Holy Moly what a wild ride! I’m drawn like a moth to a flame to a well-written Nordic thriller. This hypnotic, all-consuming read ticked all the right boxes for me…suspenseful anticipation; good character development and emotional and moral appeal. If you were a fan of the Scandinavian crime novels of Stieg Larsson, then this one is for you.
The setting is mostly in the rugged Nordic country of Finnmark, northern Norway where a young couple’s mountain expedition changes into a nightmare when they become human targets stalked to their death by a well-organized hunting club of elite Danish businessmen.
The two main characters include Michael Sander, a private investigator and a police detective, Lene Jenesen. Their seemingly disparate storylines eventually interlink to create a complicated plot that never loses the reader’s interest throughout the novel. Even if you figure out the mystery, you will want to see how Lene and Michael handle the answers they uncover.
The vivid descriptions of the rugged mountains, steep cliffs and barren landscape add another dimension to this frosty tale.

I’m looking forward to the next installment of this series. So far, this is the only novel translated into English by this author. I found this mystery riveting and unputdownable and I highly recommend!

Thriller nórdico, frío, duro, violento, agreste, con bastantes escenas de acción y alguna escena "sensible".
No sé si sería más acertado usar como título Trofeo o Cacería.
Michael Sanders es contratado como investigador privado para que investigue un DVD que contiene imágenes de su padre, el socio de una gran empresa tecnológica, ya fallecido.
Mientras, la inspectora Lene Jensen tiene que investigar la muerte de un hombre, un veterano de guerra.
El DVD contiene escenas de una cacería humana, donde aparecen algunos veteranos de guerra. Ya tenemos el nexo de unión para que Sanders y Jensen, dos lobos solitarios, acaben investigando juntos.
En general la trama fluye, lástima de los errores de edición y traducción que afean tanto un libro y en alguna ocasión me han obligado a releer un párrafo. Nuestros investigadores tendrán que descubrir quién está detrás de las cacerías y vivirán momentos tensos y duros -en especial la inspectora Jensen-. Algunas escenas son un poco de película, no es que salgan indemnes es que son situaciones llevadas al límite y cuidadas al detalle. Otras son escenas un tanto "sensibles". Os podéis imaginar cómo puede ser perseguir e investigar a unos mercenarios que disponen de todas las armas y recursos. Una lucha a muerte.
La ambientación es buena y las descripciones abundantes, llegando a bajar al detalle en algunas escenas de acción. No es una novela de ritmo trepidante, aunque tampoco lento. Resulta adictiva, te engancha y no la puedes soltar. Intuyes algunas cosas, pero quieres seguir leyendo para que te las confirmen y seguir avanzando, descubriendo como se resolverá el siguiente hito, como saldrán de esa situación o que más puede ocurrir. Es un caso cerrado, en el epílogo se aclara alguna cuestión que ni te habías planteado y se confirma alguna que habías sospechado en algún momento.
Los personajes principales están bien trabajados, en especial me quedo con Jensen. Forman buen tándem Sander y Jensen. Este es el primer caso de una serie, me gustaría que tradujesen el resto de libros.
Al libro le daría una puntuación de 9/10, pero le quito un punto por esos feos detalles de edición/traducción.

This is a Scandinavian thriller/mystery that I have to tell you starts with one of the most bone chilling, horrifying, nail biting, creepy scenes I have ever seen a book start with. Seriously. This book is quite good.
So you probably know what it is about..a detective, Michael is hired to find out more about a group of Elite executives who hunt..Gasp..humans. This book is seriously one of the creepiest works of fiction I have ever read.
This is no "Hunger Games". This is contemporary fiction..no Dystopian novel..this takes place in Denmark in current times. The atmosphere is chilling and frosty throughout the book.
So Michael and a female police officer, who is involved in another case, team up to find out what exactly is going on. Folks this is no cozy mystery. It is haunting, Visceral and wonderfully written. I was chilled. I really was.
ENDING SPOILERS SO STOP HERE IF YOU HAVE NOT READ IT THOUGH I SURE RECOMMEND YOU DO:
I was a bit bothered by the ending which is why I give it four and not five stars. Some things did not seem to fit. So Jake was in on it all along? But how could he be if he was away when his girlfriend was hunted? I needed a little closure about Jake because I really did not understand his character and I wanted to fully grasp the ending. I still think this was an incredible read though.

