Librarian note:
There is more than one author in the GoodReads database with this name

First of all, a confession. My name isn’t really Lucy Diamond at all, it’s Sue Mongredien. I’ve used a pen name because ‘Diamond’ is a lot easier to spell and pronounce than ‘Mongredien’ and also because I’ve written lots of children’s books too and wanted to keep the genres separate. (There is actually another Lucy Diamond on Amazon who writes religious children’s books. That isn’t me, though.)

I was born in 1970 and grew up in Nottingham. I read English at Leeds University then moved to London and worked for various publishers before I packed it all in to go travelling around the world for a year and a half. When I came back to the UK, I worked in publishing again, then moved to the BBC. I now live in Bath with my husband and three young children and divide my time between writing and looking after them. You can have a look at my children’s books here.

Favourite things: beaches, holidays, chocolate, wine, reading, Green Wing, bubble baths, sunshine, hearing my children laugh, babysitters

Favourite books: The Magus (John Fowles), The Edible Woman (Margaret Atwood), The Secret History (Donna Tartt), The Colour of Memory (Geoff Dyer)

I was very impressed with this audiobook and enjoyed every minute I spent listening. The narration was wonderful and the storyline was brilliant. I will certainly be looking for other stories from this author as I enjoyed this book so much.

I have really been enjoying Lucy Diamond's books--they are fun and breezy but deeper than the average chick lit, touching on serious issues with a deft hand. However I could do without the occasional pot shot at 'evangelical Christians' (as quoted in the book). There were two mentions in this book alone about how weird and preachy Christians are. Does she think no Christians read her books?! You wouldn't get away with mocking another religion like that, as a lighthearted aside that we're all meant to find funny.

This was an excellent book with great characters and very easy read all about family life and moving forward. Lillian and Eddie run their house as a guest house but Lillian realises eddies health isn't to good so wants to hand the family house to one of her boys. Do the boys want to take it on or do the wife's want to as well can they sort it out or not. Lillian isn't use to girls and finds it hard getting on with the boys wife's and do they like her. Well written and didn't want it to end.

There are a select few authors whose books I wait impatiently and eagerly to be released each year and Lucy Diamond is one of those authors. I am sure most of you have a few fail safe authors who you know what ever book you pick up by them is sure to be pure escapism, well this author is well and truly on that list for me! You can always tell a Lucy Diamond book from way off as she has her own signature look when it comes to her books they are always bright and cheerful and Me and Mr Jones is as bright as they come.

Me and Mr Jones follows Emma, Alicia and Izzy all who are the love interest of the Jones brothers. The story alternates between each of the women's perspectives, allowing us to really get to know each of the characters in turn as well as their partners and the dreaded mother in-law! Things have become to much for parents Lilian and Eddie and the time has come for them to leave the family home and b&b business but they really want to keep it in the family but which one of their three sons will be ready to take charge?

I loved each and everyone of the characters in this book even down to Lilian who appears to be the mother in-law from hell! Quite often when there are a large amount of characters in a book it can often get a little confusing as to who is who but this was not the case in this book all of the characters were developed so well they were all quite clear to tell apart. I loved the relationships but I did enjoy Izzy and Charlies relationship best as there was more excitement and mystery as to will they wont they which kept me gripped.

What I have always loved about Lucy Diamonds books is her writing style, she always manages to make her story lines flow so effortlessly through out the entire book that you cant help devour her books in one sitting. The author has created a storyline which is believable and interesting so it held my interest from start to finish.

I maybe being very hopeful here but I do feel as though there could be a possibility of a sequel to this book and I for one would be first in line to pick up my copy and re-visit these characters to see how all there lives have changed.

This is a delightful, warm read that centers around family and relationships making an ideal summer read with a perfect setting in the beautiful Lyme Regis.

Ahhh Lucy Diamond we meet again. This is one of the few Diamond books that I have left to read on my shelf, and in all honesty, for the first 100 or so pages I thought I was going to love it and then it just spiraled out of control.

What seems to be a theme in her books, is the amount of plot focuses and areas she tries to cover in one book. I made a list for this one, as I have done before, of all the topics that she covers in this book just to show how many she covers. In this book alone I found the following:

*infertility
*cheating
*alzheimers
*domestic abuse
*parental death
*long lost unknown children
*general family issues
*general relationship issues
*mid-life crisis

and these are just the main ones that I can think of. Because she puts so many storylines and topics into one story I find that none of them are every done well. She also splits the focus of the book onto four separate women, and again the plot is so spread over characters, that none of them ever really get enough time to grow as characters and they all sort of blur into one.

