Life is good. Cami is away at her dream college with her dream man by her side. She thinks if she can just get through with meeting Hunter’s family that everything will be perfect. Little does she know that life’s about to turn upside down again when Hunter is called to infiltrate a gang whose specialty is chopping and racing cars. His contact happens to be a beautiful curvy girl who is the gang leader’s sister and he has to pose as her boyfriend. Communication with Cami is basically forbidden to help keep his cover.
Hunter, however, can’t stand being away from the girl he really loves, and he sneaks away one night to meet her across town. He doesn’t know the gang leader, Ripper, has suspicions about him already and he’s following him to see where he goes. He surprises Hunter and Cami, and Hunter quickly introduces her as his foster sister who is having some car trouble. He thinks all is well until he discovers he has one serious problem. Ripper likes Cami and decides to pursue her, drawing her into the same dangerous world he’s supposed to bring down.
Can he keep his cover without having Cami get caught in the crossfire? Will the two of them survive having to watch each other fake it in the arms of another? Or will their hot stolen kisses destroy everything?
Lacey Weatherford was born in Ft. Meade Maryland while her father was serving in the military. She has been a life long resident of Arizona, spending most of her time growing up in the small rural town of Clay Springs.
It was while she was attending the small country school in Clay Springs, that she read her first "big" book at the age of eight. It was a Nancy Drew novel and Lacey was instantly hooked. She read every book that she could find in the series and decided that she wanted to write stories too.
Lacey spent a lot of time at the library from that time forward, even volunteering in her later teen years and early twenties. She would don a crazy clown outfit for the Friends of the Library fundraisers in an effort to help get the new town library built.
When she and her husband moved away from the area, Lacey took the opportunity to take some creative writing classes at the local college to help further along her interests. Several years later, they were blessed with the opportunity to move back to Clay Springs with their family. The town had finally succeeded in building their library and Lacey had the opportunity to be President of the Friends of the Library for a very short time, before relocating.
Lacey and her family still live in the White Mountains of Arizona, where she continues to write young adult novels that have a fantasy/fairytale or paranormal bent to them, as well as being sure to include a great romantic storyline!
Smitten is the sequel to Crush. If you haven’t read Crush, there will be some storyline spoilers for book 1 in this review.
Cami is starting her first year of college as a music major. She is still coping with the loss of Clay, but she has Hunter. She is over eighteen now, and there is noting stopping them from being together. Cami is meeting Hunter’s family for the first time and everything is amazing, until he’s called for another job. Hunter is an undercover cop. That is how he met Cami in the first place- he was the only guy on the force young enough to go undercover as a highschool student. Now he is involved in a dangerous investigation with a guy named Ripper who steals cars and is wanted for murder. Hunter has to pose as Ripper’s sister’s newest boyfriend. He can’t have any contact with anyone, especially Cami.
Weeks go by and Hunter can’t take it anymore. He has to see Cami. But then, Ripper see’s them together and Hunter has to think quick. Cami is his ‘foster sister’ and now Ripper wants Cami. Cami has to go along, what else can she do? They move as fast as they can to get this case closed, but Hunter is pretending to be with Roberta, Ripper wants to be with Cami... it’s kind of a hot mess. It gets harder and harder to keep Hunters cover when he is constantly seeing Ripper try to get with Cami...
A fun, quick read. Some action, suspense, and of course some swoony Hunter. I loved Hunter in Crush, and he was just as wonderful in Smitten. He is so devoted, protective and sweet on Cami. They are an awesome couple. The ending felt a little rushed to me, but I loved how it ended. I just adore their friend Russ and I’m glad to know there will be a book 3 in this series about Russ ;D
I like Cami and Dylan/Hunter, but this is not the story for them. The plot and series of events were majorly down played to the point where if not for the lies and continue reminders, I'd think it's a completely different story.
I think this undercover story worked for 'Crush', but it wasn't as appealing for 'Smitten'. I found the premise to be exciting, but the delivery was too teen drama. It was Snow White acting as the evil witch ... not very convincing at all!!!
