Chance Hughes Series #1

The Second Option

Rate this book
Marine Sniper Chance Hughes was a born fighter, vowing to seek justice for his parents’ murder by terrorists. During his third tour of duty, Chance’s fight reached a new level as he was shot down by the enemy and held captive in an Afghanistan cave. Defying all odds, Chance survived the horrific ordeal, was rescued, and introduced to his new life as an assassin for a top-secret counter-terrorism team known as Off Grid Operations.

The lines of right and wrong, good and evil become increasingly blurred as Chance delves into his new life. Always strong, always tough, Chance welcomes the opportunity to kill more of the evil, cruel, anti-American thugs of the world. Haunted by tragic, violent memories, some of Chance’s most important battles are with himself. With his older brother, James, at his side, Chance hopes to be strong enough to keep himself from crossing the line from good to bad.

When the Hughes brothers are sent to Moscow to infiltrate a high-ranking Russian politician, Chance comes face to face with the reality of his future and must make decisions that clarify who he really is and who he wants to become.

This book came to me as a goodreads.com giveaway.Great book. Well developed characters and storyline. The author really drew me into the plot. Reminded me in the best way of Ludlum, or Clancy, but I felt more connected to the story. Highly recommend reading this book!

Let me start out by saying I came across this book due to Jen Naumann's posting about it on Facebook and I then purchased it because Lora Moore is a "local" author for me, which makes me very interested in it, regardless of content. That being said, I was absolutely blown away by how good this book is. The authors did an amazing job with character development as well as the plot line. There were times where I could feel my heart beating faster and me thinking no, please no. This novel is completely believable, these girls did their homework! I am so excited to read the second installment in this series and hope there will be many more to come. I could easily see "The Second Option" being made into an action/thriller movie and would be first in line to see it at the theater. I cannot say enough good things about this novel. I didn't want to put it down, but life and work required that I do so.

I just finished this book!!! I must say, it had me glued to it from start to finish. I haven't gotten a single thing done around the house for a few days now. I LOVED IT!!! Lora Leigh Moore and Julie Zuehlke you guys did a great job of writing this book. Seriously, there'd better be a continuation to these characters; I LOVED THEM!!! The quick one liners that the brothers throw at each other had me ROFLMAO!!

I.e. “Don’t ever underestimate a man who looks good in a Stetson,” James stated with a grin. “Someone said you looked good?” Chance shot back, feigning amazement. “Don’t you have to run off and save the world or something?”

AND MY ALL TIME FAVORITE LINE IN THE BOOK!!!
“I was watching Ol’ Yeller, bawling like a baby and doing a little house cleaning.”

OH PLEASE, let there be a continued storyline!!!

I normally don't read spy type novels, but so glad I took a chance on this one! It's an excellent read. The story follows Chance Hughes, a Marine, Sniper after being kidnapped by terrorists, then rescued by Navy SEALS. During his recovery, he's asked to join the CIA for a secret anti-terrorist mission. Although Chance is mentally and physically damaged from being held captive, he's a really likable guy, as well as his brother James (who is brought into the program to keep Chance in check). The two Hughes brothers have a great chemistry together and get into all kinds of mischief. I really loved this book and can't wait until the second book in the series comes out!

I won this book on GoodReads, but never received my copy. About three months after I won this book the publisher did re-request my address information and I did provide it, but still no book. Sadly, I have no review.
I have moved this book off of my to-read list and onto my read list, but with no stars. I hope this does not dissuade you from making it your own GoodRead.
