Westford Hall

Rate this book
Westford Hall lies back from the quad, quiet and empty. A dark reminder of the horrific murder of six members of the Tri Delta brotherhood thirty years ago, and the subject of Ethan's thesis.
Ethan Reece is in his second year of Professor Allen's paranormal psychology class, and is hoping to be the first to establish documented proof that Westford Hall is haunted.

Hiring the university's best photography student to help with the investigation, Ethan is disappointed when he has to be replaced after an accident. Which is how he finds himself saddled with the university's best stoner instead.

Daniel Cartwright comes from money. He won't deny it. Why should he? More than aware of the reputation he has on campus, he ambles through life with the help of his parents. At least that's what everyone thinks. When his friend breaks his leg and volunteers him to assist the biggest nerd on campus with his spooky investigation, Dan is not exactly ecstatic.

Thrown together by fate; to their surprise the two young men find they are drawn together by mutual attraction, but that's not the only surprise awaiting them in Westford Hall. Coming face to face with an actual ghost, they uncover a story of murder, deceit and despair that leaves them facing a danger they were not prepared for.

I live in Leigh on Sea, a small seaside town just outside London on the coast of Essex, about ten minutes from Southend, which boasts the longest pier in the world. I live with my husband and two ever-growing children, who I let think are the boss of me; along with two dogs who actually are.

As the wonderful Beatrix Potter said, “There is something delicious about writing the first words of a new story. You never quite know where they’ll take you.” I know exactly what she means.

Lisa Worrall could not have written a more simplistic, juvenile paranormal story if she had used crayons. Ethan and Dan did not even like each other when they began the investigation but Worrall had then rolling around in bed quickly enough. In essence, most of this story is one long drawn out sex scene. Ms Worrall may as well have just written sugar coated porn. The fact that the real killer at Westford Hall returned to the college and waited years to find some dupe to talk to Brad's ghost is ludicrous. The only satisfying thing about this loser is that it finally ended.

This was fun, and much more light-hearted than I'd anticipated going into a ghost story. I liked the humorous sarcastic vibe that Dan and Ethan had in addition to the believable attraction. I'm not bothered by insta-love so the relationship worked for me, but it's possible it might not for others.

I couldn't help wishing the mystery might have been slightly more mysterious, or that the haunted house might have been slightly more terrifying. I'm a huge scaredy-cat, so don't get me wrong, I LOVED that the ghost decided to be fun and friendly instead of vengeful and scary. I'd prepared myself for scary, though, and couldn't help feel just a little let down that it wasn't.

Still a very fun story.

Hell, I even took one guy over for a few minutes and wrote in his notebook. All it did was freak him out and I never saw him again.

I ABSOLUTELY LOVE this book! Lisa Worrall has written a fantastic story with a very accurate description of the equipment used to investigate paranormal activity. The characters are very convincing and three dimensional and the twist at the end of the story will positively blow your mind and you'll never see it coming. I really recommend putting it on the top of your reading list!

Ethan is hoping to find proof that Westford Hall is haunted for his paranormal psychology class, all set for a night in the reputed haunted house on campus with a great photography student, he is disappointed when he ends up with the man’s friend as a replacement instead. Dan helps his friend out by taking his place at Westford Hall, being stuck with nerdy Ethan in a supposed haunted house isn’t his idea of fun, and when things start to happen all he wants is to stay the hell away from the place. But a mystery unfolds that Ethan and Dan get caught up in, just how do they help put to rest a ghost who wants the truth to come out?

This is a great ghost story that is in parts funny and others poignantly sad with a great twist at the end. Both Ethan and Dan are great characters; Ethan is a nerd who is surprisingly judgmental but who is quick to admit his mistakes, Dan is rumored to be a slacker but is in truth the opposite, his reputation as a slacker was earned protecting a friend, he is an absolute gem with his reactions and he plays nicely off Ethan. The ghost is wonderful with his poignant story and his wicked sense of humor, and with his determination over the years to get the truth of his death in the open.