I will say, that I prefer some of the characters in this book than in previous books. Alicia is a delight and really grows as a character throughout the book; her ability to assert herself really grows throughout the book and she becomes such a delight. And yet she is stuck with such a shitty husband in Hugh (yes he gets a bit better) but honestly he's pretty crap throughout... it was pretty obvious he wasn't having an affair but the surprise daughter was honestly just annoying, it wasn't needed.

I liked Emma, for the most part, apart from her considering having an affair just to get pregnant and thinking that would all be fine.. again her partner David is pretty rotten until the end of the book.

Isobel... she's okay? but she never feels like a real character despite her character experiencing the most pain throughout this book. She is so defined by her ex-Gary and then by Charlie that she never truly feels like her own character.

Lillian is a terrible character and I hated her. I didn't feel sorry for her when she had a little cry on Emma and i'm honestly annoyed that she got away with her behaviour with little more than one sorry.

As usual, the men are not the focus of this story and, again, as usual, are pretty shit. They're slightly more redeemable than other books but again are lacking.

One thing that really really irritated me with this book was that it jumped from character to character and everytime we skipped the big fallout or reveal; Alicia asking Hugh where he had been instead of the Gym, Isobel's accident, Emma and David talking... everything is skipped in favour of jumping to the next character and it really ruined the flow of the book for me. When we don't get to read about what has happened and just get a wrap up whenever their next chapter turns up, it really takes away any impact of the story.

One thing that does please me is the lack of cheating storyline in this book. HALLELUJAH. This is a first for me with Lucy Diamond. I just couldn't get with this one, despite initially enjoying it it rapidly went downhill.

'Me and Mr. Jones' was really good. The audiobook was great. The narrator did a great job. It made listening so much more immersive.
Yes, I admit, there are some boring parts in the beginning when introducing the characters. It's a bit slow and was at first a bit confusing with who was who. However, it's only a few chapters and it's so worth it in the end! Also, the ending was really satisfying.

I love Lucy Diamond's style of writing. It was witty and comical and touching all together. This story made me both laugh and almost cry at the same time. I mean, there where so many hilarious moments!

Especially Emma and her embarrassing and awkward moments where amazing. But also her moment was one of the most heartfelt ones.

The characters where lovely and interesting to follow along. The story became more interesting when wone gets to know the characters more and more.

The characters where well written. They felt real with real life problems. It was interesting to follow everyone and how each characters story line came together.

All point of views was very good. However, Lilian Jones' was probably the least interesting for me. It wasn't bad! Well, thoughout and it was interesting to hear and feel her worry when she realizes that everything is not well with her husband. It must be scary and heart-wrenching. It just, probably was boring at times.

Lilian was also the most annyoing of them (or perhaps Emma?) However, Lilian grew on me. Especially it was sweet to see her relationship with Isabel Allerton grew throughout the story.

My favorite story line was Isabel Allerton's. Also, she might be my favorite character. She is a strong woman with a heartbreaking past. She was such a kind and wonderful mum for her girls.

Alicia Jones was one of my favorite characters. I love how she was a loving mum and loyal friend. Honestly, if she was real, I would love to be friends with her!

In the end, 'Me and Mr. Jones' was a wonderful story, with good characters and well built up relationships.

Dnf at 160😭 I had to bail when I felt that slump rolling💔

This is trying to be a cozy family thing but they all really dislike each other and the mum in law is absolutely maddening, not to mention how unlikeable and flat the characters feel! I tried I REALLY DID.

Me And Mr Jones is Lucy Diamond's seventh novel and is published by Pan Macmillan, released on 6 June 2013.

The story revolves around the Jones family; the four Mr Jones and the women and children that share their lives.
Eddie Jones and his wife Lilian have lived in Mulberry House for over forty years, this is where they brought up their three sons; Hugh, David and Charlie. Mulberry House is now a guest house and Lilian and Eddie have managed their business very well over the years. Lilian has realised though that Eddie's health is not so good, it is time for them to retire, but will any of their sons want to take over the business?