Aunque al principio me costó engancharme a la trama es un libro brutal que no te da tregua y sentí que en el final baja un poco el ritmo respecto al resto del libro, aún así me gustó mucho.
La trama comienza cuando Elizabeth Caspersen tras la muerte de su padre encuentra un DVD en la caja fuerte de su padre y entonces contrata a Michael Sander para investigar si su padre es un "degenerado". El contenido del disco es una cacería humana, la cual está integrada por varios participantes, y en la cual acaban dando muerte a un hombre joven.
Por otra parte, también veremos la investigación de Lene Jensen del suicidio de Kim Andersen, un veterano de guerra, y acabará colaborando con Michael Sander, al ver que sus investigaciones están relacionadas.
La novela es brutal, y en algunos momentos se me han puesto los pelos de punta, con ciertas escenas. Los protagonistas me han encantado, muy bien perfilados, pero me ha gustado más Michael Sander, del resto de personajes, que puedo decir, vaya elenco.......a cual peor.

"Trophy" is not only the absolute best Scandinavian thriller I've ever had the pleasure of reading but one of the best worldwide. The break neck pace, dynamic characters, brilliant translation and totally compelling story lines grabbed me by the throat. My first mystery/thriller from Denmark is clearly in a class with Jo Nesbo and the late Steig Larsen. "Trophy" and subsequent books by orthopedic surgeon and successful novelist Steffen Jacobsen should be on everyone's "Must Read: Thriller" list. You most certainly will not disappointed!

Psychopathic men engage in the most dangerous game—hunting and killing humans. Lene and Michael hunt them down after they torture Lene's daughter. Disturbing scenes that might trigger some.

"Michael Sander y Lene Jensen han llegado para arrasar. Como inicio de saga, ambos protagonistas están bien presentados. Tienen luces y sombras, son fuertes y, al mismo tiempo, vulnerables, pero nunca se rinden. Un DVD y un presunto suicidio conseguirán que sus caminos se acaben cruzando. Aunque la historia tarda un poco en arrancar de verdad, la lectura sabe mantener la atención en todo momento. Hay escenas duras, pero todas tienen un sentido dentro de la trama. Las sorpresas están dosificadas y, a pesar de que ninguna fue brutal, lograron que siempre hubiera un toque de incertidumbre. Al llegar al final, no queda ningún interrogante sin resolver, pero sí que quedan muchas ganas de seguir viendo a Michael y a Lene en acción".

Una novela de las que enganchan , pero no justo al principio, cuando conoces a la detective Lene y a otro personaje, Michael. Una historia un poco cruenta por la trama, pero nada gore y de las que necesitas seguir leyendo porque no puedes parar. Personajes bien trazados, humanos, con sus miedos y con sus sueños, prudentes unos, salvajes otros. Me declaro fan de este autor, buscaré las otras dos novelas que tiene publicadas sin duda, lo recomiendo.

