Being the daughter of Lucifer keeps seventeen year old Dawn Belial busy. For almost her entire lifetime, she has been trying to think of a way to free her Archangel mother, Michaela, whom her father has held captive for centuries. She's also attending high school - balancing trigonometry, history, and recruiting souls for her father along with her wicked half-sister, Venus.
There has been no time for love until she meets mysterious Gabriel, a British exchange student. As they fall in love against their will, she discovers a startling secret about him, and a shocking connection to her mother that changes everything.
Author of debut young adult novel, The Morning Star, and an MA novel, Catching Frogs. And, because I'm loco in the roco, I've got about 28 more on the back burner. When I'm not writing I can be found kayaking, hiking, ninja-training, traveling, and taking a ferry over to the San Juan Islands to search for the elusive creature known as the "Orca." I also am constantly adding ridiculous wants, needs, must-see's and do's to my ever expanding bucket book.
There's an old saying, "I know they say that first love is the sweetest but that first cut is the deepest." Whomever came up with that, must have been a sadistic idiot. After the first cut, why would you want to punish yourself with additional cuts? You keep going down that road, eventually you'll get dismembered.
Some people's dads fight fires. Dawn's dad starts them.
Dawn Belial's father, the one and only Lucifer, is a businessman or art collector at first glance- with his nine hundred dollar shoes, designer suits and love of fine wine. But underneath the cultured facade is a burning rage and a broken heart that yearns to be united with the love of his life, the Archangel Michaela...who is also Dawn's mother. And who Lucifer has held captive for centuries, because she refused to reciprocate his ardent love - already in love with another, Ramiel.
Some kids' chores consist of taking out the trash. Dawn's consist of recruiting souls.
When she's not thinking up ways to rescue her mother, Dawn has the life of a typical teenager - attending high school, drinking extremely hot, peppery coffee and hanging out with her incredibly wicked half-sister Venus. But unlike Venus, to whom the party-nightlife-scene never tires or loses its shine, Dawn longs for something more. Centuries have passed, scenes have changed, fads come and gone, souls recruited and fires set and left to burn...the same thing, time after time. Maybe it's her angel side, but Dawn can't help but wonder if she's doing the right thing.
Most guys fall into a succubus' traps. But not this one.
Her sister Venus - a succubus, lurer of unsuspecting men - can snag any guy she chooses to sink her perfectly manicured nails into. But when the very cute, and very British, Gabriel crosses the sisters' path, he is unaffected by Venus' powers and seems intent on pursuing Dawn. Getting to know him, Dawn finds herself feeling emotions she's never felt before...some of them way too human.
Lucifer's daughter doesn't do love...or does she?
Gabriel is a human; it can never end well. Keeping her identity a secret, Dawn steadily falls in love with him and he with her - but not everything is as it seems. Ramiel is intent on rescuing Michaela from her prison, no matter the cost. And as his plan is uncovered, piece by piece, Dawn's heart may just be shattered in the process as well as her perception of who she is and her role in the war between Heaven and Hell.
A story of love unrequited, lost, given and found, 'The Morning Star' is sure to entrap you in a battle of the heart that is as captivating as it is timeless.
The Morning Star was a fun weekend read I highly enjoyed. The story centers around Dawn, the daughter of a female archangel, and the "Big Bad" Lucifer. Yep, you read that right. Her daddy is the "Big D." EEEP!
Because she's the daughter of two celestial beings, one good, and one evil, she's acquired a handful of gifts. Girlfriend can create fire, travel in between dimensions, and heal things. It was refreshing to see Dawn strive to be a good person and show care and remorse despite her unfortunate parentage. Itwas also equally heartbreaking to see the hurt she feels when she believes the boy she's given her heart to betrays her.
The secondary cast is a fun mix of characters. I enjoyed Dawn's sister Venus quite a bit, as well as Silas, who creates a bit of a love triangle between Dawn and her man, Gabriel.