Westford Hall is a great combination of fun, love, mystery and suspense, the elements have been woven together to give a delightful tale of a ghost who wants justice. The relationship between Ethan and Dan was sweet, them finding common ground when at the start they clashed. I found Dan’s reactions to the events in the haunted Westford Hall to be both funny and realistic, while you could see Ethan’s scientific excitement and his eagerness to dig deeper, I had to agree with Dan’s reactions.

There are some flashbacks to the events of the past, but they are beautifully slotted into the story and they add a touch of knowing to the suspense. There was only one thing that confused me though… just when did the young men die? I ask because when Ethan was telling the story of the murders he said it happened in nineteen seventy four, but then later during a flashback it described the house from nineteen eighty two. Other than that small discrepancy I have to admit that after finishing this book I am left with the hope (and praying) that Lisa Worrall will give us more from Dan and Ethan in the future, *sigh* well I can only hope.

I am recommending this story as a must read if you love ghosts finding justice and discovering their lost love, a new love developing, mystery, suspense, a great twist and a very happy ending for young men and ghosts alike.

5 stars and a Recommended Book!

The author has a crisp, clear and concise style of writing that displays a in-depth knowledge of her subject and her grasp of the murder mystery premise is superb. The story is told both chronologically and in flashbacks, but I was never confused about what was going on and when.
I absolutely love how she kept me guessing until the very last page of the story and how I thought I knew how it was going to end and then-WHAM! I got hit with a surprise twist at the very last that I never saw coming!
The main characters get their HEA and so do some of the secondary characters in a very original way. I really REALLY enjoyed reading this fascinating story and would definitely recommend it to everyone!

Theme was right up my alley. Quick story, but didn't feel rushed or too short. Dan & Ethan make a great couple. Hopefully, she will make this a series with so they can solve more ghostly mysteries and we can see things like Ethan meeting Dan's parents. :)

Side note: Sex was mild, for those who prefer that. It fit with the length of the story so it didn't bother my pervy side as much as it may have otherwise.

This is an amazing read!!

I do love: hot boys, fumbling love, supernatural events, sweet kissing, ghosts, a little angst, a little action and a Happy Ending.
I got it all here.

Lisas new book is so worth a read, a lovely night in bed without anyone annoying you, just you, the side lamp and this book.

Perfect!

The twist in the end was one I had not seen coming and it was just fantastic.

Like a 3.75 but I'm rounding down for not researching and finding out that Tri-Delta is a huge and well known national SORORITY. They even used to have an ongoing Saturday Night Live skit about them. Writing is good though and I like the ghost story.

I liked this one a lot. It wasn't really a scary story and I knew fairy early on who the bad guy was. But the history behind the haunting was interesting and sad and sweet and the relationship between the Mcs was also sweet. All in all a very enjoyable read.

A quick, spooky tale of murder and misdeeds that I quite enjoyed!
Ethan and Dan are investigating the scene of an old multiple murder to try to prove the existence of ghosts. They are shocked to discover Brad, one of the victims still tied to the house.
As well as the romance between the two men, which was quick but cute, there is the mystery of the old murder for them to get to the bottom off. The obvious murder suspect is spot on and no surprises really in the who or why, except for the assistant thug.
Anyway, I enjoyed it as a quick ghostly romp.

A great little mystery blended with romance, ghosts, and comedic bickering than you usually expect. for the genre Not everyone enjoys instant connections but as long as it fits the story and the characters I find it very enjoyable and that's what we have with Ethan and Dan. Sure they argue but you know that the heated words and attitude they share is powered by something much more. Throw in murder and ghosts and you have a great little novella to add to your paranormal library.

This book could have used a bit more fleshing out, not only on back story, but also on the actual crimes and the people committing them. The ghosts needed to be a tad more subtle too. On the whole, though, not a bad read.

Very likable MCs. Great ghost story, although I was surprised, but also not, at the villain and accomplice.
