So, I have the hots for my alien doctor. Jorok saved my life after being trapped in a filthy cell. He's gorgeous and way too serious for his own good. To get to know him better, I tag along on an errand, but we’re kidnapped and forced to nurse an alien captain’s sick crew. To avoid being sold, I pretend to be Jorok's mate (which isn't difficult).
I thought things couldn’t get worse from there. I was wrong. Kiki is utterly delectable. She’s brilliant, amusing, and beautiful, but she’s also my queen’s sister and deserves someone who can devote more time to her. Which I can’t, since I’m a physician to the ship’s entire crew. When she and I travel to a merchant city for supplies, we’re taken by a band of Gutturians who want me to cure their crew of a mystery sickness. A deathbed confession sets us off on a quest to uncover the source of the oppressive group, who is determined to wipe out my people…and hers. Kiki’s intoxicating charms are the least of my problems…and one I can no longer resist.

🦸🏼♀️ Heroine Spotlight: Kiki
From abductee to survivor, Kiki’s arc is a testament to quiet resilience. Snatched by aliens and imprisoned in a subterranean lab where captives were forcibly turned into cyborgs, she found an unlikely protector in one she simply called “Friend”—a silent sentinel whose presence alone kept others at bay. Even when Friend was dragged off for brutal experimentation, his reputation shielded her. Their eventual rescue felt earned, not just by circumstance, but by the bond forged in the darkest of places.

🦸🏻♂️ Hero Spotlight: Jorok
Jorok is a man of contradictions: a royal physician turned renegade explorer, exiled for a single fateful decision. Now serving aboard a stolen Heveian cruiser, he carries the weight of shame, regret, and a past love he refuses to revisit. As the ship’s doctor, he’s precise and professional—but beneath the surface simmers a man grappling with identity, loyalty, and longing.

🔥 Plot Snapshot
Kiki’s first encounter with Jorok is electric; love at first sight complicated by the assumption that she’s bonded to Friend. Her world is upended again when she discovers her sister, presumed dead, is alive and mated to the Heveian king. As Kiki recovers, Jorok tends to her with restrained tenderness, his attraction tempered by duty and her royal ties. A joint mission off-ship gives them space to connect, and their slow-burn chemistry unfolds against a backdrop of danger, tech scavenging, and unexpected allies.

❤️🔥 What Worked
• Kiki’s background as a programmer isn’t just window dressing—it’s woven into the plot, giving her agency and relevance aboard the high-tech cruiser. Her skills even contribute to Friend’s upgrades, adding emotional weight to their bond. • The off-ship adventure delivers momentum and intimacy, allowing Kiki and Jorok to evolve beyond their initial roles. The side characters they meet add texture and tension. • The UCP storyline is a standout: a sinister organization masquerading as benevolent, responsible for unleashing a virus that nearly wiped out the Heveians. It’s a compelling thread that raises the stakes and sets up future conflict.

🤨 Room for More
• While the story didn’t break new ground, it delivered a satisfying journey. The emotional beats landed, and the world-building had enough intrigue to keep me invested. I’m rooting hard for the Heveian-human alliance to dismantle the UCP’s façade and bring justice to the galaxy.

🎧 Narration Vibes
Narrated in dual POV by Dani California and Eric MacArthur.
• Dani’s voice is unexpectedly deep for a female lead, but her grounded delivery lends authenticity and emotional resonance. • Eric’s performance, however, misses the mark. His tone lacks the gravitas expected of a towering alpha alien, and his female voices feel flat and unconvincing. The pacing reveals the script, rather than immersing us in it. • A duet-style narration would’ve amplified the emotional tension and made the character dynamics more vivid.

