Readers of Sandra Brown and Laura Griffin are going to embrace the novels of hot new romantic suspense writer Ryshia Kennie.

An expedition into the Borneo rain forest is a once-in-a-lifetime chance for entomologist Garrett Cole. It’s this trip that could finally make her a star in her field. But when her team’s guide is found dead and headless on the banks of the river, Garrett’s dream trek suddenly becomes a nightmare. Lost in the heart of the jungle, she must fight to maintain her composure while leading a panicked team of scientists to safety.

When sexy and rugged Aidan arrives in the jungle looking as if he belongs, Garrett has no choice but to accept his help. But Aidan is more than she bargained for—a man of few words and fewer answers, as comfortable in the jungle as the mysterious native tribesmen. And as the days pass and passion flares between them, Garrett wonders if Aiden’s good intentions are just another of the jungle’s illusions.

In a land rife with predators and a killer still on the loose, can she trust the one man who claims to be their rescuer?

“Ryshia’s writing keeps you hooked from beginning to end. An original story line, believable characters and a great writing style. This book is a must-read.”

This is not the type of book I would usually read and I was hesitant to accept when Ryshia asked me to review it, however, I’m so glad that I said yes. I wasn’t keen on the first chapter of this book which explained what happened to the dead, headless guide but I kept reading and became hooked.

Ryshia’s writing keeps you hooked from beginning to end, constantly adding in unexpected twists and slowly revealing parts of the story. Ryshia creates characters that you can connect to and grow to love and puts them into a story like no other.

An original story line, believable characters and a great writing style, what more could you ask for? This book is a must read.

I received my copy of “Fatal Intent” from the author for my honest review.

Fatal Intent is a gripping romantic suspense that throws readers headfirst into danger, desire, and uncertainty. Ryshia Kennie wastes no time establishing high stakes, plunging entomologist Garrett Cole into the unforgiving heart of the Borneo rain forest, where scientific ambition collides with raw survival. The jungle setting is vividly rendered oppressive, beautiful, and constantly threatening making the tension feel immediate and relentless from the very first pages.

Garrett is a compelling, capable heroine whose strength lies not only in her intelligence but in her resilience under extreme pressure. The introduction of Aidan adds a simmering layer of mystery and sensuality, as his competence and quiet intensity raise as many questions as they answer. The slow-burning chemistry between them unfolds against mounting danger, forcing readers to question motives, trust, and loyalty. With its strong female lead, atmospheric setting, and expertly paced suspense, Fatal Intent delivers a thrilling, emotionally charged read that fans of Sandra Brown and Laura Griffin will thoroughly enjoy.

I obtained this free e-book from Amazon and I am voluntarily writing a review. When I pick a book to read I really try and commit to finish it but after reading 40% of this and still was having a difficult time following along and trying to make sense of the storyline and the characters I gave up and DNF. With a intimidating TBR list cannot waste any time on books put together like a jig saw puzzle and thrown in the air and stuck together.

A suspenseful story filled with twists and turns. There is murder, poaching, and betrayal with a side of romance. Savannah Cole leads a team of entomologists on a scientific excursion into the Borneo rain forest. After finding their dead guide, they try to get back to safety. Aidan discovers them and helps to get them out. Savannah and Aidan help each other through difficult times. I enjoyed the story.

Wow! Fatal Intent is a spectacular romantic suspense by Ryshia Kennie. Ms. Kennie has scored bonus points with this fantastic story. This book is well-written and has a stellar cast of characters. Savannah is leading her first expedition to find new insects and study them. When the guide turn up dead and headless, she knows they're in trouble. Aidan, an investigator, grew up in the Borneo rain forest and still visits when he can. Aidan and Savannah's story is cover to cover drama, humor, spice, action and edge of your seat SUSPENSE. I loved this book and look forward to my next book by Ryshia Kennie. This is a complete book, not a cliffhanger.

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

"Everything worth doing is frightening."

I have to say I had to read the first page three times to make sure I read it right. Yeah it starts out with a very surprising scene. It took me a bit to get into the first chapter and get acclimated to the jungle setting. But then it started to intrigue me.

