I am an author with a huge love of horror.

Of course, other genres float my boat as well; Sci-Fi, Thrillers, pretty much any Dark Fiction, but Horror is what I call home.

My first novel, Horror in the Woods, was released on in May 2017, and the second, The Demonic, on the the following July hitting multiple best seller lists. Since then, I have authored a number of horror novels that have terrified fans for the past few years.

3.5 stars rounded up!

This demonic series began with Perron Manor, an excellent and truly frightening story in its own right. However, this latest instalment did not live up to the hype. With the complete destruction of humanity in the offing, would the Church really delegate its defensive strategy to a mismatched and secretive "Council" and would they, in turn, delegate the actual fighting to a small group of ill equipped individuals? This group does have some success against the "Darkness" but, can they really win against a supernatural enemy to whom even the Devil himself is subservient? To me, the story is getting out of hand and more mind blowing with each episode. Still, it is a good read.

Spooky Shivers!

Small backstory:

David Ritter along with Reverend Rachel Quinn is on a mission to try and rescue Sarah Pearson as she is being held captive down in a dungeon type basement in an abandoned hotel.

Sarah is also being held by the demonic presence that had invaded Perron Manor as it is still very much around and it wants her soul. Though there is a bright light that appears periodically to help her through the evil and Sarah latches onto that bright beacon of light as she believes it to be her sister, Chloe trying to help her.

David and Rachel will need to battle all evil forces which they do have to endure as they make their way toward rescuing Sarah! It will be a battle of wills and hellfire but they are relentlessly not going to let anything stop them from finding Sarah and rescuing her from evil!

That is about all I can give on a small backstory so if you want to know more then start your reading journey of this haunted series!

Thoughts:

This series of books just keeps getting better and better as the evil stalks the pages of this story it also stalks the reader mind as well as I would find myself just wrapped up within it clutches as I would spend sleep time reading this story as it kept me awake with insomnia fuel!

The spookiness of the story just creeped under my skin and I had a hard time putting this book down as the fast pace of things happening to the characters in this book was constant. The story moves along quickly and kept me glued to my kindle as I just could not even think about sleep as the story went into a high gear!

Looking forward to the rest of the books in the series to see how everything unfolds within the story. Giving this book five "Creepy Chiller Thriller" stars!

The long awaited sequel is here!

I’m a big fan of Lee’s work, especially the ‘Haunted’ series, so I was overjoyed when I’d seen that his latest instalment was released. Though not as creepy as it’s predecessors, the gang is all back together and Lee’s writing doesn’t fail to disappoint as usual.

SPOILERS BELOW:

I was completely hooked, and devoured this book. My only wish is that it was a little more creepy, that we didn’t have Chloe to rely on every time things got a little tough - it would have been fantastic to have her appear at the end, but she appeared every time the team were in a dire situation, become a sort of deus ex machina figure. By the third time she showed up I was a little underwhelmed and felt that the stakes weren’t really that high as Chloe would always be there to save the day. Although it does seem that this was a deliberate choice judging by the cliffhanger at the end.

I wish the book was longer, with greater detail given about the hotel and the grounds, but this is probably the first book I’ve read of Lee’s that does seem like it was only serving to set up the next book, which was a little disappointing as I was super excited for this release. I also wish the book was longer and had more of a storyline than just “close another doorway and stop Sarah from ending the world”.

Despite all of this, I’ll continue to support Lee and read his work as I love his characters, writing and the overall story playing out in the ‘Haunted’ series.

Just please give us more terror and creepiness as opposed to gore please!

7/10, would recommend, but make sure you start at the very beginning of the ‘Haunted’ series as this isn’t really a standalone book, you’ll need the backstory and context from Lee’s previous work to understand a lot of the references, circumstances, characters, motivations and overall storyline.

Malevolence and Terror

David Ritter is on a mission to find and rescue Sarah before all hell breaks loose. Malevolent spirits hamper their efforts. Is it a lost endeavour? This page turner was chilling to the extreme. I like the cast of characters and the eerie portrayal of the hotel and its long dead inhabitants. Looking forward to more of this series.

