First Form Latin, by Cheryl Lowe (Middle, High School, and College)
It has never been easier to teach Latin than it is with First Form Latin. The uniqueness of this program lies in these features: 1. A text organized into five units that enables the learner to comprehend the whole in its logical parts. 2. A comprehensive full size workbook that provides 406 pages of exercises for each lesson, guiding the student through every skill needed for mastery. 3. A comprehensive teacher manual with key, scripted lesson plans, chalk talk, recitation and review guidelines, quizzes, test, final, flash cards, vocabulary drill sheets, and much more.
All of the techniques developed by Mrs. Lowe over the last 25 years have been incorporated into First Form Latin. First Form Latin is the first of a series of four texts that cover the entire Latin grammar at a pace that fosters mastery rather than frustration. This beautiful, concise, text of approximately 30 2-page lessons, visually and logically unfolds the Latin grammar before the eyes of the student, one doable lesson at a time. The First Form Series enables the parent or teacher with no Latin background to have a state of the art Latin program. First Form is recommended for students in grades 6 through college, but is also suitable for younger students who have completed Latina Christiana I. Optional DVD instruction makes First Form even easier.
It got the job done—but I’ll be moving to a different textbook for my students next year, Lord willing. Fine, but not great. A friend has recommended the Cambridge series. I’ll try that next.
