As a lover of romance novels, Kiru wanted to read stories about Africans falling in love. When she couldn’t find those books, she decided to write the stories she wanted to read.
Kiru writes sensual stories featuring African characters whether on the continent or in the Diaspora. When she's not writing you can find her either immersed in a good book or catching up with friends and family. She currently lives in the South of England with her husband and three children.
Kiru is a founding member of Romance Writers of West Africa. In 2011, her debut romance novella, His Treasure, won the Book of the Year at the Love Romances Café Awards. She is the 2015 Romance Writer of the Year at the Nigerian Writers Awards and 2017 Author of the Year at the Ufere Awards.
As usual Kiru Taye's writing is perfect and Island Bound is a beautifully written novella. I rooted for Christy and Joshua the instant they appeared on the page together - it was so clear they were meant to be together. I'd be remiss if I didn't mention what a hot alpha Joshua was :)

Christy and Joshua should have had their African heritage brought out with the accent of their people. For them to have sounded just like Americans was a major disappointment for me. I did enjoy their story. I was caught up in the push and pull between them no valued Christy’s understanding of herself to know she could not hold out against Joshua. Although it was short you got a sense of Christy and Joshua as individuals and a couple.
This is the second book I have read by Kiru Taye and the second one I have enjoyed tremendously. Island bound is a romance novel set in Nigeria. A lack of communication and insecurities are the cause of the breakdown of Christy and Joshua’s marriage. Although their attraction is still strong, it is not enough to keep the relationship glued together, at least that’s how the Christy sees it. Joshua’s only aim is to save their marriage so he invites (blackmails) Christy into going for a vacation with him on Brass Island. Christy agrees to go only to obtain something she desperately wants from Joshua. Kiru Taye has a way with description that keeps everything in the mind’s eye without dragging out the story. I felt as if I was on the lush island with the characters enjoying the beautiful scenery. Kiru is an exceptional writer who has written a great romance.
This is a heartwarming and passionate tale of a marriage in trouble, and their struggle to find each other again. When his wife presents him with the request for a divorce after their three months separation, Joshua knows he has a fight on his hands.
Not prepared to let the woman he loves go, he convinces her to spend Christmas with him on the Island that holds precious memories for both of them. Does he succeed? Well, you have to read the book, no spoilers from me, but I was unable to put this story down.
The tension is palpable at times as you will these two on to their HEA. Beautiful descriptions of the surroundings add to this tale.
Simply lovely, as you'd expect from this author. Kiru never disappoints :-)
This novella tells the second chance romantic story of Christy and Joshua, two minor characters that featured in the first 2 books. In this story, after years of marriage, Christy is seeking a divorce from Joshua for reasons that aren’t quite clear to him. On her part, Christy feels betrayed after finding out that Joshua may not have married her for love but to get a leg up professionally. It’s up to Joshua to convince her otherwise.
I’m already resigned to the fact that this is not a romantic series you check out for likable protagonists. In this book, Christy was a little bratty but no more so than all the selfish heroes that proliferate romance before they are “reformed,” so I didn’t mind that about Christy. I liked the author’s approach to writing these characters. I did feel like this would have been improved by having some deep, complete emotional discussions and heart-to-hearts. There were so many opportunities where this couple could have opened up and exchanged and dug deep into some hard truths and they were to me, frittered away on unimportant tangents. I never felt like they had that deep, heartbreaking, complete clearing the air, exchanging hurts conversation that I think was needed, that would have added some emotional weight to this and enabled both Christy and Joshua to feel heard about their needs going forward. I worry that with a lot of things not fully said to each other, they’re setting themselves up for future doubt and misunderstandings. I also wish there had been a sappy epilogue to go with this, it kind of ended a little abruptly. But a sign of a good story is that I wanted more, so there is that.
That said, I’m a sucker for second chance married couples so I really enjoyed it. There is a bit of dub-con (dubious consent) but nothing too bad. Beware if even hints of that are bothersome to you. Recommend.
Bound to Passion was an interesting read. Christy wants a divorce from Joshua. Christy doesn't realize that she has a stalker and she wants what Christy has.
