It could be a good thriller and have message that crime does not pay. Gulshan, Jagdeep and Sooraj hatch a plan to rob a rich woman. The plan goes haywire and they kill Her in the process unintentionally . There lives are fucked up and this leads to their downfall and death. Can No person get away from his upbringing and surroundings?


Jue ke mehfil is a short story which has SMP in it who give alibi of 4 gamblers. It an ok story and added bonus.

Pace of story is surprisingly fast and engaging. There is no unnecessary sub-plot. I was hooked from beginning to end even though I had an idea what's going to happen ultimately.

This was not whodunit thriller, we knew from the start who are the criminals and how the crime was committed. Its the story of how they were caught. Seemingly simple robbery turned into murder and death all around.

Usage of mix of English, Hindi and Urdu was refreshing. It was not like typical Hindi books where its either pure Hindi or something else which is grammatically wrong. Its' how people in India usually talk.

I by chance stumble over this book in library one day. Before that I didn't know about this author. How sad! He is such a prolific crime novel writer from India. It is said before Netflix and Prime, his books used to be the time-pass of India. There is certain nostalgia for me in this book as well. I used to read a lot of 'Manohar Kahaniyan' when I was younger, this story is exactly like one of those stories in the magazine, the good ones.

There is also a dog death in very first pages which is usually a deal-breaker for me but this death was woven in the story so well that you realize there was no other way to do it. I hate those stories where dog is just there to show cruelty of people and does nothing to else for the plot. So, even that death didn't make me take one star off of my review.

I gave it five star because it might hold some sentimental value for me, it reminded me of my college time when I was reading such stories. But other than that, story holds it's ground in its plot, characters and engaging factor.

I plan to read more Surendra Mohan Pathak in future.

In the starting I was very curious while reading this novel.But got to know the story earlier so from there this was just a story going on.
Overall good to read.

इस संस्करण में पाठक साहब के उपन्यास विश्वास की हत्या के साथ एक लघु कथा जुए की महफ़िल भी शामिल है। उपन्यास मुझे काफी पसंद आया और अगर आप रोमांच से भरपूर उपन्यास पढ़ने के शौक़ीन हैं तो आपको यह निराश नहीं करेगा। कहानी मुझे औसत से थोड़ी बेहतर लगी।
