Jenny is the tale of an eight year old girl who has a secret... she is not an average eight year old. In fact, Jenny is a Werewolf hunting eight year old...

While staring out of the window one night, Little Jenny got the most awful fright, she was sure that she saw, from the corner of her eye, a great big hairy, scary guy.
With claws and fangs, and eyes that glowed red, ‘It could be a vampire, or maybe one of the un-dead?’

The Tiny Twisted Tales are a collection of short stories and poems from the rather strange mind of UK author and illustrator, Calvin Innes.

Each Tiny Twisted Tale is a wonderfully macabre story about weird, scary, wonderfully gruesome characters, from people who eat bugs, to tiny toga-wearing goblins. Each book is packed with dozens of Calvin’s quirky illustrations.

The Tiny Twisted Tales each have a moral to teach the reader, wrapped up in a silly, twisted, creepy and funny way.

The final book of the Tiny Twisted Tales trio is Jenny. Jenny is no ordinary little girl, she's a werewolf hunting eight-year-old and nothing really scares her. Jenny doesn't like pink, or fluffy, or dolls. She is happiest when she is in the most frightening of situations, where other children would cry and scream.

Each one of the Tiny Twisted Tales are wonderfully produced. Calvin Innes has such an imagination, just perfect for small children who really enjoy reading about yuk and slime and all things horrid. These stories are not only very entertaining, but are a perfect way of introducing poetry to children, making it funny and accessible and sometimes downright gruesome. There is no doubt that Calvin Innes' illustrations add so much to the books - each one is so precisely drawn and the cartoon characters suit the stories perfectly.

I will enjoy sharing these stories with my little nephew, he will adore the silliness. These books make you smile just by looking at the front cover, you will continue to smile right through to the last page.

What amused me most about Jenny was her evil looking grins and smirks. I am guessing it is because she reminds me of myself at that age. My 7yr old son however was much more fascinated by the fact Jenny can get away with hunting werewolves at night. 'Doesn't she have school in the morning?' he asked. (note he didn't find it at all bizarre that she hunts monsters)
Reading age 7plus or advanced reader. The rhymes are written in a way that invites the reader to sound out the words to get the pace right. This in turn helps with the reading, as most UK children are taught phonics and use the sounding out method.
For younger readers I would suggest if the child doesn't like monsters or is afraid of the dark, then this book could be a fun way of showing them how tough kids are and how monsters can be defeated. If in doubt, then don't. Not every child has a hankering for the slime, goo, bugs, monsters and things that go bump in the dark.
Once again the fantastic illustrations in combination with the text are what make this book the whole package. The pages jump out at you and connect with the reader. Innes manages to make the werewolves look both scary and completely harmless at the same time.
I highly recommend the Tiny Twisted Tale series.

I can see why my 9 year old daughter enjoyed reading this scary Twisted Tale, she can relate to the heroine Jenny: "She doesn't wear dresses, or have long flowing curls". Instead she is an 8 year old werewolf hunter!

With its short snappy rhymes and quirky illustrations this is a quick read for an accomplished reader or an undaunting book for more reluctant ones. It's the longest in the Twisted Tales series but the 79 pages don't include that many words.

A slightly scary but not really frightening book it's great for tween readers who want an exciting read but not one that will give them nightmares. The werewolf looks pretty menacing in the illustrations but he gets his comeuppance at the hands of the heroine.

Lots of children imagine that they can hunt and defeat evil creatures and Jenny makes a good heroine. My daughter enjoyed reading the story out loud to her 6 year old brother. He seemed to be an avid listener so must have enjoyed it too.

The trademark ink spots and typeface are once again in this book alongside the monochrome illustrations. I'm sure this will be on our bookshelf for some time to come.
