden Depths

Rate this book
She is pierced, dyed and tattooed, born on the wrong side of the tracks. He is a traditional white knight born of the proverbial silver spoon. Their meeting was an accident, the fact that they became even the most tentative of friends, an anomaly. The only real thing they had in common... chemistry. Lots of chemistry. Unfortunately, that wasn't enough and Gia knew it. Now, if only she could convince her body...

Josh had always walked the line, lived the life he was expected to live. He had, by all accounts, the perfect life; a corporate lawyer, a beautiful home, a family empire to run, and the perfect fiancee. He was well on his way. The only question he had... was that really where he wanted to go? Plagued by dreams, Josh fought all his natural instincts, denying not only what he truly wanted but who he was deep down inside. Until one crazy night when he gave in to his desires...

Could these two polar opposites have more in common than even they realize?

This is a Erotic Romance, definitely 18+.

I really enjoyed this book, what a great read!

I really liked the characters in this book. It was refreshing to read about the heroine, Gia, being the tattooed and pierced one, instead of it being the hero as we usually get in our romance books. She was very colorful and stayed true to herself throughout the book. The hero, Josh, was a great character too. I loved how he was trying so hard to let loose and be his own person. There were also some fun and interesting secondary characters that brought humor to the story. I found myself laughing out loud quite a few times at the things that they said.

The storyline was perfect for me, but won’t be for everyone. There are things that happened over the course of this book that might bother other readers, but I was fine with it. The first being Josh was engaged to another woman and he just could not keep his attraction for Gia at bay. This did not bother me one bit, some may call it cheating and hate that, but I didn’t see it that way. Josh did kiss and fool around with Gia once before he broke off his engagement, but they went no further than that. Another thing that may bother readers was the fact that Gia kept denying her true feelings for Josh and this did go on right up until the ending. I felt she had a good enough reason to feel the way she did, so I did not find it to be a problem.

However, one thing that did bother me was when Josh broke off his engagement with his fiancée Deb; they both were completely okay with it, no big deal. There was no drama, no hard feelings, everything was fine, and we can and still are great friends. I was like…WTF! No emotions from either of them and they had been together for many years. Now, I would have been fine with that if maybe we had found out that Deb was secretly having feelings for another person too, if there had been a reason, explaining why it was so easy for Deb to give up on Josh, this book may have been a 4.5 or even a 5 star rating depending on what or why Deb was so okay with the breakup. All I can think of is maybe the author has plans to write Deb's book next and then we will find out exactly why the breakup didn’t affect her like I thought it should. If that's the case, I will surely be reading it!

Now I want to tell you about the heat level…this book was SCORCHING HOT!! Even in the beginning when they were just fooling around the scenes were off the charts HOT!!! As the story moved on and the sex/love scenes started up, they only got HOTTER with each encounter. There was a bit of BDSM in this book and it was done very tastefully, and although I normally don’t like reading about that in my books, it did not bother me here. The author definitely knows how to write spectacular erotic love scenes.

The ending was EXCELLENT, and I got the epilogue that I love so much, tying everything up perfectly, and leaving me with a smile and a sigh.

I truly enjoyed this book and look forward to reading more from this author in the future.

”He wanted to lose control, and in his dream he knew he could. Gia would not only accept that roughness, but would revel in it. She would respond in kind. With passion and energy. Desire, heat, strength…she would feed the chaos, let him dominate her, take her.”

Josh Taylor's parents has had his entire life mapped out for him; who he was expected to be and who he was expected to marry, and he did so willingly, that is until he got engaged to Deb and started to feel trapped. He turned to the one person he could count on, Gia, a mutual friend of both Deb and himself, whenever he felt the impulse to let go Gia was there, helping him. No matter how much shit Gia gave Josh for having a stick up his ass, there was no denying the attraction that has always been there. But Gia knows with all her tattoos and piercings, that she doesn’t belong in his world
”If she only got one shot at his man’s body, she wanted to leave her mark and make it perfect.”

The night Gia marked Josh’s body something changed, and it all had to do with the kiss, one that held too much power and desire. Both realizing their mistake, they agree to never let it happen again and brush it off as an effect of being sexually depraved. Only, their body or heart missed the memo, and each night they star in each others dreams. Josh knew had to do something, to know if it was a one-time thing or if there really was something there, and if there was, he knew he needed to end it with Deb before anyone got hurt. Josh and Deb had a different relationship, they loved each other, but it there was no fire, no urgency, it was just safe and expected.
”…let’s chalk this up to an impulsive act by a man driven to distraction by nipple rings.”

