3.5 Night Stragorri is a Hunter and next in line to be King of the Hunters, he is a Stragorri. It is a prestigious title to be this kind of killer. The Hunters are there to protect humans from the paranormals, to keep them safe. At least that is what the intent of it was supposed to be. Night isn’t so sure anymore. He leaves the emotionless, brutal world of his family to strike out on his but he is unable to leave the Stragorri Hunter legacy. He must continue to kill those the Hunter Council deems dangerous or be killed himself. It reminded me a lot of “they made me do it” as he is rationalizing how he has no choice but to blindly follow orders and kill.

It is at this time, just after a kill, that he enters a shifter bar and finds Akira, a were-panther. Akira, oh my I loved him. Lip piercings, dark purple and blue hair, purple eyes, he is just lovely. Akira has a bad past in terms of the Hunters and yet he is still a sweet and basically happy person. Akira performs an act of kindness for Night and Night is faced with feelings, probably for the first time. He is also fun to read. He begs himself not to hump Night’s leg, begs God to not let him get a hard on in front of Night, purrs and growls.

The Pack is not sweet. At least, the Alpha and his rules? It is almost understandable why humans fear them. Akira doesn’t answer Alpha’s mental call immediately? He is whipped (with a whip) until he is bloodied. He makes the Alpha wait for a few minutes on his Mating Moon night? He is punched in the face. He has a mate but it’s mating moon? Well, the mate better win because otherwise he can be given to whoever wins, even if that shifter has already backhanded him publicly for no reason. I did not like the Pack rules. Alpha claims “my little Akira” but his actions seemed to show otherwise. The fact that Akira could be given to someone (even if only for 48 hours) who will probably abuse him based on behavior, but won a fight, did not sit well with me. It all seemed very, for lack of a better word, animalistic. The Stragorri, who mate only for reproduction and power, were no better but it was at least expected from them!

This was a solid four for me except I felt the end was too easy, too simply solved. That could have been a major plot point and it was quickly over. That was a little disappointing but all in all this is a good beginning to a new series. I am eager to see what happens with the Stragorri in general and with Night’s new life particularly. Recommended for shifter fans.

Mating Moon is the first book in the Be-Were series by Lexi DeHalo. Night Stragorri is a Hunter. A Hunter who falls for a were-panther and if he’s found out he’ll be banished from his family.

Akira Landers is a sweet, compassionate man who takes in Night and cares for him after the Hunter becomes tired of his profession. The two grow closer, fall in love and Night has to decide: his family or his new mate?

Mating Moon had an unique twist with traditional enemies falling in love with one another despite many obstacles. I loved the character of Akira, whose purple/blue hair and piercings made him a fun character. Night, was more subdued, but he grew on me. What I didn’t enjoy, although the world building was excellent, was how the pack was run. There were definite dub-con elements in the story as on the night of Akira’s Mating Moon. In this world, the person who catches and claims him wins Akira. It was very Hunger Games-ish and the fact that Akira could be hunted down and raped into mating wasn’t my cup of tea. Nor did I enjoy the whippings or beatings by the Alpha of the pack that seemed normal occurrences in this world.

So, while the writing was good, the plot engaging, my own personal reading tastes made this less of a 5 Diva read. However, other fans of the paranormal genre who do not mind a more violent and somewhat dark-ish story will enjoy Mating Moon, I have no doubt. Recommended for the not faint-of-heart shifter fans.

This is the first book I’ve read by Lexi DeHalo and it definitely won’t be my last. I really enjoyed the unique world she created for her shifters in this book and her creative storytelling ability really kept my attention throughout the story.

Mating Moon is the first book in the Be-Were series and it definitely started it up with a bang! I was immediately swept up into these characters lives and enjoyed watching these two men really work hard to be together. Their love is a forbidden one. Night is a hunter who is assigned different shifter marks to kill. Akira is a panther shifter whose brother was killed by a hunter. When they meet, there is an immediate attraction that sizzles between them. Both men are confused by these feelings because they are supposed to be enemies, not friends and certainly not lover or mates. But as they get to know one another, they can’t fight fate or the pull of their intense feelings for each other.

The author did an outstanding job at really capturing the conflicted emotions these two men go through as they’re working through their feelings for each other. One of the things I loved about this book was: once Night decided that Akira was definitely the man for him, he would fight through hell and back to have him. I liked how these two heroes worked hard to have a life together. They have to work through a lot of obstacles, but once they do, the end result is very rewarding.

Also, I loved the interesting, well-written world Ms. DeHalo created for her characters. I thought the story in general was a fresh take on a well-used storyline. I know I can’t wait to read the next book in the series! Mating Moon is a beautifully told, fast-paced romance with characters that live and breathe off of the written page.

