I don't know why I do this to myself. I enjoy these books but I find them so frustrating. It's like all of these ancient guys aren't capable of learning a damn thing. Gavin and Teeg are still ridiculous and incompetent. Griffin is worthless.

Sometimes I think my only justification for reading these books is the hope that Lissa, Reah, and now Breanne will rise up, cull the worthless mates, and take over the universe.

I like this author, and I have read some of her other books/series and really enjoyed them, but I did not like this book at all. It is rare that I stick with a book after recognizing that I am not enjoying it, but I just kept thinking it would get better - there are so many rave reviews on both Amazon and goodreads. But, I don't get it. The best part was definitely the main character, but after being knocked down all the time in every situation, I found myself yelling at her to speak up or stand up for herself. Very frustrating. Plus - the number of excess characters who served no point whatsoever was unreal. We need to know the name of every character's 3+ mates? Seriously - I was tempted to go back through and do a character count - 75 people? 100 people? Overall the writing struck me as very stilted and disjointed - and the characters seemed very flat and one-dimensional. Ms. Sutton has infused characters before in other series with various emotions, so I'm not sure what happened here. Summary: it wasn't worth the money I spent on it.

I feel like every main female character in this universe is the same. Abused, short, a cook, oppressed by men, eventually super overpowered, screwed over by some uber-being somewhere, somehow, with daddy issues.

This book is just aaaaAAAAHHHHH.

description

Too much information, rambling writing, the 'journal' style gave me a headache and the plot line was confusing. Just GAH. I would not recommend this book to anyone.

However I am led to believe that there are books previous to this series, and maybe if I had read these first I would have had a better grasp of the plot line, world building etc...

description
I won't be reading them.

Any way this was a big DNF because I have better things to do, however I was well past the half way mark and skimmed the rest so I feel I have a good enough grasp to give an honest review regardless.

I am absolutely thrilled that a friend recommended Connie Suttle's books to me. I like everything that Connie has created. Lissa, Ashe, Reah and now Breanne are wonderful. They have each overcome much in their lives but still show love, loyalty, wisdom and more. I feel like I know all of the people in these books and plan to follow them for as long as possible. There are definitely some more people I would like to see taken down a peg. There is an almost constant emotional rollercoaster ride. I have gone from fear to anger to tears and joy.
I recommend that all of Connie's books be read in the order written to get the full story of this marvelous world.

What can I say?! The worlds this author has created draw me in until I can't stop reading until the book is finished and then I must grab the next one so I can carry on with the story of the wonderful characters she has created
A new character has appeared on the scene as Lissa stays away from her world, and her trials, tribulations and development took hold of my heart and emotions. I can't praise this enough.
My only warning is that you must read these books in order from the ver first of the first series.

MAJOR SPOILERS THROUGHOUT:
I loved this book! It was fast paced and constantly had my attention. It was constantly on my mind and I didn't want to go to sleep because I wanted to continue reading it. I loved the new characters and I enjoyed getting to see the old characters. I also enjoyed the new point of views. I had a lot of fun in the new characters' heads as well as the old. I will say that you have to read the previous series to understand what is happening. If you do not, none of the characters or the world will make sense to you.
Breanne was great. I enjoyed watching her story come together and watch her grow. I loved her character development and I can't wait to see how that progresses in later installments. She did cower a little when it came to some of the male characters, but she definitely stood up for herself at the end of the book. She kicked ass and got stuff done. I feel like we have barely touched on the power that Breanne has and I know that she is capable of more than what we saw in this book.
If I ever thought I could grow to like Gavin, Teeg, or Norian after what they did in previous books, those hopes were squashed during this book. Gavin and Teeg treated Breanne horribly. I was shocked at how much they seemed to hate her right off the bat. I have seen both of them treat criminals better than her and that is totally unacceptable. I really hope that karma bites them in the ass in later installments. Norian treated Kay like a lowlife criminal which was also unacceptable. She was a victim in what happened to her but he treated her like she committed the acts herself. He then has the audacity to say she is faking?! I was appalled at his behavior and I really hope that Ashe makes hims suffer for it later.
I was shocked when Lissa's mate bond with Merrill was restored by Breanne. I never thought that would happen in a million years. I used to hate Merrill for asking Griffin to take away his mate bond with Lissa but I think he really understands now what he was missing all of those years. I am actually really happy that things turned out the way they did for Lissa and Merrill. Lissa deserves more happiness in her life and I think Merrill can provide it.
Overall, I think this was a stunning first book. I thought going in that it would be decent and set everything up for the series but it wasn't. It surpassed all of my expectations and set a new bar for the rest of the series. I really hope that the future installments are just as good as this one was. If they are, this will easily be Connie's best series yet. I am so excited to continue with the series and I can't wait to start reading Blood Trouble.