Garrett is a female Entomologist leading a team to study insects in jungles of Borneo. Unfortunately, they are left without a guide. She is strong, a natural born leader, intelligent, and determined.

That confirmed it. These weren't men. They were useless. The only one with a set of balls in this groups was a woman. Interesting.

Aidan is a man who spends half his time in a larger city as investigator and enjoys communing with nature in his time off and revisiting his upbringing in the jungle and his step-father's Iban tribe. He sees only disaster in store for Garrett and her team and begrudgingly offers to help.

They were babes in the woods, at least one was. The others, mostly, from what he could see, they were just idiotic.

Aidan is aloof, quiet, at home in the jungle, closed off and harbors wounds from his past. He is not the friendliest face to meet in the jungle but they have no choice but to follow him.

He belonged in the jungle, yet the elegance and grace came from somewhere else. An enigma. Dangerous.

So it turns into a journey into the jungle, mysteries deepen surrounding crimes being completed in the jungle, suspense, danger, and action build, and a romantic connection develops.

I enjoyed Aidan and Rett. They immediately sparked off of each other with distrust, sarcasm and a clash of ideas. They tried to fight their connection, but their interest and chemistry builds and eventually they soften towards one another. They had reasons not to be together and felt like they were too different and their lives were too far apart. But as the journey went on it was obvious that their differences were not as great as they first appeared. I loved seeing the strong Aidan at his more vulnerable times. Rett was actually too strong for her own good and I wanted to shake some sense into her at times. You can feel the intensity between them and the need, but the sex scenes are not detailed and are more implied.

When they mate, they mate for life. Aidan had been talking about the hornbill. Yet the words had been so intimate. And she had dodged the implication despite an attraction like none she had ever felt before. She was so sure that it could never be. Now, she wasn't so sure.

She was everything he wanted in a woman and yet she didn't belong here.

Along the way we are also hearing a POV from one of the bad guys and I kept thinking that the author was giving too much away. But there was still enough suspense and surprises to keep it interesting.

Overall, I enjoyed the characters and the story line was unique and a departure from my normal read. It had murder, mystery, suspense, betrayal, action and romance.

Thanks to AToMR tours and Ryshia Kennie for providing me a copy of this book to read in exchange for an honest review.

Fatal Intent takes you to the jungles of The Borneo Rain Forest. The scenery is described as, "...Trees grew on trees, vines twisted through low-growing plants and climbed upward, seeming to cling to every living thing before reaching the tips of massive trees that grazed the sky as they formed the forest's canopy." (EARC, 190) As you can see, the descriptions throughout the book that, Ms. Kennie creates, are beautiful. They put you right in the middle of the rain forest. When I saw the cover of this book, I was drawn to the sexy passionate cover at first glance. I was looking forward to a fiery romance. Though it was not the main focus of the book, there was still a relationship that slowly developed into romance, and love.

Garrett, the main female character in the story, has her doctorate in Entomology. Her father is a part of the board at the university that is funding an expedition into the Borneo Rain Forest in the jungle. She is the only woman going on this trip, (the team lead) with 4 Entomologists, all scientists that are males. They are assigned to a guide, named Malcolm, who is beheaded and thrown down the river in the beginning of the book. This story centers on the death of Malcolm, and the investigation of who is responsible for this horrendous death.

There are many suspects throughout the book, from Chinese Poachers to Headhunters. Garrett is very serious about her field work, and wants to prove she can find an unclassified farming beetle, with a colony. To make her career a success, she must keep her expedition from failing, due to the ongoing investigation. She worries that there may still be a murderer out there, and the murderer might be coming after them next. This novel has a lot of twists and turns. There is conflict, and chaos among the scientists on this long, arduos journey.

Aidan is the stepson of Akan, one of the elderly tribal administrators, who make decisions about all the serious problems that occur in their domain. Aidan is educated, and is an investigator that lives in the city, though he always returns to the rain forest, whenever possible, to find his Zen. He is versed in all aspects of the Iban tribe, since he was a boy, and has keen senses, and intuition. Garrett and Aidan meet in the Rain Forest, and they are constantly locking horns at the beginning. They form an attachment, as Aidan helps her and her group to safety. Their relationship takes on a life of its own, until the attraction is undeniable.