After the second kiss and a little release, he knew there was more to this than what Gia let on, but only if he could get her to admit it. Josh and Deb end their engagement feeling better about it than they had when they were actually engaged. Gia decided to challenge Josh, hoping to ruffle his feathers but Josh was eager to step up and prove her wrong
”Give me a number. How many times do you need to come in, say, the next forty eight hours, for you to be satisfied? What’s it going to take for you to realize that it is not just physical desire, but rather desire for me?”

Gia hated her body for betraying her, who would ever thought that “lawyer boy” would be so demanding. To say that Gia was stubborn is putting it lightly, the only thing she does permanent is her ink, no relationships and certainly no room for a lawyer and his stuffy club no matter how sexy he is when he lets loose.
”If you don’t want me to fuck you right here at this table, you had better get that goddamn look off your face.”

*********************************************************

It was a good read, but not great unfortunately, there were a couple things that irked me like; Gia, she was too stubborn, I never really understood why she felt the way she did, why she had to push everyone away, and it took away something in the story and Josh, thirty years old and only now do you realize something has to change with the way you are living your life??? I have to say though I did like the way the author handled the story where Deb was concerned, yes things got out of hand, but it never went farther than that.

This was suggested to me from a friend, and I'm entirely glad I read it! I was skeptical at first, because I don't normally enjoy reading about a break up of an engagement when the guy is in love with someone else. In this one, however, that was never an issue for me. Josh was trying to please everyone but himself and denying who he really was inside at the expense of his own happiness. Gia has never allowed herself to get close enough for someone to break her heart, but she knows deep inside that Josh is the one guy who can break down her walls enough to hurt her. She places all these rules and guidelines in hope of keeping her distance, but that proves to be pretty futile. The scenes between these two are just...scorching hot! Seriously, I thought my e-reader was going to spontaneously combust by the steaminess of this book. These two have an undeniable amount of chemistry! Only thing I would have liked to see more of, was to hear more of their witty banter between them. I just really enjoyed the parts we got to hear, so more would have been nice. As a whole though, this book rocked and I'm really glad I read it. :)

A really terrific opposites/enemies attract book; a terrific pairing of the hard-edged tattoo artist with colors in her hair and the straight-edged, buttoned-down lawyer. Heavy on the sex, yes, but with more substance than might be implied. Gia annoyed me at times, with her snarky attitude towards Josh, but I loved them together and Josh was just terrific. I loved that he didn't let Gia push him aside (for the most part) and was so open and honest about what he felt for her; he didn't want to let her write it off as being nothing but just a chemistry thing that would burn brightly but quickly. Also loved that he was trying to be honest about himself and his desires, taking the chance on trying something other than the laid-out-predetermined-path.

This was just an alright read for me. The first 7 to 9 chapters were written well, good set up for the main characters & their world. You also get Josh & Gia's POV equally throughout the book, so that's a plus... But shortly after the first few chapters all you get throughout the entirety of the book is sex. It was good but after awhile it became tedious at best cos that's all there was. There was no intensity/emotion cos it all became mechanical, expected I should say. There was really no conflict or major happenings outside of this really to balance it all out.

The name of this book is called "Hidden Depths" but there was nothing deep nor hidden about a wealthy guy who is a bit disenchanted with his privileged life. Walking the line for Mommy & Daddy & basically bored with his fiancé & is starting to realize maybe she isn't the woman he wants to marry, and finally coming to terms with the fact he's been in love with someone else for 8 years & that he's ready to be with someone who isn't afraid of his VERY mild desire for BDSM/D/s relationship.

Also the conflict with the main characters just read as something that maybe a couple in high school or early college age would go through. Not for these characters. This "childish" conflict was mainly on Gia's part.

So I guess what I'm saying is this is a decent enough read but I kept waiting for it to go deeper than the surface. And I didn't get that.

So if you're looking for a quick read that is just basically straight sex for the whole of the book & not really much else, then this is the read for you.

They say opposites attract. That is definitely the case with Josh and Gia. Both main characters were great. Josh had it all – great job, beautiful home, and a wonderful fiance – he was living the dream. The only problem is that it was someone else's dream. He fantasized about letting loose and being free until he could not hide it anymore. Gia…well I loved Gia. She is not afraid to speak her mind and does not care what others think of her. She has a bit of a wild side and knows how to have fun. I love that the female is the wild one in this story; usually we are reading about pierced and tattooed guys, so Gia was a fun change.

The chemistry between Josh and Gia is sweltering. From the very first page the scenes between the two of them, even if they are just talking and flirting, are steamy hot. I also loved the emotion brought out through the story. I am glad I had the opportunity to read this book!

