Devon can do this. She can show up at her ex-boyfriend Josh’s wedding, even though he’s marrying her ex-best-friend. She can show everyone she’s happy with her fabulous life in Boston, her great career, her amazing shoes — and she can show everyone she’s over him.

Truth is, her life isn’t so fabulous. She’s just been downsized out of her job, her Jimmy Choos won’t pay her mortgage, and…she’s still heartbroken that Josh chose family over her. The real reason she’s enduring this wedding is that her next stop is nearby Greenbush Island, her last hope of finding a new job.

Josh knows marrying long-time friend Allie will make everyone happy after the rough time their families have been through, and since the woman he really wanted to marry chose her career and big city life over him—why not?

But the perfect wedding turns into a perfect disaster when Allie leaves him at the altar for another man. He never saw that coming! But hey, Devon’s there, offering to help him look for Allie on Greenbush Island, where he’d planned their honeymoon. Only, all they find there are their old feelings for each other and a temptation to risk their hearts one more time…

This book contains a firefighter hot enough to ignite flames, a woman who doesn’t want to get burned again, a honeymoon suite but no honeymoon, and sex not on the beach (sorry).

The angst here is like a papercut. The pain is there and it irritates, but it's regarded as trivial. There's no healing; it's just...forgotten. Because when such nice people betray you, it's really your own fault.

The hero and heroine were in a relationship in Boston when he had to move back to their small town to take care of his family after his mother fell into a depression. He asked the heroine to come with him, but she prioritized her career. Feelings were hurt on both sides and they broke up rather than try to maintain a long-distance relationship. Within a year, he was dating her best friend. The best friend called to ask the heroine if this upset her, and the heroine pretended it wasn't an issue because "things were over between Josh and me ages ago." (It hadn't even been six months!)

A little more than a year after the break-up, the heroine receives an invitation to their wedding plus another phone call from the ex-bff pressuring her to attend and expressing how bad she feels about this awkward situation: "I do feel a little...well, bad...I had the feeling you were hurt when Josh and I started dating, and I don't want to hurt you, Dev, really."

[The ex-bff's story belongs to another author in the series, so this book doesn't do a great job of dissecting her motivation, but it's clear to me that the ex-bff wants the heroine to object so she'll have an excuse to get out of this relationship that her family and friends have pressured her into during a time of grief. (Her mother had just died, which is what triggered the hero's mother's depression and necessitated his return home.) But instead of opening up to her friend, she's trying to shift the burden of responsibility onto the heroine. She wants out of her romance with the hero, but she wants the heroine to take the blame for the disappointment this would bring to their two families.]

The heroine ends up going to the wedding because she just lost her job and the hiring manager for the new job she's pursuing is staying at a resort near their hometown. Since she's going to be home chasing down this lead, she attends the wedding out of pride.

Then the hero is left at the altar when the ex-bff's ex-boyfriend shows up to kidnap the bride. And that's where the story begins.

Everyone in this little triangle makes bad, selfish choices that make it impossible for me to sympathize with them...or even like them. In the end, the narrative puts the bulk of the blame on the heroine's head: her led her to let the hero go then hide the truth of her feelings from her ex-bff. The ex-bff and the hero never have to grovel for the pain they caused because the heroine takes responsibility for enabling it.

To make it worse, we get this internal monologue from the hero at the book's conclusion, literally two pages from the HFN ending:

I'm also bothered by the fact that the title and the prologue put the focus on the hero being jilted by the ex-bff. It's the necessary set-up for the multi-author series, but it also highlights the fact that the hero would have married the bff if she hadn't abandoned him at the last minute. Nothing says love like a second-chance romance where the hero is only available because the OW publicly rejected him.

Also, yes. The hero had sex with the ex-bff after they became engaged. His thoughts about that contribute to my distaste for this "nice" hero: "He and Allie'd had a pretty good sex life. When they'd started dating, they hadn't rushed into having sex. It wasn't until they'd decided to get married that they'd agreed it was time they slept together. She was pretty and had an attractive body, and it hadn't been a hardship to sleep with her. It had been...nice."

