Pole Dance

Rate this book
Caitlin Tomas was at the end of her rope. She's working four menial jobs to make ends meet and supplement her half-ride scholarship at the University where she's determined to get her degree in four years as her parents had planned. But it's hard to find time to study, much less sleep, when you've got so much going on. Overhearing her lab partner describing her Pole Dancing job at the Fuego Club and how much she gets paid and tipped, Caitlin decides to apply.
Expecting to interview with a middle-aged mafia-type, troglodyte, Caitlin was shocked to find her interview was with the young, smoking hot, co-owner, Jake Stanton. He soon discovers that Caitlin is not suited as a dancer for the Fuego's, but is definitely suited for him especially when he has first hand evidence of how she is treated by one of her bosses and a bank president that makes a visit to her apartment after banking hours.
He is further intrigued when he receives a background check on her and discovers that she was exactly who she said she was--a starving student with no living family, struggling to meet commitments of work and school. In his business, that kind of honesty is rare and he is completely captivated.
Jake begins a campaign to win Cait's heart, but she is so fiercely independent that he has trouble breaking down her walls. She views his help as 'trying to take over' and tries to resist him at every turn. It doesn't help when she is accosted by a jealous ex-lover who says that Jake will try and buy his way into her bed. His efforts are further hampered by a distrustful business partner, a serial killer who's victims are current or former dancers of Fuego's, and Floyd, the cat.
Through all this can the world-weary Jake convince the naïve but independent Caitlin that sharing his life doesn't mean giving up hers?
Pole Dance is the first in the Dance series and is intended for mature readers only. Graphic language and detailed sexual situations.

My heart was beating so freaking fast. I could hear the murmurings of the crowd behind the curtain where I was hiding, that separated me from them.
It was time. Time for me to come out and talk with them, those people from Goodreads that had read my books, rated my books and that wanted to know the person behind the words.
I stepped my way carefully out onto the stage, my heartbeat the only sound my ears could hear.
"Hi," I mumbled into the microphone. "My name is Judy and I write as J.A. Hornbuckle."
Damn. My voice sounded as hesitant as I felt.
"Tha-thank you so much for your interest." I was fumbling. But, I'd done this before. The public speaking thingie. And I really hadn't ever been this nervous before. But, geesh, I'd had notes then.
Not now.
Deep breath, my mind instructed.
Okay, that I could do.
"I, ah, I don't know what to…uhm, I'm uncertain what I'm supposed to talk about," I began.
The fact that I couldn't see into the crowd was a problem. Talking to crowds is supposed to be like talking to other people. But I couldn't actually SEE the other people.
Crap.
Just start at the beginning.
"I started writing because of a migraine," I started, my voice reedy and thin even in the amplification of the microphone. "I'd read three crap books in a row and thought I could do better."
I cleared my throat which I hadn't realized beforehand would be captured by the speakers.
"Sorry," I mumbled and tried again.
"I read three books that convinced me that I could write better. I'm an avid reader. A voracious reader that consumed four to six fiction books a week. Three books, three crap books, meant that I had wasted fifty percent of my reading time. And I knew that I could do better, could write better."
The noise in the large room lessened as I spoke and I gained courage from that silence.
"As I laid on the floor of my walk-in closet because it, of all the rooms in my apartment, had no noise, no light, and with my frozen pack of corn on my head, thought of the book I might write."
I remembered that time of pain. Of hurting so bad that my stomach would roil, where every heartbeat was torture and I couldn't breathe without the air hurting my teeth.
"I started to think about Caitlin and Jake, about what was to become 'Pole Dance', and eventually I found that I could shove that pain to one side as I planned. I learned to stash a steno pad and pen in there with me and use my baby finger to hold the end of the steno pad and write in the dark."
I heard a couple of chuckles which made me bolder.
"I tried to capture the story on my computer in my 'dull roar' times. And, in a word? It was crap. I didn't know what I was doing. So I started to study. Read, absorbed. But you know what I found? Writing is like driving a car. You can read about driving, learning the rules of the road, reading about safety tips and precautions. But until you are actually behind the wheel? Oh, baby. Completely different story."
More laughs this time. My knees were steadier and I felt my voice strengthen.
I needed to finish up.
"My name is Judy. And I'm a new author who is learning by the seat of her yoga pants as she goes. Thank you so much for reading and reviewing my books. You mean a lot to me."
I smiled and waved into the glare that was hiding the group that had come to hear me speak.
Because I've never spoken so much and with such honesty from my heart at one time.

A quirky, sassy and quick read that unfortunately and surprisingly didn't completely work for me.

description

Unfortunately, because it was kinda long and I wanted to love it and surprisingly, because it contains the elements to push ALL my buttons.

The beginning of the book got me excited, but somewhere along the middle I was lost. Too much going on at the same time, many secondary characters with their own garbage, a mysterious and dangerous sub-plot that I didn't see coming, because it felt kind of irrelevant, until it was too late. I liked the style and I liked the story but I couldn't connect with it.

Caitlin
She is a sweet and caring girl with too many problems. It actually feels like it rains on her. ALL THE TIME.

description

She lost her family, she is poor, a struggling student with too many jobs to handle and a scholarship to maintain. Despair is a bad companion so she decides, the hell with modesty and she applies for a pole-dancer position.

description

After a couple of You-Tube videos, she performs for the owner. He sees that she is as green as the grass and pure as spring water and turns her down. But he can't ever forget her.