Whew! Steffen Jacobsen is probably the new man in town! Although I think he is far more on the page of a Harlan Coban than say a Jo Nesbo. Be patient with me a moment as I put this book more squarely into a category before I delve into reaction. Thriller! Action! Horror! Special Ops! It bridges all in a way that the other Nordic scores of successful dire procedural and copper series rarely skirt. It's MORE violent and not just in the physical. It centers on mental and physical torture. Few are stating that in their reviews. Be warned as many readers might easily consider this particular tale as beyond their evil curve.
Yes, it is very violent. Now as I review, I think it may be the most violent book I've read this year so far and it is September already. And yet, it holds no foul language or swear affinities and just one tiny bit of any erotica when a clothing article becomes disarrayed.
It's nugget, the core issue, surrounds a group of men in a "club"- a hunting club. World wide and multiple continent past trip bags of rhinos, elephants, big game of all kind. Ex-soldiers or military or special ops of Danish High Guards or other units associated. One marries an English girl and the story of their history/consequences too, is a pivot to the book. His name is Kim. But first you are put into one of their outings in Norway's wilderness. You ARE right into the meaty and chewy immediately. Does it pack a wallop within the first 60 pages!
The pace of this book gallops. It's long, a bit too long. At about 220 until 300 there was a slower canter, but you never lolled or stopped to chew some daisies. In fact, there are NO daisies in this book. Humans are in majority to all the principles and players- hard core and evil duplicitous. Even the "good" guys. Or in this case the good guy and good gals. Our associative superintendent and her boss the high superintendent are tough, tough.
The language is clear and there are no words that need to be investigated or researched. In fact the translation is 5 star- even to the point of understanding that there are different spellings of UK English and American English for the same words. Also the morose Scandinavian "norm" is less front stage and center as it is in some of the other prime writers for that category. It's quite close to an Anne Holt in the "eyes", especially in 1222 when she has age. Joy is just a slight bit more than the absence of present moment physical pain, but STILL the wider life view is fatalistic and holds very little, if any, spiritual or altruistic structures. Except triumph or conquest joy- EXACTLY as held by the Vikings and their god worship paradigm. Thor, Odin, Balder, Frigg, Tyr- the are all strongly present? You can see them marching right in. Although it isn't accompanied by old Norse songs but by Queen's "We Will Rock You". And I'm going to think of this book every time I hear that song now.
Man hunting. Group think made solid. And from the first chapter disdain drips from the author's context eyes against "the rich". To a hate level, a repulsive quality not hidden; it really turns me off to be truthful. All "group think" assumptions present and raising their hands from page 1. Very visible and to me, very off-putting.
There is a part around page 190 and beyond that is stomach turning and could cause severe nightmares. Especially if you believe water boarding is torture. This is torture times 10 for that scale. Be warned.
Because I read too many whodunits stuck into the military or spy ring circles, I knew who the "bad guy" was in this club (the hidden member in the photos) just past the half way point. But there are so many "bad" beyond him that I did not see at all the 2 reversals/reveals in the last 60 pages. No, I just counted- there are actually 3 kinky reveals. No one is honest or truth telling above aboard, not in majority of known action. Always something concealed or secret.
Opium trade, casino money laundering in the Western Caribbean (more numbered and hidden accounts than Switzerland by far now) and a fair number of other cabals are also taking parts along the way.
Michael Sander is the main hired help. But he has so many scars that I feel prequels will be more evident than post sequential coming up ahead. Just a guess.
I did not give it 5 stars only because it held that scene around page 190 to such a "stick in the eye" degree that I would balk, and might pale at reading another of his. Possibly as well written as they are, it's brutal too.

Después del fiasco de lectura que tuve con Oxen, decidí dar una nueva oportunidad a los nórdicos y...y esta vez creo que he acertado en la lectura.
Me ha resultado muy entretenido de leer y aunque es bastante previsible debo decir que el capítulo final me ha sorprendido mucho, la verdad...me ha gustado.
Eso sí, la traducción al castellano es bastante horrorosa. Traducido una vez más por alguien que no escribe correctamente en castellano aunque sea española, pero también partes que se notan traducidas por traductor automático por su literalidad y que hacen que algunos párrafos haya que releerlos. He tratado que no me amargue la lectura, pero a veces era complicado.
Si sois capaces de ignorar el trabajo de traducción y corrección, el libro es recomendable

Una novela nórdica bastante fuerte, con un primer capítulo que te deja sin palabras y con un frío en el cuerpo. Nada es lo que parece, todo se en revesa y solo Michael y Lene serán capaces de descubrirlo todo.
Es el primer libro de una saga nórdica (en español solo está este publicado) y se nota en su ritmo más pausado y en posicionarse para los siguientes. Hay capítulos que me han mantenido en vilo (sobre todo uno en un momento justo) y otros se me han hecho un poco pesados. Tiene partes de acción, partes de conocer a los personajes más en profundidad junto a su pasado, y una investigación minuciosa y cuidada. El autor es detallista en su escritura.
Lene y Michael Sanders son los protagonistas. Ella policía, el detective privado. Son lobos solitarios, pero tendrán que unirse si quieren resolver lo que tienen ambos entre manos. Lo malo de las novelas nórdicas son los nombres, tan poco acostumbrada a ellos me lío hasta en los personajes secundarios. Tiene algunas escenas bastante fuertes y sangrientas.
En general la novela entretiene, pero no esperéis un thriller frenético y que come terreno. Es más bien para leer tranquilamente por la cantidad de información que tiene.

