No matter how hard Roxy tries to overcome her past, she can't. She writes on her arms to escape the pain, but nothing can soothe the ache that she feels.
Aiden didn't go to college to meet girls, he came to play football. Too bad that it is impossible for him to stay away from Roxy.
After meeting on the roof, they instantly feel connected, but neither of them are ready for love.
You Got Me is a story about new beginnings, and finding love when you least expect it.
You Got Me is a story of beautiful romance. Both Roxy and Aiden have to get past their past traumas, their hesitations, and fears in order for their relationship to work. For both of them this isn't an easy task, but they can't ignore the attraction that they've felt for each other since the first time they met. In You Got Me, Love prevails all and there is hope for Roxy and Aiden after all.
The typical Love Story with a new twist. I love the connection that Roxy and Aiden have. It is so perfectly sweet and they couldn't be any more right for each other. Roxy is not your typically girl. Her style of all black clothes (with the occasional pink) and the pink stripe that she keeps in her hair makes her a little different. She is a loner and very content on spending all her time by herself. Well that is until Aiden shows up in her life to bring her out of her shell. Aiden accepts Roxy exactly how she is. He never tries to change her but instead does the opposite and helps her become more strong and confident in who she is. You can't help but love Aiden. He is the perfect book boyfriend. He's protective of Roxy and always seems to know what to say. They are exactly what each other needs and they can't deny that.
This is probably weird but I'm the kind of person that likes when the characters problems are deeper. In books, petty problems annoy me. Roxy and Aiden's struggles are definitely not petty. Roxy's mom is psychotic and messed her up pretty good throughout her childhood. In You Got Me, Roxy has to learn to actually live in life instead of just going through it. I love how Aiden was able to help her through it and how even though there were many problems between the two of them they could get through it together.
I think my point has been made about how I feel about the characters and before I sound like a broken record, I will just end it like this- I would recommend You Got Me to any of you out there that like a really sweet New Adult/Mature YA romance and believe that love prevails all! <3
I really liked it.Roxy was a strong character,and Aiden...let's just not start this,cause I will not stop.Every girls dream,is enough. And Gary...my fave.
Roxy Gibson was a young woman who had a horrible childhood growing up in Chicago. Adopted when she was a teen by Steve, a surgeon and Emily, a social worker. They move to Alabama to get away from her past.
Aidan Dixon was in college on a football scholarship. He had a set plan. School, football and family. He is working hard to be able to one day help give his family a better life.
He meets Roxy on the rooftop of their dorm. He can see the pain in her eyes and hear it in her voice. He is drawn to her and he knows he shouldn't. But all he wants to do is be close to Roxy, to get to know her, comfort her, and to fix her. Is there room for Roxy in his "set plans".
It will take a lot of time, understanding, trust, and love to build this relationship. Young love, first love, will Roxy and Aidan find their forever?
There were a few teeny weeny parts in the book that didn't seem quite realistic. But otherwise, it was still worth the read!
Mercy.......THANK YOU! THANK YOU!!! Thank you!!!!!! My absolutely favorite predictable book I have read In a long time! Comparing to Beautiful disaster, and the likes. Young college books tend to be my favorites besides hot tattoos and rockers;).
I have high anxiety when reading always fearful a book will let me down. NOT this one! Loved it so much just purchased her other book and will be stalking her for another!
Hate this rating system...it's hands down a 10 for me! If you don't like predictable, with a whole lot of pain and suffering with a sunshine reward....this book is not for you. It was exactly what I needed!
This is my ever first book of Mercy Amare and this truly not bring me down. I enjoyed it very much. There are many times that my heart has been broken because of her experiences and that makes her stronger than ever in her life. Of course there are still moments that she feel devastated that's normal though and I'm glad Aiden was there to help her out. Aiden is such amazing young man, hard to find a true jewel like him and what he felt for Roxy is one true love.
Thank you Mercy you truly entertain my Saturday lazy afternoon. So much enjoyed that really touches my heart and soul.
I read this in a day! So good! My heart broke for Roxy who went through so much. Aiden is seriously the perfect book boyfriend. He isn't perfect he has flaws. Aiden shows Roxy that love has ups and down.
shittiest book I've ever read. how the hell do two people get close so quickly especially considering one is royally messed up. I'm not even going to bother rating it since this pile of crap shouldn't even be called a book.
A pokud půjde zároveň o dobrou knihu, bude to plus. Projížděla jsem čtečku a upoutala mě obálka You Got Me.
A pak najednou bum!
A když už to dojde do bodu, kdy se ji matka pokusí zabít, píšou o tom v novinách a pokud si pamatuju dobře, napsali tam celé jméno včetně věku a detailního popisu události. Celou dobu ani náznak, ani myšlenka, a pak si najednou Roxy strká prsty do krku a zvrací krev.