We were barely engaged with the surrounding characters for an undercover case and I kept waiting for the adrenaline to kick in, and while it did at parts, it burned out real fast!!! It's like the author was afraid to get too in depth into the criminal network. You can have a high school/college romance about crime, but it's gotta be very believing, well written or be written by April Brookshire :)
I liked that Russ was present and that we got to back track and see the changes after the death of Clay and the investigation from book 1, but all of it wasn't necessary and the conversations were bordering on unbelievable and cheesy!!
Ripper seemed like a good guy, minus the stealing and stuff, but the childish side in the author left Cami shaking in her boots for a guy that has yet to show me a mean bone. If you ask me, he seems like a cool guy who actually cared about her. But due to the undying love she is suppose to feel for Dylan, he was always the devil. (Even a smidgen of interest would be more believable)
I never really saw Hunter (excuse me while I interchange name throughout), as a police officer in this one, much less an undercover one. It was easier to believe from book 1 because of the time of the reveal and the story line that focused more on the relationship they had as oppose to the case. In this one, it was all cop work, and it was all bad!
I understand Cami being a virgin but c'mon now ... the one and only sex scene could be better written, without getting all X rated. I had to re-read that part to make sure that the act was actually done. After all this time, we could have gotten more.
Also, everyone seemed to be pretty chill with a civilian planted in the middle of an undercover police investigation and that just once again take me back to the unrealistic level of this novel. I swear everyone from the parents to the best friend should be cited for court because this case was too widely discussed. It was like a gossip tree. I'm surprised Ripper didn't find out on his own or sooner. And no mob is that carefree to the point where they gonna forget about you and let you run away and live your HEA.
Still, I didn't mind reading at all. It might not get your juices going and keep it that way, but it wasn't an awfully written book either. It was well written with little to no grammatical errors. However, the premise and execution was weak. It was too bunny and sunshine for the thrill ride promised. But I did like the Vegas chapel scene ... that was different :)
To top it all off also, the ending was just as unbelievable (not in the exciting way) and very abrupt based on the execution and the crime. Left a lot to be desired and a few questions. I see there will be a book 3, so I don't know if that will be about revenge or just a book for Russ ... we'll see.
o looks like she did it again! took a perfectly amazing book and gave it a sequel!! Crush had closure it dint need a sequel 'Finding Chase' RUINED ' Chasing Nikki' for me RUINED! i hope the pattern does not repeat itself with 'Smitten'
having said that, the blurb looks interesting!! mighty interesting! so against my better judgement, im looking forward to the release date :p
Yes I am a total perv, I really wanted to see a few more steamy scenes between Hunter and Cami now that she is of age and in college. Oh well, this is still a great follow up book to Crush. Do not read this review if you haven't read Crush-contains spoilers.
Our poor Hunter just can't catch a break, after all of the high school drama he and Cami went through, they were just settling into a nice boring meeting the parents routine. Then Hunter gets the call he dreads and has to go back undercover to become part of a chop-shop ring. This time his contact is the ring leaders beautiful sister Roberta. Hunter has to pretend to be Roberta's boyfriend while cutting off all contact with Cami.
Cami is trying to get through school with the help of Hunter's best friend Russ while Hunter is on his top secret assignment. Cami cannot have any communication with Hunter for her safety, so she is constantly worrying about his safety. Hunter slips up and asks Cami to meet him as he just can't stand not seeing her. The next thing he knows Cami is involved in his case and he doesn't know how to get her back out.
Hunter and Cami are now both undercover trying to keep their stories straight while watching the other pretend to be with someone else. Something is bound to break and it does, sending Hunter and Cami into danger.
This was another great action/romance book from Lacey Weatherford, maybe a little YA for me, but the story kept my interest once again.
LOVED this book! The female lead was amazing. Cami was strong, smart, sweet, funny, just an all together great girl. She wasnt whiney like most females in books. She wasnt afraid to speak her mind. Showed that communication in a relationship is important. Hunter/Dylan...yum. Wanted him to myself. He showed what it was to be a man in love and who would do anythng for her! I wish there was going to be a book 3?!?!?! I doubt it but I am wanting to see where the who lead. I am picturing there will be a Russ story though. My only issue was the end...it was very quick. I wanted to see what happened with Roberta to be honest.
Smitten is the sequel to Crush and we get a little more undercover cop hotness of Hunter/Dylan.
