In the quest for true love, a bit of magic may be just the nudge Penelope and John need…
Lady Penelope Hale has had a run of bad luck when it comes to romance. Discouraged and ready to give up on love altogether, Penelope follows the urging of her cousins and endeavors to give the man of her dreams—the devastating Duke of Havenward—a gypsy love potion. All goes awry, however, when the unthinkable happens and the wrong man, Lord John Breckenridge, drinks the potion by mistake. Horrified when the unpleasant Lord John begins courting her, Penelope and her cousins strive to find a reversal for the love potion. Despite their best efforts, John remains persistent in his pursuit, and Penelope finds herself surprisingly drawn to the brooding man. Before love can blossom, however, a crushing secret comes to light, driving a wedge through the newly formed bonds.
With Valentine’s Day just around the corner, can John rectify the grave wrong which pushed Penelope away before she gives up on love forever?

It was a little hard to choose between 3 or 4 stars. The longer I wait, the more inclined I am to give it 3 stars lol. I guess it loses its magic when you're not reading it.
I liked this even though it was short (around 90 pages). You still got a sense of the plot and the main characters.
Read this to find out if the magic potion actually was magic...
(I got this as a freebie on Amazon.)
I had just finished a book right before this one where the main character was named Penelope. I felt like the ending was a bit dramatic & happened very quickly--like it was all over in less than 5 minutes.
I definitely want to read more from this author! Also, my 40th book done for the year! (Part of the reason I chose a short book is that I wanted to hit that number tonight, lol.)
An adorable, short read that weaves in a whimsical plot. Penelope Hale believes herself in love with a duke. She believes he returns the emotions but is hurt when she learns he is engaged to another. I normally do not like when a story has either the H/h in love with someone else but because of the length the emotion is not melancholy or frustrating but reminiscent of removing a band aid. There are other options for her Colonel Holbrook and a new comer to the game.
Major John Breckenridge is Colton Breckenridge, Duke of Havenward's brother and non other than the same duke that jilted Penny. The funny part about this whole story is when Penny and her twin cousins come into their possession a gypsy love potion. The night she lays eyes on Colton she contemplates on which gent to use it on. Colton becomes the last minute winner of the laced wine. She doesn't actually believe it will work. In a big huff John breezes in to confront his big brother and chugs the beverage leaving an after taste of cinnamon. LOL.
That is when the fun begins. John is definitely the opposite of his older sibling and deserves the title of duke but he holds something much greater in his possession. A woman's heart he never expected to gain. He is a widower which will supply you with how he came about as being known as jaded. This is a clean read but very entertaining. Enjoy!

The description states this is over 90 pages but I think it was shorter due to paragraph spacing. A fun concept, lovable characters - but it needed more.
I enjoyed each element - the twin cousins, Penny's family history, her dad, Lord John's past, Colton's trouble, the magic potion... But nothing seemed supported or developed.
**Spoilers
I read many novellas and feel this one had tons of potential but it fell short. Due to the lack of supporting scenes, build up or facts, the story's climax (revealing of various secrets) was not particularly powerful.
Everything was lightly touched on, including the potion element.
It also seemed that at times the dialog and actions of the characters didn't match appropriate behavior of the time period.
All in all I liked this book. The author has a fun imagination.
Overall this was a modestly lengthed romance story. The characters are well developed, the reactions to circumstances realistic and the two main characters are very likeable. There are only a few chaste kisses but the sexual tension between the two characters is electric enough to satisfy. I only wish it could have been longer because I would have liked to hear about what happened to the characters after she accepts his proposal.
This was a sweet romance. Penelope (love that name!) wants to be married, but the man she wanted (Colton) is engaged to another. Enter Colton's brother John to romance Penelope.
There were several misunderstandings, and a mild love triangle. There just wasn't enough character development for me, it was just too short to accomplish that.
The ending felt really rushed, I wish that part had been slowed down a bit. Overall, a nice quick read, but nothing that wowed me.
Utterly satisfying, Bewitched was a lovely story about the magic of love and what happens when you find a kindred spirit! Penelope had been nursing a broken heart after Colton got engaged to another woman. With only the tiniest bit of hope led Penny to try to slip the love potion into his drink. Little did she suspect that his brother, Lord John would drink the love potion instead and cast a spell on her heart! I'm so happy that John and Penelope fell in love!

I thought this was a really sweet and fun book. Every character was likable and the main ones were truly lovable. Definitely would have liked more build-up for each scene because the lack of it made for abrupt situations, specifically In parts were things were revealed.
Nevertheless I thoroughly enjoyed it and thought it was cute.
ADORABLE! Much too short but a nice way to fill a couple hours with a "happy sappy" romance novel. Just wonder how much more there could have been with a full 300+ page novel. But ... I did enjoy being Bewitched!
This is quite intriguing story. The only problem is it felt like it was just not finished. A couple more chapters letting Penny and John set up their lives together would have accomplished this. Other than that it was very exciting and enjoyable.
I read it in one setting. It was that good. I usually like lots of lusty scenes to enjoy a good book, but this book is clean and very well written. Who doesn't love romance with a little suspense, but a HEA in one book. No cliffies. :)
Downloaded this as a free short story. Sweet and frothy historical which promises a fantasy element, but the magic is of the heart instead. A nice afternoon read.
This is a very cute, clean Regency romance. When Lady Penelope Hale's cousins give her a love potion to capture her true love, everything goes awry. Short sweet story.