I truly enjoyed this book!! It was unlike anything I''ve ever read before. Most books you read today are all about werewolves and vampires, but not this one. I love angels and was so happy to find a YA book that was about them. It's well written and had great characters. I LOVE Dawn! She is such a sweetie, even though she is Lucifers daughter!! I can't wait to read what happens next with her and Gabriel. There were a few parts where I got teary eyed and loved the surprises Tania thew in there for us. Such a great read, highly recommend for someone who is looking for a good YA read! Will be looking forward to more from this author!

It's been some time since I've written a negative review; at least 4-5 months. Unfortunately, here I am to break that streak.
**SOME SPOILERS AHEAD**
~ Editing. This book needs so much editing! I say this because the grammar was absolutely awful—so much so that it took away from the story for me. First we have the dreaded too/to and then/than issue—that alone is enough to make me want to put the book down immediately. Couple that with a hundred fragmented sentences and tons of slip ups in tense, and you have a hot mess. It shouldn't take so much effort to read a book! I felt like I should quit reading it and start editing it instead. I had some examples highlighted on my Kindle, but unfortunately, I stupidly deleted the book before I could begin my review. But trust me, it's bad. Please, future authors, EDIT EDIT EDIT. Please? :) I don't want to read your story if I have to lose my reading flow due to a then/than mistake. Ack!
~ Why oh why do authors do the insta-love thing when they know we hate it?! I am having trouble understanding this! Not only was there insta-love, but once the “relationship” aged a bit, I still didn't see any basis for love. These two know next to nothing about each other. They're both hiding immense secrets, and the relationship is a lie from beginning to end. The author is supposed to make us believe in what they're writing, and for this romance I saw nothing but words on a page. I couldn't connect and that makes me sad.
~ Dawn loves her daddy a little too much. I am so angry at myself for deleting the book from my Kindle because, yet again, I could show you an example of what I am talking about. Sigh. Anyway, Dawn gives off a weird vibe about her father. In the beginning of the book she describes her father's drop-dead gorgeous physique, his charming face, his way with the ladies, etc. Had I not already known the girl was talking about her father, I would've assumed she was checking out some guy at a bar. I mean, the way she described him and the way she talked about his looks seemed unnatural and sort of gross.
~ The plot was messy. I think there were just too many ideas and they weren't well laid out; they were just mashed together. It felt like the author was getting ahead of herself; not finishing one thing before starting another, and getting lost in it. A lot of the story seemed sequentially wrong, and there were characters popping in that had no purpose. Silas, for example. For one thing, the guy randomly shows up about 75% of the way through and Dawn is talking about him like he's her inevitable future mate because she and Gabriel are oh-so-forbidden. She talks about him like he means A LOT to her, but I don't remember her even thinking about this guy until he randomly shows up to make out with her and grope her against the hood of a car at about 75%. Color me confused. I'm still sitting here with a big ol' question mark over my head.
Not only do you have random characters making pointless appearances, but you have this weird side-story about Dawn's high school life. Dead cheerleaders and random crap that seems like nothing more than filler. It seemed like it was just easier for the author to flesh out the more mundane, contemporary parts of the story than to really focus on world-building and making her paranormalities more believable.
~ Terrible protagonist. I have to say that Dawn was a real letdown in the way of heroines. She was much too gullible and naïve for someone who has supposedly “lived for centuries”. Not only that, but she is a real pushover. She talks a lot of game, but doesn't back it up. She let's everyone around her do all the decision making. She is a follower. She doesn't think for herself half the time and she definitely doesn't seem to have the wisdom that should come with age—especially centuries of it!
Now, I may not have liked this book, but that's not to say I can't admit that it was an original idea. I like that it was something I've never read before, but that just makes it all the more disappointing that it didn't meet my expectations. :( The plot was unique at it's core and it had potential, but definitely fell short for me.
Overall, this book wasn't for me. It needed editing. The romance was the worst kind. The characters weren't well-developed. The plot was messy and there were too many people and events in the story that had no purpose. It was slow-moving and tough to finish. I won't be coming back for book 2, unfortunately. The Morning Star was wasted potential. I don't recommend this book.