Primer libro de una serie, de la que hay ya cinco, aunque en español solo tengamos la primera ( y la traducción necesita un repaso) y espero que la editorial traduzca las demas.
Lo primero decir que el primer capitulo es fuerte, de esas escenas que te dejan flipando y que necesita seguir para saber si es asi...
Uno de los protas, Michael es contratado para averiguar que esta pasando con un grupo de personas (personas de élite) que cazan... ( y no diré que cazan). Y por otro lado la otra prota Lene Jensen, inspectora de policia, fuerte, muy buena en su trabajo, que estará investigando un segundo caso... ambos protas acabaran juntos ya que sus caminos tendran mucho que ver...
Es una lectura que devoras, que te mantiene super enganchado, muy común en los thriller nórdicos, tiene escenas bastante duras, por lo que para gente sensible, olvidaos.
Me ha gustado mucho el ritmo y todo lo que va pasando, que es mucho mas de lo que te puedes llegar a imaginar, es verdad que al final pierde un poco de fuelle, y que hay alguna cosa que no tiene mucho sentido.
Deja la trama principal completamente cerrada, cosa que agradezco siempre, pero evidentemente deja una puertecita para ese segundo libro, donde espero que conozcamos más a los personajes
Asique si te gustan el thriller nórdico un poco macabro, y que no puedas parar de leer, te lo recomiendo mucho.

Casperson had built his business empire on technology crucial to military weapon systems, but is quickly revealed as financially rich but morally bankrupt with the discovery of a DVD implicating him in a macabre human manhunt for sport. His daughter, and potential heir to the family business-Sonartek- enlists the help of deep cover investigator Michael Sander, to discover her father’s role in this dark past-time, and as it happens its connection to the strange suicide of an ex-soldier, Kim Anderson, on his wedding day being investigated by feisty detective Lene Jensen. As Sander and Jensen’s paths cross in the course of their separate investigations, they find themselves embroiled in a sinister and violent conspiracy, and the exposure of some unsettling truths which threaten both their lives.
The characterisation throughout the book is absolutely superb, and Jacobsen’s central protagonists of Sander and Jensen, carry the book effortlessly throughout. Sander is a wonderful construct, with all the nous and cynicism of a traditional hardbitten private detective, operating below the radar of mainstream society and a difficult man to enlist for hire. He is singularly unimpressed by the wealth and power of the Caspersons, and of Casperson’s shady business partner, Victor Schmidt and his sons, Henrik and Jakob, but this a lucrative investigation and his moral integrity is at the fore in his decision to get to the heart of this dark and morally baseless crime. Jensen proves herself a wonderful foil to Sander throughout the book, with her sense of justice equally inflamed by the repercussions of his investigation, onto her own into the senseless suicide of Anderson and the unearthing of his connection to the Caspersons. It was heartening to read a thriller not based on any unbelievable sexual tensions between Sander and Jensen, and I loved the equal balance of power and tenacity afforded to both characters regardless of gender, and the personal moments of crisis that arise for them when their investigation reverberates into the lives of family and friends. Jacobsen also succeeds fully in his characterisation of the Caspersons and Schmidts, with their battle for supremacy and control in the Sonartek empire, fuelled by greed and a moral bankruptcy that was shocking but entirely believable.
The plotting was terrific throughout, and I loved the way that Jacobsen incorporated the military detail of the backgrounds of some of the protagonists, pivoting the location of the book between Kosovo, Iraq and Afghanistan and Scandinavia. The relentless pace of Sander and Jensen’s striving for the truth, is interspersed with scenes that are shocking and violent, and consequently this was a book that could not be left alone for long. The denouement of the book is excellent and mirrors completely the shock value of the opening chapter, with a neat and entirely credible twist at the end as well. Another winner for me from Jacobsen, and a testament to the continuing rude health of the Scandinavian crime genre. Fully deserving of a trophy itself!

