Marked by the Alpha

Rate this book
Dani had always been a lone wolf and she had no desire to join a pack, but that didn’t matter to a true alpha wolf like Mason Daniels. When he finds out that human hunters have been threatening Dani, he puts his mark on her.

Unfortunately, the hunters are foolish enough to disregard his mark, and Dani is captured. After Mason and his pack rescue her from certain death, Dani is given no choice about joining Mason’s pack for her own protection. She soon learns that Mason is fully prepared to spank her bare bottom as often as is necessary to teach her to respect and obey him.

With more hunters closing in and the pack under threat, Mason begins to realize that he must claim Dani as his mate for life—whether she likes it or not—before his need for her drives him mad. At the same time, she is forced to learn her role in the pack and come to terms with her instinctual need to submit to Mason as her alpha and her mate.

Publisher’s Note: Marked by the Alpha is an erotic novel that includes non-consensual spankings, anal play, graphic sexual scenes, and more. If such material offends you, please don’t buy this book.

Marked by the Alpha is a pretty good book for a first time author and I will definitely watch for other stories by Adaline Raine. I enjoyed reading about Dani and Mason and the spanking component was well done, but I had a lot of questions about motivating factors and quirky behaviors that were never fully explained. The conduct of Mason's pack was incongruous as sometimes members were oddly affectionate toward one another, while other times they were brutally blunt and prone to bouts of unexpected rage. With no explanation as to their extreme swings in behavior, it felt like I was just reading about a series of events happening to Dani and Mason. I couldn't fully connect with either character to really understand why they acted the way they did. Alisha, Phil, and Portia also provoked many questions as small details were provided about them and then never elaborated upon. And a specific question is why were hunters even after them in the first place? Were they after lone wolves like Dani or targeting whole packs? Is their intent to torture, experiment on, or eradicate the wolves? Hopefully a follow-up novella is in the works and Ms. Raine will provide answers to some of these questions along with more motivating factors that allow us to better understand the characters' rationales. Overall though, this is a good debut and I do recommend giving it a read.

A good quick read. I have to say I find it funny when we have a clearly Dominate Male who is strong enough to be a alpha of a pack. And can be brought low by a slip of a girl well ok a dominate wolf herself. This was fun and I enjoyed the pace and the story line. All I could have wished for that is was longer. Mason is shocked by Dani reaction to Him you can almost hear Him say really how could she. Does she not know who I am? Then sweet little scared Dani who has never had to answer to anyone but herself recieves just reward for her sassiness to the Alpha. She takes on a bit of a spoiled child behavior..."I hate you.."
I loved Dani's best friend and Masons second. Knowing just what both the BFF and the Alpha needed and how far to push both of them.Ms Raine dropped a wee bit of danger mixed in a few heated sex scenes. I liked the play by between Mason and Dani you could feel the sparks fly. Mason seems a bit at a loss what to do with Dani and Dani would much rather be left to her own devices. What about the Second and the BFF?? or the Second and the Alpha? Will be interested in seeing how this is played out. Enjoy

Maaaan, 3 stars is generous maybe, but I'd probably read this author again even though the overall message of this book was basically that a man should claim his woman whether she wants it or not because she doesn't know her own mind and if you leave her to her own devices she will be a danger to herself and others😂🤔 Idk, it was sorta hot but it was so insanely sexist I couldn't help laughing more than anything else.

Dani is a lone wolf. She was pretty much abandoned by her parents and has built a life for herself without any other werewolves around.

Mason is the leader of a pack. And has decided it is time to bring Dani in for her own safety.

Normally I don't like to see our female protagonist forced into a relationship against her will but in this case I thought Mason should have stepped things up a bit. We knew, He knew, She knew they were going to end up together so just do it already.

The biggest problem I had was the whole Human Hunter storyline. I didn't think they were established well enough for me to understand what their motivation and their game was.

An extremely solid debut effort.