Book source: From the author Publisher: Penn Pal Publishing
Detailed Review: This book is awesome. But I feel so hurt because of one thing. The cliffhanger. Yes, the AHC, that's what I'm talking about. I just want to know something, who created CLIFFHANGERS in the first place? Did a person go and dangle off a cliff and some author got an idea to also do that in their book?
But the characters and story are, wow. Perfect. Dawn was the best heroine ever, and Venus managed to act her part out as the bitchy sister. who is the daughter of a succubus, Lilith. I thought that it was good that the author managed to put the good and the bad in Dawn, which I witnessed in her.
So it starts, when Dawn starts a fire near their home, and when she is unwillingly caught up later by the police, she runs and manages to escape but discovers a power she would never want to show her father, Satan, Lucifer, the Devil: healing. Satan would never want anything to heal but rot right? Right.
Her father used to be an angel, but after the person he loves betrayed him, he has changed and been banished to the earth. But life isn't as bad as you think it could possibly be. They're rich, they have a hundred dead souls at their command, they have a normal life.
Dawn's mistake has always been acting too human. So when Gabriel enters her life, who she believes to be a mortal, everything changes. The first time she saw him in a club, he was looking at her. The next time she saw him was in school. She feels a connection towards him, but she doesn't know why.
But what she doesn't know is his true identity. She has seen her mother Michaela, who is imprisoned by Lucifer in a portal called the measure and Dawn is positive that her mother knows something about Gabriel.
Then the secret: Gabriel is an Archangel sent by Ramiel to help Michaela escape.
Dawn feels betrayed and she thinks she knows how her father feels now. So she decides to change. I was seriously so scared for her. The whole time, I was saying please don't become dark over and over again. I was that desperate.
And then Silas comes into her life. She has always been attracted to Silas. He's gorgeous and different to other angels, more brave and daring.
But he has another secret.
He has made an her agreement with her father that they would rule Heaven together, with Michaela and Dawn by their sides.
Silas also makes a mistake. He accidentally lets slip that Gabriel wasn't supposed to love her and this was the wake-up call she needed. She realized that when Gabriel says that he loved her, he meant it.
So at last, with faith she tries to rescue both Michaela and Gabriel but...
Not telling you what happens in the end. That's a cliffhanger for you whahahahahaha.
Brief Review: What made me took an instant liking to the book was the story. The story was perfectly planned out and everything to me seemed flawless. If only I could write as good as the author!
Final Rating: 5/5 'Totally Amazing!'
QUOTE:
To Dawn,
“Darkness cannot drive out darkness: only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate: only love can do that.” ------Marthin Luther King Jr.
Dawn is the daughter of Lucifer. She and her half sister Venus collect souls for their father’s army. Dawn is different though. She is part fallen angel and part Archangel. She doesn’t want to do bad things, but she does it for her father. When she meets the mysterious Gabriel, she starts to slip on her duties and slips into love. But does she really know Gabriel? She knows a human shouldn’t affect her the way he does. What’s a girl to do when she just wants to save her mom and be with Gabriel?
It will be the hardest decision she will ever make.
The beginning of the book had me really confused. I had no idea who was speaking and what was going on. I had to re-read the first couple of pages. Once I got a hang of how she was writing, everything just flowed smoothly. I finished the book faster than I thought. I was entranced by dawn. She is part fallen and part Archangel and the sides were always fighting for control. One minute she was sweet and the next she is trying to burn down everything. And her sister Venus didn’t help, but she is a succubus and her mother is Lillith. I’ve never really read a book with Lucifer in it before and I liked how the author portrayed him in the book. He was just a normal guy like you and I…..beside that he is evil. There were a lot of different types of angels in the books and a lot of interesting characters. This book was unique in its on way. I can’t wait to see what happens to Dawn and maybe we will see a side of her we haven’t seen. :D
Dawn: She is torn. She wants to be good, but her father wants her to be bad. You can tell that she wants to do good things, but every time she does, it has a way of blowing up in her face. I want to see more of her powers in the next one and maybe she will accept who she is.