This series has come a long way. I love what Mountford has done with it. After the first two books, I really thought we'd just see "The Team" going from one haunted place to another and clearing the ghosts. I was very wrong there. Things got so out of hand, so quickly that the series has become an insane roller-coaster ride. I've read books 3-7 in about a week. I, unfortunately, now have to wait for Book 8 to be published.

Although I love the ride of these books, I have to say that the series has succumbed to two of the most basic and difficult-to-overcome problems when writing horror. First, at some point, you have to see the face of the monster. Mountford did a decent job with that. The demons are scary, but I ultimately feel like he's describing Venom (and specifically from the Tom Hardy version of the series). After you see them a few times, they become less scary.

The second problem is that when you give your monsters character, they are immediately less scary. You are putting a human face on them and ultimately, there is always something there we can relate to. Seriously, when your demons start using cell phones (as one does here), they just aren't as scary.

So, I found this seventh book of the series far less scary than some of the previous outings. But ultimately, that's ok. After tearing through all these books, the horror was getting a bit old. I became much harder to scare.

Fortunately: the roller-coaster. The series morphed into a wild, nutty end-of-the-world battle. It's kooky. It's weird. And I'm loving it.

Minor spoiler and minor quibble here:
To finish the rite, they need a mirror. They finally realize they have phones. Instead of them just using the reflection in the glass, I would have been happier if they'd actually used the camera as a mirror feature. It would have been a fun little "technology saves them" moment.

And back at it with the good stuff! The last book in the series was a little too tame for my taste, but Hotel offered what drew me to these books in the first place...abandoned buildings, spooks, scares and a nice touch of gore.

Sad to think I'm almost at the end of the journey...on to the next book!

I started reading the series right before the start of my July 4th vacation and I got HOOKED. Now that I am on the last book (so far), I can saw this is one of the darkest and creepiest books Ive read. I truly enjoyed the journey Ive been on and I look forward to his next installments.

I tend to stay away from demons, angels, god, etc. and prefer the more “traditional” haunted house stories. But I’m liking the direction more and more.

This is a fascinating horror series!

Each book in this series had me on the edge of my seat and glued to every page. The story line was so intense and so graphic in detail. I can't wait for the next book to come out to see what Sarah and David and Ralph will have to endure. I wonder if Rachel will continue with them!!! I'm really enjoying this horror series.

Good, But Still Not As Good As The First

I really like this series although I wish it would stick more to ghosts and less to demons but that would change the whole plot. I expected this novel to be the last installment of this series so I was a little surprised it ended on a cliffhanger!

As usual, I find Lee Mountford’s writing exceptional, but while I usually give his Haunted volumes 5 stars, this one was just a 4 for me. My biggest issue was with many head-smacking decisions by the main characters. You’d think with all they’d experienced in previous novels, they wouldn’t be letting down their guards as much as they did. Don’t get me wrong — it’s still an insanely compelling book, but it left me a smidge disappointed. Thank goodness book 8 should be here before we know it.

Haunted Hotel is the 7th book in The Haunted Series, and this author didn't disappoint he always delivers a great story. This book has haunting spirits and demons and is so atmospheric and god damn tense. Blood curdling scenes, oh, and everything you want as an avid horror reader loves!!!

This book picks up where David Ritter and Rachel Quinn are on a mission to find their friend Sarah Pearson from the forces of evil. One particular demon is set on turning Sarah to the darkside of evil, and if it succeeds, it could be the end of days as we know. The setting is a haunted hotel, not that you would catch me in one arghhhh!!!

I absolutely blasted through this book, I cringed and felt like I was there with the characters. There is one of the scenes that has clung to me long after finishing the book. It made me feel so claustrophobic it was very unsettling and unnerving!

Brilliant read. I'm looking forward to the next instalment in the series!!!

Mountford is back once again with yet another fantastic addition to his already great “Haunted” series.

Just as we’ve seen in 6 previous books, Mountford continues to excel at the horror genre, taking every haunted house trope, turning them on their head, and making his own version of this familiar sub genre of horror feel totally original.