As a kicker: the hero wants the heroine to be friends again with his ex-fiancée.

4 stars!

I love a great “second chance at love” theme, and Jilted by Kelly Jamieson gives this theme a fresh new look.

Devon is not having a good day when this book begins. She has just lost her job, the relationship she has with her father is on shaky ground, and she has just received an invitation for the wedding of her ex-fiancé to her ex-best friend. She is not planning on attending until she decides to follow a potential job lead that brings her back home.

Devon is still nursing a broken heart, and her feelings about Josh are obviously unresolved. The pain she feels about the wedding is apparent even though she communicates the opposite.

Josh is also starting to have cold feet about his upcoming nuptials. He has never forgotten Devon and regrets that life choices forced them apart.

Things take a turn when Allie’s ex shows up at the wedding and whisks her away leaving Josh and everyone in attendance in utter shock. Josh goes in search of Allie, and ends up at his honeymoon destination with Devon instead. This change of events leads the characters, and you as the reader, on a whirlwind of emotions.

The chemistry between Josh and Devon was awesome, and it helped that they had a past to authenticate their feelings. Given their past, obvious attraction, and a romantic honeymoon suite, the stage was set for a romantic reunion. The love scenes in this book are smok’in!!!

On a not so positive note, it drove me crazy how poorly Devon communicated her feelings with those she loved. It’s frustrating knowing that if there would’ve been one single honest and open conversation, so much pain, misunderstanding, and heartache could’ve been avoided.

Fortunately, Devon does have an “ah ha” moment when she finally comes clean with her dad and with Josh. It was like a huge weight lifted as the veil of misunderstanding was removed, and truth was seen and heard.

This is the first book in a 4 book series, and I have to admit, I am intrigued. Four different authors will contribute to the series and I am anxious to sample some different writing styles amidst the same setting and characters.

A great start to a promising new contemporary series.

While I really enjoyed the premise of this book the ending left a lot to be desired. There were just so many threads left open in this book. I understand that this is a series and it's going to answer each question like where is Allie and is she going to come back, and where and what is going on with Greta (Josh's sister) in each of their own stories I just thought we could have got a bit of a wrap up. I would have liked more of a conclusion between Devon and her dad and also with Josh. It kind of just ended with her revelation and didn't show the future or anything which I really enjoy a the end of the books I read. This book just ended very abruptly for me and unfortunately that negatively affected my overall outlook on the book.

I don't think I will read Allie's story because I already don't really like her. I mean okay she ran off on her wedding day and that's a dick move to someone you claim to care about but I was more upset with the fact that she dated her best friends ex-boyfriend. She was fully aware how those two felt about each other but she decided to date him and then get married to him in less than a year and asked Devon to be at the wedding. All of those things are just not okay in my book. Especially when she clearly wasn't in love with Josh, I think that makes it all the more worse.

So unfortunately for me my questions will remain unanswered when it comes to this series.

JILTED started off catching my attention. We have a groom standing in front of a priest waiting to get married and his bride is a bit drunk. Maybe because she’s not sure the wedding is the right thing to do. Then in comes her ex boyfriend to stop the wedding and carries her off.

Josh gets left at the altar by Allie who decides to leave with her ex Gavin. But then the whole town feels as if she was kidnapped and it’s so not like her to do this to her family, so Josh feels as if he has to go find her. I guess to make sure she’s ok. But Josh is not as brokenhearted as you would expect. He wasn’t 100% sure about the wedding himself and when he sees his ex, Devon, who had come back to town for the wedding, he realizes why. He’s never stopped thinking about her.

This is a cute small town romance story, so if you like those types you’ll probably enjoy it. As far as this couple goes though, they were just ok for me. Enjoyable but not memorable, mostly because I couldn’t really make a connection with the heroine. She’s so closed off for most of the book that by the time she opens up about her feelings and sees the light (and this was done way too quickly IMO) it was too late for me to care. She has issues because of her past. Her mother left her and her dad when she was young in search of a bigger and brighter life. And now Devon is basically doing the same thing.

