“Daddy says our people built the pyramids. Our people were kings and queens . . . poets and mathematicians . . . artists who built beautiful statues . . . “
Our People celebrates the legacy of African Americans through an intimate conversation between a contemporary father and daughter. As they explore together the history of their people, from Ancient Africa through slavery to present day, they share a special bond—with each other, with the past, and with the heroic individuals who are part of our heritage. An inspiring book about both history and possibility, Our People will inspire young readers to imagine their past and envision the realities of their futures.

Used this a PreK class visit. The teachers might have appreciated it more, but the class were good listeners.
This has become my go to book when a teacher requests a black history story time. Used again for a kindergarten class visit. 2/7/14
Advertised a Black History Preschool Story Time, but still didn't get any classes to join. Monday does not seem to be a good day for them.
Used for my black history PJ Story Time. Not a good fit with 3 rambunctious boys... 2/24/14
The book was written it a great way to show the heritage of African Americans. I liked the little girl and how she was proud of her history. I have never sat and thought about how parents tell their children the past of their people.
