Despite evidence that points to murder suspect Josie Reynold's guilt, world-weary detective Jack Stryker falls in love with her and returns to the streets to find the real killer, before he realizes that he has fallen into a trap. Original.
3.5 stars Going in I knew this was part of a miniseries but it did well enough as a standalone. I would be interested in reading more books in this series of course. The h/H are workaholics, he as a cop and she the town treasurer helping the farmers find flood relief. The overarching mystery is carried over from previous books I presume, the death of the former mayor. The hero thinks heroine is guilty since she is reticent about her past and he has been doubting women since his former wife turned out to be unfaithful. She is of course framed and carted off to jail. I felt the heroine was a little too quick to forgive the hero for his doubts but it was a minor quibble. I liked the heroine, she had a vivacious personality and was feisty. The romance also worked for me. I guess I will have to track down the other books in this series to find out who killed the Mayor and more.

There's a cop, a city treasurer, murder, and a hit woman. it was also sexy!! Considering I'm a fan of Lisa Gardner's mystery/suspense books, it shouldn't surprise me that I liked this a lot.
