Doctorate in hand, Jane Ann Summers is ready to return to the South Seas paradise of her youth, when the director of the institute—her mother—drops a bomb. She cannot return until she experiences more of life...a social life.
Determined to waste no time, Jane searches for a shortcut and discovers the 1Night Stand dating service. A single night with geologist Dr. Lukas Gerard, and she can go home and get on with her fascinating study of world weather trends. The only question is whether to have sex with him…after all, it would be her first, and maybe only, time.
Lukas’s own field of study has shown him some alarming trends. He believes a killer earthquake may rattle the western half of the United States in the near future. In preparation, he converts an abandoned gold mine to a secret bunker, loaded with supplies and all the comforts of home. Only thing he needs now is company in his hideaway. Unsure how to find the right companion, he turns to 1Night Stand, but neither he nor Jane are prepared for the sudden impact of one of Madame Eve’s connections.
One night teaches them there is more to life than science…for both of them.
Kate Richards lives in sunny Southern California with the wonderful husband she met online over a decade ago and a menagerie of quirky pets. She divides her time betwen the beach and the beautiful High Sierras. Kate loves hearing from readers!
I adore Kate Richards Virgin Series. This one was different for me to read because it included the Preppers story line. I think Ms. Richards did a great job with this story as well, I just don't know how to review it.
Loved this "prepper" story !!! Doomsday is coming !! Geologist Dr. Lukas Gerard, has an underground paradise and shelter. It's taken unbelievable time and energy and excellence to make this new survivor's safe enclosure. It's amazing. Jane has a doctorate and decides to go ahead and meet this man to see if they may have something in common. He blindfolds her and takes her underground, then gives her the tour. She's thrilled by all she's seen, and they get to know each other. Jane and Lukas have sex, and talk more. I loved this short story !! Highly recommend !! ENJOY !!!
I read this book so long ago I don't even remember the story. ^^¿ Virgin heroine meet hero, a professor who is prepping for doomsday. They talk, then kissing then... you know what next. ;) Happy ending.
Two people, more alike than they can possibly know, are put together by the wisdom of Madame Eve. The resulting evening is full of surprises!
Jane Ann Summers has just completed her dissertation and wants nothing more than to return home to her native Marshall Islands to begin her long-awaited research. A bookworm who’s devoted little time or energy into any sort of socializing, her life has been dedicated to one goal. When her mother throws her a curve by forcing her to get out and – to her chagrin, go on a date – she decides to get it over with and contacts Madame Eve. After her 1Night Stand, Jane plans to head home.
Lukas Gerard has a secret-a big secret. In addition to teaching geology, he’s also busy preparing his shelter, president of the Nevada Area Preppers, and owns half of a high-tech company dedicated to preparing for disaster. What he’s missing, however, is companionship. He requested a very specific date from Madame Eve over a year ago, and now she’s finally come through.
I’ll preface my remarks by admitting I’ve not only never read a prepper story before, I had never heard the term. This being my first exposure, the author did a very good job of helping me understand the character of Lukas and his obsessive planning. The description of his bunker was very vivid, and although he could have easily fallen into the paranoid category, he was a very likable guy.
That said, the prepper angle wasn’t my favorite, and it seemed to take away from the romantic side of this 1Night Stand. It was necessary to show the attraction and connection between the two characters, and I enjoyed the love story very much. Jane’s inexperience didn’t seem to play into the story too much, but it was endearing to see how patient and understanding Lukas was with her.
I was a bit confused by the end, and I won’t go into specifics since it would include spoilers, but I had some unanswered questions when I was finished. I wasn’t exactly sure what happened, but I can perhaps chalk that up to not being familiar with the prepper angle.
That aside, I did like this book about two people who seemed picture perfect for each other. When you get down to it, it’s a love story, and I enjoyed Ms. Richards’s version of happily ever after. If you like stories about preppers, this one would be a good one to try.
Jane just recently received her Doctorate and can't wait to get back home to her mom....Until her mom dictates that Jane cannot come home to her until she experiences more things socially, including dating. Wasting no time, Jane hunts the internet for dating services to get the ball rolling. When she decides on Madame Eve's 1Night Stand service and is matched with someone right away, Jane figures she'll be back home to the paradise island of her youth.
Lukas is Geologist and professor that recently discovered a new fault line that could produce a huge earthquake in the not-so-far-off future. Converting an old gold mine into a bunker, he figures that will be the perfect place to take his first 1Night Stand match that Madame Eve has just contacted him with.
This is only supposed to be for 1 Night but will either Jane or Lukas be able to walk away?
I have really enjoyed each 1Night Stand story I've gotten my hands on and this includes Virgin Under Ground. The story is about two very intelligent people that are brought together and find that they really enjoy each other's company. Both Jane and Lukas are doctors in their fields of study, and while highly successful in that, they are also not part of the social scene. Social awkward and, in the case of Jane, not experienced in romance either. I found that the romantic scene was mildly erotic - not over the top nor weak - it was very satisfying for the story. I enjoyed each character, the plot, the storyline, and found, well, everything else to be fantastic.
I was introduced to the "prepper" lifestyle (people who prepare for the world to end or some other type of catastrophic events) and I found it intriguing.
I highly recommend this novella.