It felt a little surreal, how everyone took advantage and some of them conned Caitlin. It needed a little down-tone to be more believable..

description

Jake Straton
He owns the strip club Caitlin applies to. After watching her performance, he can't get her out of his head. Her innocence and sweetness, touched his cold heart and melted something inside. Powerful, rich, alpha male that he is, he conquers.

Jake is everything you could ask in a hero. Possessive, arrogant, coming from a poor background, willing to put his womanizing days behind, protective and sexy, he sweeps Caitlin of her feet and hands her the world.

Their relationship is hot, make sense and I really, really liked it.

I think this book was a good effort that needed a few tweaks, to completely work. J.A. Hornbuckle shows some great potential that I'm willing to follow. I have higher expectations for the next!

For now, MOVING ON!!!

DNF. - 60%

This was so supposed to be my 100th book, guess 100 is not my lucky number :)

I'm sorry I feel very bad but I'm just wasting my time! I just cannot get into the book. I've seen reviews on GR that it looks good but as said in my previous status this is my problems with the book:

Problem 1:

Pink parts - Who says pink parts?? LOL

Problem 2:

They are like "doing" it and then the next moment she is standing in the supermarket hahaha!

Problem 3:

There are like 3million stories in this one book

Problem 4:

Struggling to connect with them.

Problem 5:

He doesn't talk full sentences, which I'm fine with seeing as I'm a big KA fan where the alpha never talks full sentences. But in this book it's like WTF did you just say? Hahahaha

Problem 6

He calls her Pretty girl - it sounds likes she is 5years old hahaha

If this book is on TBR give it a try you might like it it just didn't work for me!!

Over and out the ranting is over :)

Random thoughts

There are quite a few KA similarities in here, since Knight in particular is one I reread often there's one scene in here that was so familiar I got goose bumps

A whole lot of Darlin's ,rumbling, bossy Jake and naive completely broke college sweetheart Cait who men want so much they'd do anything

We get it she's broke!

She's holding down about 3-4 jobs but still gets her clothes at 2.50 - 2.75 but she's stubborn enough to argue about him not asking her to pay for her car repair at a mechanic shop he Co owns 🙄

Only one pole dance occurred in this book so the title is a bit misleading

Jake is incapable of using complete sentences and uses yeah so often I wanted to clobber him repeatedly lol (another KA familiar, yet way too overdone)

One wonders if the next book is similar to At Peace, with the two officers and Marianne especially as Ram refers to Jake as "buddy" frequently 🙄

OW drama from one of the strippers that Jake hooked up with for a week in the early days of him owning his strip club. What he said to her was so dumb it's unbelievable but again KA familiar.

He was a manwhore of epic variety but he's not about that life anymore (I'd still wait for test results though)

From the moment he saw her though he was all about her and her alone

Cait may take the dumbest college student I've ever met award

Mystery that just suddenly and randomly appeared and the bad "guy" was so ridiculous I literally facepalmed

This is basically to KA as a glass of lemonade that was once filled with ice cubes, a watered down version of the original.

*********Pink bits/parts????? She actually said pink bits over and over and over again in reference to her vagina🤦 it's a miracle I even finished this 😂

THE STORY

Caitlin Tomas has hard a hard life.
It wasn’t always hard.
But lately it has been.

Her parents and sister passed away from a car accident years ago leaving her heavily in debt.
While the life insurance covered some things it wasn’t enough for everything.
Their dream was for her to finish college in 4 years instead of 6.
So instead of living the college life of debauchery and being young.
She is working 4 menial jobs and eating raman noodles just to make ends meet.

At College she hears her lab partner Renee talking about how she got a job at Fuego’s the local strip club and made $300 a session!
That’s more than Caitlin makes in her 3 jobs.

That’s how she finds herself in Fuego’s office sitting opposite Jake Stanton interviewing to become a stripper.
Jake tells her that she doesn’t have what it would take to be a exotic dancer.
She is desperate so decides to show him what she can do.
She has researched on YouTube how to do all the tricks and practised at home.
It can’t be that hard it?

What she wasn’t planning on was becoming so aroused while dancing for Jake.
Jake wasn’t planning on becoming so aroused by watching Caitlin.
He hasn’t been turned on watching his girls for years.

Then comes the moment of truth. He has to see her naked.
After a sensual dance to remove her clothes, Caitlin comes to the realisation that although the money would be awesome she can’t do it.
She thanks him for his time and leaves.

Jake is shocked.
He has never seen anything hotter in his whole life!
Although she is not right for the club, he wants her to be perfect for him.

As he is walking out of the office he see’s Caitlin still in her car.
It has broken down.
He offers her a ride home. Well pretty much tells her he is taking her home.
He takes in the blanket she has wrapped around her as the car has no heater.
He has the car towed to get fixed.
He then takes her to get her pay cheque from her boss.
Her boss is a freaking sleaze and luckily Jake walks in first as he finds said sleazy boss with his pants undone and his penis hanging out. Needless to say Jake sorts him out and what he can and can’t do around Caitlin anymore.
He then takes her home to find Layton Jamison at her house as she is late with the mortgage payment. 39 days late! That doesn’t need the bank manager stopping by your door. Jake tells him this and then takes it upon himself to have his PI look into Caitlin’s life.

Jake then makes it his mission to try and win her over.
She is so innocent he needs something pure and clean in his life.
It’s hard at first, she is so headstrong and stubborn and won’t allow him to buy her.
She pays her own way!
She can’t continuously have such bad luck. Not if he can help it.
His sordid, bad boy- manwhoring lifestyle is always just in the background, but he does everything he can to win her over.
He has never had a girlfriend before so it is a learning curve for the big bad Alpha male…

But he eventually succeeds with a sweet epilogue.