Josh was the perfect mix between a beta and an alpha hero. Almost what a real life guy would normally be like, and this was refreshing and kept me interested. He loves Devon and is willing to put up with the pain she puts him through every time to give them a second chance. But I do think he should’ve made her work a little harder for it. They didn’t jump right into having sex, but it was a little too soon after him being dumped for it to work for me. Even if he didn’t love Allie, he still cared about her and was ready to marry her.

Besides all that, Josh and Devon are sexy when they are together. They are comfortable with each other, which is something you get to see only after a couple really knows the other. So all those aspects I really enjoyed. I would’ve loved to see more of the town and the people in it, so I can’t wait for the next book to explore more. Small town romances always have an appeal to me!

IT WAS OKAY

When I read the synopsis I thought this might be a fun read. I didn't think that after Josh had dumped Devon that he would go home and start a relationship with her best friend Allie and then Allie would have the nerve to invite Devon to the wedding. But that's exactly what happens. Devon isn't going to go to the wedding, but she's just lost her job and there's the possibility of getting another with a guy whose staying not far from where the wedding is. So she decides to go. On the day of the wedding Josh gets jilted by Allie who leaves him standing at the altar while she walks off with another guy. It's then that Devon and Josh team up to go look for Allie the runaway bride.

If this had been a romantic comedy I might have liked it more. Unfortunately it's not. I just couldn't get my head around the fact that Devon had been dumped by Josh he'd then gone back to their hometown where he'd hooked up with Allie, he wasn't heartbroken at being left at the altar. So why was he marrying her. It seems Josh was all about putting everyone else first except himself, which while very noble he seems to have overlooked that he'd hurt Devon very badly while doing so. As for Devon she was so blinded by her love for Josh, she couldn't see the wood for the trees. Overall I didn't like any of the characters very much.

I’ve been salivating about this series since I first saw it listed on the publisher’s website several months ago. I’ve read three of the four authors involved with this series extensively so I have very high hopes for an interesting and entertaining series. I waited not so patiently until I got my ARC of Jilted, the first book in the Promise Harbor Wedding series, but it was so worth the wait. Promise Harbor is destined to be one of those towns that everyone wants to either visit or live in; it’s quaint, the residents are nosey but will meaning, and life just makes sense there. I have a feeling it’s a place where hearts heal; new beginnings happen, and love conquers all even for those who think they don’t want it. While Jilted is the first book in the series, there are three more to come so make sure you check back for reviews on each of these stories as they are released!

Could you attend the wedding of the ex-love of your life to your ex-best friend? Although it might kill her, Devon plans on doing just that if nothing else to show everyone how fabulous her life is. Truth is though, her life is far from fabulous and attending the wedding is mainly a pit stop on her way to track down a lead on a possible job. When she returns home to Promise Harbor she doesn’t expect to find her father dating, the bride being carried out of the church by her former lover, and her offering to help the intended groom search for his bride. She sure as hell didn’t expect to end up spending a week on an island with her ex-boyfriend in the honeymoon suite!

Josh was already having second thoughts about marrying a long time family friend, but when she’s carried off during their ceremony he really doesn’t know what to think. When his ex-girlfriend offers to help find her, he’s equally confused. When he invites her to spend the week with him he starts to question everything he’s done over the past year and wonder if he made the biggest mistake of his life.

There is just something special about second chances as both Devon and Josh both soon realize and along the way they discover so much more about each other even after all the time they spent together before their break up. What surprised me most of all is how much baggage these two have been carrying around but never shared with each other. I hurt so much for Devon and how even as a small child she learned to just put on a brave face and pretend everything was fine. I can almost see her stubborn chin and resolute eyes. I hate that she felt so abandoned but I also admire her for her strength, dignity, and courage. Josh was equally admirable taking on far more as a teenage boy and then making a difficult choice he felt he had no choice but to make. Because he is such a “white knight,” I’m a little surprised he didn’t realize the effect his actions would have on Devon. However he was stressed, so I’m giving him the benefit of the doubt because he’s just too yummy not to like.