Cami is attending college and now that she is 18 years old she can finally be in a relationship with Hunter. Only now another undercover job is keeping them apart. When Hunter can't take being apart from Cami anymore he contacts her and puts her smack in the middle of his investigation. When the guy Hunter is investigating, Ripper, catches them together he has to introduce Cami as his sister In order to keep his cover from being blown. Ripper seems to have an instant interest in Cami and in order to help keep Hunter safe Cami plays along. On top of everything else Hunter is undercover as the boyfriend of Ripper's sister, Roberta, and Cami has to witness her man kissing and pretending to be Roberta's boyfriend. Roberta is helping the police with taking down her brother who she thinks murdered her boyfriend, Manny, and is involved in a ring of grand theft auto. The only problem is Roberta seems to really enjoy playing the part of Hunter's girlfriend and is constantly making sure she has her hands and mouth all over him whenever possible. Will Hunter and Cami keep it together to get through this investigation or will their love for each other take over and blow Hunter's cover?
I liked the book, I just didn't love the book. Hunter and Cami's relationship is cute and very vanilla for my taste. That's why this makes for a very good YA book. I need more spiciness when it comes to the romance scenes! If you read Crush then by all means read Smitten, it's nice to see where Hunter and Cami end up in their relationship! I really give this book 3.5 stars but figured I round it up to 4.
*Sighs* oh Hunter (Dylan) the things you do to me, "I'm finally out of that damn sling, and my muscles are feeling good after therapy. I figured you and I could celebrate together. What do you think? Maybe cuddle on the couch and watch a movie?" He paused, pulling away to look at me. "Or we could skip the movie and make out instead." You can tell that Hunter loves his girl and would/will do anything to be with her, "Don't you even try to take the blame! This is my fault. I knew better than to ask you to meet me, but I couldn't take it any longer." Ripper he just gives me the heebie-jeebies, "girl, you look better than I even remembered, and that's saying something. I guess you are worth all the effort I've put into tracking you down." Hunter is still possessive especially this time around, "you are mine." Cami is still a little spitfire and that's why we love her dearly, "seriously? You almost died and all you want to know is if you won? If I weren't so happy to see you I'd knock you out myself right now. We've been terrified." Did I like this book? Hell no, I loved it! I always love my Hunter man!
SOOOOO BORING!!! I hate giving negative reviews but I was honestly disappointed with this book. There was no action and no actual drama (other than what was in their heads). The whole goody two shoes thing got old and fast! I wonder if this author has actually ever held a conversation with a police officer or an eighteen year old girl because the dialogue was insanely unreal. I liked the first book okay but seriously wish I hadn't wasted the time on this one.
"Smitten the sequel to Crush was definitely worth the wait! The way that Lacey Weatherford is able to capture the love between Hunter and Cami is magical. A true love story doesn't have to resolve around the sex, true love is the tenderness and endearing actions that you do daily. No wonder Lacey has been named The Queen of Hearts!" I really enjoy how the author was able to basically pick the story up almost right where Crush finished off. I loved the interactions between Hunter/Dylan, Cami and Russ. For Cami meeting his parents for the first time and finding out how he grew up and the lifestyle he lived was great to give her perspective into him. Their relationship is based on what all people crave and want. TRUE FRIENDSHIP. Because of situations that occurred in Crush they haven't yet moved on to the next level. Then Dylan must go back to work and Cami is unfortunately placed right into his assignment. I would highly recommend this story if you believe their are such a thing as soul mates because after reading this beautifully written story I BELIEVE. There is no lack of danger, suspense and action. This is not simply a love story, its a story of finding oneself with the help of others and laying old ghosts finally to rest. Excellent read for the tween and up in my opinion. Enough drama and excitement for the adult but respectful and tastefully done for the younger crowd. I definitely look for more in this story in the future. Would give 10 stars if I could.
I received a copy in exchange for a honest and unbiased review.
Im not sure if i liked this better than Crush, but then im not sure if i liked Crush better than this one? they both really were very good reads!
What i liked about this book: ✓ That Hunter/Dylan and Cami's love never went away. you always knew it was there and didn't have any doubts that there feelings were going. ✓ Hunter/Dylan's protectiveness over Cami at all times! Even in front of Ripper he couldn't contain himself from protecting her. ✓ The way this story was put! i loved how it was another undercover assignment and that Cami was also involved! That was pretty mad!