My Review: This was my first official Prepper read and it was interesting. I liked that twist it gave to the story and the underground bunker was fabulous to imagine. It provided for some really great ambiance for the story. I'd love to visit this place in real life...so much fun and so creative.
The owner of the underground bunker is Dr. Lukas Gerard. He's a scientist and an inventor who's prepping for a disaster brought on by nuclear testing. Dr. Jane Summers is a meteorologist who's been testing theories about weather changes in the islands brought on that same nuclear testing. Aww, Madame Eve...she does have amazing powers when it comes to bringing together the right people.
I found this story to be much richer than many of the 1NS books. There's a lot of depth to the story here...for both characters. The focus of the story is truly on what Lukas is building here and his hopes for the future for him and Jane, no matter that he's just met her. Of course, it's a 1NS story so there is sex, too, but it is such a minor part of the overall story.
I enjoyed it. The mental visuals in the book were great and it was a fun jaunt into a new genre that I know is becoming more and more popular. I can't imagine going out and purposefully seeking prepper stories, but I definitely won't pass them by anymore.
I love this story. It’s a quick read, and very well-written. I really appreciated the writing style: the story flowed so smoothly. The romance between the two main characters is sensual, sexy, and ultimately, hopeful. The author creates a sizzling chemistry in a short amount of time. Lukas is the exact right combination of protective strength and tenderness.
For me, a highlight of this story is the underground bunker that the bulk of the story takes place in. The author’s creation of this incredibly beautiful, and very useful, safe place is highly imaginative. That space and the irresistible Dr. Lukas Gerard have me wishing for the apocalypse!
"The man who stared down at her was not the urbane professor who had picked her up. Rather a god, a man of unlimited strength who could carry her through disasters and fears, who had built a fortress of safety and beauty inside the belly of the earth herself.
When he reached for her, she went to him, and put herself in his hands. She was living, for the first time.”

Jane has just received her PHD. She now can go home to were her mother lives and start he research. Only one problem, her mom says no! She is applaud because her mother wants her to go live a little. Have a fling, some fun and then come home. Her life will be full of research and her mom wants her to live little before then. So she finds 1night stand dating service and decides she can get it done in one night and even have a receipt to prove it. Easy fix, then on to her research. The only problem is Lukas. He is the ultimate prepper (end of the world preparer). He is also a PHD. Set up by the dating service could best thing that has happened to either of them and change both of their lives forever.
Sweet story, could have used more sex scenes in it. The ones that are there are pretty hot though. This would have been a great full length book as a end of times book. Lukas is defiantly the ultimate prepper. Jane is a brainy girl that is just truly experiencing what life has to offer. Good read.

Virgin Under Ground takes you deep into a completely different world. Pun intended as the hero, who I’d describe as a sexy, Dr. and Prepper, lives underground. I loved the heroine. Unlike her name suggests. Dr. Jane Anne Summers is anything but plain! With an interesting background, lineage, and delightful personality, she’s easy to root for. I wanted her to have everything she dreamed of, and enjoyed her journey to unexpected places. Ms. Richards does an excellent job of informing, intriguing, and enchanting in this short story.
Dr. Sexy Prepper, Lukas is a bag of mystery and intelligence with a healthy dose of hotness. The scruffy faced long haired brunette with electric blue eyes holds two degrees and a tendency to be sweet and strong at the same time that has you swooning by the end of the book. Afraid to reveal his identity as a Prepper with a doomsday like theory he turns to One Night Stand to find him a woman who’ll fit in his world. What he gets is far more than he bargained for.
This delightfully different tale is a mixture, of sweet, smart, and sexy that’ll satisfy any book nerds cravings.
Virgin Under Ground is part of the Prepper Romance series by Decadent Publishing, a series all written by different authors, each book having the common theme of "preppers" (people who are preparing for the end of the world or at least a catastrophic disaster).
Kate Richard gives us two highly intelligent, slightly socially inept characters as the hero and heroine of Virgin Under Ground. Both Lukas and Jane are doctors in there respective field of science but neither do much dating or socializing, this sends them to Madame Eve and her 1Night stand service.
Virgin Under Ground is a fun, quick read, while the title and 1Night stand theme may suggest it's main theme is sex it really spends the majority of the story talking about the prepper lifestyle and the bunker Lukas has built in an abandoned gold mine. We have just one sex scene and it is mildly erotic. The story is a good one and I would love to have seen a little more, we get our HFN with the chance of a HEA.
At 50 pages this novella would make a great afternoon or waiting room read.

This is one of my favorite 1night Stand books and I have read a ton of them. You have two quirky and highly intelligent people coming together and connecting in a real way. Yes, this is a 1night stand and that means all the good stuff ;), but there was so much more going on here. While I do not believe I am anything like the characters, I really felt connected to them. I have no idea if the story portraits preppers accurately, but it felt authentic as I read the story. Plus, I love cave/mines so the whole concept of an underground lair is super fun for me. This story is one of the many reasons Kate Richards is one of my favorite authors. Friendship, love, heat, and authentic connections. Seriously, what more could you ask for in a romance?
Enjoyed this novella! The character and plot development are well focused for the reader. The demand put upon Jane from her Mother to explore her personal life before returning to her research is taken seriously. Jane goes for it and Lukas is the perfect specimen, as they are both science survivalist and READY to explore each other, both intellectually and intimately. I enjoyed Lukas' tenderness with Jane upon his discovery of her virginity and the focus of a future together for themselves.... I would recommend this novella to others.

Kate pens "Virgin Under Ground" of the '1 Night Stand Series' in a well written plot with a few surprises thrown in. Her characters were well defined, had great chemistry with some hot sex scenes, for this nice sweet read that will keep you captivate until the end. A must read for all prepper fans.
