What's Wrong With My Family? And How to Live Your Best Life Anyway

Rate this book
Family. We all have one. And with all the gifts they bring, along comes at least a few lumps of coal-from some friction to downright anger and dysfunction. What's a healthy family anyway? What's a toxic one? Where is the middle ground? And how do you navigate family relationships to negotiate conflict resolution? WHAT'S WRONG WITH MY FAMILY explores the problems stemming from even the healthiest to the most destructive ones. Most important, it teaches what issues arise within you from your own family of origin, and how to heal from the wounds. A book of hope, it shows that no matter where you come from, you can live your best life anyway.

If you're looking for an easier way to make sense out of why your family is the way it is, THIS BOOK DOES JUST THAT! I had read one of the authors' previous books and this one was no let-down. I just love how they use real examples that really do sound like the craziness in my family. This book was even better than their other one, but more importantly than even that, is the fact that the advice they give really makes sense and it's stuff you really can use! I know I'M happier now! (Their other book is 5 Keys for understanding Men)

The life we are given, or at least first provided with, is one which is dominated by those who care for us. Some of us come from homes that are filled with love and support and caring and nurturing. Some of us come from homes where we were neglected and left to care for ourselves and our siblings. In this book, the authors use humor in depicting the wonderful family life of Fred and Wilma (and others). By knowing different ways of parenting, we are then able to bring into the world a child that is strong and able to carry him/herself out into the world and succeed. That's the goal in raising children, isn't it? Love, nurture, support and teach?

This book is FILLED with tools to help you heal. From the moment you came into the world, you were either treated well or not. Yes, there are in-betweens. The thing is, if you were not treated well and want to enjoy your life in spite of this, this book is what can help you. Learn how you can become a better person. Learn how you can move on and be who you want to be. Learn what you want in life. It's much like a toolbox. Read the book. Put it on your shelf and dig it out when you need a tool. Put it back on the shelf for the next time you need it.

We all come from a family. How did you come out?

Pick up a copy today! I HIGHLY recommend it!

Now I understand the church marquee by my home inviting people to their service entitled "The Dysfunctional Family." Wish I had attended. The author stirred up some good points to consider within family structures. Dysfunction occurs in all families. It's how we function with the family that makes the dysfunction workable. This book allowed me to look inside my own family and even realize we are not so bad after all. I can use this book to help make things even better. More important, I can use my mind to see beyond the dysfunction to the possibilities.

You will find yourself and your family somewhere in this book. I laughed, and cried, and figured out a lot of things I had always wondered about. A 'must read' if you have ever wondered about your family and it's workings.

Received the book for free through Goodreads First Reads.
This did address some specific issues I am dealing with in my own family and how they affect me today. I found myself highlighting throughout the book things that applied to me and some of the quotes. I loved how each section ended with “WHAT CAN YOU USE?” that gave a guide to how to overcome these problems, but I felt that in some of the instances it wasn’t as clear or direct. I guess even though there are some guidelines set I’m asking myself for steps or a breakdown.