What i didn't really like: ✘ That when Hunter/Dylan first saw Roberta he was thinking about how gorgeous she was, and pin pointing every mother trucking gorgeous thing about her! it was annoying! I actually was jealous on Cami's behalf! ✘ Roberta. i hated her! seriously!! She knew that Cami liked Hunter and she full went and made out with him on the spot! bitch.
I enjoyed reading this book, and i think the ending was really good and fast paced! it was enjoying to read and even though it was very suspenseful and thrilling, it was also funny! Very much liked this series. both books were 99 cents on Amazon, go read them!
After everything they've been through together, now it's time for Cami and Hunter (or Dylan) to take their relationship to a whole new level. It went well, until Hunter is assigned to another undercover job. When he has to pretend to be a boyfriend of big time punk's younger sister, trouble dragged Cami along. The target man, fall for her. What will Hunter do when he was torn to protect Cami and finished his assignment?
Very cute story, even though I was kind of expecting more. I mean, I did liked the way Hunter and Cami belongs together, but I feel like this story's left unfinished.
I keep wondering, what will happen to Ripper? I know he's such an asshole, but he respects Cami enough, right? It was proved that Roberta's the sick bitch but still, how about Ripper? And I didn't even satisfied with Hunter and Cami's marriage. I mean, come on. Vegas? I want to read Russ's story though. Will Miss Weatherford continue this series?
I'm hoping she does. I want to know what will happen to Hunter and Cami. Will e quit his job? Will Cami continue her singing until Broadway? Aaaah, I'm dying.
Overall, I enjoyed this book even though not as much as Crush did. Nailed it again, Lacey Weatherford!

Both Hero and Heroine have to play a facade of being in a relationship with other people. Even though they are completely devoted to each other, they both make out with their "girlfriend/boyfriend" and both H and h have thoughts about their girlfriend/boyfriend on how hot they are so this may not be safe to some people.

I have been dying to get my hands on this book since I finished Crush and it absolutely did not disappoint! Smitten picks up with Cami enrolled as a student at the University of Arizona in Tucson and with Hunter/ Dylan back on the police force with the Tucson PD. Hunter is taking Cami to meet his family and she is a ball of nerves which ultimately leads to a really funny moment involving the two of them and a pool. As they are getting ready to enjoy their evening, Hunter and Chris (Hunter’s brother in law who we meet in Crush) are called into a meeting at work and Hunter is assigned a new undercover case immediately in place of another detective who needed emergency surgery. He has to leave immediately with no contact allowed between him and Cami or his family.
Russ, Hunter’s best friend from Crush, is also enrolled at U of A and spends time keeping Cami company at Hunter’s request. It was great to see characters pulled through from the initial book and woven throughout this storyline. After a few weeks, both Cami and Hunter are ready to go nuts without being able to talk to each other, and Hunter finally gives in one night sending Cami a message to meet him. Of course Ripper (the person he is investigating) follows him and they have to make up a story about Cami being Hunter’s sister, especially since Hunter is posing as Ripper’s sister Roberta’s boyfriend. Ripper takes a liking to Cami, and without a plausible way to get her out of the situation, Cami is pulled into the charade.
Roberta is aware that Hunter is a cop since she went to the police hoping that they would be able to find out what happened to her boyfriend Manny after he disappeared after a fight with Ripper. But she isn’t averse to putting the moves on Hunter for real and enjoys rubbing Cami’s nose in it knowing that she is not really Hunter’s sister. Likewise, Hunter has to try control his feelings and temper watching Ripper with Cami, so there is definitely some tension to put it mildly.
I loved this book from start to finish and only put it down once when I couldn't stay awake any longer. It had action, romance, suspense, fast cars, and Vegas- what more can you ask for? Hunter is more swoon-worthy than ever and he clearly loves Cami. There was a twist at the end of the book that I sort of suspected but wasn't sure about until it all played out but I don’t have a bad thing to say about this story. Lacey provided an epilogue for a glimpse into their future, and I am hoping that maybe next we will get Russ’s story- he was a great friend to both of them and deserves his own HEA down the line.