I received a free copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review.

Cold shower time for me after reading this book and writing a review!! This book is HOT from beginning to end, oh and there is actually a good story in there too.

It was a nice change to have a tatted up bad girl instead of the bad boy. Although Gia owns a tattoo shop and doesn't dress the "norm", she isn't necessarily a bad girl. She has a group of six friends she has known since college, about 10 years which includes Josh and his fiance Deb.

Josh is the rich, pretty boy with his life mapped out for him. His soon to be boring wife, house and kids are all part of his family's master plan, but Josh doesn't feel he fits into that plan. He wants Gia, something different. Josh and Gia are friends and he wants to be more, but will it cost him everything?

I am trying to write this without spoilers, so if you are looking for a good story and some hot sex scenes-this is your book.

This was surprisingly good, but then I'm becoming jaded. If it's a new-to-me author (especially if it's self-published), I go into it expecting mediocre, so if it's a good story and not riddled with grammar and other issues, I'm a happy girl. And I'm a happy girl with this one.

First, word of warning... this book starts out with a bit of cheating. Josh is engaged to a girl he thinks his parents approve of. There's no real passion between them, and he's really just following a path he thinks his parents have laid out for him. But he's attracted to Gia (has been for years), who on the surface seems so wrong for him. Upon getting a tattoo from her, Josh and Gia kiss, and immediately call it a mistake. When Josh can't get the kiss out of his head, his best friend suggests that maybe he should do it again... to either make sure it was a mistake so he can put it behind him, or realize there could really be something there and avoid entering a marriage that is doomed. So he does, and it's massive sparks. So Josh calls off the engagement and tries really hard to make something real with Gia.

But Gia has a rough history and she doesn't think she's good enough for Josh. There's not really any amount of talking that could make her think things could really work with Josh, considering the ritzy world he lives in and her preconceived notions about what he wants long term. Gia didn't give Josh nearly enough credit, and I felt really bad for Josh, thinking he's more or less Gia's "dirty little secret". He wanted to shout it from the rooftops, but she wanted to keep things quiet, even among their close friends. (And, by the way, their friends aren't stupid.)

So it finally ended with an HEA, but it took a bit to get there. Lots of sexy times... Josh had been a closeted dominant... he'd tried to keep those tendencies under wraps, but Gia just brought it to the forefront when they were together. And Gia loved to submit to Josh. It was pretty steamy! But I was glad to see them work everything out.

This was a quick, steamy little number that kind of went against the grain of what's out there. In this book the heroine is the badass, tattooed hottie.

Meet Gia: Tattooed, pierced badass, free-spirit, owns her own tattoo shop
Meet Josh: Lawyer, up-tight, rich, educated, family man (or so we think--wink, wink)

Gia and Josh have known each other for eight years. They've both been attracted to each other but neither one ever did anything about it. Josh is engaged to Gia's friend Deb but he keeps having these recurring fantasies/dreams featuring Gia. One thing leads to another and Josh and Gia mess around and Josh ends up calling off the wedding. Josh and Gia proceed to have a secret love affair. I must say this book was quite steamy and the sex scenes were written quite nicely.

Gia seems to bring out the inner kink in Josh which he has kept hidden for perception purposes. There wasn't a lot of angst in this book--other than the whole opposites attract thing and Gia not feeling like she fits in with Josh's world.

Overall, I enjoyed this book and would definitely check out other things by this author!

4 stars. Have to admit from the beginning it was very comical, finally a man has sexual fantasy and want to see them through. Deb, what a cold cold fiance. Josh, was sexy as hell, and Gia, what a cutie. They made a wonderful couple after all the history that had together. Gia had an upbringing vulgar, why Josh was born with a silver spoon. But he didn't care of that at all. Finally when these two collide sexually, an explosion erupts and they can keep there hands away from each other. But I think it was mainly Josh, lol. Gia, was so emotional torn that she didn't know what was up and down. There friends were wonderful, wanting them to get together, but didn't know how to make it through. Very good book, I was a wreck near the end, wanting to go and shake both of them up so say they belong. Kudos to Ms. Hunter, very well written book. Thank you.

This was an incredibly sweet and hot read. Usually it's the bad boy with the tattoos that catches the eye of the perfect good girl, and in this case, totally reversed. Except the girl with the tattoos is the one holding back and the perfect good boy is the one that is totally accepting! Josh is really a great, great guy. Two kisses, one by accident, and one to make sure, and the next day, Josh calls off his engagement with his fiancee. As soon as he gets back from a long business trip he was sent on (during which they didn't talk), he gets back and courts Gia in earnest. And what a courting it is. The sex is incredibly hot. The emotions are so sweet. It's full of love, passion and kink. I think that's really about all I've got to say. It's a great, great read and I thoroughly enjoyed it!