Be warned! Once you start reading Me And Mr Jones you will won't want to put it down. This is the perfect summer read, full of entertaining and vividly drawn characters who immediately begin to feel like members of your own family. Hugh has been married to Alicia for around twenty years, they appear to be the model family; good jobs, nice house and three lovely children. Alicia is approaching her fortieth birthday and is beginning to feel unsettled, she is tired of being the perfect wife, always cleaning and cooking, she want a little excitement in life. Little does she know that good old Hugh has a little secret of his own.

David, the middle son has lost his job. His wife Emma is desperate for a baby, everything seems to be crumbling around them. Emma wants a baby, she is determined to get pregnant, and nothing will stand in her way.

Charlie, the youngest son, is a charmer. Totally unreliable, but Lilian's favourite son. Everything that he touches fails, yet he is lovable and honest and loyal. When he meets Izzy, on the run from an abusive husband with two young daughters in tow, everyone assumes that this is going to be another of Charlie's failures. They don't know Izzy though!

Lucy Diamond has written a novel that is a joy to read. It's a pleasure to sit down with this book and totally lose yourself for a few hours. Although funny, it also deals with some pretty serious issues, and she deals with them very well. I found myself completely caught up with each of the characters and their lives.
We meet Lilian and scowl in frustration as she bitches at her daughters-in-law and undermines anyone who dares to speak back to her, then we get to know her a little better and find that underneath the bluster there is a loving wife who is worried sick. She is worried sick about Eddie - a wonderful father character who I loved instantly.

This is sparkly, summer reading at its very best. Characters to love and a really engaging storyline. I enjoyed every page, and really hope that Lucy Diamond will consider writing a sequel. I'd love to know what happens to the Jones family in the future.

I received a copy of the book from publisher in exchange for a review.
What can I say? I loved this book, really I did. I am on such a good roll with the books lately, it's just wonderful.
This book proves that one can write a brilliant, warm, deep story without too much over - exaggerated drama, unpossible situations and über - intrigue. It was a wonderful, calm read, it had everything: interesting plot, great characters, enough action to keep you in grip and want to turn the pages. And it teaches you that you can't judge person by the first impression, doesn't it, Lilian?:)
I really didn't like Lilian at the beginning, shame to say because she was an plder person already and one should like all older people, or maybe not? :) She was so arrogant and rude and I was sure nothing change my opinion about her but well, something did. Her daughters - in - law (in - spe as well) were wonderful, normal woman, working, having their own dreams and problems and being just good. And being good I don't mean that they were plain characters, oh no, they were not so easy, they had their own secrets and plans as well. I have really warm to Alicia, immediately, she was a real person, like every one of us, because I guess that most of us is like her: she wants to do something for her, she wants a little independence but when the crunch comes she puts herself as the last important person, and I think this is what most of us always do. And I don't mean here that she is a martyr or something like this, no, she is absolutely wonderful woman, honest and brave.
And just let me to tell that I am keeping my fingers crossed for Emma and David.
What I perhaps missed a little is more about Izzy and Gary situation, it has solved itself very fast and actually too easy, but on the other hand shall there be more drama I think I would end frustrated, banging my head on the wall. So no, maybe it's better it has ended like this.
The end itself is for my liking too open, it leaves a lot to imagine but maybe we get a sequel to this book? Wouldn't say no to it, absolutely not:)
Altogether, brilliant read, absolute page - turner and would recommend it heartily.

So, I'm a 16 year old student who's a fanatic for reading and came across this book in the summer. It was a copy I bought from waterstone's, having had the motive to find a good book to read. The blurb intrigued me beyond normality, causing me to just want to engross myself. I started reading the book and stopped half way, but two days ago I picked it up again and now it's finished. Can I say, that I'm absolutely gutted it's done! I loved this book so much, for so many reasons. The concept is absolutely brilliant, intertwining 3 story lines in one way or another to have them all come together and link in the end. The drama, the romance, the tension were all so greatly developed, and it was amazing how throughout the whole book there were cliffhangers because of one character's story being cut off by another character's story in the next chapter! It was so smartly written! and even though there were only 2 or 3 typing errors- literally- the book was grammatically correct, which made me the more happier. I seriously suggest this book to anyone who's like me and are fanatics of humorous drama! Definitely would read it again xo

I love Lucy Diamond's writing style, but unfortunately could not get hooked within this story. It's the tale of three brothers and their partners but none of the characters were particularly vivid or engaging in my opinion. I like the way the story was told from different points of view and loved the seaside setting, but overall found it a little predictable. Not terrible - just not gripping or memorable enough for me.

