Lucy Maud Montgomery was a Canadian author whose novels, stories, essays and poems made her one of the most widely read writers in Canadian literary history. Publishing under the name L. M. Montgomery, she achieved international recognition with the novel Anne of Green Gables, released in 1908, which quickly became a bestseller and introduced readers to the imaginative orphan Anne Shirley. The success of the book transformed Montgomery from a schoolteacher and magazine contributor into a celebrated literary figure whose work reached audiences far beyond Canada. Raised on Prince Edward Island, she drew deeply on its landscapes, rural communities, and storytelling traditions, turning the island into the setting for many of her novels. The popularity of Anne of Green Gables led to numerous sequels, including Anne of Avonlea and Anne of the Island, establishing a beloved series that followed Anne from childhood to adulthood. Montgomery continued to write steadily throughout her life, producing twenty novels and more than a thousand short stories poems and essays. Her fiction often centered on young women, personal growth, and the emotional ties between people and place, combining gentle humor with reflections on memory, imagination, and belonging. Although she enjoyed enormous popularity, Montgomery also faced personal difficulties, including long periods of depression and the strain of caring for her husband, a Presbyterian minister who struggled with mental illness. Writing became both a profession and a refuge, allowing her to transform memories of childhood and observation of everyday life into vivid storytelling. In addition to the Anne series, she created other notable works, including the Emily novels and several stand alone stories that explored identity, creativity, and attachment to home. Her books were translated widely and attracted devoted readers around the world, helping shape the international image of Prince Edward Island as a place of pastoral beauty and warm community life. Scholars later studied her extensive journals letters and manuscripts, which revealed the complex inner life behind the cheerful tone of many of her books. By the time of her death in 1942, Montgomery had become one of the most successful and influential authors in Canadian literature. Her stories about imagination, resilience, and the search for belonging continue to inspire readers of all ages, and Anne Shirley remains one of the most recognizable characters in children's fiction. Through generations of readers, Montgomery's work has encouraged appreciation for storytelling, nature, and the emotional richness of ordinary life. Her legacy also includes a vast body of diaries and correspondence that document the challenges faced by a professional woman writer in the early twentieth century. Institutions such as the L. M. Montgomery Institute have continued to examine her influence on literature culture and tourism, particularly on Prince Edward Island, where sites associated with her fiction attract visitors from many countries. Adaptations of Anne of Green Gables for film, television, and theatre have introduced new audiences to her stories, ensuring that her characters remain part of global popular culture. Though critical opinion once dismissed her as merely a writer for children, later scholarship recognized the depth of her themes and the enduring craft of her storytelling. Today she is remembered as a central figure in Canadian literature whose imaginative vision gave voice to the beauty of rural life while celebrating the hopes of young dreamers who search for belonging.
The books I've probably read the most times in my life. I'm talking in the dozens here. Absolutely foundational stuff to everything of importance at all. Nuff Said.
I will not be providing a full review on each book in the series as it would simply take entirely too much time. Suffice it to say, the antics and imagination of that girl Anne (with an E) still brings a smile to my face 25+ years after I first read the series. For me it has a quality of youthful fascination and love of life that never ages. As for the formatting for the Kindle. It was what I would consider near perfection, I say near as I am sure someone out there would find a flaw or two, but I noticed nothing. It was easy to navigate and was easy on the eyes when reading.
As a reader, you have to admit $0.99 for this collection is an amazing price, so float across the Lake of Shining Waters, meander through the White Way of Delight and head over to Amazon and check it out!
I enjoyed this series, the last couple of books were good, but I think could have been better. I really enjoyed this series, very well written, lots of detail which I enjoyed.
This is surch A good series full of life and Anne is a stong, imaginative girl that makes you strive to be a better person. When I was younger I only reading for the romance between Gilbert and Anne, and stopped at what I deemed happily ever after. But as teacher I look to Anne for inspiration on days when my students make feel like despondent.

Had high hopes that this would be a fun and practical way to practice my readings in Spanish. Sadly though, some of the translations were off, and some of the words not clear at times. Not bad overall, but expected a better job.
This collection misses two books in the Anne of Green Gables series. The two books are book numbers 4 (Anne of Windy Poplars) and 6 (Anne of Ingleside).
Such a classic series, full of laughs, tears, and entertainment! If you want a clean, cozy, comforting read, full of "wholesome island upbringing" vibes--this is the series for you.
Reading this collection of Anne of Green Gables was refreshing. I slowly savored each book allowing myself to read it only 10 minutes per day at most. It was a journey that took me longer than a year and I really enjoyed it. The books are light hearted, funny, serious, and deeply engrossing. I liked all of the books immensely with the exception of Rilla of Ingleside. The magic was missing from that one and I double-checked to make sure that the same author had written it. Yes, this collection of books is missing two from the series but for less than a dollar it was a no brainer. At my leisure I would like to read the missing two books but I don't feel like I was missing anything important to the storyline by not having them available. Reading this collection was immensely comforting similar to snuggling up in a blanket beside a fireplace. I could see myself reading this again.
Love Anne's honesty about people & situations. For her she is just speaking the truth & others are offended by it. I'm not saying she always does it at the right times or that she should say it all. I love her pure innocence in saying the truth.
I love her imagination & her wonder of life & the world's beauty. We grow up & too often lose that child like wonder of things around us.
I really enjoyed this book. I remember seeing episodes of this series on tv, and reading this book now brought back many happy memories. The stories were very interesting, and the characters were so well written that I could almost see them. Having the books all together (except the ones not in electronic form) gave me a good sense of time passing as she grows up. The related stories were just the same, and the short chapters made it easy to read when I could find the time and not worry about having to stop in the middle of a page. A good light read to cheer you up and give you faith in humanity.
I have loved this book series since I read it as a teen. I related to Annie tremendously and adored her melodramatic dreamer view of the world. I loved her passion for reading and the adventures of her life just moved my heart. I definitely recommend this series to anyone who loves good writing, period pieces, and just sweet romance!
I have all 11 on my kindle and have been going thru them since before Thanksgiving! I am now on #10. Surprisingly, I have not burned out on thses books like I did with Louisa May Alcott's series that go on forever. They are all down to earth and interesting stories.
The Anne of Green Gables books are my favorite books ever, the are hilarious, and romantic. And I love L.M. Montgomery, she is very talented. I'm kind of sad because I just finished reading "Rilla of Ingleside" the last book, so I went and bought the movies
