Kenya Wright wrote her first novel during her third year at UM Law school. She dropped out a month after the release and never looked back.

Words are power,
and Kenya wants to be the greatest wizard that ever lived.

It's an audacity to inspire
and teach the healing of love through arousal.

It's this crazy idea that love
can not only help a reader escape,
but the story can also teach the person
about being human,
while making them laugh,
cry,
and hot for more sex.

RTC!! 4.5. Highly recommend for those itching for a vampire story with interesting world-building and erotic scenes- couldn't stop reading. More thoughts to come!

Some more thoughts:

Excellent. And yes, this series is erotic. For me, erotic and sensual are different. Erotic isn't always sensual and sensual isn't always erotic. Sensual can describe innocent-ish acts like a look or a word or missionary, but still get me tingling and throbbing. Erotic can describe a group orgy that will leave me feeling nothing.

Escape, the first book in Kenya Wright's Vampire King series, is sensual, but it wasn't adventurous enough for me to consider it erotic. In Captured and in Freed, ok this is now erotic territory.

I am absolutely thrilled at the world-building here and have nothing more to say but that I loved this vampire romance. I'm not mad about it, it didn't take away my enjoyment of the story, but I will note that Samuel doesn't have much of a personality once he bonds with Brie. I noticed this in the first book but he's incredibly possessive, lustful over her... and it doesn't lead his character into deeper development.

Meanwhile, Brie's development is good, but the story shines in the actual plot. Brie's thing in this story is not wanting to be another man's property, so she, understandably, would like to have time to herself, even if she is attracted to Samual.

Here are some more disjointed thoughts:

Samuel is ripening from a vampire prince into a king and he has horns that are erogenous zones. There is a funny scene with his half-sister. That is all.

It threw me off when Brie would describe her underclothing as bra and panties, more modern terms, but then everything else had a historical vibe. Castle setting, domina, full gowns, a court, decadent vampire royals. I know there were bathtubs, not sure if there were showers.

There is some copy and paste exposition that starts to happen in this book and in the next and final book, where entire passages are lifted from the previous book to remind the reader what happened. This is ok as I believe this story was published with a few months in between so this is to refresh the reader.

IMO the vampire king series is one novel that has been split into three sections.

Once again Kenya Wright has outdone herself in my opinion! I just love escaping into a world that is created by Kenya. Her active imagination, and top quality writing is always a pleasure for me!
In "Captured," we are taken back to the complex and sometimes violent world of vampire kings and Dominas; the women who serve them. The story continues with Samuel and Brie and a whole bunch of other characters who add excitement to this action packed and fast paced story. The first book in this series was dedicated to learning about the world and it's politics. "Captured," we watch as Samuel begins to develop powers at a rapid pace, and brings him closer to becoming the King that he is meant to be. There are also some developments into important information on Brie and who she really is and what kind of power she holds within herself. We also learn more about Ian, and believe me; you don't want to miss what Ian has to offer to the female population!!
This is a fast read, but full of adventure, action..and, of course hot, sweaty sex! This book has all of the important elements that a top of the line paranormal romance should have. This is an on going series and I am personally hooked! I didn't want it to end and I am eagerly awaiting for the next one to come..and hopefully it will be fast! Way to go Kenya! Another awesome read from you and as always I look forward to more!

Short reviews are always the best.

Don't you think?

If you want steamy romance...
If you want blood, bite, vampires, and an ending that will leave you screaming for more....

Then this is your book.

Seriously, when you figure out the ending, I gaurantee you will be stalking Kenya Wright. Not for her autograph, not to take candid pictures of her eating beef stroganof, but to get her to write faster!!

Cuz lady, I gotta know how this ends!!!!

This is a review of Book 2 of the Vampire King Series, so though I will try my best not to divulge any spoilers, just be cautious if you haven't read Book 1 yet (which was GREAT!!).

On to the review:

If you are hoping that this second installment is

Steamy.... and Sexy...

You got it.

“I don’t need to be a king for you to be my queen.”
(Love this quote - le sigh)

After learning that Brie is now being hunted by his father's men, Samuel is more than determined to keep Brie at his side.

As the hunt for Brie continues, it becomes obvious to her and her company that there is more to her than they ever could imagine. And they are all determine to find out exactly who and what she is.