Al fallecimiento de un magnate dueño de la mitad de una empresa que tiene el monopolio de la tecnología del sonar, su hija, una abogada que ha pasado a ocuparse de sus asuntos, se topa con un CD que contiene la grabación de un hecho de sangre aborrecible, por lo que para averiguar si su padre estaba implicado y en que forma, contrata los servicios de un brillante investigador privado, cuyos antecedentes lo hacen idóneo para tal tarea.
A partir de aquí iremos adentrándonos en la búsqueda de lo que realmente sucedió a la pareja del cd y sobre quienes serían los culpables de tal atrocidad. No pretendo hacer ningún spoiler, ya que la misma sinopsis revela que nos encontramos ante una cacería humana, así que en líneas generales ya se pueden imaginar como se va desarrollando la trama.
Me ha parecido una historia bien elaborada, con una buena dosis de intriga, sin olvidar el ambiente opresivo que vivieron algunos personajes.
A partir de aquí iremos adentrándonos en la búsqueda de lo que realmente sucedió a la pareja del cd y sobre quienes serían los culpables de tal atrocidad. Unglaublich spannendes Szenario, keine Zeile langweilig! Hätte ich mehr Zeit gehabt, hätte ich das Buch wahrscheinlich schon innerhalb eines Tages inhaliert gehabt. Dringende Empfehlung an alle Freunde des skandinavischen Krimis! ;)
(PS: Band 2 ist auch klasse, den hatte ich schon vor längerem gelesen)

Entretenido, a ratos con mucha tensión, pero no es trepidante, no es un no parar de morderte las uñas. La premisa inicial, la investigación sobre una cacería humana, desde luego resulta atrayente e intrigante, aunque a veces la investigación me ha resultado demasiado Equipo A.

I've had this book for a year in my kindle and decided to give it a go. It is really a five star book, and I planned on giving it that, but then I read the ending. This book is fantastic and suspense driven. It's got a lot to it, and although that's good as it makes for complex story, it's got it's downside as well. It means many a detail needs wrapping up at one point and I'm a stickler for details. Loose threads bother me. There were some things that really bugged me. I guess the more I care about the story the more I need things to make sense. If I'm not fully invested in a book then it's not as important. Well, I was FULLY into this tale. Riveted you could say. So these things matter to me. The theft of the horns is a big sticking point as they're never fully explained to the readers satisfaction. A GPS bug in Lene's boss's car? When did the bad guys put it there? They had no idea of her ruse when she left the hospital and that's the only time they could have done it. Logically that was the only time that made sense and we know they didn't know it or they would have known Josefine's whereabouts. And they admitted they didn't. Then the twist at the end with the widow. Nah. Not fully explaining Jakob's situation was also frustrating because we don't know if he knew about what his brother was up to fully. Seems like it but yet then why would he be mad about his girlfriend? The author would have us believe that Henrick has more sway with the rotten soldiers than Jakob, when in fact it's Jakob that served! Not Henrick. Jakobs's own mates would go behind his back and kill his woman? Huh? And what was Charlotte's deal? Why did she need Michael to think Kim did the rhino horn heist? The whole horn heist was worthless in my opinion. Great book, but because I loved it so much I'm really irked. I wanted more closure!

Me ha gustado mucho, el libro me ha gustado mucho. Me ha parecido muy duro sobre todo en el 40% del libro.
Me gusta cómo se llevan las investigaciones en paralelo hasta llegar a un punto común. Me gusta cómo se va tejiendo la historia y cómo se va desentrañando el misterio.
Se ve que se empieza una saga con un tandem Mickael / Lene. Ya iremos viendo los siguientes.