This book was just boring. It started off good and then went down hill about half way through. Josh was ok but a bit dull and I didn't like Gia.
The whole dirty little secret thing wasn't right and the other thing that bothered me was the fiance situation. After being together for years he breaks up with his fiance just days/weeks before the wedding and immediately hooks up with her friend and there was no drama? not even a little argument? No one had anything to say? No, I just can't see that.

For a freebie this one surprised me. We have Josh, who is engaged and lives a perfect life and Gia, a tattoo artist, who feels she's not good enough. I did find it a bit sudden that two polar opposites who have been friends for YEARS only recently started realising their attraction. But still a hot steamy read from the first chapter until the very end.

"And what exactly is this world I live in that you don't?"

This book is ridiculous. DNF @ 45%.

The premises for chocking these pages full of lame sex and vanilla dirty talk are weak: dreams and deals.

The conflict is completely cliche and insubstantial, damn near nonexistent.

The writing is amateurish.

Life is short and I have other books to read and enjoy.

This is going on Lendle.

I really liked this book. I got it while it was free on Amazon for a while but totally would have paid for it. The basic story is boy is engaged to the girl he's "supposed" to be with. Boy gives in to his true desires, but that girl is his total opposite. Can they make it work? When I began the book and read that Josh was engaged, I was ready for cheating, lying, dragging out the inevitable, and drama. Surprisingly (and wonderfully) none of that happened. The characters (for the most part) acted like grownups. It was so refreshing! And the secondary characters - i.e. the friends - gave solid, normal, rational advice. It was a little odd that Josh's relationship with Deb seemed to be glossed over, but that really wasn't the point of the whole story. And, while there was some drama, none of it was dragged out too much and resolution happened. Plus, there was the added bonus of some hot, slightly kinky, sex. And that's never a bad thing.

The good:
*Refreshing story that bypassed the unnecessary drama of many novels of this type.
*Nice that, for once, the girl was the tatted, pierced one and the guy was straight laced.
*Characters acted liked adults.
*Steamy and hot!

The bad:
*Wish there would have been more description of the main characters (in terms of looks). I wanted more details about Josh!
*"Forgetting" the condom. Technically not a real issue, but this is one of my pet peeves.
*I wanted a little more depth.

Side note - Would love to have a novella of a scene where we find out what Josh and Gia learned in Vegas. :-)

For some reason, I didn't feel the connection between the H/H. I tried really hard, but something was off. Maybe it was because they've known each other for almost a decade and never acted on their attraction, but all of a sudden, the pull is irresistible.

For the most part, Josh was a likable character, but he just didn't do it for me. Maybe the Birkenstocks just threw me off. They didn't scream "sexy". I did enjoy Josh's inner kink and the way he got under Gia's skin. He was a sneaky one.

Gia was fun, stubborn and sassy, but at times a little too sarcastic. With her personality, her character could have brought more drama to the story, but she kind of fell flat. I wanted to know more about her past, the reasons for her low self- esteem weren't good enough for me.

One thing that confused me was Josh and Deb's relationship. The breakup was too calm. Deb barely said a word about it. It was like she couldn't care less and the fact that she was OK with one of her best friends immediately hooking up with her ex- fiancé was odd. I would have had a huge problem with that. The author could have created more conflict, attacking Gia's self esteem with Deb's character.

This book had potential, but I just needed better character development and plot. It just felt incomplete.

Gia loved her, "yes Josh, take off your shirt. It would be a little hard to ink you through cotton. I could shove the sleeve up, but it's easier if it's just off and out of the way. Granted it's been a while, but I'm sure you have nothing to be ashamed of and it's just us in here. Let's see it, lawyer boy. Unless sitting in an office has made you soft." I mean I really do like the girl, "for now. So, Josh. What is this all about? You show up here, get a tat, kiss me then tell me to forget it. You flirt with me at the beach, stare at my boobs when you hear I'm pierced then pop in to kiss me again. Is this some sort of weird sexual experimentation? Because you're supposed to do this when you're in college, not when you're an adult and engaged to someone else." Josh is at times a caveman, "Josh grabbed Gia and throwing her over his shoulder in a fireman's carry, he turned and stomped up the stairs toward her room." Good lord Josh, "that's good, baby. I'm glad you like a little kink. We'll have to explore that another day. For right now..." Oh my lord, Josh is really something else, "Gia, we are already up to thirteen. If you are not where and how you are supposed to be when I get there, we will add on five more."