Though Samuel tries to convince himself that it is for her protection, in his heart he knows that his reasons for not wanting to let her go are deeper than to just protect her life. He finds himself a man in love, and Brie his queen, whether she understands it or not.

Brie is determined to fight her feelings for Samuel. She wants to be free, and not forced to be with any man.

But she is as much his, as he is hers.

Their connection is undeniable, and while in their quest for answers to their questions about Brie, it presents itself physically in Samuel. He is changing slowly into the Vampire King he is meant to be. He is growing larger, stronger, vicious, and more protective over his Queen than ever before.

The story continues to be as intricate and gorgeously molded as I hoped for and anticipated. A couple of twists that kept things from being far from boring. And of course, Kenya Wright seems to have a knack for writing some sexy moments that can certainly make you blush, and romantic scenes that just make your heart palpitate.

I can't wait to see what she has in store next.

*I received a eBook copy of this book for free to review from the author/publisher; this in no way influenced my review, all opinions are 100% honest and my own.*

Kenya Wright continues her Vampire Kings series with this second installment that feels just a little dirtier than the last. It picks up right where the story left off in Escape. Brie has discovered that her family has moved on and she has left with Samuel, determined that their relationship is only temporary. But he has other ideas. Her blood is changing him from a Prince into a King and she is the only queen he wants. He can't imagine letting her leave him.

The decision gets put on hold, however, when the Silent King sends out his guard in force to search for Brie. They almost kill Samuel's adopted mother in the process. From then, Samuel and Brie only grow closer and closer as they work side by side to evade the King's men and figure out why they want her so much. Of course there is more to it than that, but I don't want to give away any of the big reveals.

I don't know that I enjoyed this installment quite as much as the first. I think my biggest hiccup came with Samuel's uncle Ian and the way he sits on the fringe of the sexual element of Samuel and Brie's relationship. There is definitely a voyeuristic thing going on there more than once. And while that might wet somebody's whistle, it squicked me out a bit. It also bothered me some that the story went on to villainize Brie's husband. I felt like this was done to "make it ok" that she moved on. But I was already ok with it. This just made it too easy, belittling the struggle she has already faced in letting him go.

I did enjoy learning more of the backstory of the Silent King, Ian, and even Samuel's mother. Plus, we get a bit of an origin story on Brie and those who share her bloodline. The book is surprisingly dark in places, which gives it a little more depth, as well.

The ending is a bit of a cliffhanger, which always frustrates me a bit. But I am interested enough to want to keep reading and see where it goes from here.

HOW have I not discovered Kenya Wright until now??
(BTW - THANK YOU Goodreads reviewers without whom I would not have been exposed to this author!)

This is a great little three novella series.
Short, easy & fun reads with atomic heat.

I enjoyed how quickly Kenya brings you into the story in the first book, Escape. There is no slogging through pages upon pages before you feel a kinship with the heroine. Samuel is an enjoyable, if resistant hero.

Captured starts off right where Escape ended. The story gets more involved & the reader finds out more concerning Brie's capabilities.
The reader also finds out more about the Quiet King's horrible past.
New allies are presented & past betrayals are uncovered and dealt with in a satisfyingly bloodthirsty manner. (And the sex scenes are still hot!)

Can't wait to read #3!

I sat on this book for a little while after it was released. That won't happen with the next book. This series just earned it's way into my short Must-Read-on-Release-Day list.

I'm a little in awe of how well thought out this world is - the worldbuilding is airtight. Every little detail seems to have its place and it's awesome to have it revealed bit by bit.

Not that this is an academic read. OMG the smexy. There are times this book turned me into a drooling idiot over Samuel. (The poor guy can't help that he's horny - snort!)

This is the sequel to Escape and I've yet to read an unsatisfying book by Kenya. I love that she gives you world building but not so much that it become boring. There are not pages of it but you get everything you need for that scene and she builds on it as she goes.

In book one Escape, we met Brie who was trying to escape the Quiet King and Samuel who was to help her out of the city. Their romance picks up where it left off, no gaps, and Brie is still confused on if she will stay with Daniel or leave for the freedom she craves so for once she can be her own person and not a title to someone else.

Brie finally has her mind settled and then she learns more information on whom or what she might be and maybe the reason the Quiet King never touched her.

Lots of things start to change and both Brie and Samuel are force to face a life that they didn't choose and didn't really want. New allies are made and trust is broken and when it looks like all is lost the King unleashes his powers and lives will be lost and changed forever.