Venus: Well she is a succubus and is used to getting what she wants. So you know she is livid when the two guys she wants, want nothing to do with her. There was only one part of the book where I thought she was actually nice, but she ruined it shortly after. Bad is just in her DNA.
Gabriel: Throughout the book he would go hot and cold towards Dawn. He would want Dawn and then he didn’t. He had his reasons and if I say anymore I will spoil the book. As far as a guy goes though, he was alright. I still need to learn a little bit more about him before I make my decision.
Think Lucifer's daughter lives in hell, think again, she lives in a beautiful home with her father, step-mother who is a succubus, and her half sister, Venus. Dawn is the child of Lucifer and his true love, Michaela. Too bad Michaela is in love with Ramiel, which is where the trouble began. Due to Lucifer not being able to accept Michaela's love for Ramiel, and his inability to let her go and move on, he was cast out of Heaven by his father, The Creator. He didn't go alone though, he grabbed Michaela on his way out, she has been imprisoned for centuries and Dawn only gets to see her when her father allows it. Dawn is the product of a one time union between them. She seems like a normal teenager to an extent. She has friends, lives in a nice house, starts fires and collects souls for her father. Totally normal, right? Dawn is special, she can control fire with her hands, she has powers that she hasn't told anyone about, and has powers that she doesn't know about. She keeps seeing this beautiful guy that makes her feel like she never has before, finally he shows up at her school as a new student. Gabriel, he only has eyes for her, completely ignoring her half succubus sister. She feels like there is something odd about him, and he isn't pulled under her sister's spell, but doesn't sense that he is of celestial descent. Slowly over time they come together, but as always, there is betrayal in the midst. Ramiel wants Michaela back and has a plan to make it happen, Dawn is a pawn in Ramiel's plan to get her back, as well as a pawn in her father's plan to take over Heaven. When all is said and done, Dawn will have to make a choice, do her father's bidding, or stand by her love for Gabriel and lose everything she knows. This book was really good, I loved that it portrayed Lucifer's daughter as a normal, albeit, powerful teenager. She has normal teenage problems to an extent, doesn't want to disappoint daddy, likes a boy, has chores, etc. Lucifer, in this story, seems so harmless and normal most of the time that you actually like him. The characters are well developed, so you really get to love or hate them. You have the pleasure of saying in your head, "no, no, don't believe it, they are lying, you know better." You only get that in a book that makes you really connect with the story and the people in it. Totally going to read the next book and would say this is the beginning of a wonderful relationship.
Man I really did want to love this book. And I am being really generous with that 3 stars right now because i glanced at the rest of the book. I hate to admit that it wasn't as exciting as i thought it was going to be, and I am not going to do a huge ass review for this.
I had more problems with this book than i did things i liked about it. I LOVED the idea, truly and utterly but the more into i got, the more unfeeling i felt. I didn't really feel their emotions i felt like they were going through the motions but *heavy sigh* i wasn't feeling it, and you shouldn't just not read this if you are interested in it because of what i have to say.
Another BIG problem was mostly the characters, i love characters sometimes really they can save a horrible plot line but this had both an awesome plot line and i was hoping awesome characters...well heres the thing, our first encounter of Lucifer - yes that Lucifer he was what i thought he would be intimating and sort of scary even towards his daughters and i think if the author was going with a newer idea of why Lucifer fell other than well his reasonings, and then wanting to take over again i could have fallen for the he isn't really a bad guy and he actually seems like the nicest dad character i have ever come across, then near the end he shifts again not cool.
okay and his first born Dawn who is the story is about seems more unfeeling than her pure evil younger sister, who is only a year younger. And i was expecting a lot nicer character out of Dawn i am not saying she can't have that bad tempter, her father is the Devil but i mean i was expecting so much from this book and i wasn't getting it, and maybe that was my problem. But at the same time i just couldn't fall head over heels for it. I think that it is worth trying out if you are interested by the plot - which felt like it started to die off until the very end which i skimmed, but not the point. There are new interesting ideas in this book that i think that it is worth a look see and make up your own minds.