I thought this book had a great amount of information, intrigue, interaction between characters, and insight. I would recommend this book to readers that love a good mystery, and love story combined. The characters were well-rounded, and there was a well developed plot. I loved the main characters, and the secondary characters were very crucial to every aspect of the storyline.

„So far everything was going according to plan, neat and clean without bloodshed, a perfectly civilized ending, just as he’d planned.”

So that's always the plan until something happens. And especially that in the midst of what is happening is Garrett ... and this time Garrett is a SHE.

Who said being a scientist and study bugs it’s just a boring and nerd thing will have the proof that they are wrong. Fatal Intent provides not only a suspense adventure, but also a love story with an ending potential ... possible ... probably ... happy.

It all starts in a big style, bluntly and in accordance with the environment in which the action takes place: in the Borneo jungle, the country of former headhunters. That means the country of those who behead their enemies or beheaded them. Cute, isn’t? Well, that the practice is no longer put in practice (:D) is not so sure anymore, and the danger of being caught by such hunters will always linger in the minds of researchers of the expedition team.

Waking up alone in the wilderness of the jungle, a very possible future prey for animals and people that inhabit the area, they are forced to accept the help of a very special native and apparently not very reliable one.

„Death, like everything, came easier with practice.”

The encounter between scientists and Aidan (the odd tribesman) will be mediated by Garrett – the expedition leader. The mediation will provide the opportunity for more special confrontations in which we’ll find a fine touch of humor.

This is the beginning of a game of cat and mouse, a discrete criminal investigation, lies justified or not that will have inevitable negative effects on, hidden kisses, betrayals, new victims and a keen reader for a happy ending.

The action is well paced and the author always gives you one point to focus on. One of these points is the scientists’ typologies who behave differently in crisis situations. These behaviors, although not the main focus of the line story, are well individualized and provide the necessary moments of humor, examples of human dignity, and helps in shaping the Garrett’s personality.

What blossoms between Garrett and Aidan is always influenced by their past and their fears. It always hangs between them the improbability of a lasting relationship that is not even known if it’s desired.

„He had learned early that feelings were often the net between death and safety.”

I liked the naturalness with which the characters’ relationship is described and how plausible the events link.

Even if you are not a fan of the suspense-romance genre you will discover that you have read the book with pleasure.

Garrett is finally getting to do what she has always wanted to do. Lead a crew on a scientif excursion in the Borneo rain forest. She thinks it will go smootly and they all will get to explore and hopefully find a new bug. Things quickly go bad when they find their guide killed and beheaded. Even tho she is shaken she has to hold it together and try to get her team to safety even if all they want to do is fight with each other. They soon become lost and night is closing in on the rain forest. Aiden finds them and follows them. He is looking for hunter who are killing monkeys and comes across the team and the body. While he is no stranger to the jungle he now lives in the city as a PI. When he reveals hisself to the team he at first acts like a savage as that is what Garrett thinks he is. Leading them to safety he tries to stay away from Garrett because he is attracted to her. As they journey to a villiage they soon come together but each ones past holds them back from trusting the other. Aiden is also trying to solve the mystery of who killed the guide. A mystery that may just shatter everything he knows.

I liked Garrett as a character. She has had problems in the past but is good at her job. Given the chance she wants to prove to everyone including her dad she can do this. Things are falling apart around her but she holds it together to keep her team going. She shows so much strength in this book. She is attracted to Aiden but fights her feelings for him. Aiden is amazing. You can see how he would fit into the city life and his job as a PI but you can also see he is one with the rain forest. As one of the team calls him a Tarzan. I would go thru the forest with this man. He fights his feelings for Garrett cause he doesn't want a relationship he thinks he just wants sex but you can see he feels more for her than that.