A breath of fresh air, a different enough world of paranormals to be enjoyable. Hunters, Weres, vampires and I’m sure more creatures to be revealed, Ms. DeHalo does an amazing job of building a unique world.

Akira is a great character. He’s fun from the very beginning, I loved the way he took a chance on Night when most others in the world would have stayed as far from his as possible.

Night is a Hunter in crisis, he’s questioning the status quo when he meets Akira. Fate takes it from there, they obviously like each other and don’t want to keep their hands to themselves and fate makes sure they can stay together. I loved Night and his struggle to find himself.

All in all, it’s a great new series that I plan on following closely. The second book is already out and I’m excited to read it. I want to know more about this world and the many facets that the author has revealed, and the many more I just know are waiting to be revealed. I recommend this story for fans of M/M romance who like a well-built paranormal world for the characters to play in. Ms. DeHalo is definitely an author to follow and watch to see what she does in the future!

I bought this book with my own money. I was not compensated for my honest opinion.

Not really sure what to think about this.. I originally picked up because book 4 sounded good and didn't want to start in the middle..

This world is different.. heck even mating is different. Destined mates do not always end up together. Weres have a mating moon, and if a 'competitor' wins the challenge, they get a chance to forge a bond with the intended. It is left up to the intended weather accepts challenger over destined mate..

Ok, stepping back.. this is rough sex play with biting and kind of just shoving home (even with lube) So that right there would be a concern for me. Plus MCs tone for the book was not set at the beginning for me. Get the impression of Akira being dominant like, with Night being uneasy and unsure even though he's a Hunter/killer. Then Night takes on a dominant role with their first intercourse.

Glancing at the rest of the series looks to include more of the rougher side of sex and the way mating works I've lost interest in pursuing the rest.

This is book 1 of the Be-were series. As usual I began backwards and had read the third first, causing me to start at the beginning, since I fell in love with the world and characters and had to catch up. I adore the series title Be-were!

Now for a quick rundown on this book. Night is a hunter and is the heir to title of king of the Stragorri house. Hunters have special magic and have been bred to hunt the paranormal and protect the humans. Night unlike most hunters has a heart and a conscience and feels that his family isn’t being truthful and some of the kills are not justified. Night wants things his kind doesn’t, he is tired of being alone and hated and feared but if he ever tried to quit he would be the next on the list.
Akira is a were panther and lives in a pack of misfits that are mostly wolves but Jared has taken in others such as Akira. Akira is happy in his pack, since his Alpha is just, but Akira being very submissive wants a mate that loves him not just to use him for sex then toss him aside when they get bored, or to be a side fling for a gay wolf that has to mate a female to breed. He wants a mate of his own, that loves and cherishes him for himself not his sexual talents. (Don’t we all?)

Ah poor Akira. I sure can relate to him. Though he is by far not my sort of man, I fell in love with him instantly. He is small, and punkish, but by no means a coward or weakling. He is full of fire and heart. Then Night walks into the club to eat.

Now Night is my kind of man tall dark strong with lots of secrets, and not seemingly the nicest man around. Chemistry flows immediately between the two and the story is on!

This is a great story set in a fantastically built world of humans and other beings. There is plenty of intrigue and mystery. Lots of action and plenty of very hot mansex. There was one small issue I had with the story but I can’t tell since it would be a spoiler, but perhaps that question will be answered in the next book anyways, and since I have it I will soon find out.

I highly recommend this to anyone that like a unique world of supernatural, Vampires, werewolves, and other types of mystical beings, mystery suspense and really hot man-sex. Yes this has a bit of everything!

Little darker than I usually like my reading. Good storytelling kept me interested in the outcome. Not sure if I will read the rest of the series though.
It's an interesting new world of weres, vampires, and Hunters. But I really don't like the were's mating practices. Forced mating on their 300th full moon(which I calculated to be only about 23 years old), with the possibility that even if they had already met their destined mate they wouldn't be able to stay with them, basically be stolen by that forced mating ceremony.

The starting point into this new series is well written and enjoyable enough. I liked both main MC's, Akira was spunky, comical and warm. He made me laugh a lot, I liked him because of it. Night was a fine, warrior type, but in general, he was to bland. The main storyline was good, but I'm sure it could be better.

Different from a lot of shifter books. For once instead of the mate bind being final in this series it can be challenged and broke which I found made it a lot more interesting.
I'm looking forward to the next in this series.

Few chapters were good. Then it becomes weird. Mate but not mate? I became confused. Why with the Hunter & were named basis? Dissatisfied.