SECONDARY STORY

While the main story in this is a love story between Caitlin and Jake.
There is a back story regarding a few characters.

Firstly there is a serial killer that is slowly killing off girls that have worked at Jake and Dale’s club “Fuegos”
They seemed to be a ceremoniously positioned and always found between dumpsters.
Because of this investigation we do meet a few detectives and the Police Chief who play secondary roles and will have their own books in the series.

There is the tattoo shop and sex shop, that are next to Fuego’s which will also have their stories.

Dale’s ex girlfriend that broke his heart coming back into their loves.

Marianne, Caitlin’s neighbour and friend becomes the interest of one hot detective and also the Police Chief.

MY HONEST OPINION

LLLOOOOVED IT!

I know what people are saying it. It’s a carbon copy of KA books.

No it’s not.

You can clearly tell that KA is an influence of J.A Hornbuckle and that Jake does at times remind you of lovable KA characters. Especially when he does “Jake Speak” Saying things like
“Mouth babe”
"Mouth, Darlin'"
"Mouth, Cait,"
"Don't like saying things twice, Darlin',"

BUT While I LOOOVVE Queen KA and NO-ONE writes like her, when I do read about Alpha’s they all tend to be bossy, cavemen who grunt and speak Alpha.

So well done to J.A Hornbuckle you totally put your own spin on it and I fell head over heels in love with Jake Stanton! You've made me a fan!

Characters?
Awesome.
I loved being in Jake and Cait’s head.
Caitlin was such a strong willed woman. She may be only 20 but she was wise beyond her years. At time naive but I actually liked her!
Jake was just delish! I could lick him all day long. He even uses Babe, Darlin and his own nickname for her “Pretty girl” *sigh*
He was overprotective, overbearing, bossy, extremely foul mouthed and amazing in the bedroom, EVERYTHING I LOVE.

Mystery?
MEH.. This threw me to be honest.
It isn’t even mentioned until like 50% of the book.
At first I felt like it was just thrown in there, but then I began to enjoy it, trying to figure it out and enjoying the new cast it brought with it.
- I would of liked a little bit more explanation about why/when/how etc when it was revealed who did it.

Sex Scenes?
WAAAHHHOOOOAAA!!
Jake knows his stuff, and Caitlin isn’t afraid to ask! Even the make out sessions are hot!

Writing style?
I really did enjoy it. You could tell who’s head you were in by the Guy speak Vs Girl speak.
Couple of things that did annoy me?
I am all for description, I don’t know 1 single person who EVER says “Pink PARTS/bits” .. It's a Vagina or Pussy or dirtier words... You can't say dick, cock etc and then say pink parts/bits
For example

using both my hands and thighs to grip it as I rubbed, dragged and touched my quivering pink pieces to it's shiny surface
.......
As I showed my pink bits
.......
Making my pink bits swell in anticipation
......
I swallowed audibly and my pink parts responded with a spasm

At times it was a little annoying, as one minute your sitting in class with Cailin and she daydreams and relives last night sex marathon then your at the mini mart working?

But
The longer I read the better it became though.

So all in all I think you should try this if you like the sounds of it.

I can’t wait for the next one to have Marianne, Ram and Paul’s story and hope that Cait and Jake show up so I can see how they are. Especially after that epilogue!

And after reading the sneak peak of Metamorphic I’m looking forward to that too....Anyone know when it’s out?
Dex sounds hot!

Maybe I've been going about this the wrong way. I've taken pole dance classes. They're fun and can be sexy when it's done right cause if you're doing it wrong it can be funny. I've done sexy and funny but the point is just let yourself go and have a good time. I should just walk into a strip club, make sure the owner is a hottie, grab his hand, walk towards a pole, have him take a seat and just start performing my ass off and see if he falls in lurve with me. Couldn't hurt right? Anywho...

When I first started reading this book, Tina Turner's Private dancer came into mind. I was swaying while reading this and singing out loud at certain times.

I'm your private dancer, a dancer for money
I'll do what you want me to do
I'm your private dancer, a dancer for money
Any old music will do
(Moby's Porcelain)

Caitlin is an orphaned 20 year who needs money ASAP. She decides to apply for a stripper with no experience except for what she learned on Youtube. She's being interviewed by Jake the owner to Fuego Club, a strip joint. She tells him her life story on how she lost her family, the many jobs she has just to make ends meet and so on. He tells her that she is not what they're looking for and in a panic she asks to perform for him. He agrees and she sees a pole in the corner of his office. She's extremely nervous almost an innocent while she's dancing for him. After her erotic performance(and I will admit it kinda turned me on), he asks her to see her naked. This makes her more nervous but she does and before she can go any further she tells him that this isn't what she wants and leaves immediately. Unbeknownst to Caitlin, Jake fell in love with her. See, Jake is a reformed manwhore bad boy, thanks in part to a talk with his brother Frank. Jake sees the beauty that Caitlin is, the innocence that pores off of her and he wants the good she can bring to his life.

Jake persues her with the attention she needs. Either it's a hug, a kiss on the forehead, calling her Darling or helping with her financial situation. I loved their relationship. She didn't put up with his ways and she infuriated him with her naivete. What I also loved was how he brought out her sexual nature. You can't deny that they didn't have hot sexual chemistry. Jake adores, protects, comforts his caitlin. He's not afraid to show his emotions either with his words, touches or tears. He's truthful about his past and what was a nice change was that he didn't drive a Lexus, BMW, Audi. He drove a fucking Kia. A Kia! Like a boss.