Things that made me flat out love this book; even though Devon and Josh had a previous relationship they didn’t immediately jump back into bed together, they both did a lot of soul searching and they both realized the mistakes they made both previously and currently, Devon finally make peace with her past, Josh was willing to change his life if necessary, and they both realize they need to communicate better. It was also pretty special when they both realized that sex shouldn’t be “nice,” it should be freakin’ fabulous and you shouldn’t settle for less.

Jilted is the perfect start to what promises to be an entertaining series. We get several hints as to what we might see in the next three books and I say, “Bring them on!” It’s never easy to go first at anything, but Kelly Jamieson took on this role and showed us again that she is a gifted storyteller. Her characters are flawed but evolving, the story moves at a decent pace without feeling rushed, solutions are believable, and best of all we know there’s more to come in Promise Harbor!

"You've known Allie forever. You love her. You love her family. They love you. Your mom is thrilled to pieces about this. The whole town is behind you on this. There's nothing to be afraid of. You two are going to have a long and happy life together." ~Jackson

Wow, that's a lot for Josh and Allie to live up too. Especially when they are both in love with other people. And that's what makes Kelly Jamieson's story so great. How does everyone work through this? Allie and Josh have been thrown together through circumstance, love, and admiration (not necessarily passion). Unfortunately they have the whole town supporting a marriage that they, themselves, aren't so sure about.

"Josh?" she asked as the song finally came to an end.
"It's okay, Allie," he whispered. "Let's...just do this."

Luckily for Josh and Allie, Devon and Gavin came to let them know that not everyone was as excited about the wedding as the whole town. Devon was a little more subtle than Gavin. :)

Jilted is about Devon and Josh.

Devon and Josh are one of those couples that I love to read about. Despite all odds these two found each other again. Their relationship had ended without closure. One felt they just weren't good enough. The other believed that people not loving them was just par for the course.

Then there is the Allie situation. Why on earth would Allie and Josh start dating to begin with? Was Josh just an a**? Did Allie betray her best friend? It would be easy to blame Allie for everything, but we don't yet know her side of the story. But we do have Josh's side:

"People were pushing us to do it. It seemed like a good idea." He lifted one shoulder. "I've always cared about Allie. We grew up together, we both went through our family stuff together, we were both...alone. But I can see now it was never going to work."

This leads me to believe it had nothing to do with betrayal. If Allie and Josh betrayed anyone, they betrayed themselves.

Josh and Devon soon become honest with each other and themselves. Through that, you will laugh, cry, and need a fan to cool down from the steamy scenes.

I love Kelly's voice and truly love when she works humor into her stories. Kelly wrote a story that was full of emotion and love and we are left with a several little mysteries. Where is Allie? Where is Greta? What's going on with Josh's mom and Allie's dad? I look forward to reading the rest of the series to find these answers out.

All the dumb "Meep" "Jeebus Crust" "oh, fishsticks" "holy fishsticks" annoyed the hell out of me. When you add all of them with a long time best friend and ex boyfriend getting together and not realizing that how crappy that is. AND the the BFF basically rubbing the wedding in the h's face I really wasn't fond of this book.
Honestly, even though I have the whole series I really doubt I'm going to read the bff's book, I don't care what happens to Allie. She seems thoughtless, uncaring and self serving.

"Jeebus Crust"... To be completely honest I couldn't stand reading more than 6 chapters with my full attention to the story. I just skimmed through the rest of it.
Flat and unimaginative writing style, a plot that couldn't hold my interest and a main heroine that managed to annoy the hell out of me from the very first chapter.
"Holy fishticks" I think there are far better wedding themed stories out there...

