First of all, let me state that This author in very good to her readers because...
This. Story. Did. Not. Disappoint.
Although we had to wait a little while for part two in this series, it was worth all the wait. Terrible lies, is everything a sequel ought be.
Terrible lies picks up exactly were Thirty Seconds to Die left off, which was with us dangling in mid air. (no hard feelings lol)
Lexi and Ren pick up their story, which was so captivating in book one, in this sequel.
I couldn't help but NEED book two. Seriously!
I won't talk too much about details of the actual story, because I'm afraid I'll give something away.
Just know this, I'm very happy to report that the author answers all our questions, and then some. She even gives US, fans of this series, more than what we could have ever asked for.
Terrible Lies is fast-paced and action packed. There is not one moment of downtime in the story.
The writing and the flow of the story is superb.
It plays out like a movie in your head. At one point, things got so intense, I had to get up and pause the movie to make myself some popcorn. Well, not really. In reality, all I did was bookmark my chapter, but try telling that to my brain, which remembers watching a movie.
All I know, is that I kept on staring at a screen, while munching on a BIG bowl of popcorn!!
That's how good the action and the story is.
The story was full of action and suspense, but it didn't end there. Let's be honest, I like action and suspense as much as any girl, but I'm really there for the LOVE story. Oh and what a story. Enthralling love story of both requited and unrequited love. The best part about the love story is that it's not just romantic love either, but also the love of family. The theme of family is very strong throughout this whole book and I was surprisingly shocked to find out that I really enjoyed it. It was not boring or out of place.
I didn't find any part in this book out of place or unnecessary. I loved it and needed it ALL! The whole plot and all it's characters flowed beautifully.
If you are a fan of Thirty seconds to die, then Terrible Lies is A must read.
I'm REALLY excited to read more from this author in the future.
Firstly, let me say that this series is not my usual style of book. I'm a straight up romance kinda gal and this book is so much more than just a romance. BUT, the fact that I love it so much is a good indication of its greatness.
Terrible Lies is an action-packed, mysterious, world-exploring extension of Thirty Seconds To Die and while I love them both I actually prefer this edition. I was constantly on edge and anticipating twists and turns only to be faced with different twists and turns.
If you liked the first you will love the second. And I'm wishing on all of the stars that there will be a third!
I absolutely loved this book. Having read the first book in the series, Thirty seconds to die, I have been anticipating the release of this book for what feels like ages. I was heartbroken when Lexi left Ren and jumped at the first opportunity I could get to continue their story.
Book two picks up straight from where we were left hanging in book one. Lexi is heart broken and devastated that she had to leave Ren, but she has to do whatever necessary to protect him, even if that means being without him. As the protector of the passage , she has closed the passage for the souls and has fulfilled her destiny. She is still in danger from the Sentori and decides she needs to lay low and hide for a while. She does this with the help of Neko, who takes her home to Alaska.
Being away from the people she loves and having Neko on her back for leaving Ren, Lexi really struggles emotionally. She's alone, consumed with memories and dreams that haunt her sleep, she's broken.
"I'd gone from feeling cherished and protected to the absolute emptiness of being alone. I had to forget the strength of his arms surrounding me, his kiss, his smile that was only for me, and the finality of him whispering the words I love you in my ear."
Just when you think that she can't handle anymore, Ren shows up. He's given her space, but he needs her.
"See, Lex, you left something behind in Greenland and I wanted to bring it to you in case you didn't mean to leave it behind. I thought you'd made a mistake."
Melting moment right there. Ren is back to protect Lexi no matter what the cost. He loves her so intensely that he can't bear to be apart from her. He needs her in his life, but now more than ever he needs to prove to her that she can trust him.
Deciding to finally end this once and for all Ren decides to go after the source of all their problems, the Sentori. He wants a " normal" life with Lexi, but while they are lurking in the darkness and haunting Lexi, this will not be possible until they are stopped.
With Ren often being away from home, Lexi is left on her own. She tries to lead an everyday life, but she fears for his safety. On one particular day, she's yet again being followed. She recognizes the woman following her as the same woman from Alaska. Her name is Chalon, she has a message for Ren but she can't be the one to deliver the message. He needs someone he can trust. She hands Lexi two journals which contain hidden secrets that could change everything. It's up to Lexi to decide what to do with them.
This book takes on a number of twists and turns, when a dark family secret that could possibly destroy Ren and the relationship with his family and even Lexi is revealed. It's Lexis turn to be there for Ren, to help him through this time ,to get him to dig deep within himself and come out fighting.
I love the strength and sometimes dominance in Ren's character. He's strong and takes charge and really does protect the people he loves. He's charming and romantic and just perfect.
Lexi is strong and I love the way her strength is portrayed when she has to push her emotions aside and deal with whatever situation she is faced with. She's stronger and more determined to fight for her relationship and to take down the Sentori.
I was hooked from the 1st page, SG Holster has written an amazing book filled with massive twists and turns, suspense, drama, romance and tension all rolled into one. All though the book ended brilliantly She had me wanting more when the book ended. It was that great.
I loved Thirty Seconds to die and was shattered by the ending... SG, Juewelz and Ally Knows I am TeamRen forever and always! Thank You again S.G! ;)
Terrible lies picks up where the ending left off in book one, Lex made a heart breaking decision (AND I was) because its true what they say: "The Truth Hurts!" She made me so mad in book one and she still made me mad in this one! Did I mention I was TeamRen? He completely had me swooning by 14 percent into the story.
"See, Lex you left something back in Greenland..................................." THAT WAS MY FAVORITE PART OF THE STORY!!
ok I'm calm I'm calm....lol well lets just say Lex life in still danger, The Sentori will stop at nothing to get what they want. Hurt, Kill & Destroy!
I love how the "most intimate scenes" were not detailed like I like but still were swoon worthy! Passion, Lust and Love!
Terrible lies is exactly that! I DID NOT see that coming, For both! Though I didn't like some of the secrets that were revealed (Of course) I enjoyed Terrible Lies and will miss these characters...
And the question still remains..... "Will you (SHE) die for him?" ..... But Who exactly? REN or BRETT?
(P.S I love NEKO! I think he needs his own story *HINT HINT*)
Not my typical read, but that doesn't mean I didn't fall in love with it from the beginning. How could you not?
Around every corner there was a twist here and a turn there. It kept you wondering what would happen next and kept you craving more. I read book one, Thirty Seconds to Die months ago and have been waiting to know how the story would pan out in Terrible Lies. I fell in love with the character Ren Miller from the very start and needed more of him!
It's an adventure I'd go on again and one that is waiting for you to take!
5 HOOKED FROM PAGE ONE STARS! If you haven't read the first book go read it! I promise to not to any spoilers in this review so I'll keep it short and to the point. Lex and Ren are amazing characters. Ren is strong, charming, romantic, and handsome. Lex is strong in that she pushes her emotions and needs aside to deal with whatever she needs to. There are twists and turns that you expect to happen and then you are lead down another twist and turn you didn't see coming. This book is definitely a TBR! ~ Leslie
I have fallen in love with Lexi, Ren, and Brett. I can't wait to read the next book! I am not one to write a review giving away details about the book. I don't want to ruin it for anyone. The plot in this book is crazy. But it is very likely something that could happen! Thank you for the great book S.G. Holster!!