📝 Final Thoughts
This installment blends emotional survival, forbidden attraction, and interstellar politics with just enough grit to keep things interesting. Kiki and Jorok’s connection is slow-burning but sincere, and the broader conflict with the UCP promises high-stakes drama ahead. While the narration falters, the story itself holds its own—and I’m eager to see this crew rise up and rewrite the stars.
I think these are getting better or my expectations have lowered. This was delightful. No longer so basic but still very predictable and dare I say easy. Like the problems are easily solved not realistic, but also, what I expect. So maybe it is me.
This follows our doctor Jorok and Kiki. Another genius, gasp!!! How many human geniuses fit on this ship?!? There’s no limit. Every new human woman will be a genius with also a mated genius alien with a hot bod and big…. Accept it and move on.
Anyways, thanks to these two being abducted AGAIN we find out the United Coalition for Peace (UCP) is up to more drama associated with power hungry galactic organizations pretending to be peaceful. Anyways, I really liked Kiki and Jarok. Kiki was so kind and understanding. She was literally the mom everyone needed in this group. I really enjoyed her as a person and how she was instantly in love with Jarok but waited for him.
Very good read. All doctors should be this hot 😂. Jorok was so serious and invested in his work. Kiki thought he didn’t notice her but he did and when it came to protecting what was his he didn’t hesitate to do so. Very good read.
This is only the third book of Ella Blake’s that I’ve read so she’s still rather new to me. Nevertheless I took a fancy to the world that was presented to me as I listened to THE ALIEN’S ESCAPE. It was filled with intriguingly plausible scenarios if a bit redundant.
Unfortunately it took me a while to get into the story. Once I did however I found myself eagerly awaiting what would happen next. The characters spoke to me in different ways. Although at first I wasn’t really a fan of Jorok (I found him too aloof) but by the end of the story I liked him. Kiki was easy for me to connect to and understand. Also, the secondary character of Friend was a stand out IMO.
What unquestionably impressed me about this book was that although it’s the 4th book in the series and there were numerous references to the MCs of the previous installments I didn’t really feel as if I was missing anything. That’s due to the skillful way that Blake wove these references. They were so smoothly incorporated into the text that the book does great as a standalone.
As I previously stated I had a hard time getting into the story. I think that was because of the narrators. Neither Dani California nor Eric MacArthur were familiar to me and it took me a while to adjust to their narrative styles. MacArthur especially seemed to speak in a clipped almost stilted manner and I thought California at times did too. However as time went on I noticed these things less and less. Both of the narrators took on a different voice when speaking the different characters lines and that’s something that I always appreciate.
This is the fourth book in series, and while it is a standalone romance, it’s also part of an ongoing saga, and continues aspects of that tale that began in previous books.
Jorok is the Heveian doctor on the ship which rescued Kiki and Friend from a mining planet. He’s also the male that Kiki finds herself falling for at first sight- but he’s not an easy one to catch! In an attempt to get closer to him, Kiki and Jorok find themselves stranded on an alien ship, and working hard just to survive.
Although we only met Kiki in the last book, she and Jorok make an important discovery vital to the futures of both their planets in this book. It’s a fun, fast paced tale, with plenty of action, a little romance, and some very important for the series events.
An enthralling sci-fi romance, that is sure to be enjoyed by SFR lovers and fans of the author.
Ooh! Such a sweet and exciting story. Kiki has been rescued from a slave ship she didn’t think she would survive. Her mind and body were a mess but the alien doctor taking care of her makes her grateful she survived almost immediately. If only the gorgeous hunk returned her feelings! Jorok is immediately taken with the little female but doesn’t believe himself worthy of a mate or happiness. It will take a couple of crazy adventures before his admits his feelings and crosses the line into love and acceptance. It was an awesome and exciting addition to the series. I’m looking forward to Friend finding his happiness next.
This is book four in the series and another good addition to the series. I enjoyed Jorok and Kiki’s story. It was touching to read their romance unfolding but also the reunions of families. Kiki and Friend was rescued by Dani and the team. It was a tough rescue because people were hurt, Friend had been tortured and experimented on, and Kiki was so thin. Doctors Jorok and Claire worked tirelessly to bring them back. When Kiki is about to go to sleep, she tells Jorok that she will marry him someday. That is where their story begins. . . . Read On!
These two reminded me of Sheldon and Amy from the Big Bang theory. Jorok is the Hevian Doctor and Kiki was his patient when she was found and rescued. Jorok kept her at arms length due to some trauma in the past he associated with being in love and not being in a certain place he should have been when his mother passed. On a trip to pick up supplies, they are taken captive by another race of aliens. They are held captive to help treat an airborne sickness on their ship. This was a cute, kind of cheesy and fun read. I really enjoyed the last series and this one is a lot different
Jorok and Kiki, book 4 in the Heveian series. I loved it! Kiki was exactly what our stoic doctor need. I can't say enough about this series! The characters are amazing. The world building is perfection. And the stories are mind blowingly engrossing. I care so much about these characters and the continuing story thread. I have never read an Ella Blake book that didn't keep me involved and engrossed. I can't wait for the next books in this series. I highly recommend ANYTHING by Ella Blake but especially this series!
A sci-fi romance. A simple attraction to an alien male will lead Kiki on a very dangerous and deadly mission. Jorok is a brilliant doctor who happens to think his past mistakes are unforgivable. But when the two face an unexpected danger they must change all their perceptions about themselves.
The story is a great sci-fi action romance. We get both good and bad aliens. I loved that the main characters and some other minor ones change through the story. The romance builds and is quite sweet at times.
So far I haven't really been brought to tears, lots of things going on , but no tears. This one, especially the family reunions definitely brought me to tears. Jorok has been such a great Dr for the ship and so skilled yet so contained. But when it comes to Kiki he really has a hard time keeping his feelings under wrap. Their adventures I hope have brought them a few more allies and I loved seeing the Paradise planet and the Eternal. Wow. Lots going on in this one but you should read it. It's well worth it.
This book was amazing. It was powerful, funny, romantic, suspenseful and interesting. It has everything a book needs to keep you intrigued. Jorok has an interesting and painful back story, and Kiki is such a wonderful character. I loved seeing where the story took them and seeing side characters from previous books was awesome as always. Such a great read. Can't wait for the next one.
This story takes you through yet another abduction. This time they work hard and smart as a team. They fight disease and filth and then meet a deity. Their strengths compliment each other even though they are in different areas. You are rooting for there success. Well worth reading.
I loved Kiki and Jorok's love story. Some things I loved about this book:
-She falls first -Fated Mates with HEA -Battling another UCP disease -An ally in an unexpected place -Ancient One's wisdom -Family Reunion with wholesome moments
Overall, this whole series makes for a quick and easy read. Each book brings a delightful romance.
I was so invested in this book that I actually cried at one point. The male in this one was much deeper and easier to empathize with than I expected from his interactions in previous books. I should be cleaning up to get ready for family to visit tomorrow, but all I want to do is finish this series.
Jorok and Kiki are on a mission that is interrupted and kidnapped by some bad aliens. Oh by the way, they were not the ones that were supposed to be kidnapped. Some great adventures. Enjoy
Another good read from this series! Another one that I couldn't put down! So well written it's so easy to just fall into it. Can't wait for the next t one due out in September!
I absolutely loved this book! Very good and a page turner! My favorite part was the ending and the reunions, especially what Lila revealed... I can't wait for the next book!
This series just keeps getting better and better 😃. This time there's so much more, evolving into the war that will hopefully take down the UCP 😉. Thanks again Ella, I'm truly addicted to reading this series and I Love all the characters 🤓.
This was a great book. The action scenes were very realistic. All you had to do was close your eyes and you can imagine yourself being there. It’s hard to pick a favorite character when all of them were fantastic. Excellent reading.