Kinda lame. My heroine never really lays into the hero for banging her best friend. She's more angry at her friend. I don't know. You could forgive them both, but why does he get off scot-free. I felt the author didn't address what would otherwise be a pretty important problem between two people who were trying to reconcile. Boo.

Devon hasn’t been having the best month. She’s just lost her job, she’s got an apartment in Boston filled with designer shoes that she can’t afford, and her former best friend is marrying the love of her life. Devon has no desire to return to her hometown for Allie and Josh’s wedding, but doing so will enable her to put on a good front before she heads to nearby Greenbush Island to follow a lead on a job. But her short stop in Promise Harbor takes an unexpected turn when Josh is left at the altar and he turns to Devon for help.

For the past year, Josh has put his loved ones’ happiness in front of his own, which is how he winds up at the altar, all set to marry his longtime friend, Allie. Only instead of being married to a woman he cares about, Josh finds himself jilted. He may not be heartbroken, but he is concerned about Allie, and he’s determined to look for her on Greenbush Island, where they were supposed to have their honeymoon. When he asks Devon to help him search for Allie, Josh knows he’s playing with fire. Devon broke his heart once, but he’s still not over her. Could Josh’s disaster of a non-wedding actually be what leads him to happiness?

Kelly Jamieson kicks off the multi-author Promise Harbor Wedding quartet with the fast-paced Jilted. I really liked the premise of the story, but I felt like the book ultimately fell short of the mark, thanks in large part to Josh being overly perfect, Devon’s character never fully coming alive for me, and the overuse of the distracting phrase “Jeebus Crust” (though I do recognize that the last element may not pull other readers out of the story like it did me).

What I really liked about Jilted was the dynamic between Devon and Josh for the first half of the book. Ms. Jamieson did a great job of showing how natural the two of them are as a couple, while adding a healthy dose of realism in the awkwardness of two exes thrown together in an unusual situation. Since much of their relationship is based on their shared history, I do wish we’d seen a bit more of said history to get a better sense of them as a couple before the sexual tension between them caused them to hit the sheets, thereby throwing the romance plotline into high gear. I never got the feeling I understood why they were in love, other than being told they always were.

Jilted isn’t a bad book, but I’ve read other stories by Ms. Jamieson that I’ve liked a lot more. That being said, even though Jilted wasn’t for me, I’m still looking forward to reading the rest of the Promise Harbor Wedding series.

Ok, so ummm this book was a kind of roller coaster.
Until page 115

And then

The sex "scenes" were so hot! I even learned a new technique! But suddenly:

THE END

The end was so bad...It wasn't even an end, I mean what happened with Allie? what is Devon going to do with her life? That live-the-present-because-we-love-each-other-and-that's-all-that-matters is so bullshit.

Very well written book. Could have been chick lit except for the HEA ending.
h was amazing and the book was all about her facing her mommy issues and being brave enough to face her worst fears and being vulnerable.
H ..meh..he was hot and good in bed but...he's pretty much someone who goes where life leads him; definitely not a master of his own destiny.
But if it were me I'd never trust the best friend again. She had to have known h's feelings and still went and dated the H. Talk about being selfish! And disloyal!
I didn't really believe that they would have a happy forever after, after all the H pretty much showed that out of sight out of mind holds good when it came to his feelings for the h.
But still he was what the h seemed to want so guess I was happy for her.

OMG! Squee! I loved this book and you can bet that I will be reading more of Ms. Jamieson and I can't wait for more from this series.

"Wanna take this dress off you." he murmured, rubbing his nose along the side of hers. "Want you naked. Under me. Around me."

Holy crap! I was in the tub reading this and I shit you not, I turned on the cold water. Josh is so frigging hot in this book. Once the both of them pulled their heads out of their asses- it was on like Donkey Kong! I liked that after they admitted what was still going on between them, there was a minimum amount of drama and obstacles between them.

Ready for more from Ms. Jamieson!!!

Four and a half stars.