This book started out well for me. I like the writing and it's simplistic style, and the plot moved along right away. And after reading an extremely long and overly drawn-out contemporary not to long ago, this was a refreshing change for me.
I was also instantly drawn to the characters. Roxy, the female protagonist, is a troubled soul after suffering through some extremely horrific events in her past. She still has a lot of serious issues to deal with internally, and the way she copes with it is truly heartbreaking.
Enter our male protagonist, Aiden. He's in college on a football scholarship, but he's not the typical jock portrayed in fiction. Although is background story is not as traumatic as Roxy's, he has some serious issues to deal with at home. He's also not in college to use his football popularity status to party and hook up with some girls. He actually has some goals and wants to get an education to better himself. On top of that, he treats his family very well. I found his whole characterization admirable.
The attraction between Roxy and Aiden was palpable. Against all odds they both seem to be drawn to each other. I really like how the relationship developed between them. I wouldn't necessarily characterize it as insta-love, but it was straightforward.
The middle part of the book is where it went a bit downhill for me. I understand that this book wouldn't hold interest without its bumps, so it goes without saying that not everything were smelling like roses in the relationship department. I don't want to spoil the book so I won't go into detail, but there was this particular bump in their relationship in which the cause seems a bit petty. My particularly problem was with Roxy. I know she has some issues, but the way she handled everything seems out-of-character from how she was in the beginning of the book.
Despite my issue, I still really like the book. The story was compelling and the characters had enough layers to keep me interested.
I was really touched by this book. It was so sweet and full of love. I adored Roxy and admired her strength. I'll admit, I had trouble connecting with the characters at first. By the time I got 25% into the book, I was hooked.
Aiden is such a great guy. He cares for his family and loves the ones closest to him. He even cares for his roommate even though he hardly gets any sleep between Garry's girls and his snoring. His family struggles and he does what he can to help. Aiden's going to school and keeping his grades up so he can help provide them with a better life. He never expected to meet Roxy.
Roxy is damaged. She has suffered her whole life. Guys aren't even on her radar. Speaking to people is a challenge for her. She's been through a lot in her life and has the mental and physical scars to prove it. She now has a family that loves and supports her.
When Roxy meets Aiden, there are a million reasons they shouldn't become friends. Regardless, they do. Both of them realize they find comfort in each other that they didn't know they needed.
This book made me cry sad and happy tears. It was a stellar book with heart and I have to recommend You've Got Me to anyone who enjoys a new adult love story. This book gets five glittery stars for pure awesomeness!
I liked this book didn't love it, but I liked it. Aiden that boy is something else he has his own demons just like Roxy has her own together they know how to fight them and come out on top, apart they're just well... they're sad. Let's break down the type of person Aiden is he's sweet, "hanging out with you is the highlight of my day. Is that lame?" He's considerate, "as much as I want to take you right here, I'd rather our first time not be in your car at a truck stop." He enjoys the physical aspects of Roxy's body, "I watched Roxy climb out of the pool. And yeah, I checked out her a**... And what a fine a** it was." He knows when to admit his mistakes, "I wanted to punch myself. I didn't have to make the decision. I was the one that pushed her away." He tries his damnest to make sure things get back to where they were, "...I left her a note, with coffee. Sometimes I even made paper roses for her." As I said before Roxy and Aiden were made for each other sometimes you have to get through the bad to get to the good.
You Got Me is a good book. I liked the characters, Roxy and Aiden, and the struggles they went through. My heart was heavy for Roxy often and I was drawn into her story from the beginning. I liked how Aiden wanted to fix her. Unfortunately the beginning of their relationship felt slightly rushed to me and for someone that had such a hard time opening up to others, Roxy very quickly became dependent on Aiden. When her past was coming out it ended up becoming very anticlimactic. I didn't feel the pain she was feeling like I wanted to. Also, I began to notice the sex was always unprotected, to the point I kept thinking Roxy was going to end up pregnant, like it was part of the story (which it wasn't). Even with all that I still enjoyed the story line and characters and I look forward to seeing what story this author creates next.
I'm trying to read the shorter books that I have gotten that are on my kindle so I can clear some space. I must say, I've been slightly disappointed! This one wasn't bad, but it wasn't great. Social outcast meets boy, falls in love quickly, etc. etc. etc. I like the growth that Roxy shows, but then in the heat of the moment, one that's an emergency at that, she turns into Childish McPouty-Pants. Just didn't feel much connection from the characters.
I loved this book!! It was so sad to go through all the struggles and tragedies in her life. It is a long process and my heart was breaking with every new bit of information. Then comes Aiden, the sexy football star. He has his own past and while not as devastating as Roxy's, he still has issues that he faced and struggles with. Aiden's love saves Roxy and the result is heart warming. I'd love to see more of them. I'd love to learn more about Rachel and Gary as well.
