Erased: The Real Sleeping Beauty Account

Rate this book
What happens when twelve faeries with more power than sense bless a newborn princess? Rhiannon has been in love with the Crown Prince of Brulark for years. Daystar still sees her as his little sister’s best friend. Thanks to her father’s matchmaking schemes, she has one last chance to change Daystar’s mind and get him to consider her in a romantic light before she’s married off to the most politically advantageous suitor.

But when Daystar’s pixie-blessed (and ambitious) older sister, Aurora, returns after a decade of hiding, things get sticky. Suddenly, accidents are befalling the king on a daily basis and there are whispers of war. How can Rhia worry about gaining Daystar’s attention when his life may be at stake?

Erased: the REAL Sleeping Beauty Account is the first book of the Redacted series. A low/no spice, sweet retelling that follows the story of the characters who were omitted from the fairy tale we think we know and love, this book is perfect for fans of K.M. Shea’s Timeless Fairy Tales series or Hanna Sandvig’s Faerie Tale Romances.

*Thank you Megan Charlie and StoryOrigin for sending me a review copy*

In my review copy I was sent the first two chapters of Erased and I was hooked from page one. The story of Sleeping Beauty is reversed with Aurora as the villain and foils protagonist, Rhia, exceptionally well. Rhia is kind hearted and quick witted with a sassy personality that makes her stand out.

You can see the love story between Rhia and Daystar begin to flourish in these two chapters and can't wait to see how it progresses.

Overall, the first two chapters of Erased were an excellent beginning to a fresh retelling of Sleeping Beauty through the eyes of someone other than the Princess I can't wait to read the rest.

This was a really fun Sleeping Beauty Retelling. I love that Aurora is the villain. It made the storyline original and entertaining.

Our MCs were fun and entertaining and their romance was swoony and very sweet. Great for teenagers as the kisses are chaste, but still give you warm fuzzies.

The magic and intrigue was fascinating and the fairies were an interesting addition.

Can't wait to see what the rest of the series holds.

💋 Chaste kisses only

Okay, so the concept of this book was really interesting, it held my attention the entire way through and I enjoyed the laugh out loud banter, incredible plot twists, strong friendships, and swoony romance.

In this version of events, Princess Aurora is the villain, not the heroine. She’s spiteful, arrogant, and overly ambitious, and her return to court is the cause of most of the problems in this story.

The heroine in this story is actually the Lady Rhiannon, who is Princess Eunice’s best friend. Princess Eunice and her twin brother, Crown Prince Daystar, are Aurora’s younger siblings, and they are also extremely important to the plot.

I want to start off by saying that I really loved Rhia. She had a kind heart and a quick wit, and I thought she was sweet but also sassy.

I was 100% supportive of her romance with Daystar, and I spent a lot of the book hoping that things would go well and that they would finally get their happy ending.

I loved that Daystar and Eunice weren’t picture perfect royals. Daystar had moments where he stumbled over his words, and those scenes made him seem more human.

Eunice was a little eccentric, but the thing that I enjoyed about this was that the people close to her didn’t try to change her, instead, they both loved and accepted her for it.

There were other supporting characters that made this book enjoyable as well! This book was the perfect lighthearted, hilarious, and swoony read for fans of fairytale retellings. I highly recommend!

I received a free copy for review of this book and am leaving my opinion voluntarily.

So, the premise of this book is really engaging. The fairies are always my favorite piece of the Sleeping Beauty story so when I heard a premise with more of them, I was sold!

But I couldn’t really get into this story. None of the characters really caught my attention and the way the dialogue with the fairies was written, almost in script format, was very distracting to me and pulled me out of the tale.

The setting and magic is really intriguing and by all account, I SHOULD have loved this. But I found without a character I could really latch onto, the book didn’t really enchant me like I thought it would.

Bear in mind though that our love or disinterest in characters is subject to taste. So, what I didn’t find engaging, you very well might. The story is well written enough with a fun setting that I still recommend you give it a shot and see if the characters are more for you than they were for me.

A Sleeping Beauty retelling. Life was pretty peaceful for Rhia until Princess Aurora returns from hiding. Suddenly, accidents are befalling the king on a daily basis and there are whispers of war...
The tale of Sleeping Beauty is definitely turned on its head here as Aurora is the villain and the main characters are trying to get her to prick her finger. Overall I wasn't quite sure how I felt about this twist. My favorite character was definitely Eunice (side character, Aurora's younger sister) and I very much hope she gets her own story! I also enjoyed the fact that this was a full length story rather than a novella. I plan on continuing the series when the next book comes out!
Could easily be read as a standalone
Opening line: "Rhiannon stretched for the shelf, trying to shove the wrong book into its slot next to the one she actually wanted."

This was a very different and unique retelling of Sleeping Beauty. I enjoyed seeing the direction the author took the story and I loved the world-building and the way the author described magic and magical creatures as. Rhia was a really great heroine and I loved how she has so much individuality and character and I loved how she is so understanding and kind towards Eunice, having been the first one to reach out. Daystar is also such a sweet MC and I loved how he grew to love Rhia after first only seeing her as his sister's best friend. The side characters, like Steffan and David, were really enjoyable to read and I loved Steffan's personality and David's reliability. Overall, this was a very enjoyable and intriguing reading and I loved watching the story progress.

What an absolutely delightful read! Although starting slow and at moments distracting details, this was not an expected retelling of the sleeping beauty tale. The usually adorable princess, is not so adorable. This brings in different and unique characters into the tale where friendship and loyalty are the crucial ingredients to pull through difficulties. Very well written - a hilarious, lighthearted and clean swoony read.

I really enjoyed Erased. I especially enjoyed the regency vibes!

I also thought Rhia and Daystar were so cute together. Both were lovely characters.

Worldbuilding was really interesting. I’m hoping we get more books outta it. I super duper hope Eunice gets her own book.

My only complaint was that the plot seems a bit dragged out. If it was up to me Aurora would have been picked with a spindle right away! 🤣

Content: clean, no swearing, no spice

I received an ARC copy of this book and leaving a review voluntarily.

When I saw the cover I was quite interested in the book (I know never judge a book by it's cover), but when I read the description for this book I was intrigued. The concept was interesting and I was right! It was!

I really enjoyed the book! Keep up the amazing work!

This was such a unique take on the Sleeping Beauty fairytale. I loved it so much! If you love twists and classic tales from the view of a “side” character, pick this up now! Megan Charlie has such a fun take on fairytales. I love how her brain twists everything! It’s always a fun adventure.

The characters come with a twist in this tale. Our precious princess isn’t so precious. Her brother, sister, and sister’s best friend take center stage and quickly endear themselves. I love their friendships and budding romance between Daystar and Rhia. Aurora will leave you loving to hate her. She will surprise you with each small glimpse of her true self.

The plot is well paced and full of surprising reveals. It will keep you reading to get answers. I hope there’s another book with what happens later if/when Aurora awakens and maybe a novella of this from Aurora’s point of view. I have questions about the forest and Daystar and Rhia’s encounter with the king there.

Overall, highly recommend. Great for teens and adults.