I wanted to give a 4.5 because this book is better than the last but I still think the next one will top it. Since there is no 4.5 I have to give a 5 even though I think Kenya will do an even better job on the next book. There is sex in the book too but not as much as the last book which I thought was good. There was a lot of new information that needed to be processed. Their attraction did not dwindle but I thought it was better managed (though it was hard). We also got more detailed information for why Samuel and Brie couldn't seem to keep their passion restrained. I love this series and I love the covers.

I received this book in exchange for an honest review.

Captured is a book that pick up right where the last book finish. It is a story of a human named Bree who was captured by vampires for the express purpose of being a domina. Domina are rare human females who are used for breeding purposes to give birth to vampire children. Bree with the help from Samuel, a vampire prince, escapes from the palace of The Quiet King who is the King of the Vampires.

Bree returns to her family after 3 years in captivity only to discover that her family thinks that she is dead and her husband has remarried. With no place else to go she decides to go to a human town name Freemount to establish a new life for herself.

Samuel and Bree arrived in Freemount to see it burning down in flames. Freemont was torched by The Quiet King guards in search to find Bree. They go immediate to the hotel that Samuel's guardian/caretaker Leeta resides and rescue her right before fire consumes her. Bree gives her blood which is known to have healing properties to treat her severe burns. An unforeseen result happens as they discover that Leeta has turned into a vampire.

Hundreds of the royal palace guards are searching for Bree. As a result she, Samuel and Leeta go into hiding searching for safe place. While in hiding they also try to search for information as to why Bree brood is more have different amplified affects from other domina. They get a lot of information from an old blind vampire name Ian and slowly begin to discover that even nothing about their escape is as it seems and there no one is who is safe not Bree nor her children.

I was ecstatic when I received an ARC of Captured by Kenya Wright, having been one of the first to read Escape-bk 1 in the Vampire Kings trilogy-I was on the edge of my seat to read bk 2. I don’t know how Kenya Wright does it, this is the first books I’ve read of hers and I am floored by how right this series is for me although it could be a bit longer for my taste.

Samuel, Brie, and Ian are back in book 2 of the Vampire King Trilogy. Captured brings us back to Brie’s escape from the Blind King and his dominion, and with Samuel’s help escape has never seemed more enjoyable.
Without giving too much away, I was engrossed from page one when both Brie and Samuel rescue Leeta, the maid who raised Samuel from an infant when the Blind King, Nai (his father) put him to death to the middle where we start to see all those wonderful drawings that Kenya included within the pages of the story, not to mention all that oozing sexual compatibility between Brie and Samuel; to the heart wrenching end when blood ties between friends are broken and Brie is on the brink of… Well, I’ll let you read for yourself.
I can’t wait for Freed, bk 3 but at the same time I really don’t want bk 3 to be the end of this sexual intensity between two (or three if you count Ian), amazing characters. All good things must come to an end though right?

Typically I don’t say this but, this is not a standalone - DO NOT READ THIS without first reading Escape. I was excited to discover that Captured pickup where Escape left off; without missing a beat. Once you open this book there is no stopping point – it is an adrenaline rush – so make sure you allot adequate reading time. The author kept the characters, plot, and pace from the first book and added more fervor.

Oh My Goodness! I want more! This series is going from strength to strength.

Once again we venture into the realm of the Quiet King, with many a revelation about the core characters we were introduced to in Escape, with a few new faces adding spice to an already vivacious world and story.

Samuel and Brie are still on the run, but this time it seems the pursuit has escalated, and with it comes the disclosure of information vital to the secrets behind the Quiet King's reign and how Samuel and Brie must come together in more ways than one for the sake of the realm.

Hot and sexy with intriguing plots and beautifully realised characters, Kenya Wright's Vampire King series is a must-read for anyone who loves paranormal fiction.

Looking forward to the next installment :)

Wow.....loved it. Brilliant plot and characters, it kept me hooked until the end. I'm looking forward to reading more about Ian ;)
My only issue was the way some of it flowed, but that might just be me, maybe that's the idea?

Back to more important things........Kenya.... how could you leave it like that......I need more :)

***I received a free copy in exchange for a book review***

I loved this 15 chapter book. It was told through Brie’s first person point-of-view. I liked how it started where it left off in the first book of the series. The same characters were introduced, some even had larger roles. Octavia and her mom had a lot to do with the ending (in the first book, their motives were told but only glossed over. With Captured, readers see how desperate they truly are to make Samuel the Vampire King).