Overall a great story. I felt like she built us up and then it ended though. This could easily been a longer book or series. Great character development, just ended too soon. Definitely would recommend it to anyone :-)
Cute story. It probably would have so much more potential if it was a little but more in-depth but everything was sort of rushed throughout it. I would definitely recommend it for some one that is looking for a quick read though.
Wayyy too basic. A lot of telling, no illustrating with words. Not that i expect too much of my romance novels, but this was just ridiculous, a ten year old would pick this up and think this is the way relationships work.
The most boring and unrealistic book I've read in a long time. The characters didn't even solve their problems at the end. Lyk the author got too distracted writing about them having sex!! The emotions didn't grip me at all --- if there were any at all !!
This is one of the best books I have EVER read. The story is so touching. Soul mates, finding each other. I was not able to put this book down. 5 stars !
Hmm. I THINK the actual rating may be 3.5 stars. I'll think about it. Rating's going to three. Explained in review below!
This book was adorable. There is no doubt about that. This book also held my attention. And I have more to say, but the review is under construction. No worries! Full review WILL come. :)

It is completely undeniable that You Got Me is a cute book. It's cute, sweet, and romantic, and touches on some topics that are serious. The book isn't really all that heavy, though, so it kind of takes the whole fluffy, romantic contemorary thing to a different level than usual, which is refreshing. It's serious enough to not be total fluff, yet cute enough to give the same light-hearted feeling.
I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book. It's told in alternating POVs, which is always something I love. My only issue here is that the characters were somewhat cliche. He's the dreamy football player who is pretty much perfect. And then she's the abused girl protecting her heart. I'm not saying I don't like these characters, I'm just saying they weren't much different than what we've seen before. I DID like the thing where Roxy writes on her arms, though. That is not something I can say I read about every day, and it added something to her character that I really liked to see.
This book isn't that long, and I read it super quick. For the most part, I wanted to keep reading and just not stop. But then there were the times when it was like I hit a wall in the story and was so incredibly bored. Mostly, this happened when the two main characters--Roxy and Aiden--weren't together. Those two together make everything interesting, but split apart? Not too riveting. There was an event or two in the book where they weren't in the same place at the same time and I liked what I was reading. But again, more often than not, I wanted to skip to the other parts.
Roxy and Aiden! I very much love and approve of this couple. As I've already stated, they are so interesting together. And adorable. And so, so sweet! Aiden's a great guy and he's so good for Roxy. They treat each other well and just FEEL so much together, I love it! I was rooting for them from the moment they met. Still am, actually.
The ending. This is also cliche. Anyone could probably guess it. Seriously, that's not even a spoiler. But if it's going to be predictable, at least it is predictable sweetness!
Overall,You Got Me is a fun, quick read that will make you smile. If you like cute contemoraries, I think you should give this one a shot.
Nope, nope, nope. I did not like this. This isn't a romance at all. Anyone who knows anything about mental health knows exactly how this book will go, it's predictable. Roxy does not engage in improving her mental health. But then she meets a boy and she ties her entire mental health and happiness into Aiden. But then they have an argument and split, so she turns to alcohol and induced vomiting as a coping strategy because she hasn't actually improved her mental health. But when they get back together, she's magically happy again so the end. No.
You can write romance novels with characters with mental health issues but this isn't how you do it. The author knows this because she has the therapist suggest Roxy not use Aiden as a crutch for her mental health. But Roxy just disputes this and we're meant to be okay with it? The therapist even agrees to reduce their sessions despite Roxy jumping back into negative coping mechanisms at the first sign of adversity. They get matching fucking tattoos! They have their first kiss after she tells him her trauma. It's not a romance at all. Aiden repeatedly thinks about he wants to fix her and it really grossed me out.
Have I taken this s bit too personally? Maybe, I work in mental health and have seen these types of unhealthy relationships before so I don't want to be reading it. I read this as part of my goal to review my old reads. It actually saddens me to think that teenage me enjoyed this as a triumphant romance that beat the challenges. It should have been a second chance romance with a flash forward where Roxie has spent time dealing with her issues to be a solid person before entering into a serious relationship. As someone who works in mental health, are there sections I appreciate? There are sections that are realistic. The fact that Roxy wants to see and be comforted by her abusive Mum despite what she's done, this happens and I appreciated its inclusion. The spiral Roxy had after being triggered, and Aiden not even being able to focus on his own family crisis because he triggered Roxy are also super realistic of these relationships, especially of young people. I just can't. So many of the books I read when I was younger are just toxic and unhealthy. It just makes me sad.