What would you do, if you were suddenly taken to a different planet and left behind without any instructions, whatsoever and later on accused and brutally bitten for a crime you haven't committed and left for death? Well, Breanne doesn't even have a luxury to make any choices. She is turned into a vampire against her will, her appearance changed to match those of the Queen of the LeAth Veronis, to stand as her double, whether she likes it or not.

Mistreated (if you can even call it that) all her life, Breanne is at the end of her rope. She doesn't want to parade as a Queen, but she has no say on that matter or, to be fair, in any matter. Because of her gift, or rather - as she likes to think of it - her curse, she can read any person she gazes upon. That makes her very valuable and, at the same time, very dangerous to those around her. Will Breanne do as she is told or will she snap and turn on people who mistreat her? You have to read this book to find out :)

My thoughts

I've said it many times and I say it again, I love the world and characters that Connie Suttle creates. I simply get lost in her books and have to remind myself to eat and drink, 'cause it's so hard for me to put her books down once I start reading one of them. This book is not an exception of that rule. The old characters from previous books which I grown to love are present and we can experience what is happening to them and what changes their life created for them. Breanne is another strong woman character and like Lisa and Reah, she didn't have a happy life. We learn so much about Breanne in this book but maybe because of that I'm really curious about Kay/Kalia so I'm looking forward for the next book in the series :)

I love Connie Suttle's books and really looked forward to this new series continuing the story of Lissa and Reah.

Unfortunately, I was very disappointed with this book. The book is just basically a description of continuous unrelenting abuse and characters repeating the same mistakes they made in the previous 'Blood Destiny' and 'High Demon' series of books. This wouldn't have been so bad if the story wasn't so disjointed. There are numerous sub-plots and characters, with each storyline taking up only a few pages before jumping to another sub-plot. The story just doesn't flow and the reading experience is frustrating.

After finishing the book I read lots of the 5 star reviews on Goodreads.com and began to think we haven't read the same book. I really do love Connie Suttle's books and have given 5 stars to nearly every Connie Suttle book I have read, but I really do think this is the worst book I have read so far. I will read the next book in the series in the hope things improve, but this is the first time I will not be looking forward to the next book in the series.

Extra

I have just finished the second book 'Blood Trouble' and thankfully I can say it is a big improvement on the first book. The storyline concentrates on Breanne so is more coherent and easier to follow. I am now looking forward to the rest of the series.

Breanne has been through a tough time in her life, and now she must endure being turned into a vampire by Gavin. Lissa is not around at the moment, and Breanne is turning out to be more and more like her. But, Gavin doesn't like Breanne at all. And he starts to change and make her life really horrible.

As the story goes on, Breanne starts to learn who she is, and what she really wants to do with her life. I liked this book overall, and I'm excited for more in this series.

There are just two things that piss me off. The fact that the heroine puts up with the males, and the fact that two of the males are into BDSM, I hated that, and felt it didn't make much sense to me at all. I hated that.

But, now I look forward to more in this series.

Still addicted to this series of series and happy that it continues. Enjoyed the new set of characters which brings some minor players in previous books to the forefront. I know that the heroines must go thru hardship to develop into the strong powerful chosen ones they are meant to be, but a little disappointed with the treatment of Breanne. At one point I hoped she'd just mist them all and call it a day...

Love this series. Had a whole range of emotions while reading. From anger, sadness, to happiness. There were some times I wanted to jump into the book and knock some sense into the characters. There were other times I did a happy dance.

As I said, love this series. I would definitely recommend reading. Make sure to read Connie's earlier books, such as the Blood Destiny and High Demon Series first as some things will be given away.