Devon's back in town for her ex Josh's wedding... to her (former?) best friend Allie, and so she's got a front row seat when Allie's ex stomps in and interrupts just as they are about to exchange vows. In the ensuing mess, Devon and Josh end up spending time together and realizing that neither was happy with their breakup or their lives in the meantime.

Ms Jamieson writes a beautiful (and hot!) reunion/second-chance story, and gives us enough changed circumstances/changed hearts to see that Devon and Josh are ready to make a real go of it this time.

Looking forward to the rest of this Promise Harbor Wedding quartet!

Jilted is the story of a hot fireman who get left at the alter. Literally. Left. At. The. Alter. His bride is standing next to him, when another guy, Gavin, shows up, picks her up and waltzes right out of the church with her.

Josh stands there, dumbfound (I mean, who wouldn’t be right?). Then he goes after her only to have no idea where to look for her. Devon, his ex-girlfriend and his ex-bride’s ex-best friend, helps Josh look for her.

Confused yet? Don't be. It’s actually pretty straightforward.

Josh and Devon enjoy a week together, in the honeymoon suite Josh was to be in with his new wife. Over that week they grow closer together again. But what happens when they go back to reality?

I really wanted to like this story. I loved the premise. The mixed up, what in the world is going on premise. But it fell a little flat for me. I was annoyed with Devon through most of the book. She was sneaky and underhanded. I know she has mommy-abandonment issues, but that doesn’t excuse the sneakiness. Josh, bless his heart, just let it go. He was jilted by one fiancé, just to be used by his ex-girlfriend. He just let it go? Saint? Nope. Martyr.

I was hoping for more from this story. Two-star crossed past lovers reconnecting….fabulous! I just couldn’t get past Devon’s sneakiness and Josh’s ability to forgive anything.

I received a copy of this book for free in exchange for an honest review.

Jilted is my first by Kelly Jamieson. I liked the connection I had with characters but too bad the connection between characters isn't that strong. Besides, I felt something missing in this book. I think its on Allie's part and some others might as well, it's just that I don't know what. Anyway, the story isn't that bad but I'd love it if it were as interesting as the blurb.

The excerpts of the upcoming books in this series were interesting though. Especially Book 2, I found it funny and somehow adorable cute meet. I just can't wait to get hold of it and I hope it's going to be a good read. And the rest as well.

Another thing I found intriguing is that this series has different authors. So it'll be different minds, different writing styles. I am so looking forward to read theirs!

Read on your own peril.

This had everything that I love in an angsty read. Hero leaves, marries (almost) another woman for family duty. Blah, blah, blah. Unfortunately the writing lacked depth and the heroine took the blame for everything. Eh, good intentions and all that. It was technically well written, but it left a sour taste in my mouth. I don't know how this ended up on my kindle, but if I bought it.....shame on me. YMMV

This is the 1st book in the Promise Harbor Wedding Series. The next books in the series are written by other authors.

Sometimes dating and life choices are put into a difficult balance. And sometimes you just have to make a leap of faith and choose the man over a career. Of course, if he is absolutely incredible in bed, like Josh, the choice should be easy. Did I mention that he is a fireman?

Be prepared when you read this book, you should have a bottle of Zinfindel on hand! And a hot guy.

Josh is a really good guy and you basically have to root for him. The lead woman wasn't as likable for me, considering that she was the one who wasn't honest about why they broke up and then wasn't honest about her feelings towards her friends dating and then USED him to get closer to a hiring manager she was trying to track down. Made her fairly irredeemable in my eyes.

This is the first book I have read by this author and it was part of the Promise Harbor Wedding bundle.

I don't think I've cried so much with a book in a while but this story got to me. The torment in Devon's heart and mind were easy to identify with and Josh's issues were understandable. I was happy with the conclusion and I will definitely read another book by her.

Devon merece algo mejor. No tengo idea como perdonó a Josh, osea el tipo ni siquiera lucho por ella e inmediatamente empezó a salir con su mejor amiga. Tal vez si él y la amiga no hubieran tenido sexo hubiera sido diferente.