Now this is one great werewolf book. I just enjoyed watching the scene between Dani and Mason. Mason is the alpha of his pack and he wants to ask Dani ti join his pack. That is until he meets and touches her. He has finally found his mate.

Dani has been alone since she was ten years old. She doesn't understand how packs work or what claiming really is. She has never had to rely on anyone but herself. To say that these two clash will make you laugh out loud. I can't believe how the pack puts their mates in line.

This book was well written and even though it was short I enjoyed it. I could sit and watch these two all day. Well all except watching Mason go crazy because he hasn't made Dani his mate yet. I enjoyed the fighting scenes of the hunters and the wolves. So this book has action in it. I hated when I reached the end. I will have to read more by this author.

Dani is a Lone Wolf that always relied upon herself and avoided becoming part of a pack. Alpha, Mason Daniels, discovers that hunters are after the she-wolf and marks her for protection. Unfortunately, the mark is ignored and Dani is taken prisoner. Now Dani is forced into pack life.

The dialog in Marked by the Alpha seemed abrupt to me. This caused me not to feel connect to the characters. I would have liked some insight to the characters' thoughts and emotions. There were occasional quick references to why people did what they did, but I felt it wasn’t established enough.

This was a short book, 63 pages on my eReader. The concept was interesting. I think a little more development and a couple more pages could have added a lot to the book.

Dani is a lone wolf who runs a store with her friend Alisha, the only person who knows she is a shifter. Hunters have been around and many packless wolves have gone missing. Mason, the Alpha of a local pack tries to convince Dani to join them for safety, which she vehemently refuses to do.
On her way out of work one night, she has an eerie feeling of being watched and decides she is safer on foot. On the route home she keeps finding dead animals that lead right to her house. She sees her house all lit up, and is shot with tranq darts. She has enough strength to throw her phone, a preset signal to Alisha if Dani goes missing.
Mason finds her and brings her to his pack, and one way or another she will become his mate.

This was 3.5 stars for me. I decided to round up as this is the author's debut and I really did like the characters and the story. The one word that I have for this book is "more". It could have been so much more if details regarding Dani's upbringing were better explained. More insight into the pack itself would also be a plus. Mason's character was a little confusing and I would have liked much more background on him.

I will continue to watch Ms Raine as I believe that she has great potential.

Good short story. I really enjoyed the story, but as with most short stories, I wanted more. There was just enough of the rebellion without going overboard. The "mating" portion worked. My only problem was the end. I wanted a bit more with the relationship building between Dani and Mason and with Dani and the pack. I also wanted a little more with Alisha and Phil. BUT, all in all a really good read.

Paranormal stories are among my favorites and Ms Raine did not disappoint when it comes to alpha wolf, Mason.
Dani is a strong and independent she-wolf, but still no match for Mason when he places his mark on her, bringing her into his pack, for her own protection.
The love that develops between them is great and the sex... sizzles off the page.
This book has a great plot and well developed story line with a good array of interesting sub-characters who I am anxious to read more about.

This is a gr8 story & I enjoyed it very much . Dani is a female alpha shifter, who is a lone shifter & having trouble with hunters. Mason is the alpha from a nearby pack & wants to claim & protect her, but she's afraid. This book is well written & very hot. I think this new writer is going to go a long way.

This was a cute story of an alpha claiming his mate. It had a few adventures
during the story with hunters. Some of it was just erotic reading. There are spanking
for misbehaving wolves..... It was a quick read...

This one didn't quite work for me. I had a hard time connecting with the characters and they went back and forth a little too much, too quickly for it to work. Mason is an alpha and apparently is pretty much a dom it seems but there were just certain things that didn't ring true for me. Part of the way that things played out with Dani within this just didn't feel like they really worked for me. She's very independent and has trust issues since she has only had herself to rely on which made trusting Mason difficult which fit but the back and forth with the dominant alpha aspect of things just didn't fit the way her personality seemed to be set up. She apparently wanted to Mason to take her choice away from her at times (most of the time it seemed) and yet she was fighting to keep her distance so that didn't happen. It just didn't fit and there wasn't a reason or explanation that made that dichotomy work for me. There are lots of push and pull between the characters and action as well with the hunters after Dani. This is a short book and I listened the whole way through there were just times where a little more explanation would have made a huge difference in understanding what was going on and how things operated in this world. I couldn't get into the story and stay there.