Now im not sure when/if i will post this in my blog because it is so short compared to most reviews i do but if you are interested in any other indie books you should come check it out because that is mostly what i review. so here the link http://theviolethourbookreviews.wordp...
enjoy. And again i do hope if this interests you enough then sure try it out. i mean who am i to say this is worth your time or not
I have read a lot of books about the fallen angels and I have to say this one had a unique aspect to it. A lot of the characters are names that were familiar of course but the story line was unlike any I have read in the past.
A forbidden love between two unique one of a kind celestial beings, brings to light a whole wealth of conflict in this story. Dawn, the daughter of Lucifer (known as the Morning Star) has a deep love for her father, which leads to a misguided understanding of her mother. She will do anything to make him happy which includes doing his bidding on earth and helping to recruit for his army along side her half sister Venus. Venus reminds me of the evil step sisters in Cinderella. Boy is she wicked! She's a temptress all right, and she is one sadistic girl.
Dawn is a confused girl, because she wants to have human feelings and fall in love, but she is far from human and she holds the key to something her father wants very much. Throughout the book she learns the secrets of the past and when faced with her own bout of betrayal she is quick to judge and discount the real truth behind the lies. She jumps to embrace her evil side and pledging her undying love once again for her father and his mission.
The lengths that her father is willing to go to, to get what he wants betray her trust and love in him and threaten the lives of the ones that she loves. The question is can she realize what is right and wrong before it is too late? Well you'll have to read it to find out...
Over all the story was good. I have to say that I would have liked a little bit more of the romance between the two main characters. I didn't feel like I could full believe that they were in love with each other and ready to fight for it. I also would have liked to see more of a connection with her mother in the story. The characters needed a little more development and there were a few things that I thought could have been left out that didn't really help move the plot forward. Other then that the story line was different from anything I have read and the writing was solid. If you enjoy books about the fallen angels then I think you'd enjoy this book.
I give this book 3.5-4 stars I'm sort of in between there.
I'm anxious to see what Tania does with the story in the second book. Oh and a warning if you don't like cliffhangers wait till the series is finished because this book leads to more...
Dawn and her succubus sister, Venus are not your average high schoolers; in their free time they help their father out by recruit souls for his army. In a typical Lucifer fashion, their father is trying to take over the Kingdom while keeping Dawn’s mother Michaela locked away. Michaela was locked away because she chose Ramiel over Lucifer and he just couldn’t get over it. While this whole power struggle is going on, Dawn is just trying to live a semi-normal life and date the mysterious but gorgeous Gabriel.
I had no idea what I was really getting into reading The Morning Star but the summary sounded interesting and I enjoy books about Angels so I figured, why not give it a read. I am so glad I did. The angel aspects of the story had interesting twists, like Dawn having a step mother who is a succubus. The characters while a bit stereotypical at times were perfectly developed. Lucifer, while being a pretty good father and loving his daughter is described as a beautiful, expensive suit wearing dad. Venus is a tight dress wearing, super flirtatious man eater while Dawn is a bit more reserved. And Gabriel is supposed to be a swoon-worthy British exchange student. The love-hate relationship between Dawn and her sister was believable and entertaining; Venus was constantly insulting her sister and bantering back and forth. Gabriel and Dawn had a bit of insta-love but it was mixed with a whole lot of drama that made up for it.
My only reservation about the story was sometimes it was a bit slow and the plot was a little predictable. That being said, it did not bother me too much since there were still twists in the story that left me saying WHAAAT just happened here… On a side note: While this did not affect the amount of stars I gave this book, I do wish there was a better cover. It is just so plain and does not encompass the angels and drama or really do the book justice.
Tania Penn did an excellent job of writing a modern day angel story that is blended with traditional angel lore and high school drama. The Morning Star was a 4 star book; just when I thought the plot was getting predictable I was greeted with a nice unexpected twist. I would recommend this story if you enjoyed The Fallen series and are looking for a bit more of an upbeat story. I will be reading the next one in the series!