"Love does crazy things, doesn't it? It can step in and change people's live completely."
This one was a cute continuation of Cami and Dylan's story. I liked seeing their lives after the last story and how neither of them were compromising who they were to be together. A lot of things were brought up again - like the age gap and the risky job situation - and Cami also had to come to terms with what happened to her in the last book.
Lots of good stuff and totally worth the read. I'm looking forward to the next one.
Oh, I had so much fun with this book! I laughed and cringed along with the characters at the embarrassing moments, sighed and swooned over the many, many, MANY romantic scenes while catching my breath and holding onto my metaphorical hat at the perils Cami and Hunter face during their second adventure.
Hunter is sent undercover with a dangerous car thief and suspected murderer who goes by the inauspicious name of 'Ripper' at the beginning of Smitten. He does his best to keep Cami out of his work, but with one careless (albeit very romantic) mistake, he inadvertently pulls her right into the middle of it. Hunter's protective nature is strained to the very limit. I won't say more except that it gets very, very messy and is highly entertaining.
The villains were nicely done; I found myself looking at Ripper and wondering, going back and forth in my mind whether to believe he had committed all of the crimes he was suspected of or not. By the end I had a pretty good idea, but I was still surprised by a couple of things.
For those who haven't read it, I will say this without spoilers. For those who have read it, you know what I'm talking about. Page 226 (page number may vary slightly depending on the format). Oh. My. Freaking. Goodness. Only Lacey Weatherford could have pulled that off, and it was AMAZING. Other than that, my lips are sealed.
While Smitten didn't replace Crush as my favorite Lacey Weatherford book, it was a wonderful sequel. While it appears to be the end of Cami and Hunter's story, maybe with some well-aimed and not at all subtle hints she could be talked into another one...? We can always hope.
I received an advance e-copy of this book from the author in exchange for a fair and honest review. Thank you, Lacey, for listening to our pleas for a sequel to Crush!
I'm shallow...although I did love book 1, I admit I also love the covers which was the reason I bought the first book...yep, no shame in admitting that. However, I do also love Hunter/Dylan and Cami. This book picks up with Cami in college and Dylan being assigned at the last minute to a new undercover case. They're in love and she is getting ready to meet the family when things just don't go the way they expected. With no warning, he is off with a "new" girlfriend and no contact allowed between them. Unfortunately, she does get roped in and seriously, I don't know if I could have stood having another person groping at my significant other. How Cami puts up with it when Dylan has a harder time is funny. He is the cop, but doesn't do well with Cami's "new" boyfriend touching and kissing her. The story moved along pretty well and I was glad to see Russ was still a part of the story as well. I didn't see the twist with Roberta until much later, and aside from the idea of marriage at such a young age, enjoyed this book as much as the first.
This is the sequel to crush. You need to read crush first to get the full reading experience. Smitten starts out where crush left off. Cami and Dylan (aka hunter) are still together. A few months have past since the clay disaster. Cami has entered college and Dylan has been reinstated on the force. Dylan has been put on an undercover assignment trying to find the murderer of Manny, a known dealer in a car theft ring. Dylan's contact is the suspects sister Roberta. Dylan is to pretend to be roberta's boyfriend. Dylan is not to have contact with his personal family but after 3 weeks Dylan risks a chance encounter with cami. During this meeting cami is discovered by the leader of the car theft ring. Cami pretends to be dylan's foster sister and the car theft ring leader starts to really like cami. Can cami stand watching Dylan with reberta? And can Dylan stand someone all over cami? Will Dylan uncover the car theft ring and bring justice to manny's murderer?
In my opinion, smitten is even better than the first. A must read!
Aggggh I was so looking forward to this book. I found hunter to be a real wet lettuce , in fact I can't even be bothered to write a long review, so in a few words
Luke warm, pasty grey, neutral romance.
It seems every one else loved this book so may be its just me,
If you are thinking this follow up book will be all hearts and flowers, please think again. Yes, Dylan (aka Hunter Wilder) and Cami are still in love and they are still together. But Hunter Wilder is going back undercover and he has to end all contact with Cami until the assignment is over.