This was full of so much drama. Too much drama. Sometimes it hurt my head. We followed 3 sons and their parents. All are at different aspects of their life.

From the first chapter I had written this note -> Who will be the next owner of the Milberry House? Hugh (and Alicia - perfect family?), David (and Emma - fertility issues?) or Charles (late bloomer).

Thankfully all issues were resolved somewhat or came to a reasonable solution.

I’ll definitely read another one of her books if given the chance.

This was my first Lucy Diamond book. I often like to dip into a light 'chick lit', and this fit the bill. It isn't all light and fluffy, there are some scenes of drama and some serious issues, which made it feel more real and relevant. While I am a little older than the main female characters, I certainly did feel I could relate to some of the issues they were facing. I found myself wanting to rush on and find out what happened to everyone. A bit of a page turner! I enjoyed this book and I will certainly look out some more titles from this author.

Really enjoyed this as an audio book. Nothing too taxing but a very enjoyable listen about the ladies and their Mr Jones. There is plenty of scope for a sequel and I would definitely love to catch up with the characters again. Issy was my favourite character by far and her little girls were lovely. Highly recommend, perfect beach or travel read.

I thoroughly enjoyed ‘Me and Mr Jones’, despite having tried to read it a couple of years ago and not getting very far. I thought this book deserved a second chance, and it didn’t let me down. Concerning four sisters with very different romantic lives, I found myself rather invested in the outcome of the main character, whose wedding gets called off the night before and life suddenly seems very bleak. As we know though will all chick-lit romances, life doesn’t stay difficult for long and her Prince Charming will soon be along to sweep her off her feet. An easy read and well-written.

I just adore this cover. It's got a nice summery feel to it, very much so, from the array of pale colours used (I practically like a few of the items that are coloured in a shimmery blue which has been used and sparkles in the light!) to the items and greenery that goes around the author's name and the title. The pale yellow and white striped backing add's to the summery feel and works well from the pale blue of the authors name and the redness of the title. Great front cover!
As some of you know I'm a big fan of Lucy's books and I'm trying to work my way through them. They are so gentle and easy to read, and the characters are just loveable!
The three Jones brothers Huge, David and Charlie are all so very different. Hugh is loyal, dependable where as David is the more practical one and Charlie is a kind of free spirit unable to keep a job.
Hugh is married to Alicia and they have two children; which keeps them very busy. With work commitments, the running of the house and running the children around the couple have got there relationship in a rut. Can they get themselves out of the rut their in? Do they want to? Is their something more to the distance between them?
David is married to Emma and the couple are desperately trying for a baby. The stress of waiting every month only to be disappointed is really getting to the couple; affecting their relationship. Will the stress of trying destroy their relationship?
Charlie is very single (at the moment!) he isn't really the reliable type not just with jobs but with women and life in general. But when he meets Izzy when picking his nice up from dance class, things change. Izzy is a single working mother to a daughter, she has move to the town to get her and her daughter away from her abusive husband. She is hoping more than anything that he won't find them, constantly looking over her shoulder. Izzy isn't sure about Charlie, he get's on well with her daughter but does she need the hassle on top of everything else? Will Charlie ever settle down? Will he find what he has always been looking for?
Their parents; Lilian and Eddie run and own a B&B in what was the family home for the Jones family. But the house need some TLC and with their age is against them and Eddie seems to be getting more and more confused, Lilian knows she can't carry on. They don't really what to have to sell to just anyone they are hoping that one of their son's will take it on; so she and her husband can get something more suitable for them both. In a bit to break the news to the Jones brothers they summon them and their wives to come to a family meal.
They all turn up at the Jones household and Charlie is late but brings a Izzy; who suddenly feel's like a fish out of water. Alicia recognises as the dance teacher. Lilian is not happy at all at Charlies antics, but somehow she never stays mad at him for long. Lillian and Eddie make their announcement to their boys hoping that Huge or David will step up and not Charlie. Huge is keen but Alicia isn't, David offers to stay a while and help fix the place up and Charlie seam's really keen on the idea! Who of the Jones brothers will take on and run the B&B? Will any of them notice Eddie's forgetfulness?
Lucy Diamond what a delightful book you have written! I was quite literally glued to Me and Mr Jones from the very first page I read! The plot is lovely, gently with comical moments throughout the story. I felt completely entertained as the story unfolds of the family. Lucy's description of the scenery was out of this world, making me feel connected to the setting and the characters. There are many up's and down's which provides anticipation and entertainment!
My favourite characters Izzy; for all that she goes through throughout the story, and Charlie for the way he grows and shock's his family! (but in a good way!) I would defiantly read this book again in a heartbeat!