This book starts off with a bang as the body shows up. You really get to see Garrett's personality from the start as she keeps everyone going. The team is fighting with each other and you get to see a little about everyones personality by how they act and thru Aiden's eyes as he follows them. This adds a great part of the book seeing two different POV's. I really enjoyed reading this watching the chemistry between Garrett and Aiden play out, them trying to survive the forest and figure the mystery out. While I did guess who had done it I was still surprised on the ending. The author added some nice touches to make it a very good book. Anyone looking for a good love story with some mystery should read this. It made me want to visit the forest.

Garrett is our leading lady. She’s an Entomologist who has lead a group into the Borneo jungle to look for a certain type of beetle. She is a tough as nails scientist on the outside and knows that this trip needs to be completed in order to impress her father. Unfortunately, the group’s guide is beheaded and Garrett is left with trying to find their way out of the jungle, without leaving the body behind. Easier said than done.

Aidan is jungle-raised and feels more comfortable in a loincloth, holding a spear, than he does in the city where he lives. He comes back to the jungle to relish in the quietness for vacation. While following a group of hunters, he happens upon Garrett and her confused group. Since he is a private investigator, he is intrigued by the mystery of the beheading as his tribe no longer follows the practice. His main goal – find out who the murderer is and lead these people out of his jungle. Unfortunately, he finds himself falling for Garrett and doesn’t want to lead them out too soon.

Both Garrett and Aidan are closed off and that makes it really difficult for the reader to want to get to know them. So when it comes to their quick romance, I almost felt like it was just put in there to appease a certain customer. I felt like the romance didn’t have any basis. Yes, they are attracted to each other but they barely had a normal conversation. Not until after they slept together, that is.

Also, most of the secondary characters get no time at all in the story so for me, they were a waste of reading space. That sounds harsh but I didn’t feel like I even knew who they were really were and when one of them dies, I barely even knew who it was.

Take the romance out though and the story is interesting. The suspense was great! Normally, you don’t know who did it until the end…Ryshia Kennie tells us at the beginning. Then you go through the entire book wondering…did he act alone? I absolutely surprised by the ending.

With an interesting locale and a great twist, you won’t go wrong with this book.

I think Fatal Intent could be classified as a romantic suspense thriller, but I found it had a start with characters who were difficult for the reader to engage with.
Garrett is as harsh as her name, and though we are are told she has been raised by her father with a love for insects we never see a soft side of her. Although Ian warns that she has 'issues' she is in the jungle and has witnessed brutality, at the same time apparently falling in love, but still Ryshia Kennie allows her to be closed off, and the reader has no emotion with which to connect to her.
Although in the rainforest Aidan and Garrett's relationship seems built on lust, the author explores the fact the fear of losing someone can force heightened feelings to surface more readily, hence the rapid progression of their relationship. Yet, I did not feel that the chemistry between the two translated well from the narrative.
Aidan is an interesting character, whose history was slightly more open than Garrett's. I found it amusing that the author would choose to dress him in a loincloth, but then this allowed for several Tarzan jokes which lightened the mood!
Although we are aware of Aidan's Iban history and his place in the jungle I found him another emotionally closed off character; I therefore found myself feeling indifferent towards him, despite the events taking place.
The mystery starts when the group of entomologists Garrett is leading finds their guide shot and beheaded. Ryshia Kennie successfully writes a story full os suspense, and whilst the author has made the reader aware of who is responsible for the crime, we wait with baited breath for them to be uncovered by the group. I found this an intelligent ploy Ryshia Kennie and very refreshing.
I feel that Fatal Intent would be enjoyed by readers who like their romance with an extra twist, or who like their suspense with a little spice!!!

This is certainly a romance novel.

The romance in this book is just as hot and sweaty as the Borneo rainforest. In a beautiful setting for love, Garrett, strong, and independent falls without much effort for the jungle man, Aidan. And ditto for him. He walks soundlessly through the jungle in his loincloth and comes to her aid in her quest in find farming beetle, as well as to save her life.