“La cacería” es la primera entrega en una nueva serie de thrillers nórdicos, y cumple a la perfección con los rasgos que caracterizan las historias de este género: una atmósfera sombría en la que se muestra la cara más brutal y oscura de la, en apariencia tranquila y civilizada, sociedad nórdica. Y lo deja claro desde su primer capítulo, con una escena de esas difíciles de olvidar.
El investigador privado Michael Dander es contratado para investigar la aparición de un DVD que muestras imágenes de una cacería humana, y que ha sido encontrado en una caja fuerte tras el fallecimiento del patriarca de una poderosa familia. Al mismo tiempo, la detective Lene Jensen se encuentra al frente de la investigación del suicido de un ex-soldado el día después de su boda. En el curso de sus investigaciones su caminos se cruzarán, dejando al descubierto una compleja y siniestra red de violencia que pondrá sus vidas en peligro.
A pesar de no tener un ritmo frenético, “La cacería” es un thriller que no podrás soltar. La violencia, la falta de moralidad, la avaricia y las luchas de poder en ciertos grupos sociales (sobre todo en esas clases altas que se creen por encima del bien y del mal, y que piensan que el hecho de tener dinero les convierte en dioses), son los elementos clave de una historia que no deja indiferente. Las investigaciones llevadas a cabo por los dos protagonistas consiguen mantener el interés del lector desde el comienzo y, desde el momento en que confluyen, ya no dan tregua, desembocando en un final que actúa como reflejo de ese impactante primer capítulo. Aunque fue en parte predecible, no por ello resultó menos satisfactorio, especialmente tras la revelación realizada en las últimas páginas).
La caracterización de los personajes es magnífica. Sander y Jensen llevan todo el peso de la historia sobre sus hombros sin ningún esfuerzo. El cinismo de Michael no le impide tener una profunda integridad moral, no dejándose deslumbrar por el poder y la riqueza de aquellos que investiga. Lene es una mujer dura con un fuerte sentido de la justicia, que no se verá debilitado ni aún cuando su propia vida personal se vea afectada.
Me gustó que ambos personajes se encontrasen al mismo nivel, no adquiriendo uno el rol de “salvador” y el otro de “salvado”, y que no hubiese ningún tipo de tensión sexual entre ellos, tan frecuente cuando de parejas de investigadores se trata y que solo sirve para distraer de la trama principal.
Unos buenos personajes, una trama aterradora y una atmósfera electrizante son los principales ingredientes de un thriller que te absorberá, perfecto para fans de Stieg Larsson y la saga Millenium.

Finalizada. Edición en audiolibro. Comienzo de una saga con Jensen y Sander como protagonistas. Nos encontramos con una novela muy negra y muy nórdica, con todos las características que la clasifican como tal. Por ponerle un pero diría los diálogos de los dos protagonistas. En algún momento los encontré forzados, pero podría ser fruto de la traducción. Sin duda es una saga que seguiré de cerca y, en caso de nuevas entregas, leeré sin duda. Si eres de estómago delicado y no te gustan las descripciones un poco gore, huye de ella. Nota 4/5. FIN.

Cuando empecé este libro no se qué me esperaba. No mucho la verdad: un thriller sobre un hecho que ya ha aparecido en varias películas (la caza humana). Me esperaba un libro entretenido sin más, y al principio con los primeros capítulos parecía que se iba a cumplir. Pero al ir avanzando con la lectura pasó de entretenido a absorbente, de ameno a un chute de adrenalina pura. Un libro que mantiene la tensión en todo momento, que te hace dudar de todo y todos, con escenas violentas y duras, muy duras. Lo he terminado prácticamente en un día, haciendo lo imposible por no dormirme para terminarlo antes de acostarme.
Michael Sander es un detective privado muy peculiar, no se dedica precisamente a perseguir maridos infieles sino que se especializa en casos muy delicados, tanto por el trasfondo de la investigación como por su confidencialidad. Lene Jensen es una inspectora de policía, ruda y solitaria, que no tiene pelos en la lengua y a la que su jefa solo tolera porque es buena en su trabajo.
Estos son los dos protagonistas de la trama de este libro. Sus caminos se cruzan cuando Sander es contratado por una millonaria para investigar un vídeo de una cacería humana que ha encontrado entre las pertenencias de su padre recientemente fallecido, y Jensen investiga el misterioso suicidio de un ex-militar al día siguiente de su boda. Dos casos aparentemente sin conexión, pero que acaban cruzando los caminos de estos dos lobos solitarios.
Como ya he dicho, la lectura resulta intensa, adrenalínica, adictiva, con escenas muy duras en violencia y una investigación que va más allá de lo esperado. Os recomiendo encarecidamente su lectura.

