Find out how Spencer’s love of science and machines, along with his strong work ethic, helped him achieve a patent for the invention of the microwave oven.
Sara Latta is the author of seventeen books for children and young adults on topics that include dark matter, the secret life of microbes, DNA, bones, and forensic science. She also has a masters degree in immunology. She does have a bit of a phobia about heights, as she discovered when faced with having to climb down from a pyramid in Teotihuacan, Mexico.
This book accomplishes one of my parenting goals...infusing my children’s education with science, technology, engineering and mathematics information. I’ve been looking for historical figures beyond the traditionally mentioned individuals such as Edison, Bell, etc... I’d never heard of Percy Spencer until I saw this book at the library. I couldn’t have told you who invented the microwave. This book is well written and actually part of a series called Inventors at Work! I am motivated to seek out the other titles as well.
A biography written in a fun way for intermediate readers and above. The story is interesting and is accompanied with lots of photos and bonus information. Check out others in this great new series.
