Ray Arata’s new book, Wake Up, Man Up, Step Up: Transforming Your Wake-Up Call into Emotional Health and Happiness, is a step-by-step emotional guidebook for men to be better husbands, better fathers, better citizens and better friends.

And it couldn’t have come at a better time.

American manhood is in crisis, judging by a surge of manifestos such as The Disposable Male, Save the Males, Man Fail, The Decline of Men: How the American Male Is Getting Axed, Giving Up, and Flipping Off His Future, moreover Hanna Rosin’s bestseller -- End of Men and the Rise of Women. On a variety of fronts it seems that fatherhood, manhood, and even boyhood are under strain or attack, beset by changes in the economy and society.

Wake Up, Man Up, Step Up is Arata’s inspirational guide and antidote to the confusion and disconnection that many men experience today as they struggle to understand and redefine their relationships and responsibilities at home, in the workplace, and in society. Through stories, tools, and exercises, Arata provides a seven-step “roadmap” and invitation for men to embark on a journey leading to self-discovery and empowerment.

“For most of us, the journey begins with a wake-up call—whether that’s a rocky relationship, parenting challenges, loneliness, or a mid-life crisis,” says Arata.

“We can use that crisis as a call to action. Being willing to look at ourselves, build networks of support, including friendships with other men, and learn from others are a few of the steps that can help men become a better partner/husband, father, leader, friend, and positive role model for the next generation of men.“

Ray Arata is the founder of YourMensJourney.com with online programs and products designed to support men in their transformation to new, happier lives. He is also an executive leadership coach, diversity consultant and speaker, and works with companies and organizations to implement cultural and operational change that aligns with their goals and mission.