*The book was provided by the author for an honest review*
Angels, Demons, Betrayal, Love, Lust and a great Sacrifice
All of those elements made up the whole world of The Morning Star. As an angel/demon lover, I tend to read books that are all the same in their own way. With this book, I was pleasantly surprised to see a new take on Angels and Demons. The story was uniquely made and well-written. I loved it from the start (and that says a lot from the author). She was able to create fresh characters that I haven't seen before and it was exciting to read something new. With that said, the story evolves around Dawn, a high school student, who is anything but a regular girl. As the daughter of Lucifer, she and her half-sister Venus have lived for centuries recruiting souls for their dad. Apart from having awesome powers, they are different in their own ways. Dawn, is not only the daughter of Lucifer, but she is also the daughter of an angel. On the other hand, Venus is part demon and part siren (daughter of a succubus). With their differences aside, they are still two wickedly sisters that are on a hunt for souls and do the right thing (being bad) for their dad, Lucifer. Living as students in the human world is not always fun for the sisters, especially for Dawn since she is part good, it's sometimes hard for her to do bad things for her father. But it all changes when a exchanged student, Gabriel, comes to their school and starts pursuing Dawn. With the looks of an angel, Dawn is immediately attractive to him, which it is because of that attraction that a lot of problems come along as well. Overall, I really enjoyed reading this book, it has everything in a book that I look for and it makes it a must-read on my list. I love the personalities of the characters and the mystery. Although in the ending we were left with a huge cliffhanger, it makes sense if there is going to be another book in the series.
I can't wait to read what happens next and see where Dawn and Gabriel end up in the future.
What a fantastic, quick, engaging read The Morning Star is!!! I read this book in a little over 1 day because I COULD NOT put it down!! I would bookmark.... go back... bookmark.... go back!! I would say time for bed... and end up getting my iPad back out again so I could read about Dawn!! Great job Tania Penn at writing a different spin to the whole angel/demon genre and making the characters real beings we could make connections to!
Dawn's character was intriguing to me right from page 1! I loved how she was a perfect mix of angel and demon, good and evil, but had these perfectly normal human feelings that made her seem so genuine. Dawn was Satan and the only female Archangel's daughter. She could make fire with her hands... and caused some mischief for her dear old daddy. Underneath that beautiful demon exterior was a kind hearted, loving, thoughtful girl. I wondered the entire book which side of Dawn would she grasp onto and what side would she take? Dawn showed compassion in the only way she knew how to people she cared about. Sometimes that compassion is what led her to trouble and got her caught in traps.
The family dynamics in this book had me cracking up. If you ignore the fact that Dawn's dad is Satan, her step mother is an original succubus that Satan created himself, her half sister is an evil little vixen, and her mother is an imprisoned Archangel... oh and the boy she falls in love with.... keep an eye on him. So, take away all of those facts and Dawn is just a normal high school teenager trying to live her life and face challenges thrown her way.
I give The Morning Star 4 stars on the knock my socks off scale! If paranormal is your cup of tea.... this is a MUST read!! I am patiently.... well not really patiently.... waiting for book 2 so I can continue following the story of Dawn and what does she decide to do?!?!?!?!
The first thing that caught my attention in this book to read the synopsis was the fact that the book's protagonist is the daughter of Lucifer, was the main attraction to my decision to read this book. I have read several books about angels and demons and this is the first that I run where the plot is a little different.
The Morning Star is told from multiple points of view to be the main voice of Dawn Belial, a girl who appears to be 17 years old, but in reality is a bit more for a few hundred years (if not thousands), it appears to be a normal girl attending school along with his half-sister, has few friends, attending parties, only to have extracurricular activities imposed by his father Lucifer, because in his spare time with his half-sister Venus recruit souls for Hell (or the other side as Dawn called). And everything is normal in her life until she meets a boy Gabriel exchange for which he feels a great attraction, occupying his thoughts and he was thinking the first time in a long time and given the opportunity to go out with a human.