A book that started with great potential but then left me flat. The beginning had me gripped and I thought I was really gonna love it. Josh is really sweet with an inner kinky sex god lurking underneath his polished suit, and Gia is a sassy say what you think girl with dyed streaky hair and funky clothes. Polar opposites definitely attract in this story with some really hot and steamy sex.

At the point where the characters are just starting to work together on their attraction is the point it all fell flat for me. Debs is Josh's fiancé and she just literally stands aside and let's Josh and her good friend Gia go at it without a word of bitchyness which I would have expected from her character, whether it be directed at Gia OR Josh.

Gia, I really liked her and her spirited 'take me as i am' attitude but she then became one dimensional with her insecurities and lack of communication, she had some real potential to cause some serious drama in this story but it was almost like she became someone else. I started to really dislike her towards the end and I lost their connection so I started to gloss over the steamy sex scenes.

The author has a real knack for alternating the POVs and this worked really well.

ARGH! GR needs half stars!!!

Okay, to be honest, this was better than I thought it was going to be. However, that's not saying that I thought it was great.

I thought Josh was great, but way too forgiving/accepting. I also thought he did a shitty thing to Deb. Speaking of Deb, you know Josh's FIANCE!, I was expecting more of an umm...break up? It was like oh you want to break off our wedding? Sure. Oh and you are going to date my best friend? Sure go ahead and flaunt that right in front of me.

Gia, wow, I started out really liking her. Then, she and Josh got together and I immediately started not to like her. Hide their relationship? Be a dirty little secret? Running out on him. Lying to him. None of this was cool. I wanted to slap her (and not on her ass) to knock some sense into her.

Really the thing boiled down to COMMUNICATION! I hate when people keep their stuff bottled in and let it fester. Then by the time they know it, it's too late. It's turned into a huge giant mess that could have been resolved if they spoke to each other.

Hidden Depths didn’t end up rocking my literary world but I enjoyed it nonetheless. The switch from the usual premise of proper good girl and tatted bad boy to Gia’s free spirited tattoo artist and Josh’s stuffy lawyer characters was a nice change of pace. It must be said that just because a gal’s got some ink does not make her a “free spirit” or “bad girl”. Join me in the new millennium people. The water’s fine. Josh’s hidden desire for a little kink in the bedroom after four nice years of respectable sex with his ex-fiancé was hot combined with the sexual chemistry running back and forth between him and Gia.

Unfortunately this turned out to be another story based on miscommunication and I’m just plain tired of those. If Gia had been honest with Josh about her fears from the beginning, she would’ve saved them both a lot of uneccesary heartache.

So while Josh is engaged to her very good friend Deb, Gia has no problems flirting, kissing, touching, groping and dry humping him to orgasm, all behind her friend's back. Then the engagement is OVER and Josh is a FREE man and she no longer wants anything with him...do you see where I'm going with this?

The only reason I'm giving this book two stars is because the sex is incredibly hot and I feel that Ms. Hunter does write amazing chemistry between her characters. You can't deny the scorching hot sexually crazy addictive chemistry between Gia and Josh, I just hate infidelity. I hate it with a blinding passion, doesn't matter how hot the characters are for one another..Decent people don't betray loved ones and friends like that...ever! If the infidelity hadn't been a part of this book, it would have been an amazing story, worthy of four stars. Not five because Gia was a bit annoying with her self doubt but I would have rated it a four....too bad!

why was this one on my kindle for so long I wonder?? this was a great read. Josh and Gia have been friends for 8 years. the timing was just never right for the two of them. I thought the storyline of home being engaged at the beginning would be a bit awkward. that part of the story was a bit odd I thought. when they broke it off everyone was good with it. whatever.

his owns a tattoo parlor and Josh is an only child whose parents belong to the country club. Gia feels out of place and thinks that Josh is going to break her heart.

she has to realize on her own that Josh is her rock and would do anything to make sure she knows he loves her. they are both stubborn which comes to be a problem but they work through it.

Good hot read!!

Thinking back about it, Josh really could have done better. He wasn't very secure in his masculinity or himself, since Georgia had to get him to lose his inhibitions. And couldn't he just have stayed single then instead of getting with her friend? He knew that he always had attraction for Georgia so basically, he was settling for less than he wanted. This was a bit icky for me too, probably because I would never consider getting with a friend's ex. Other than that, I liked the book well enough and the sexual tension heated the pages up.

This has a nice twist to the traditional love story. Josh, could easly become the next "book boyfriend" and the sex.. The sex was hot. The only negative I could find was the few errors through out, but it wasn't enough to turn me off.
