His Callahan Bride's Baby by Tina Leonard is #10 in the Callahan Cowboys Series. I haven't read any of the others and was a bit confused about who was fighting for what. It wasn't until past the middle that I found out what was up with the Callahan parents and there was no answer to what the treasure of Rancho Diablo is. Although the reader does get a peek at where it's hidden.
The Callahan's uncle, a very mean character named Wolf, really wants information about the treasure? About the parents? I really wasn't sure. He has already kidnapped one woman in the last bookand may have been behind the shooting of one of the ranch hands. It did make me wonder, since they knew he was the kidnapper from the last book, just why he was out walking free to come after them again and again.
Falcon is smitten with Taylor, the town's favorite girl. His aunt has offered a chance to own the ranch to any of her family that is married and has a child. Therefore, the town knows that the Callahan's are trolling for spouses. When Falcon tenders a spur-of-the-moment proposal to Taylor in the first chapter, well, she doesn't seem to think that he's all that serious. Besides, she wants to marry for love. Her boss tells her to date around, and if she really likes Falcon, he can ask her again in December.
The local ladies then proceed to put out the word that the Town Princess is looking for a Prince...and the dates begin. It's too bad that Taylor and Falcon have a one night stand that ends with her pregnant. Falcon wants that baby, but forgets to tell Taylor how he feels about her. Let the misunderstandings begin.
Quite often I can pick up a book in the middle or the end of a series and immediately be caught up in what's going on. Unfortunately this wasn't the case here. The information from past books came to me in dribs and drabs. This book appears to have been written more for the readers that have been along for the ride since book one.
The many layers of secrecy and the many characters didn't pull me into this world at all. Apparently this author didn't write this book for me. I do believe that the readers of the Callahan Cowboy series would enjoy having a visit with them.
Thank you, NetGalley and Harlequin, for the opportunity to read this book.
