Kaur Kender, is an Estonian author and entrepreneur.
An advertising executive by profession, Kender entered the Estonian literary scene in 1998 with his debut novel "Independence Day" ("Iseseisvuspäev"). Since then his books have enjoyed unprecedented popularity in Estonia with the old and the young, the literary elite and the popular culture.
His writing is as controversial and provocative as his own life and personality – a semiotician and former advertising executive, he has once said that sometimes he wishes that truck drivers and prostitutes would write more books because they have unusual stories to tell.
Although old (released in 2002 when Estonia wasn't even using euros), this book was co-written by one of Estonia's most successful businessmen as well as my favorite Estonian writer, and it holds up well.
The investment advice in it is simple, sound and full of common sense, and is similar to what can be found in other more popular investment books, such as the The Gone Fishin' Portfolio, although presented in a more entertaining and readable way.
In any case, it finally convinced me to start investing in index funds. I guess I'll see in 10-30 years whether all that compound interest is really as good as they say it is.
Is that too long? Well, tough luck. That's how the world works. Get-rich-quick schemes are for the suckers.