I liked the characters although Dawn is the daughter of Lucifer and is extremely beautiful, is a little nerd and you love art and art restorer, she adores her father but as expected and is afraid it complies with all orders or jobs that are required even if later feel a little regret as the daughter of an archangel Lucifer and it's both light and darkness. And Gabriel is a guy who is attracted exchange Dawn. And I like both Venus, she is a succubus and a half-sister Dawn, with which does not get along.
I really liked The Morning Star, although there are not many surprises in the plot, because the plot is open, since when are the views of Gabriel and others you see where it goes the story, but the idea is interesting.
The Morning Star was a great debut novel by Tania Penn. I actually had a hard time getting into the book at first but I pushed myself to continue and I am glad I did. I felt like the beginning was a little dis-jointed and that was why I struggled to get into the story but once Gabriel was introduced and the plot started to come together, I was much more intrigued. I liked seeing Lucifer as a loving father and it was a different kind of story to see him portrayed this way. However, he is still Lucifer.
I liked Dawn and how she embraced life. Her mother is an angel and her father is Lucifer so I think working for her father was often conflicting but she handles is so maturely and she loves her father, even if he is Lucifer. Falling in love with Gabriel, a human, is really hard for her because she knows it can never truly be but she dives in head first and I liked that about her. Gabriel was so hot and cold in the beginning and I understood why but I still wanted to smack him upside the head a few times. I don't feel like we really got to know Gabriel that well in this book so I am hoping there will be a lot more of him in the next one.
Overall, this was a great read and I am looking forward to the next one. The author did a really good job of throwing in a few unexpected plot twists toward the end that kept me on my toes. There were definitely a few things that I was not expecting to happen and it fueled my need to read more. I thought she did a really good job of almost making me see Lucifer as a decent man only to re-affirm that he is the devil. I can't wait to see what happens now for Dawn and Gabriel.
This was a great book. It’s somewhere between fabulous and OMG! If you like books along the lines of Beautiful Creatures, Matched, Twilight (to an extent), etc., you will love this book. The author has come up with a great story involving Lucifer and his daughters without making it tacky, which, in my opinion, is difficult to do. The characters are believable and likable, the setting adds to the story, and the plot is definitely a page turner.
Meet Lucifer, who prefers to be called Luc, and his daughters, Dawn and Venus. Dawn is the daughter of Luc’s unrequited love, Archangel Michaela, who he has imprisoned. Michaela is in love with Archangel Ramiel, who is desperately trying to free her from her confines. In his efforts, he sends in his son, Gabriel, to manipulate Dawn, who is said to be the only one beside Luc who can free Michaela. Gabriel and Dawn fall for each other, and fall hard. Ensue chaos.
There are so many small details and descriptions that make this story come to life. You’ll definitely be laughing out loud at parts. I even teared up toward the end.
This book is definitely going to rise to stardom in the Young Adult Paranormal Fiction genre. There was some brief, mild sexual content so it is not suitable for teens but is appropriate for young adults (18+).
All-in-all, great book. I look forward to reading the second one!
*My review is honest and done without compensation.*
The Morning start is about Dawn, daughter of Lucifer (fallen angel, devil, collector of evil souls building an army to take over Heaven) and Michaela (Archangel who has been trapped for centuries by Lucifer because of his "love" for her). Dawn has been trying for years to figure out how to free her mother but has to have her father's permission to even get to where she's held captive. Added to that she has her succubus step-mom Lilth and half-sister Venus to keep her on her toes. Until the day she meets Gabriel and everything changes. Falling in love, she will discover a secret about him as well as about herself.
I enjoyed the plot line and the flow of words. Tania certainly has a gift for keeping things moving yet still describing in such detail that you can truly imagine the places she describes. I absolutely loved Dawn's family . Despite the fact that 3/4 of them are evil, it felt like a true blended family - the dynamics were all there and perfect! The Morning Star was a well written novel that leaves you wanting more at the end. I finished it in less than a day! :) I honestly turned the page (okay, clicked the button but you get the point) and kept trying until I had to face the fact that it was over and now I anxiously await the sequel.. sigh.