Hunter has all new things on assignment - new muscle car and a hot new girlfriend, Roberta. Even though Roberta knows Hunter is undercover she wants more than a fantasy relationship with him. Hunter is dating Roberta to get information about the murder of her boyfriend and to get in on the operations of her brother, Ripper Riveria. The only thing that can destroy the undercover operation is Cami...or Hunter. We will let you decide on your own! Hmmmmmmm
What we loved ~ how we got to know Dylan's family. Even if its just a brief introduction it was a great addition to the book. We love how Russ (the friend that got poisoned by the nut Clay in Crush) is also a big part of the book. Russ is super funny! And he had us laughing throughout the book. He agreed to watch over Cami while Hunter is on assignment, and some of the stuff that comes out of his mouth - OMG!
We have to say that for Cami to be so young, she handled herself better than one would imagine. She was NOT griping and complaining, she really rolled with the punches and went with whatever was handed to her. And that makes her one of the top female book characters for us. We get so sick of the weak women running and crying - only to come to their senses and come back to the guy. Cami stayed true to her heart and we were freaking thrilled about that.
We can't really dive into the story without giving anything away...and we definitely don't want to spoil the book for you. But just know Hunter will not be the only one hooking up with Cami, there will be a HUGE surprise in Vegas, and just when you think the book is over - BAM there is a knock at the door! If only we could prepare you for what happens...Kudos to Lacey Weatherford for a great sequel book!
I'm too smitten with this book! Love, family, action, mystery drama, suspense and intensity - the fire just keeps burning for Cami and Hunter.
Smitten kicks off a few months from where the first book Crush ends up. But the intensity and tension between Cami and Dylan is by far more palpable here, add up to this is the additional sense of suspense and action to Hunter's new mission.
He was set to be an undercover for a car thief suspected for murder. But with one careless mistake, he unintentionally pulls Cami right in the middle of it.
Their relationship was tested when they both needed to watch each other acts as someone that they’re not while keeping their faces and story straight.
I won't say more but from that start expect a messy, intriguing but highly entertaining story along the way. The villains are all so convincing - they’re all nicely done. I have my hesitations with Ripper if he really is the suspect for the crime, I have a hunch but I was still surprised with things at the end. I honestly like the flow of the story – it was really unpredictable, the character’s and villains moves and everything in between. It’s all so convincing and good and the way things ended? I was surprised but I totally loved it!
I still love Cami - her strength as character, compassion and just the way she sees the good things in people. Having Cami dragged into Hunter's work could be very dangerous but I really do like how it was composed, I love the thrill it gives to me and the additional twist to the story. Hunter of course, still wins my heart here.
I had so much fun reading this book, in fact I think I enjoyed it far more than the first one. I laughed, get thrilled and swooned over those romantic scenes that I've been waiting for Cami and Hunter. I totally loved it. I could say that the wait for it was oh so worth it.
I spent last night reading Smitten and while I think that book #1 was a bit better I still enjoyed this! The ending did not come as a huge surprise to me - but then I didn't pick the book up because of the mystery and great crime, I just wanted the complicated love story.
I have to say - and the following will be a huge spoiler - that I was surprised how smoothly things went for Cami & Hunter/Dylan even though they were in this messed up situation. And while I think that getting married towards the end of a book had turned into a YA cliché in the last couple years I liked this one. Mainly because it happened (kind of on accident) in Vegas while being under duress and dressed like Elivs and Precilla. It had a certain uniqueness to it so I overlook the fact that I think that getting the characters married is over-the-top (and that is my personal opinion probably mainly because I cannot imagine getting married before I'm 30 and getting married at 18 never crossed my mind back then and I just think it's weird.. but honestly I just don't think marriage is that important as long as you're with the person that makes you happy. but srsly enough about that :D).
All in all it was a light and fun read, no great surprises/ plot twists but since I did not expect any I got what I was looking for - romance. And that I got so I'm happy with the book, I enjoyed it and I think people that liked Crush will enjoy reading this one as well :-)
P.S. May I just say that I was really really glad that the epilogue was not "2 years later - Cami's pregnant". Because for a second I expected that and that would have kind of ruined it for me. I just don't see Cami as a girl that would want to get pregnant with 20 - therefore really glad it didn't happen.
