Lucy Maud Montgomery was a Canadian author, best known for a series of novels beginning with Anne of Green Gables, published in 1908.
Montgomery was born at Clifton, Prince Edward Island, Nov. 30, 1874. She came to live at Leaskdale, north of Uxbridge Ontario, after her wedding with Rev. Ewen Macdonald on July 11, 1911. She had three children and wrote close to a dozen books while she was living in the Leaskdale Manse before the family moved to Norval, Ontario in 1926. She died in Toronto April 24, 1942 and was buried at Cavendish, Prince Edward Island.
Phewwww! After reading the complete works of L.M. Montgomery for most of this year, I have finally finished! This collection includes all eight novels in the Anne of Green Gables series, the Emily series, the Story Girl series, poems, numerous short stories, an autobiography, reviews of Anne of Green Gables, and various other writings. I was very interested in reading this because Anne of Green Gables is my favorite book of all time, and my husband and I visited Prince Edward Island this past summer and spent time at Green Gables. I found L.M. Montgomery to be a talented, if somewhat wordy author. Besides the Anne series, I very much enjoyed the short stories because of Montgomery's talent of describing her characters so graphically in the short space allotted to her in a short story. This collection was pretty well done, with a minimum of the typographical errors so prevalent in works in the public domain. It was well worth the effort to make it through the entire canon of her works.
My L.M Montgomery , she suffered so much and yet created a world with words of whimsical nature, the flora and fauna were her best friends in a world in which she could not and won’t allow herself to be authentically free
So Fun to read many of these books again. It begins with the story of the little orphan Anne Shirley on Prince Edward Island, Canada and the series ends with her daughter Rilla's growing up experiences during the 1st world war. Not sure all the historical facts in" Rilla of Ingleside" about the 1st World War are correct but fascinating to read what life at home for parents and family of Soldiers was like during this era. Have not completed reading her collection of short stories, yet look forward to reading them. Many of these books in the series I had never read so great to have them all together in one collections. One cannot love some of these Classic stories!