The mystery of a headless guide washed up on the shore of the river pushes this story forward. The plot is predictable, as well as the killer, but the setting and history of the Iban is exciting and interesting. Kennie is a master at creating a setting that pulls the reader inside her story. Garrett and Aidan are good characters, well-developed, and a good match. Ian and Sid's banter was well-written and weaved throughout breaking the tension. Quite enjoyable. Some characters, however, seem unnecessary, and often faded into the background. Drew. Burke and Mark were often forgotten as being part of the group while trekking back to safety, and only seemed necessary for the one scene near the end. And some things, to me, were implausible like when Blue led Garrett into the jungle after realizing Aidan loved her. He did it because he thought that Aidan wouldn't stop looking for Malcolm's killer to please Garrett. But why wouldn't Blue know that if he'd look for Malcolm's killer for her, he would not stop looking for her killer? And not so sure how the title goes with the book.

I love the name Garrett, all the girls in my family that I've named have boys names. I'll certainly add this one to my list. An easy and quick read, Rennie knows how to write romance.

I wasn't exactly sure what to expect when starting this book. Set in the Borneo rain forest, Fatal Intent follows a research group of entomologists lead by Garrett Cole. Poor Garrett gets thrown into the leadership role when their guide is found floating dead in a river...headless. This is actually how the story starts out, with the group discovering the body. Lost in the unforgiving rain forest, Garrett must try and lead her team to safety. Enter sexy as hell, not so native, Aiden. Dressed in only a loin cloth, Aiden stumbles upon the team of scientists and immediately takes notice of not only the headless body they are dragging around but also Garrett, the beautiful blonde leading the team. Aiden is a private investigator in the big city but likes to come "home" to the forest to relax occasionally. He agrees to lead the team to the village and help figure out what happened to their guide. This book really was more of a mystery with a little romance on the side. The cover, while hot, is a little misleading because the story really centers mainly on the "who done it" aspect. The attraction between Garrett and Aiden is believable but I felt that it was a bit rushed. It took a while for me to get pulled into this one but once I got to about 20%, it got interesting. The writing style takes some getting use to because it is in third person and it sort of jumps around from person to person. If you like more of a mystery with a little romance then this book is a good one. It wasn't what I would consider "re-read material" but it was still a good book nontheless.

I really like the setting. From the descriptions given it was very easy to imagine the Borneo rain forest. The scenery, wild-life and native people were described wonderfully, and left me wanting to go to the jungle. The murder mystery part of the story was also very intriguing and kept my attention.
What I didn't like was the relationship between Aiden and Garrett. I didn't feel any spark between the two. Separately, I liked the characters. Garrett is a strong female, leading an expedition through the dangerous jungle. For the most part, she keeps her act together, and keeps more people from being killed while they are stranded in the jungle. Aiden is not native to the tribe, but he really fits into the jungle. He seems to belong more than some of the ones who were born there. He is jungle-smart, and when you first meet him he is wearing a loin-cloth. But when considering the two together as a couple they were dull and their relationship was really lacking romance and a good connection. The cover to the book is probably the hottest thing that happens between Aiden and Garrett. And they knew each other for a total of 2 weeks? Maybe 3 before he was talking marriage?
I would recommend this book to someone looking for the mystery aspect in a read, not someone who looking for a romance novel.

I received a free copy of this novel in exchange for my honest review. Garrett Cole, a sexy, smart, strong female entomologist. She leads her first expedition to Borneo with her group of misfit scientists. Their guide leaves them for a few hours telling Garrett where to meet him, he doesn’t arrive. The group believes headhunters are a thing of the past, only to be read in history books, so imagine their shock when they find Malcolm, their guide, washed ashore, headless! They’ve decided to follow the river and getting pushed away from it into the thick jungle. Aidan, the sexy Nordic, in a loincloth I might add, finds them (Can you say Tarzan?) There’s an instant connection between Aidian and Garrett. But seriously, who wouldn’t, he’s a sexy guy in a loincloth!

I loved this mystery, there are so many possible scenarios that could have led to Malcolm’s death, the truth was quite a surprise and not something I had expected. The sexual tension between Garrett and Aidan was just crazy. She was so independent and tried to fight the inevitable. This was quite the story, one that I thoroughly enjoyed. I appreciated the fact that the romance wasn’t the main focus of the book, the mystery was. It was interesting the mix of characters that truly had their own unique quirks. A great relaxing read!

