Breaking away from her small town to go away to college, she thought she’d finally made it. For someone like Brooke—smart, sexy, bold, and confident—the sky should have been the limit. But a mere five years later, she found herself right back where she started: living in her parents’ apartment in the same little town in the middle of nowhere.
Though she’d rather be just about anywhere else, Brooke is determined to help her parents save the inn they nearly bankrupted. With this heavy responsibility on her shoulders, Brooke has little time—or inclination—to put much effort into her love life. Instead, she relies on her best friends, Emily and Paul, for companionship and support, and relegates the men in her life to the role of drinking buddies and one-night stands.
Brooke is perfectly happy with this arrangement until a new guest at the inn challenges everything she once thought about love. John is gorgeous, sophisticated, and exciting, and it looks like he might be hanging around for much longer than a weekend visit.
But when hidden mistakes from the past surface, the inn’s very survival is threatened—and John himself may be involved in its imminent downfall. Suddenly forced to question everything she ever assumed about her small-town life, Brooke must now take a closer look at what is truly important to her. In doing so, she will find that true love is not nearly as complicated or scary as she thought—and may be much closer to home than she ever imagined.
"Real love wasn't about how exciting someone was, or how sophisticated. Real love was about knowing someone, truly knowing them, about wanting their happiness as much as your own. It was about enjoying the same things, about agreeing on what was important, about what mattered to you. Real love meant sharing all of yourself, not just pieces, with another person, with someone who understood you and accepted you, faults and all. Someone who would defend you, someone who always had your back."
That about says it all on the theme of this series. I need not say more. This second installment is the love story of girl 2 of 3...on to the next love story, that of girl 3 of 3.
Don't know if I liked this book as much as the first one but it was still good. This one seemed a little more serious than the first but that's probably because some of the characters from the first didn't have as much page time.
Rachel Schurig's newest offering An Unexpected Love Story (Love Story Book Two) is book two in her Love Story series.
With the ease and talent she has shown in writing the Three Girls series I am falling in love with the characters in her newest series. Since this is book two I would suggest you read In Search of a Love Story first since events and characters from that novel are referenced in this one.
Brooke Murray the main protagonist of this novel was introduced in book one as Emily Donovan's best friend who was still back in their hometown running her family's inn.
We find Brooke despairing of changing her life to go home and deal with the aftermath of her father's illness that led to her managing her family's inn and trying to get it to turn a profit. I liked Brooke's personality and her friendship with Paul (former lover and currently working for her) and her love/ hate relationship with still living in her hometown.
Brooke though is unexpectedly changed after meeting an inn customer John and falling for his urban and sophisticated style. Feeling thrown for the first time ever by a man we get to see Brooke grow up and choose what future she wants. We also get some throw away lines about characters from Three Girls which was welcomed. I really loved the push/ pull with Brooke and seeing her realize her worth. I have read this novel twice already and plan on reading it one more time before reading the third and final book, An (Almost) Perfect Love Story (Love Story Book Three)
Continuing the series, An Unexpected Love Story was my second read. The novel picks up where Emily story's ends and this time Brooke find love unexpectedly. Having to leave her MBA plans behind, she moves home to take care of her parents' inn. Striding the line between feeling frustrated about giving up her dreams and helping her loved ones, she resides herself into living in her hometown. When a handsome strangers sweeps her off her feet and threatens to carry her away, will she finally realize that there's no place like home?
For some reason, this book took me a little longer to read than the others by this author but it was enjoyable just the same. This story revolves around Brooke, a beautiful woman who moved back home after college to help her parents run their family inn. She meets John, falls in love and then discovers that he isn't the man of her dreams but realizes that the person who is has been there all along. Perfect chick lit, for sure!
I enjoyed this more than the first book. A less predictable plot and a lot more atmosphere . Being in a small town, the hotel, the lakes, the woods creates a lovely image of closeness and warmth that you just don't get in a city based story. I didn't realise until the this book that all of these books have connections back to the three girls stories. That's a nice touch. Nice to know that the girls are still alive out there and doing well.
I wasn't thrilled with some of the personality traits of the main character in this book. It was kind of like if you're loyal to your friends and family, anything else you do is fine. I like certain aspects, but wasn't as happy with this one overall. I like the way we learned more about the other characters though.
This was a great book from about the main character's best friend finding true love. It was a sweet love story. I enjoyed it and getting the next book.
Great second book in the series - another great chick lit from Rachel Schurig. Books I can lose myself in and forget about everything else around me - my guilty pleasure!
