A Girl Called Harry

Rate this book
Harriet Jasmine Emerald Florence Mabey McDonald (Harry for short) wonders if an imagination is something fast, like a cheetah...in which case it is not your fault if it runs away with you, because you couldn't stop it. Or is it something little, like a celebrity's handbag dog, which can only run away with you if you let it...
When the new girl starts at school, and takes over Harry's best friend, her imagination runs riot.
Perhaps it is more like a kite, which can carry her away...

This book, though a normal sized book, was a fast read for me. It was a good storyline and the characters were at sometimes annoying or mean but they eventually grew on you. The novel is based in an American middle school and the protagonist is in Year Eight though, she isn't enjoying it much at first. When the new girl, Mallory, 'steals' her best friend Jessica the year starts to take a turn for the worst and Harry is finding herself enjoying home more than school and seeing her friends.
But,
The cover is much like the drawings Harry likes doing so, it links to the book nicely.
Overall, I think this book is well written, though an easy read, and young adult/child readers will enjoy the inner workings of Harry's imagination unfolding on the pages before them.

This book is clearly quite a moderate book for all to read but the storyline is actually very well-written. It caotures the imagination of this girl called Harriet Jasmine Emerald Florence Mabey Mcdonald, Harry for short. Wonder why she has so many names at one go? Well, you can read this book to know more. She wonders what imagination is really about and when the new girl Mallory comes and takes over Harry's best friend, her imagination goes wild again. So , if you want to know how awesome this book's story is really is and what really happend to the protagonist and her school life, read this book and let your imagination run riot with Harry!

Read this book as research for my budding writing career. I enjoy writing for kids, but have some difficulty reading books in that age group. My daughter recommended this one to me, and I quite enjoyed it.

Aww, this was too cute. Harry has a vivid imagination that totally runs riot every second page and it's heaps of fun reading where her crazy train of thought ends up! You know she and Mallory are going to end up friends too but it's fun watching how long it all takes.