Review: How did it take me so long to read this book? This just shows why we shouldn't judge books by their covers (or their titles!) because this book did not feature any nasty Mr Jones at all, it was a great read! I loved the structure of this book, each section about a different Mr Jones and the women involved with them, some romantically and some not so there was a great deal of variety throughout the book, something which kept me reading on and wanting to find out more.

I think Izzy was my favourite character to read about, I could really relate to her story and her situation and i found her storyline had the most going on in it, even if some of it was a little deep and serious sometimes-its true to life! I also really enjoyed here ending (not giving anything away obviously) but i enjoyed the journey that she went on over the course of the book!

I enjoyed the other sotyrlines in the novel and I thought that all of them were were realistic and true to life. I really felt for Emma and their issues with trying for a baby and though that Alicia really found herself over the course of this novel. The fact that the novel was structure in this way meant that it was fast paced and this was a very quick read for me, so quick in fact, this may be a novel which i re-read in the future!

In terms of setting, this novel was set across different English cities and the countryside and I enjoyed that variety of areas being described. This book had an epilogue, which I always love, and everybody got the ending that I was hoping for-always nice too! As I have already said, this novel is definitely worth a re-read because it was so entertaining, funny, heartwarming and just a genuinely good read! I would read anything else by Lucy Diamond again-she is definitely an auto-buy author for me!

This was a good read with lots of things happening. It focused on the jones family and the men in the family. Eddie and Lillian own a b&b at the seaside and they are set to retire but they are deliberating what to do with the b&b as they don't want to sell it but pass it to their children. But they have doubts any of them can look after it well. Eddie sadly gets alsumers and it's sad to see how the dynamics change in their marriage. David their eldest son has just been made redundant and is struggling to find a new job while his wife Emma is very much focused on them having a baby but they sadly are having difficulties and Emma is a little obsessed with fertility treatments and ovalation cycles and their marriage is in a difficult place. Alicia is turning forty and is concerned that she feels like she hasn't achieved much in her life or so she thinks. Her husband Hugh is blind to it all and has no clue what is going on. Alicia is the kind of person who will do anything for everybody including strangers, friends and family to the point where she feels like people are taking advantage. And so she decides to try and change things although this does not go to plan. Charlie the youngest brother is a care free spirit, never on time, a jack the lad, cheeky womaniser who is selfishly obsorbed with himself. That is until Izzy arrives with her two children, on the run from her abusive husband trying to keep her children safe. Lots of things happen in this story it is fast paced and I felt a connect to the women in the book. I think this is a great read

This is my first ever Lucy Diamond book and honestly I loved it and I have to say with how much I enjoyed this book I will definitely pick up a few more of her books! From the first chapter I was put into this world following 3 girls who are all completely different in their own ways yet they were all relatable in some way to myself. They were all seeing or married to one of the Jones brothers and I just thought this would concept of the book was great I loved the fact it was about the three brothers (Hugh, David and Charlie) and the three women (Alicia, Emma and Izzy) and their ups and downs of their marriages and relationships I just loved it and was rooting for all the characters. I have to say the story was quite predictable or it was for me anyways but I still loved it and enjoyed reading it. The ending was bittersweet for me and left me feeling so happy, really enjoyed this book and can’t wait to pick another book up by Lucy Diamond.

The owners of a bed and breakfast call a family meeting and tell their three sons that they want to retire, hoping that one of them will take over the family business. Neither of the two wives are keen- and the one son they would prefer nowhere near it, is the only one who expresses an interest in saving it. You follow the lives of the family and wonder whether one of them WILL take over. A lovely book.