The title of the book is just how Jake and Caitlin met, with the perfomance she did for him on the pole. The story doesn't really deal with the drama of the club except for a psycho that is part of the story. Other side characters are introduced and you know that they will get their stories. The only beef I had was that the author used the term pink parts to describe her vagina too much. Other than that I really enjoyed the story and I will definitley be reading more of the authors work.

I will start with the obvious. Kristen Ashley is my favorite author. I have devoured everything she has written and stalk her pretty much daily. Everyone is talking about this being a copy. I'm not going to go that far, it is not a copy, you can't copy brilliance. But anyone who has every read a Kristen Ashley book will for sure see the influence. Now, that being said, I have read a lot of books that use the same language that KA does for her alpha men. Who used it first? Who knows, but you read books with alpha men and they use one word for a lot and that is just how it is. So, I will not say this is a copy, I will just say that the author obviously loves KA and was thoroughly influenced by her. I really liked the story, it's one we have seen many times, alpha man with some loot falling for an innocent, pure girl and wanting to save her and can't live without her, but I still enjoyed it. I loved Jake and how he was with Caitlyn. I loved Caitlyn's innocence as well as her strength . I used to only read Romantic Suspense so the mystery was a little bonus to the hot, hot, hot stuff. So, say what you will, I am glad I read it and will read more in this series. I won't complain about the KA influence because I love KA and well, taking some of her amazingness to influence your writing isn't a bad thing.

1-28-2013. At the 49% mark and the H/Jake is very KA Hero like in his dialogue and mannerisms. Pretty easy read, like it well enough so far. However, all that talk about pink parts and bits is annoying.

4 stars. Yep, the author mentions she’s a Kristen Ashley fan as you can tell from some of the dialogue/words used that she’s patterned some of her bk after our beloved KA. A nice compliment. I can’t read the word “cake” when referencing $$ and the endearment “Babe” as a single word response and not think of KA. Jake did make me think of a KA alpha Hero who falls hard for Caitlin and I really liked him. Caitlin, although young, was a nice balance of vulnerable and independent wanting to fight Jake’s totally taking care of her in that steamroller alpha kinda way. I’d sure let Jake take care of me ;-). The sex scenes were hot and Jake/Caitlin had some nice chemistry. Just hope the author loses the annoying use of “pink parts/pink bits” as a description in reference to the female anatomy in future bks. There was also a brief bit of light suspense thrown in for dramatic effect.

There’s only one KA and all others pale in comparison but this is a nice little read if you’re craving a KA story and need something similar (kinda KA lite so to speak). Yep, another series but Jake/Caitlin’s story ends on a sweet HEA and we’ve got the makings of bk 2 (Tap Dance) and a little love triangle started with one of Caitlin’s tenants and 2 members of the towns police force. Dale, Jakes business partner, totally went off the rails with anger issues near the end of the story which was a surprise and can’t wait to see what’s in store for him. The author also has another series she’s writing about featuring the town’s tattoo parlor. Will add this author to my watch list as one I’d like to get to know better.

Caitlin Tomas is at her wits end, trying to honor her parents wishes by getting thru college in four years. However, after her parents death she is struggling with four jobs and juggling college in order to keep her grades high enough for her scholarship. Hearing her lab partner in biology gossiping about the money she is earning pole dancing, Caitlin decides to see if she can get a job their too.

Co-Owner of Fuego's, Jake Stanton knows an innocent when he sees it, and Caitlin is pure innocence. Knowing he is not going to hire her, he is surprised of her tenacity at trying to get the job, however Caitlin surprises him again with her honesty and then deciding the job is not for her.

Jake wants to know more about Caitlin and see if everything she claims is the truth. Jake finds he can't stay away from Caitlin and has a plan to make her his own. He doesn't plan on Caitlin's need to make her own decisions and adverse reactions to help. He is hooked to Caitlin and plans to never let her go, but there is a dangerous person who is killing women attached to Fuego and has their sites on Caitlin.

This was completely different than I expected. Loved Caitlin, she is adorable and at the same time a force to be reckoned with. Jake was alpha male and I wanted more. I would have given a 5 star but there was one part of the story that I felt like was not resolved completely so now I wonder. Highly entertaining read.

Oh, my God. Where do I even start with this book? It was awful! It really was.
To start, the characters are annoying as hell! They're not likeable at all. And they all spoke English atrocities. I mean, is it that hard to speak normal?
And even the 'love scenes' were terrible! Ok, I get it, the girl is very inexperienced and all that crap, but does she really have to call her genitalia 'pink parts' or 'pink bits' or 'pink areas' or pink whatever? No!
Image and video hosting by TinyPic

And Jake... I honestly wanted to like Jabe because he was hot and cute and stuff, but it's not going to happen. The way he talks! God, that almost killed me (and not in a good way!).

Want you, Caitlin. Want to be inside you. Can't think, Darlin', 'cept 'bout buryin' myself in your hot, wetness.

Like this all the time!
Image and video hosting by TinyPic

There were a lot of technical mistakes too, like... the normal procedures on murder crimes and such.
Overall it was a really bad book and I couldn't feel a thing for the characters not even pity.