This was a corker of a thriller, with a character (Michael) I immediately fell in love with, an extremely intriguing and horrific premise turning into a wonderfully twisty turny tale to boot.
The opening packs a heck of a punch and throws you straight into proceedings with barely time to draw breath. Enter Michael Sanders, hired by a rich and influential woman to investigate a mysterious video and from there things only get more and more exciting. As he teems up with Superintendant Lene Jensen to track down some truly evil bad guys, the whole thing is utterly addictive, brilliantly written and just a little bit insane. Fantastic.
Michael and Lene are both extremely intriguing characters who I feel we have only scratched the surface of here. They, ( and their completely platonic relationship which makes a change ) are very compelling and the situation they find themselves in is both unreal and terribly dangerous. Thrown together by circumstance, despite the thriller aspect of the story, they ground it and make it all so much more engaging overall. A character driven spine chiller of the highest order.
The story flows along at a hectic pace, keeping you turning those pages, a range of eclectic supporting characters are thrown into the mix and the whole thing has an almost guilty pleasure feel to it – Steffen Jacobsen paints a picture of villainy with a deft hand and whilst it is utterly horrifying you still cannot look away.
Overall a most terrific read – can we hope that this is the start of a series? I would very much hope so…

This was a corker of a thriller, with a character (Michael) I immediately fell in love with, an extremely intriguing and horrific premise turning into a wonderfully twisty turny tale to boot.
The opening packs a heck of a punch and throws you straight into proceedings with barely time to draw breath. Enter Michael Sanders, hired by a rich and influential woman to investigate a mysterious video and from there things only get more and more exciting. As he teems up with Superintendant Lene Jensen to track down some truly evil bad guys, the whole thing is utterly addictive, brilliantly written and just a little bit insane. Fantastic.
Michael and Lene are both extremely intriguing characters who I feel we have only scratched the surface of here. They, ( and their completely platonic relationship which makes a change ) are very compelling and the situation they find themselves in is both unreal and terribly dangerous. Thrown together by circumstance, despite the thriller aspect of the story, they ground it and make it all so much more engaging overall. A character driven spine chiller of the highest order.
The story flows along at a hectic pace, keeping you turning those pages, a range of eclectic supporting characters are thrown into the mix and the whole thing has an almost guilty pleasure feel to it – Steffen Jacobsen paints a picture of villainy with a deft hand and whilst it is utterly horrifying you still cannot look away.
Overall a most terrific read – can we hope that this is the start of a series? I would very much hope so…

One of the Best Thrillers I’ve Read
Danish writer Steffen Jacobsen sets this suspense novel in Denmark and the northernmost part of Norway where wealthy, psychopathic men engage in the most dangerous game—hunting and killing humans. The story features influential and powerful families, former military men who still ply their trade in their home countries, and regular folk whose lives are destroyed by men who will do anything to protect themselves and their “hunting clients.” The complex plot is well-thought out with enough twists to have kept me churning through this book. A huge plus: two fascinating (but not too flawed) protagonists and several truly evil villains. I enjoyed being surprised by the supporting characters’ hidden motives and often unexpected actions. Very interesting and satisfying ending(s).

一週前開始看的，今天一口氣把剩下的55%給看完了。
行文流暢，敘述到位。整體描述風格硬冷，人物塑造與細節值得推敲。
臉譜出版的版本唯一缺點是簡介劇透太過分了……直接劇透到了整本書大約一半的部分，想買來看的話不建議讀簡介直接從頭開始就好。
查了一下13年的小說，15年翻譯引進，當時說要拍電影，結果好像後面沒聲音了？

Jag har kastat mig över den så fort jag fått tillfälle och saknat den när jag gjort annat. Det, mina vänner, är ett bra betyg. Det är en häpnadsväckande och mörkaste mörk berättelse som lyckas med konststycket att bli verklighetstrogen. Den är rå och otäck på bästa sätt, med levande personporträtt och en intensiv spänning. 5/5 🫀
