After nearly becoming a sacrifice, Elizabeth vows never to be the victim again. She needs power to protect herself and the ones she loves from the dark forces that pine for her abilities but this power, dark and consuming in its nature, always comes at a price. Soon Elizabeth finds herself a slave to the energy that courses through her body. Out of control and angry she must fight for control or be consumed by the power that will only crush her.
Raised as a 'Military-Brat' I've had the pleasure of living in many different locals--some amazing and eye-opening, others boring and dull. Being raised in the military lifestyle gifted me the opportunity to meet people and see things I never would have otherwise.I refuse to grow up and become a boring adult. It will never happen. When not writing my stories you can probably find me advocating for Human Rights in many different venues. Some of those topics include the right to your own body, the right to love whomever you choose and the right to speak openly and freely without fear of persecution (whether that be personal or from the government). But most of all, I'm just me and it's always hard to write a bio on myself. If there's anything you'd like to know feel free to ask!
Okay, it's official - I am obsessed with another book series. Megan White has written a compulsively readable book, I couldn't have stopped reading if I had tried, which I didn't. I started reading and didn't stop til' I hit the last page. And I did it all with a huge giddy grin on my face. I laughed, I freaked, I fell into bookish crushville with Sean, I rooted for Liz, I loved this book. So freaking good.
There will some slight spoilers concerning the first book, Parrish Secrets - so if you haven't read book 1 yet, than maybe don't read my review. For those of you that have read book 1, my review won't be spoiler city.
After the events of the previous book, Parrish Secrets, Liz is getting a better idea of who she is, she's also pretty freaking pissed off and justifiably so. When Dylan betrayed her, he crossed the line and when that line is crossed love can often become hate. With no other family after the death of his Grandma, he moves in with Liz and her Grandma against Liz's wishes.
Dealing with huge amounts of anger, and trying to reconcile what she has found out about her mom's death, she is struggling with everything. Which is where Mr. Beardon, who we find out is Sean, the yummy and deliciously intriguing Math teacher, is now going to be following her around, teaching her and protecting her. To say that she doesn't take this news well, is an understatement - add in the fact that she and Sean seem to have a connection and it gets all kinds of intersting.
When Liz takes an astral projection trip she runs across a mysterious entity that offers power, help in protecting herself and the people that she loves. As the story propells along at an unputdownable pace, the Voodoo comes out to play, relationships change, and secrets come to light.
Liz is still her independent and funny self. This time though, she's also filled with alot of anger, her first love turned out to be a douche canoe, and the secrets that she is learning about her mom are crippling her in a way. She did irritate me a bit this time too, but only because she makes some very crappy decisions. Even with my slight irritation, I still think this girl is awesomesauce and I kinda freaking adore her, even when she makes me want to reach into my iPad and smack some sense into her.
When Parrish Secrets ended I was crossing my fingers and very hopeful that Liz would get a different love interest or at least someone that could compete against Dylan. Well, my wish was granted in the form of Math teacher, Voodoo protector, not a boy but a man (but not too old), yummy, mysterious, strong - Sean. Holy crap on freaking crackers, but I loved, I repeat loved, Sean. Now here we go with someone who is up to the task of being involved with the awesomeness that is Liz. I can't wait to see where it goes in the next book.
This book was absolutely fan-freakin-tastic and I loved everything about it. Megan White has written another fresh and interesting book with elements of Voodoo that were beyond intriguing and really well done. The characters are moving along nicely and I really loved the progression of the relationships. I can't recommend this series enough, give it a go and 1-click this awesome series.
I received a copy of this story from the Author in exchange for an honest review.
OHMYGOSH! I devoured this book! So many emotions played through my mind as I was reading it. I was angry at Elizabeth, and couldn't understand the choices she was making. But then came to realize, with a little help, how lost this poor girl is. She has never known real love or loyalty in all her life and was left alone to harden her shell so no one else could hurt her. She was so angry and hurt by what was done to her and she wanted revenge. Revenge that almost cost her everything! A creepy page turner that will have you holding your breath and not able to put this book down! Gotta go, book 3 is calling to me!
What can I say other than what has already been said? I wanted to come on here and say something witty and amazing but I see now that I have already been beat to the punch.
Thoroughly enjoyed this new series. Original plot, creative spin on a religion that has been drug through the mud by most of the entertainment world. Loved that we see the true side, also love how the author explained the religion without the wording coming off like a textbook.
Thrilling, exciting, a real page turner. Good job, Ms. White
She did it again! Another home run for this new author. Parish Secret's Obsession is just that for me. It was an Obsession! Chilling depection of what any addiction can do to someone. How far would you go to get something that you wanted? Elizabeth would go as far as she can. Not only am I excited to see what will happen next to Elizabeth Parker but I am anxious to see what this crazy world has in store for this young new author.
This is a great follow up from Parish Secrets. We continue to follow Liz on her journey where she is still discovering herself. A love triangle is thrown in the middle and some people's true colors are shown. It's crazy the price you will pay to save your loved ones. The characters are well developed and the author keeps you interested. This is a MUST READ! I read the book in two days! Cannot wait for the next! Would absolutely recommend!
What an amazing addition to the first! I fell in love with Elizabeth even more (and I really did not think that was possible). Thrilling, chilling, creepy. Love love love. Will continue to rec' this series to anyone I know that enjoys a little paranormal thrill in their lives.
The book was great, and I would have given it 4 stars if it wasn't for the bad grammar and all the misspellings . The book definitely needed some editing.
