When you can’t move, you improve, and no one can help homeowners improve elegantly better than Candice Olson. Featuring two dozen gorgeous before-and-after room makeovers, Candice shows how to create grown-up living rooms and dining rooms that are both beautiful and practical enough for daily use. Even dark and tired basements become warm and inviting spaces for entertaining when Candice works her magic on them. The designs are inspirational but attainable, and Candice’s explanations of how each room took shape give readers lots of concrete tips and advice, regardless of budget. Each makeover includes Candice’s crystal-clear room sketches and materials boards so that homeowners can easily implement the same high-style elegance in their own spaces.
CANDICE OLSON is one of North America’s leading designers. Her television series, Divine Design with Candice Olson, has been seen by millions. Her popular show Candice Tells All airs on HGTV in the United States and on W Network in Canada.
I love the way Candice pulls together a room, even if they often seem too fussy and maybe now outdated for my liking. The title of this book is a bit misleading, it’s not “Everyday Elegance”. Maybe “Luxurious Elegance” or “For Rich People Only“ would better apply here. It was fun to see what jobs these people had “lawyer, lawyer, lawyer, airline pilot, lawyer.” The layout of the book needed a bit of work, it was hard to understand the design notes when you could no longer see a picture. Also, it just ended? Seemed like pages were missing. No acknowledgements, no conclusion, just the last segment in “basements” and then we’re done here.
I like Candice Olson - used to watch her TV program. She has a way of putting a room together that looks really great. I love reading about why she chose different products and colour schemes. In the book she covers every room in the home and the information was laid out very systematically. I hope that I can use some of the ideas she has outlined in her book. She can come to our home anytime to redecorate.
I came away with very few ideas I could use in my home and felt the book’s title should have been “High-End Elegance” to more accurately describe the transformations of the living rooms, dining rooms, family rooms, lofts and basements.
Gorgeous designs but already look a bit dated after 6 years. Some of the rooms looked overstuffed with furniture. Still, if Candice wanted to design my house, I wouldn't say no!
I liked Candice Olson Everyday Elegance. I thought the photographs and designs were beautiful and elegant even though most weren’t to my taste. There were some helpful hints on design ideas.
