In its long history our House of Commons has never had to reach so formidable and permanent – for it is forever – a decision as whether or not to enter the European Economic Community. The name is misleading, for this is not an economic, free trade or industrial grouping but a union that will cover almost everything from finance to defence and will alter and change the lives of all our people as well as those of many in our Commonwealth.
Is it wise? Will it help us or the world? Is it a step forward or backwards? Will it work or prove a disaster? All great decisions require debate and consideration and this book sets out the views of one eminent Britisher who, in the past, has not always been proved wrong.