I loved the twists and turns. Samuel thought of Ty, Ty’s wife, and Leeta as people who truly cared for him. In this book, we found out the truth. According to legends, humans can’t turn into vampires. Vampires have to be birthed by at least one vampire parent. Well, Brie was way more powerful than a regular domina. No wonder she was held as a special captive. I even liked learning the scheme of her husband. The characters were definitely sneaky and three-dimensional.

My favorite line: “You said you understood my need to start a new life.” The words came out a little shaky as I took Samuel’s huge form. “I won’t be your prisoner.” Brie wanted to travel to Mage Territory where vampires are forbidden to walk on the land. Samuel wants to protect her and believes they can make a relationship work, so he doesn’t want to let her go. Their confrontational scenes were hot and steamy! It definitely seemed like, in this book, they didn’t care if other people watched them get intimate.

The ending was stellar, leaving things as a cliffhanger. I’m excited to see what the next book in the series brings.

I RECOMMEND this book to read.

Title: Captive

Author: Kenya Wright

Genre: Paranormal

Rating: 3/5 Star

I was given the opportunity to read the unique story of Samuel and Brie in Captive. I did read the novella, Escape, prior to reading this book.

It was difficult at first to capture the world that the author was trying to build, but as the story moved forward, the world building was actually quite interesting. The idea of dominas having to serve a Vampire King and produce a multitude of children in order to maintain and defend a kingdom was very clever. And the fact that these children turn into full adults after four years was a concept which was also quite different. The plot, however, seemed to wax and wane throughout the story. And although there were wonderfully exciting parts, it seemed disconnected and just didn’t flow as well as I would have liked it. There were parts of the story that I had difficulty believing.

Even with that said, I did enjoy certain characters, especially Uncle Ian. The concept of his curse and what left him down in the sewer of the city was quite fascinating to me, and I think it would be quite interesting to hear his story. In fact, his background story is what really drew me in. I loved that he was manipulative but caring, yet self-serving as well. He needed his curse broken and he found a way to do this, all the while he was still protective of his nephew and his Queen. He also happened to be quite the ladies’ man as well.

What an amazing continuation from book 1 (Escape). So sexy, exciting, fun and addictive! Captured is a definite MUST read for all fans of the genre that enjoy a great story with a side of hot alpha vamp :)

Samuel is one smexy debil! He’s a vampire I definitely would not mind running into, in a dark alley, late at night, half clothed… Anyway, he loves his queen. Will do anything for the woman that has stolen his heart and proves it many times over in this book alone! *sigh*

Brie is at a bit of a crossroads. She cares deeply for her king and his alluring ways. But is determined to be free. To roam, explore and live. Do all that she’s never done before. Now the question is, will she stay with Samuel, or will she go?

Oh man am I looking forward to the next in the series! I want, no NEED to see what happens from where it left off here. For those of you reading this review… PLEASE read book 1 first. Kenya wrote it so wonderfully that it can be read as a stand-alone. But you’ll miss out on tons of excitement and build if you don’t. Just saying.

Wow....I didn't think this series could get any better but it does! Kenya totally outdoes herself in "Captured", the second book in 'The Vampire King Series' with her strong characters and vivid imagination. The book picks right up where the first book ended and adds a few new twists and turns into the story line. Now I can't wait and see what happens in book three of the series "Freed" which is coming soon, but not soon enough for me.

I gave this 3 stars because I HATE stories that just stop and leave you hanging. Honestly, if her character development wasn't great, and her world building skills superb, I would have given it 1 or 2 stars, because it just made me mad! It's one thing to finish one part of a story and leave you wanting more, but this just stops and leaves you wanting to turn the page but the pages are missing. YUCK! *rant ended*

I enjoyed the the drama and suspense I must I didn't expect the betrayal and his mother is a total bitch.

I loved that he loves and adores his Domina to the point that he would kill for her. I am upset but glad that Leeta didn't stay on the wrong side and that Brie survived, because as he said the castle is going to run red. But would have been drenched in blood from killing everyone if his Queen had died.

Skipped a lot of erotic scenes (yawn worthy) and unnecessary repetition from previous book. Still my attention keeps unsolved questions from Brie's, Ian's and Quiet King's past:)