I LOVE this book, I stayed up from midnight to 6:30am reading this, I simply couldn't have put it down if I tried...
Caitlin is a mess, her parents have died, her 3 part time jobs are running her into the ground and her grades are starting to slip to a point she could lose her scholarship...
description

Enter sexy titty bar owner Jack
description
HOT HOT HOTTTTTTT!! *Fans self*
Caitlin interviews to be a pole dancer at the titty bar but Jake knows she is too young to do it (20 not 21) so why then is he asking her to take her clothes of anyway? Well, he's a guy, no mystery there ;) he wants her for himself.... Because, you know, it's normal to start relationships like that :/
description
Anyway.... First day after she gets rejected, her car breaks down, he decides to take her home, so she asks him to stop at one place she works, she is meant to go in the back to get her paycheck, but Jake goes back instead, discovers Mahmood, her boss sat with his dick out
description
Then he goes home with her, sees her inside, and who is there? The slimy bank manager who wants to screw her brains out >:(
her mortgage payment is only 39 days late, so why may you ask is he at her house? Well he actually is STEALING her money, he stole power of attorney over her, thus stealing her grandmothers mansion, and $500k of her money left by her parents.... Bastard!
THEN THE MURDERS START description
Yea, thats where Im going to have to end the back ground and start with the opinions...
The only thing that pissed me off about the book was that it ended before anything happened to the bank manager so you never see whether she gets her money back from him - and I NEED to see her get that back or it feels unfinished
description

However, I loved the dual POV between Jake and Caitlin, I felt it really added to the story, I wouldve liked to know what he was thinking during the first club scene, though.

Summary:
Characters:
Love: Caitlin and Jake - <3
Mirriame and the Police Chief *purr*
Ms. Lilly (Mrs. Baxter)- sweet kind old lady, practically Jakes mom
Renee Jamison - who doesnt love a good airhead :)
The other police officers were cool too
Hate:
Fiona, Hank and the Skanks - yuck yuck and double yuck
Bank Manager Jamison - dirty fucking pervert
Dale - What the fuck happened to him?!

Plot: I LOVE this books plot. It was cleverly thought out, the romancing was sweet and the ending (pre-epilogue) was awesome :D I never suspected who the psychopathic killer was.

Writing: There were a few spelling mistake/typos and a couple of grammatical errors, however, I dont feel as though this took away from the story, I didnt really notice all that much when I was reading, it still appeared pretty fluent

Steamy, sexy, yumminess: this was rip your panties off sexy, it made me want to burn them so I could never wear them again, and if I constantly read this book, I would never need them, they had an instant connection, I loved this books steamy sex scenes.

Pole Dance was a quick, fun and sexy read about a hot alpha strip club owner and a girl who can’t seem to catch a break. Caitlin’s parents were killed right before she was about to start college. Even with no outside assistance she’s bound and determined to finish getting her degree in 4 years. To this end, Caitlin finds herself with several part times jobs but nothing that pays enough to keep her head above water. When she overhears her lab partner talking about how much money she makes stripping, Caitlin decides working a pole just might be the answer she’s been waiting for. A couple of youtube videos, a little practice and she’s off to enter the world of topless entertaining.

Jake’s early years weren’t easy and he’s had to work hard to make something of himself. Pushing thirty, he now co-owns several businesses, including the strip club Caitlin hopes will be the answer to her mounting money problems. After a sexy but slightly awkward audition Jake knows she’s not cut out for the stripper life. He is, however, intrigued by Caitlin and starts his quest to find out everything about her via his lawyer and private investigator. Nope, that’s not creepy at all.

Now, I have to mention what I consider to be the elephant in the room. I read in a friends’ review that the author is a big fan of Kristen Ashley. If that's the case, it shows. I love Kristen Ashley’s books and have read almost every single one, some multiple times. For that reason what I consider to be the KA-isms became distracting. I kept thinking ‘that sounds like something Tate in Sweet Dreams would say’ or ‘didn’t Luke say something similar when he was bitching out Ava’s sisters in Rock Chick Revenge?’

”Eyes, Cait, yeah?”

”Mouth, Cait,” Jake demanded in a rumble.

Was Jake exactly like a Kristen Ashley alpha? No, but it was enough to distract me at times. If you’re a KA fan and need a fix, this book might work for you in ways it didn’t for me.

My only other complaint was the addition of the serial killer plot. All of a sudden it just shows up out of nowhere. Three girls have been murdered, all of them ex or current strippers, and no one in this little town had heard about it? Not even the owner of said strip club? Every once in a while it would be mentioned again but it never seemed like it belonged in the story. Either flesh out that part of the story more or omit it.

What completely worked for me was Cait and Jake together. They fell for each other and they fell hard. They were incredibly sweet and we aren’t subjected to any conflict just for the sake of conflict situations. Caitlin’s strong and wants to continue taking care of herself. After a couple of attempts to take over, Jake realizes this and gives her the space she needs. The chemistry and mutual respect these two exhibited was off the charts and made the story in my opinion.

Overall this book was just fun. Hot scenes, some bad ass menfolk and a setup for the next book, which I will be reading.

I picked this book up because, it was mentioned that it had a strong KA( Kristen Ashely) feel to it. You had me at KA so I gave it a try, but this is NO KA BOOK.

I enjoyed the book for the most part of it, and this book had the potential to be a great read but failed.

I like the relationship between Jake & Cait. Jake's nicknames for her where adorable. The mystery part of the book was OK, but it needed more. I also didn't like the unfinished business of Cait's problems with Mr. Jameson regarding her parents estate. I felt the author should have induce what kind of shady dealing he was into. I could understand if the the author gave us a little introduction and wrapped it up in another book, but it felt so unfinished.I should also mention the word pink parts should never to used as a reference of her vaj-jaya(YUK)!!! The author used the pink parts quite a few times & that is not HOT OR SEXY AT ALL!!! There was also a lot of characters frown in at the end of the book obviously for future books. I felt the should have either had them earlier in the book to build up the characters.

