What are Ravens, and are they as the world wants us to believe—sinister and without human qualities? When abruptly taken from their world, select humans are transformed into creatures of the night with penetrating eyes and uncanny abilities that most believe are a threat to mankind. Stripped from their mundane and ordinary lives, these creatures have no choice but to stalk the night and fight back in order to survive.
One such Raven is eighteen-year-old Liam, who uses his telepathy to communicate with Kendra in order to lure her into the transformation. It proves to be a double-edged gambit that turns into a tumultuous journey. Racing against time to save her sister, whom she believed to be dead, Kendra falls through a portal and into a parallel world where humans hunt her. She becomes a Raven with ill-controlled powers, trapped in a torrid affair with Liam, and desperately struggles to find a grip on her new reality.
1. I like that the sci-fi aspect of this book was easy to understand and not fantastical. Luckily I read Lightning by Dean Koontz some time ago and remember something about paradox's.
2. The author made the most of the 260 pages; I didn't have to skip over one paragraph due to overly descriptive fillers.
3. Kendra and Liam have a past. For me personally, that makes the actions and emotions believeable and comprehensible.
4. What I liked most was the story itself. I thought most of the characters had a depth to them that left me feeling different about each one as the story progressed. Randal is a great example of that because in the beginning I was sure he was gonna assault Kendra. I dont know the authors plans, but a great premise has been set for a series (hint hint Ms. Austen). I would like to continue the story of the Ravens and the dimension they have were dropped into. But even if there is not more to come, I felt like there was closure with this book.
It was hard for me to rate Ravens because it was such a "meh" book in my opinion. I loved the idea of these "Ravens" to begin with, but as the story progressed I realized that they weren't even actual Ravens but just their title. This book had lots of potential with the parallel universe and the supernatural powers, I just thought it had a poor execution. I didn't relate to the characters very much and it wasn't a BAM book. It was more of an easy read for when you're bored. There's certainly nothing wrong with that, but I had been hoping for a little more. This book isn't something I would recommend to my friends, but if they said they wanted to read it, I wouldn't stop them.
Kendra couldn't save her sister. Julie and Liam disappeared right before her eyes and no one believed her. She's lived with the guilt of not being able to rescue her sister. But Liam never leaves her. His mind is always within hers. On the anniversary of their disappearance, Liam pulls Kendra through the portal and into a parallel world where she's not ordinary anymore and her sister isn't gone. Kendra begins to discover a world where she has power and love, but she has to give up something and she can't get it back if she chooses. A great story concept - needed a tad more world-building to help the readers, but it's a great concept! (Though I admit, the blurb confused me because all I could think of was ravens as in the bird and I wondered why people turned into birds from the summary.)
The relationship between Kendra and Liam was... to put it mildly, steamy. They had a problem keeping their hands off of each other and since he is described as incredibly attractive, it was distracting and hard to read sometimes. I wanted to read more relationship building between the two characters. They did have some great emotional moments and some arguments, but it went up and down fairly quickly. I honestly had some trouble liking Kendra. She was distant and made a lot of rash decisions. I liked Liam's character, when he managed to keep his shirt on. It was a bit steamy for YA. Part of the story, I really just wanted them to stop touching and there to be more plot development.
Ravens is an interesting concept about parallel worlds, missing children, and the strange powers which make them hunted. I enjoyed reading it, even if I felt the whole portal shifting/parallel world could have used a little more explanation. I would recommend it if you enjoy science fiction with quite a bit of touching.
The blurb sounds really good and it makes us intrigued to what Ravens are. It all started back when Kendra, Liam, and Julie are playing in the barn something happened and Liam and Julie just went away. Kendra has tried to come to terms with it all growing up but it has been hard on her especially since she hears a voice in her head and she has Liam come and visit her but for Kendra she believes it all to be non real. Even though it gets steamy at times between them. That is until a portal opens up and Kendra finds herself in another universe. Scary right? You would think that but Kendra holds herself together pretty well. Minus the few temper outbursts. What is a Raven you may ask? Well it is someone who has different eye color and powers, humans in this other world want nothing to do with them while hunters hunt them. Now Kendra has thought her sister has been dead but she learns that in this universe they are in she is just in trouble and it is up to her to save her as she can find her. We spend the most part going back and forth with feelings between Liam and Kendra and Kendra and Randy who is so in love with Kendra that he has been waiting on her forever it seems. Through the whole romantic scenes if you want to call them that or crush scenes it was good but I wanted more of the universe. I wanted to know how exactly did the world know that certain people could become Ravens,
Ever since I finished Ravens, I’ve been trying to decide what to rate it. Let me just say that I went in thinking it was about actual ravens. I felt like an idiot when the story was about beings known as ravens. This fact didn’t affect my rating because after I found out, I accepted it and moved on with the story. I enjoyed the beginning, and the book had a good premise. However, I had a few problems with it. I wanted some things explained more such as the world, the ravens, and the hunters. I felt like I could have learned a lot more about each to really pull the story together. There were also aspects that I found a little bit unnecessary such as Randal’s point of view. It just seemed unneeded. Some of the conversations didn’t flow that well, and Kendra seemed rather calm when Liam was explaining the parallel universes. Overall, I was excited to read this book, but I was disappointed with it. I do want to read some of her other books though.
I know that I should read first this book before I write a review but I really want to read this. I can't help myself to have copy of this because it is not available to where i am living. It is really a shame if I can't read this book because the first time I read the synopsis of this I fell in love with. I want to know more. I'm really excited to read this. And I think this will not disappoint me after reading it.
I personally loved this book! It has a bit of everything suspense violence and of course romance what more can you ask for in a book. :P Once i started reading it i couldn't put it down i wanted to finish it as soon as i could of how great it was, Great ending, I recommend it if you haven't bought it yet.