Gavin and Gavril still jerks. Most of the "good guys" should be categorized as bad and sent to prison for abuse.
But I still enjoy all the books from this author

The female leads are strong but tried to commit suicide at one point or another because of the abuse of people who should have protected them

This review is regarding the God Wars series. This book won't make any sense without having read the blood destiny series. Even having had read that series too, there are WAY to many characters. There has to be around 30 or more. There are also too many perspectives. The writing is good but there are a lot of elements that I had to gloss over to enjoy the book. The fetishes being one. If you liked the blood destiny series you may like this but I don't think you can read this and have it make any sense without having read the other series.

Gripping!

Breanne was such a likeable character! The only thing I didn't like about the book was that some characters from Lisa's books were total jerks to Breanne. Other than that this book is fantastic!

I have read the entire series (and the series that come before this one: blood destiny, high demon, legend of the Ir'Indicti)
The writing isn't bad, but waaaaaay too complicated.
The are so many mates to keep track of, plus the fact that there are some that were reincarnations of previous deceised characters.
In the final book of this serie, in addition to all that, you keep skipping between 2 timelines, where some characters get to appear in both timelines... I felt like taking notes or something... I read a lot, but these were the first books that I had real trouble getting the characters and surroundings to visualise in my mind, because I was too busy with keeping up with all these people...
And the sex... Every freacking time that it gets hot, the writer ends the scene... Aaarrgh!
Nope. No. Never again..

Breanne was brought to le’ath by force. an old woman told not to leave. She’s placed under Rathiks care and begins to work on Lissa paperwork. After an attack she’s forced to chance to vampire. Gavin her sire hates her guts and begins to torture her. He tells everyone she’s there to replace lissa and the people hate her because of it. Teeg then asks his father to let him use her talents for reading people and he begins to torture her. This book has it all lissa is away on a secret project she couldn’t tell anyone about, a mind cloud is making people hate breanna except people who care deeply for her. A lion snake in her bed, cops who want to do more than be friends, a star brother who sees stars when he looks at her and a few others who can’t help but like her.

In order to enjoy this book to the fullest read the high demon series first you won’t regret it!!

Ok so Breanne story was all over the place meaning it involved a whole lot of people. Ashe was reintroduce since his books and we hear what's happening with the shifters from star Cove.

Gavin and Gavril treat Breanne like s..t and to later find out who she is. I am unsure how they would have treated her if they didn't have a mind cloud.

Ashe made it worst when she basically found 2 mates and he shouted at Trajan about why is that woman her and he dump her at the palace.

It would seem that Griffin's daughters always experience a horrible childhood and life before now.

Her journey it seems has just begun

I have bought, read and enjoyed all of Connie's books.
The only disappointment is that it is another female heroin subservient to weaker males.
All the heroins (Lissa, Reah and now Breanne) are more powerful than the men around them
and yet the same theme has been applied to all 3. Abused, neglected and subservient to
the men around them. Can we have some back bone please. Even little Ashe had a mind of his own.
Yes, I am a male and would like to see the heroins have some gumption.

Another great start for Connie Suttle on her latest series. As always, it is an emotional roller coaster of ups and downs (mostly downs) but worth the ride. Lots of twists and turns to keep you guessing what will happen next and the world building is as intricate as ever. This is one author with an impressive imagination. Not as many mentions of food come up this time so at least I didn't gain a few pounds reading this one. The end had me ready for more. Can't wait to read the next book!

I just don't know

The heroines blend and I see no difference really in the characters. The demon series and this series just has the same tortured heroine who is timid and scared. The only word I can truly describe the heroines' are damaged. Btw you will need to read the other series' in order to get this series. I just read the demon series so I get Reah's character but not Lissa because I never read the blood one.

Please stop making me cry. Could not put down the book. Urban Fatasy that has characters grow and some just get mean. Breanne is a humble suprise. Dude I don't like Ashe (hand of Power) at the moment & Gavin and Galvin you treat individuals poorly. Thank you for the Heart. Look forward to finding out who the Hand of Mind

Great start to a new series by my favorite author! At first, I thought this book was a little bit disjointed, but as I kept reading, the disjointedness disappeared and it flowed well. It was awesome to see quite a few characters that we haven't seen in a while and we even got to meet some new ones.

Blood Double

Loved this book. I've never seen a universe so highly constructed, which was confusing at first, but the book had so much to offer that I was addicted til the end and immediately bought and am getting ready to start reading immediately. Connie Suttle is a wonderful paranormal/fantasy author!!