Hmmm. Where to start? I guess, most importantly, the editing and writing is horrible. When in first person, the author slips in to third. Words are just missing. And, I'm thinking the author is either not a native English speaker, or a very hard-lived thirteen year old. Frankly, I'm not looking at the author's goodreads page because I don't want to be squicked out! The title for this book and the summary is misleading. Girl does not become a pole dancer, and in fact, only has anything to do with the damn pole in the opening scene. Instead she has broke ass problems left and right and from the second h/h meet, he takes over. Gag me. It's not bad enough that the dialogue is, I don't know, off? Just wrong? I can't explain it, but if you can't make your lead character speak somewhat coherently, then I can't make myself believe he is very attractive. So, you've lost me.
I flounced so I don't know how this story ends, but for a girl who was so broke that she ate ramen noodles twice a day, there were just too many inconsistencies. How she fed a cat but couldn't feed herself, I will never know. And is it just me, or did the cat completely disappear after like chapter eight or so?
So many jobs that she didn't have to study, but could go out with dude every single night. Virgin, but not. Supposedly no one had ever seen her "pink parts" (no, really, that's what she always calls them) but when they have sex, she was on top and it was all orgasm city. The setting had me confused. A college town with one little store, a bank, a bowling alley and a car wash... For fucks sake. Oh, yeah, and a strip club next to a tattoo parlor and adult toy store. Oh wait, there was an old folks home and an accounting firm above a coffee shop, too. I may have lost consciousness here as I banged my head on the arm of my couch.
Her boss at one job jerks off, LITERALLY, when she comes to get her check. The bank manager who is old, fat, balding, and gross is at her apartment harassing her, as if! Obviously, that shady character is trying to rob her somehow, but I just have no fucks left to give.
So, if you want erotica to read, skip this.

This was just boring. I was unable to connect. I did not understand why the hero fell so hard and fast for the heroine. She did one pole dance for him and then took off her clothes.
Yes, I guess it had some KA feel to it, but with KA you connect and you get the feels. With this I was like “I don’t get it.”

DNF. You may love it. Reading is subjective.

I'm not sure of what my rating is. The mechanics of the story is about a 2/2.5 yet I enjoyed the story enough to be 3. So I'm leaving blank right now.

Ms. Hornbuckle is apparently a huge fan of Kristen Ashley. Pole Dance is a romantic suspense that really isn't suspenseful. It has similar elements to both Ashley's Sweet Dreams and Knight. A naive innocent heroine and a slightly jaded club owner meet and begin a relationship. The hero, Jack, wants the heroine in his bed and life. As Jack woos the skittish Caitlin, he is also dealing with a serial killer who is stalking & killing his dancers and trying to help Caitlin reclaim her inheritance.

Pole Dance is an enjoyable book with a solid premise that unfortunately doesn't quite deliver. The story and characters aren't developed enough. Everything, besides the sex scenes, has a certain vagueness to it as if Ms. Hornsbuckle wasn't quite sure where to go once certain plot lines and scenes were introduced. Rough editing and grammar permeates the story. Also, certain colloquialisms are used that made me cringe. Pink parts and bits? No woman over the age of 12 should call her vagina or breasts pink parts and bits.

But, regardless of the problems, Pole Dance have an appeal to it that keeps you locked in the story. The characters are good and show potencial of being better. One big plus for me was her characters didn't display the over the top behavior that some are famous for. The heroine doesn't talk in 'OMGSSSS' or breathless speak. She only squeees in the privacy of her own home. :) The men aren't insulting the heroine one minute and then wanting to screw her the next. Jack and Caitlin were pretty good together and when Jack made a mistake, he can actually say he was sorry and WANTED to talk about it. lol Plus, he drives a KIA. That just screams respectability. :P

Will I read the next in the series, Tap Dance? Probably. But my expectations will remain

LIKED IT

Caitlin Tomas is broke, she has no family to help. Her parents are dead, she is living from hand to mouth. At 22 and in college, she is determined to get her degree. Then while in class she overhears her lab partner Renee on her phone talking about her job as a pole dancer, and the money she makes. Caitlin thinks how hard could it be to do that, so after doing some research. Watching videos and practicing. She goes for an interview at the Fuego club. Expecting some fat and sweaty middle aged man to interview her. She was shocked to see Jake Stanton 6' 4" of gorgeousness. After a rather embarressing interview and audition. Caitlin realises she cannot do this, no matter how much money there is To be made. So she appologises and leaves. While trying to start her car, Jake approaches and offers her a lift. Little does she realise that this is just the beginning of having Jake in her life.

New author for me. Let me say straight away I really liked this. Yes it needed editing, but not enough to ruin my enjoyment. The author has real enthusiasm for her subject that shows in the writing. She is also a Kristen Ashley fan, Jake carries many of the traits of a KA alpha hero. I liked the two leads, Caitlin was determined and hardworking. She certainly isn't interested in Jake for his money. Jake has been a bit of a man whore in his day, but he recognises that he could have something precious with Caitlin.
With plenty of passionate loves scenes this is a hot read. There are a full supporting cast as well. With a killer on the loose, killing the dancers at the club. There's plenty happening in this. I will definitely be reading the next book in the series.

This book went from bad to almost decent then back to bad. The first couple of chapters are really rough. Caitlin is not very likable. Once it finally kicks over to Jake's POV, things improve a little and he was able to keep my attention for short periods of time but the sloppy writing detracted from even that small bit of enjoyment.