Hotel also continues Mountford’s tradition of keeping horror more along the normal lines. And by that I mean he relies on actual spooks and creepiness than guts and gore. Hotel relies more on ratcheting up the tension for upcoming books so it probably isn’t as spooky as previous installments, yet it is still a great example that this version of horror can be done and done well…even if there are one too many moments of dues Ex machina

I was excited when this book came out, but I'm really disappointed with the entire tale.
1. It feels like Sarah hasn't had ANY character development since Perron Manor. She's still impulsive and seems to have a weird savior complex even though she doesn't actually save anyone since she always needs to be saved. For instance, Chloe risks her soul countless times to save her sister. Sarah sees how badly her sister is suffering, yet instead of taking advantage of the time that Chloe has gained for her and running away from the demon, she wastes time asking Chloe questions that are irrelevant to that situation. Another irritating example, David has a whole eye taken out when he tries to save Sarah, but this woman is so self-centered and thinks he should withstand the horrible pain he's going through so that she can piss in a toilet that doesn't even have working plumbing. OMG!
2. How are the church and that council of old men so blind? How????? Even bringing in the pope at the end didn't make this better.
3. I was looking forward to Ann giving me the satisfaction of a character seeing the error in her previous actions and learning from it. Arg, she was only mentioned in passing.
4. How is Ralph still sticking with this whole mess? He seems like such a cuddly bear. He'll probably end up like Father Janosch.

Lastly, Chloe is now the undisputed MVP. I'll continue with the series only for her.

Predictable and, dare I say, even a little dull?

This book became very predictable. At times, even the text was repeated verbatim from previous pages and even previous books. The suspense I have grown to look forward to, has been replaced with graphic depictions of torture. I found myself skimming, and even skipping pages. No twist or turns in this book; just the same demon choking the same people repeatedly. Hoping the next one has a substantial storyline to entice me to read the remaining books in the series.

Another door connecting the living world to Hell is found. Another night of horrors and yet another situation in which Sarah is found and held by the demonic presence trying to break her and possess the child of darkness, feeding off her fears and painful existence full of losses of the ones she knew and loved, one way or another.
The guest list of the the dead is never ending, starting especially with the ones who try to fight against it.
Eerie and bone-chilling scenes, the details describing the wide range of the spirits and demons and the powers of Hell is something to not to mess with except for the bravest and the ones… who survive another night.

I found that there were some plot twists that were some what predictable and some questions left unanswered especially for me in this book that there were some little plot holes but nothing major. I do like how it takes us to different locations in the book and the different POV’s breaking it up as you read through but I feel like a lot of it is what just happened at other locations but on a repeat. However I did enjoy this book as much as I did the others and am speed reading through it. Just curious what’s going to happen in the big finale.

Claustrophobic Times 10

As usual, things that can go wrong do go wrong, and just when you think it's over, some glimmer of hope bleeds through.

Certain places are doorways to He'll and if all doors are opened and the chosen, or unchosen? one has to submit to the darkness for He'll to invade earth.

However, the one that is supposed to submit is very stubborn.

Enjoying the series!

Don’t get me wrong, I am enjoying the series but this one was harder to get through. Sarah really irked me. Seems like she’s getting dumber as time goes on. If someone tells you to RUN! then run girl!!! Don’t stand there and try to have a full conversation. Hoping the next one goes in a bit of a different direction.

My least favorite of the series so far. I’m still grieving the loss of Father Janosch and this felt so rushed with less story to it and they had to rely SO MUCH on Chloe.. I also feel the characters need to learn from their past mistakes because it gets frustrating. Either way, I love this series. It wasn’t a bad book and I can’t wait to read the rest.

Excellent reading

They kidnapped Sarah and took her to an abandoned haunted hotel. Her Priest friend is brutally killed in front of her! The darkness continues to try and turn her but she's fighting that as hard as she can. Will David, Rachel and Ralph get to her in time to stop the demon from turning her? Will the close the Devils Door? Who will survive?