Liked it

Mason and Dani spar from the very beginning. They are both alpha wolves, but he will be respected or her butt will pay. Dani is slow to trust anyone except her bestie, so she won't be sitting pretty. This is the first book I've read by this author. Looking forward to more, especially since this tale is set in the same world as one of Delta James' Wayward Mates series books. Mason is much more likeable though.

Needs improvement

This novella is in its infancy. The writing is childlike and repetitive. The conversations are stilted and unrealistic. The entire storyline appears to be in draft form. Is the heroine plucking daisy petals "i want him, I don't?" Needless to say, I was less than impressed.

Marked

A nice story although the flow is a little rough little rough . It kept me entertained and interested in reading the next book in the series . The heroine is a bit lost and seem hasn't learned how to interact with other wolves . The Alpha mating instinct has him frazzled as he tries to handle his mate as if she is human . They all get it together in the end .

Both H/h are very much headstrong characters. She has always been independent and I believe she gets upset at most things, even concerned friends. I would like a better picture of what makes up the hero but the narrator's voice is perfect for the character.

Dani is a lone wolf and she is doing just fine, thanks. But… someone is leaving dead rabbits on her store’s front doorstep and last week they slashed her tires. Perhaps she needs to join a pack for her own protection? Before the hunters decide to do more.
When Mason Daniels strides into her store and insists that she invite him over for dinner Dani is frightened that he just wants her as a mate.
***
Dani and Daniels? really? You couldn't think of another name?
Why would hunters drop dead rabbits on her step? Why wouldn’t they just… I dunno… kill her???
There is something really odd about the dialogue in this book; especially Mason’s speech. I can’t put my finger on it. It just sounds wrong. I think it is that they have cut out all the contractions. But that’s how people talk, so to hear them sound so formal with each other is grating.
Mason smiled. “I have spoken to you with more kindness than most would have, Miss Dixon.” (Kindle Location 193).

Ugh… that’s so stilted.
And she does the ‘I want him to touch me… oh, no I don’t’ thing. Swapping back and forth so quickly that it makes my head spin.
***
I am happy for consensual spankings, or even ones where you have a partner and have pre-agreed to spontaneous ones, but I do not agree with beating a woman to teach her to respect a man. Nah uh. He even said respect had to be earned and then he didn’t earn it.
“You will regret saying those words to me tonight, Dani. I will earn your respect even though I am sure you won’t like my methods.”

See what I mean about the stilted dialogue? And the repetition of character names. There’s just the two of them. Don’t keep saying people’s names all the time.
Dani is supposed to be a strong wolf, and the most lupine thing she does is growl once. As a female wolf she’d tear the freaking head off a male. Wolf packs are run by a bonded pair, not an alpha male.
He has done nothing other than eat the dinner she cooked, no details of how he would protect her, no offer… just starts spanking her with his belt in her own home.
Oh, I lie… he brought wine… a merlot. Ugh, ditch him for that, alone.
Make him bleed, Dani and then throw him out.

Marked by the Alpha was a short novella that might've taken on too much. There just weren't enough pages - enough words - to fully evolve the story. I was left with questions about character motivation, especially as the societal norms played out in the pack.

The story was short, the h/H were basic, and there was like no sex. It had all these warnings and there was pretty much no sex or anything really. The few times they did mess around it wasn't in detail, it was short, and she stopped it right away for a bs reason. the h was stupid, she was like I hate you bla bla bla but in her head she was saying the exact opposite. I didn't get it.