The repetition was beyond ridiculous. Pink parts/pink pieces/pink points was used 43 times. The sentences were long drawn out bits of awkwardness.

EX:
I felt older somehow, maybe wiser, after my foray into the darker part of society (although my mind screamed, 'You tried to be a Stripper!'), trying to get my paycheck from a sex-fiend ("Wanna tell me why you've got your fuckin' dick out?") the impromptu meeting with my mortgage holder in my home and all of it happening in the company of an previously unknown, hot, gorgeous champion.

There is a lack of understanding for the very basics of grammar in this one, like knowing the difference between your and you're or who's and whose.

EX:
Jake had just become very particular of who's creamy thighs were doing the cradling and if the cradler's mind and personality were enough to keep his interest after they had done the horizontal bump.

Then there are sentences like this...

EX:
Her hips stilled reaching, straining upwards on a low, keening cry.

Stilled reaching? And why are her hips crying?

I wasn't quite sure what to expect with this story. It was an enjoyable read but ultimately a bit forgettable. Oddly enough I kind of wanted to go and reread Knight after I finished this because of similar stories and characters. I felt that Ashley took a stronger stance so this was almost an appetizer for that one.

We have a young downtrodden but feisty woman who catches the eye of an older edgier man. There's mutual smittenness and hijinks ensue.

There were a few loose ends here that had me scratching my head:

If you like Kristen Ashley you'd get a kick out this one. It had some sweet moments and some hot moments but I found the thriller aspect a bit thin and unbelievable. Still I'll probably check out the second in the series to see if Marianne gets with the hot chief of police. Not sure if she deserves him though. ;)

ok...on the fence with this one. I wanted to rate it higher, but I just could not do it. There was a potential for a good story, but it fell short. The story line was "choppy" and I could not connect with the main characters.

The serial killer plot line was not fully explained....Like why? What was the motive? I figured out quickly who it was, but never explained the reasoning (was it jealousy? revenge? being scorned? why were the pages left? did those pages mean anything?) So many unanswered questions....and also did not explained the Hank story line. Felt like there was a lot of loose ends left wide open.

Finally, I can see the KA influence....or attempt to achieve that writing style. But, what I found most annoying was the "yeahs" at the end of each sentence.....got on my nerves :/

Yes, there were some editing issues, but not enough to distract from the story.
I enjoyed both lead characters. Caitlin was a bit naive, but not at all in a TSTL way. Just in a way that fit her character.
Jake was adorable (in a definite alpha way) and it was wonderful to watch how he expressed his love for Caitlin. He wanted to be better for her. I also loved his "Jake speak", yeah.
I did find the murder mystery plot a bit extraneous, but it does set up for more stories about the secondary characters and I am looking forward to those.

Yep, the author says she is KA fan and I can definitely see an influence. But she has her own style and it was an enjoyable read. And they do say imitation is the greatest form of flattery. Off to read the next in the series now.

I read the reviews before starting this one. I was prepared for.....a strong resemblance to the work of my favorite author, the Goddess Kristen Ashley (bow down), and I picked up on it quickly. Babe as a verb, darlin', shit sorting, lotta cake, not a fan of repeating myself, I fucked up, owe you big......I could link any of these phrases to more than one of KA's books. I wouldn't call the plot similar, more the hero's voice. Jake is a badass alpha male. He uses badass alpha male terminology. That badass alpha male terminology bears more than a passing resemblance to Tate Jackson, Tack Allen, Holden Maxwell, Lee Nightingale....I could go on. For those of us who know and love KA, it's easy to pick out her hero's voice.

That being said, this was not a bad book. Not at all. There was a PLOT.... and a SUB-PLOT. Chilling concept, huh? It was more than badass meets sweetheart, drags her to bed, ties her up, spanks her bottom red and pages of hot monkey sex ensue. Not that there wasn't hot monkey sex....but of the decidedly vanilla variety. Just so we're clear, vanilla is my favorite flavor. I get sick of kinky fuckery.....There was an emotional connection between Jake and Caitlin that started outside of the bedroom and became stronger once it got there, a natural progression I can appreciate.

Cait was a welcome change from some of the heroines I've read. She never displayed any of the TSTL tendencies that make me want to go all slap-a-ho (even Ka's heroines make me want to choke them from time to time). She's independent and smart and the perfect foil for Jake's alpha male tendencies.

I am not a grammar Nazi. I do not point out grammatical errors, comma splices, misuse and repetitive use of words or misspellings when reviewing a book, especially one by a self-published author. I read for enjoyment, not to grade your work. I will point out that this book, though, had very few grammatical errors. It was well-written, well-thought out, descriptive without redundancy and flowed well--especially for the first book of a self-published author. And--praise the Lord--the cover is both relevant to the story and actually matches the heroine's physical description.

There was a nice supporting cast and I look forward to reading their stories. There were a couple of plotlines that were not resolved to my satisfaction. I would have liked to learn how the crazies in this book got that way and what happened to them, especially the bastard Jameson. Also, uhhmmmm....a badass alpha male does not drive a KIA. A middle-aged salesman drives a KIA. Just sayin'.

See? Not a badass, alpha male ride.

But this......

All in all--yes, I can see KA's influence in the hero, but the plot was unique. This is not a Kristen Ashley book....but it was pretty damned good.

First read for me by this author. I'm aware she is a Kristen Ashley fan and you can tell because she includes some KA attributes to her hero. He says 'mouth babe, eyes babe' etc. The heroine also likes to take photos and frame them!! The epilogue is also rather long like a KA one.

