Ashley Phillips always believed she would live the perfect love story.
And why wouldn’t she? After all, Ashley’s been witness to her own parents’ perfect marriage, having been sweethearts ever since they met in high school. With their fairytale example to guide her, Ashley was sure that she would eventually find her very own prince charming. When she falls in love with one of her best friends, Chris, Ashley is sure she’s on her way to happy-ever-after.
When Chris proposes, Ashley is more confident than ever that her love story will be a perfect one. With the help of her mother and her best friends, Emily and Ryan, Ashley is determined to plan the dream wedding that she has always imagined.
But a devastating revelation will soon prove that the Phillips family is not as perfect as Ashley has always thought. When the cracks begin to show, Ashley will be faced with betrayal so strong it will cause her to doubt everything she’s always believed about marriage, love, and family. Now Ashley must decide if it’s time to give up the dream—or if true love is really worth fighting for after all.
I can honestly say that I love anything that Rachel Schurig writes (a rarity for me). Out of the seven books she has out there was only one of them that I was less than totally in love but it was still a great read.
In her newest offering, Schurig wraps up her Love Story trilogy. This novel now focuses on Ashley who we have gotten to know through the two previous novels. Ashely is enamored with romance and is in love with her longtime boyfriend and best friend Chris.
Ashley thinks about marrying Chris all of the time and wants to have a happily ever after just like her parents.
However, after Chris proposes (in one of the most perfect proposal scenes I have ever had the luck to read) instead of Ashley flying high she has to deal with an unexpected unraveling in her family life. Ashley is forced to face up to the truth that what she always thought of as the perfect love story may only have been in her head.
I loved the way that Schurig writes Ashley and the pain she is going through in her life and how it changes her from being happy go lucky to questioning everything she thought she wanted.
One very minor complaint which was not enough for me to lower this a star had to do with introducing a beloved character from her other novels. We do get a glimpse at one of the characters from the "Three Girls" story and though I was happy to see her again I felt a bit annoyed since we didn't get to hear anything about her private life. I really wished that could have happened but having a glimpse is better than nothing.
Definitely recommend reading and suggest you start with the first novel in the series if you have not done so before reading this.
"I just think it would be hard....to be so angry at her and so scared of disappointing her at the same time." This sums up the way Ashley feels about her mother. From when she was a little girl, she has lived to please her. Even up to now, in the midst of the breakup of her parents, causing her to resent her mother, Ashley still couldn't get to stand up against her mother's controlling nature.
This is a nice ending to the love story series. While the first two talked about finding true love, this one deals with what really goes on in a seemingly stable and ideal relationship. It affirms that nothing is certain, and if you want one thing to work, you have to work on it. Nothing is free, even love.
I needed something lighthearted to read and this did not disappoint, I’m just gutted I didn’t realise it’s the third part of a trilogy. It was fine as a stand-alone but I would have liked to read the back stories first.
This was another one of Rachel's excellent books. It had me from the beginning. I love the way she writes her characters, they are people you can relate to and your friends might be just like this characters, which make it easy to put yourself in the characters shoes and understand where they are coming from and what they are going through. When I read this book I did not realize that it was part of a series. And if I did I had forgotten but it did not matter at all. I was still able to follow the book and not be lost. It could have been a stand alone. This book is one that I think most people who are engaged or married can relate too. Even if you are not married or engaged you can still understand how Ashley is feeling about Chris. Chris is a very supportive boyfriend and Rachel does an excellent job with him. Chris is one of the characters that everyone knows someone like him in real life. He is the laid back, go with the flow, not very romantic at all type of guy. Chris & Ashley are a very good match for each other. They round each other out and they help with each other's weaknesses. Ashley is the prefect main character. If you are the romantic kind of girl you can identify with her. She is very funny and I loved her friends. Her circle of friends are awesome and her work friends are just as awesome. Ashley's family is you could relate to as well. Her mom is a very interesting character. Her sisters are not in the book a lot but when they are they help you understand the family dynamic even more.
This is a must read book. There are some language but not bad at all.
The third in the Love Story series, I have become a big fan of Rachel Schurig! This story focuses around Ashley and Chris, who have just become recently engaged. But, just two days after their engagement, Ashley finds out that her mother has left her father and everything she felt secure in has now changed. The only issue I had with this story was Ashley's reluctance to just be honest with Chris or to just tell SOMEONE about all of the pain she was suffering. I don't like that type of girl and had a hard time relating to her because of that. Otherwise, a nice story and an easy read!
Third instalment of Love Story. Back to the city, but still has a good feel to it. Again better than the first book and equal, if not better than the second. Jen from Three girls 1-5 features a bit in this one. Not a lot but it's a nice touch that makes the story more real. I can't help thinking that this book and the previous two are telling us a moral story rather than telling a story of someone's adventures.
) I just closed the pages, ok the screen of An Almost Perfect Love Story and with it, the end of the series. This time it was Ashley's turn at love and fans of the first two books eagerly awaited Chris and Ashley's union. Things started off rocky in paradise when Ashley's mother moves out and the dissolve of her parents' marriage shattered Ashley's faith in love and fairy-tales. Will her faith be renewed or with this Cinderella be left with a pumpkin instead of her prince?
Cute book that wrapped up the series nicely. I really enjoyed how each book focused on the story of a new character. I would recommend this series of books to those that like sweet stories. Nothing deep, but fun and worth the read.
This was the best one of these three books. The characters still weren't as endearing as in her Three Girls series, but I'm still glad I didn't miss these.
Really enjoyed this last in the Love Story series - it brought all the books together. Rachel Schurig is definitely in my top 10 chick lit writers - her books are easy going but get you hooked.
I like the twist of starting with a happy couple, and then going from there. They are a good couple and we get plenty of evidence about how much they love each other.
This third installment was different from the first two book but only because the couple had been together for years. I do feel like the main couple did fall in love all over again in this book. Another great Rachel Schurig book.