Dawn has lived a long life as the daughter of Lucifer and an archangel mother. This combination makes for an interesting personality, and although Dawn works for her father, she's been searching for a way to release her mother. She acts like a typical teen, albeit one with a succubus sister and an urge to set fires, and when she meets Gabriel., she's instantly smitten. I enjoyed the plotlines of this book as well as the characters. I think there's a lot Tania can do, and with the ending how it was, I'm very anxious to read more. That being said, I also would have liked to see more about this world so that I could understand some things - like why didn't Dawn age? Why did she only do her father's bidding when she was her mother's child too? Why was she in high school again? (That certainly wouldn't be my choice after living nearly a thousand years!) However, despite my questions, I still enjoyed this book and am looking forward to seeing what happens with Dawn and Gabriel and their situation.
The Good: Loved the world Tania created and enjoyed Dawn as a MC.
The Issue: Would have liked to see more with Dawn and Silas (perhaps even worthy of a prequel) because their relationship seemed to come out of nowhere. Also issues with tense changing throughout.
The Rating: 4 stars. A cool new world with a lot of potential for future stories.
Books about angels can be either hit or miss in my personal opinion. I feel it's really hard to write one that I like. I was thrilled with The Morning Star. It had lots of angels and talk of the creator, but I did not feel like I was being preached to, or reading an overly religious book. The Morning Star is filled with well written characters I immediately connected with. Everyone was very well written. I loved the way Lucifer was portrayed. He was still very angelic in his appearance and social standings, but still had the attitude you would expect out of a fallen angel. Dawn-the daughter of Lucifer and an Archangel- is relatable, and an awesome protagonist. She has a lot of good in her, but she is the daughter of the devil. And, Gabriel, he's hot, blonde, and British. (I swear I go into books not knowing there is going to be a guy with an accent.) I think I am in love with this angel. The feel, the story line, the characters-everything about this book felt fresh and new to me. The only thing I had a problem with was that it ended. (But that's a good thing right?) This is one of those series that I want to have the next book in my hands the day it comes out. I recommend you get a copy now!
I’m going to be pining away for Equinox. Seriously. Pining away. As an avid angel lover, I loved this book!!
My Rating
4.25 Art Gallery, High school drama, Interfering persuasion, Sultry Succubus, Molten wings, Unforeseen fall, Enlightening Drive, Irrevocable Love Filled Stars! If you enjoy reading about angels then you will be delighted with this wonderful tale...Fall in love with a twist;)
Smore please!!! I was drawn in to the book from the very beginning and had a hard time putting it down. I was quite surprised when I reached the end, hoping for more. I was drawn to the characters. Even though I've been raised Christian all my life and know the truth Dawn makes a strong believable case that "Hell" isn't nearly as bad as we make it out to be. The only element I had a hard time believing and picturing in my mind was Dawn's sister Venus being able to change race and body styles in an instant to grab a guy's attention.
I loved this book and highly recommend it. Tania has a gift with words. After reading the setting description, I could feel the crunchy grass under my feet and the warm breeze in my face. I never thought that I'd enjoy reading a book about Lucifer but I did. The characters had depth and the story was well thought out.
5 completely deserved stars from this reader! Looking forward to future books by Tania.
Wow! Dawn Belial's family is truly synonymous with dysfunction. With Lucifer as her father, an archangel for her mother and a wicked step-sister, this girl has a lot going on before she even leaves her home! However, there's a lot more to this story when her love interest, Gabriel unexpectedly comes into the picture. Loved the story and can't wait to find out what happens in the sequel.
I will be forever inlove with books about celestial beings.. Celestial beings like angels, demons, heaven and earth topics. I am totally inlove with and thankful to Tania Penn for this book. I can't wait to read Equinox. Looking forward to reading more of Dawn and Gabriel..