However, the writing style is not the same. I enjoyed this story of Caitlin and Jake. Caitlin auditions for Jake at his Club but realises Pole Dancing is not for her. That is the only Pole Dance that takes place throughout the whole book! Someone is murdering the dancers from Jake's club, so we have a side story of a murder investigation.

I'm not always keen on love stories that happen within a week. As soon as Caitlin and Jake meet they are spending every waking moment together and declaring their love for one another early on. Even the epilogue is only two weeks later. I would have liked the story to have taken place over a longer period, but it's still a good story and I liked Caitlin and Jake.

I look forward to reading more from this author. If you are a fan of Kristen Ashley, I would imagine you will like this story.

POLE DANCE successfully captured my attention in the first few chapters, but as the book progressed, the characters failed to meet my expectations. I found that I got a bit bored with the story and just wanted to get to the end to know what was going to happen.

It was a little redundant and tended to drag. Good idea, poor execution. With some editing and character development and growth, this could be a fantastic story.

this is the worst book I've ever read... OMG I'm crying for reading this shit. I wasted my precious time reading this piece of trash, if you want to read this book DON'T even think about it... it was so confusing and stupid and cliche and I couldn't understand a word Jake said all I understood was "Fucking, Yo, shit " how can someone write like that? but most importantly, how can someone publish shit like this?

I liked this book but I wish there was more to it. The climax needed to be heightened as did the suspense. While Jake and Caitlins relationship was fun, it came off as a bit fake and rushed. Overall I would definitely read more by J.A. Hornbucjle but this book fell a bit short.

Let me just start by telling that the book was nothing like I expected it to be from its cover... So the saying "Don't judge a book by its cover" come here quite literally...

The story is about Caitlin, hard working, starving student, who overheard her friend talking about a job in a strip club, in which she makes a lot of money, much more money in one night than Caitlin does in her other jobs. So Caitlin decide to go for an interview in a local strip club....

.... that's how she meets smokin` hot Jake. However after few questions and going through her resume Jake does not want to hire her, but Caitlin really needs the job, so she decides to show him what she can do...and sparks start to fly!!!!

I heard Jake's bark of laughter.
Jake with no expression was hot.
Jake with a smile was mega-hot.
Jake laughing out loud at
something you've said--pulling you
close as his head falls back due to
the force of the laughter you've
caused?
Effing priceless.

Well let me just say that I absolutely love love love Jake. He is total alfa-male, he wants to take care of Caitlin and make life better for her. However he is not pushy and he does not have a problem by admitting when he really fucks up. In the beginning I did not like that Jake said words like `bout instead of about, because I like full words instead of half, but when he started to talk with his "yeah?" in the end of his sentences, ahhh I was melting...Yes, I totally love "Jake speak". Jake is definitely your next potential book boyfriend material, the way he talks and how he protects his girl and take care of her, ahhh what a guy....

I usually get really frustrated with female characters, but I surprisingly did not get frustrated with Caitlin and her decisions. I also liked that the book gave a little bit insight in Rams life or Dales, however the few stories does not made sense to me, like the bartender, I did not saw a reason for it to be included in the book, maybe only to show how awesome Jake is? huh....

Anyway, I love the book, it was hot (really hot),it was funny and it even had its own mystery you want to solve. I really enjoyed it and I definitely enjoyed Jake....
And I am really looking forward to reading Marianne`s story in Tap Dance, and seeing more of Ram ^^

"You caught a piece of my heart,
pretty girl, right there--right at that
moment." He glanced back up at the
picture and Cait had to strain to hear
his next words.
"And every time I was with you
after that, you'd catch a little more
and a little more until you had it all,
pretty girl."

This was a good book. It was written well and it flipped POVs from Caitlin to Jake very smoothly and very well. I think I didn't read the description well enough when I started this book, because for some bizarre reason, I was thinking that she was a pole dancer in his club. Not so. She interviewed. She auditioned. She caught his eye. She changed his life. But ultimately, she did not get the job! Ha ha! However, the pole dance scene was very hot and very sexy...along with the rest of the book. Jake and Caitlin are a great couple. Parts of this were a little too "I obviously can't handle my life, so take it all away" but she is young and alone, so I'll forgive that. She has an amazingly strong character to go through what she has gone through...I can't imagine existing on Ramen noodles 2x a day, working four part-time jobs, and going to school full-time with the requirement of a 3.75 GPA to keep the scholarship. I'd probably look into stripping too JUST so I could get some SLEEP! Chalk it up to too many Brad Pitt movies, but Jake's habit of punctuating every sentence with "yeah?" just put his dialogue in Brad Pitt's voice for me. Not that this is a bad thing...I actually find it rather sexy. I read this for sex in a twin bed as part of a scavenger hunt. Yup, Debb, you were right, I couldn't miss it! The twin bed debacle is a HUGE issue for them...one of the few as they really do seem to be so perfect for each other and Jake has no problem admitting when he has screwed up. So why three stars and not four? There was too much going on in this book. It was just a little too scattered with all the subplots. First there is the plot with Mr. Jamieson and his vendetta against Cait, the killings of the strippers, the weird dynamics between Jake, Dale and Sara, the staging for book 2 with Marianne, Ram and Paul, etc, etc, etc. And I really would have liked to have seen maybe a little more conflict or some kind of angst with Jake and Caitlin...just seemed a little TOO perfect and good to be true. But I did like it, it had lots of super hot sex in it, and the character development and relationship development was good...there are just other books I have read that I liked more that were four stars.