I was not sure about this book from the blurb but I thought what the hell and gave it a go. So the story had strengths and some weaknesses.

I felt the chemistry but I was confused with the push and pull of Aidan and Garrett. At times it felt too fast and others too slow. There was predictability and the element of surprise.

But you can't go wrong when the hunk is just wearing a loin cloth through the major part of the book. LOL

This book was a quick read with an interesting story line which was definitely different than the normal contemporary books these days. There was suspense, mystery, intrigue, bugs, loss and love.

It was sweet in a quirky type of way.

It was nice getting to read a book set in such a beautiful yet extreme location with many many dangers. Can you imagine being with a group in the rainforest and then realizing you no longer have a guide?! I don’t know how I would react but I would hope I’d do half as well as the main character, Garrett. She was the rock for the group when they all knew there wasn’t much hope of finding their way to help.

This book has a good storyline and the mystery aspect of it kept me guessing up until the point where two major hints were dropped. I do have to nitpick just a bit though. While the storyline was good I was just a little disappointed with the book. I felt like I was just reading it instead of experiencing it. I didn’t feel the tension or the danger like I wanted to.

Overall Rating: 3.5 out of 5

This was a good fast paced story. It had a little bit of romance and suspense. It was definitely an unconventional type of love story but it totally sucked me in.

(Btw: Garrett happens to be a pretty hot little woman with a male name.)

Garrett, aka Rett, is the lead entomologist on an expedition in the Borneo rain forest. They find their guide dead and now need to get out and hope the bad guys don't find them as well.
Now enters: AIDEN. He comes to their rescue. It's up to Aiden to get this group of scientists to safety, find out who killed the guide, and decide if he wants to risk losing his head and heart over little Miss Rett.

What I liked:<:b>
1. I liked that the story resolved quickly.
2. It was easy to guess who the bad guys were pretty quickly.
3. There were no head games or angst.
4. The characters didn't play the cat and mouse love game.
5. The story ended with a good HEA.

Garrett is a Entomologist and is leading an expedition into the jungles of Borneo. the Problem is that Garrett is a woman scientist and is fighting to prove that she can handle jungle leadership.

She gets lost after finding their beheaded guide and is saved by a hunky blonde dressed in a loin cloth carrying a spear. His name is Aidan and he was raised in the jungle but now is a private investigator who lives in the city 6 months of every year and the jungle the other 6 to make peace with his soul.

After many trials and tribulations they fall in love and solve the murder of the guide. Tramping through the jungle they become prey for both animals and poachers.

I really enjoyed this book and would recommend it to others. Ryseha Kennie has crafted a believable story with a surprise ending that you just don’t see coming!

This was a very different setting for a thriller to those I normally read. The story takes place in the Borneo rain forest and while fundamentally a murder story with romance, what makes the story so good is the clash of cultures between the local natives and the typical western characters. They are on an expedition led by Garrett the heroine. She falls in love with Aidan, an interesting mix of local native and American.
There is a good mix of action and intrigue combined with the romance. The characters are well described and the writing style easy to follow. For me the great success is bringing the Borneo setting to life. I assume the author must have spent time in the jungle.
In summary this was a thoroughly entertaining read.

FATAL INTENT has all the makings of a romance, a thriller, and an adventure all rolled into one. This novel is non-stop action as a group of entomologists traverse the Borneo jungle in search of bugs, but when their guide mysteriously dies, they are lost. With the help of a local tribesman, they travel through the jungle. This novel sheds light on ancient traditions versus modern conveniences, friendship versus greed, and a romance between two people of entirely different cultures. This novel will keep you turning the pages!

It could have been a great story but I felt like I was always missing something. Not sure if this book is in a series or not. The dialogue was iffy sometimes....it just felt fake, there was no natural flow.

Ok for light reading. Generally predictable. There are days, however, when predictable is not all bad.

I actually liked this book better than I thought I would, read the reviews which weren't all that positive but read it anyway and quite liked it

I love a good suspense romance. It makes for a quick read that I couldn't put down.
