In 1989 a KGB interrogator thought he discovered a message imbedded in a victim’s migraine headache. In 2012 Alexi Tambov is snatching people off the streets of New York City, still trying to extract answers that will lead him to the message.

When Gary and Chantal are mugged coming out of a support group meeting, they brush it off as “life in the city”. When a second mugging turns into a full-fledged kidnapping they are dragged into Alexi’s web.

Help arrives unexpectedly from an underground group struggling to stop Septon Research’s brutal testing of human guinea pigs.

In a desperate effort to protect Chantal, Gary will have to solve the puzzle before Septon. Piecing together the clues, solving the message will only get them half way. His long-term bond with Russian mobster Ivan Petrovski results in help arriving from unlikely sources.

I’ve been into suspense and action books lately and Rejean Giguere’s Endpoint is the most recent one that I have read. This page-turner, aside from being fast-paced and action-packed, also has a little twist of love story. A plus point, since I am and will always be smitten with love stories and romance lit. Excellently written and is filled with mysteries and intrigue and stepped up by a scientific bent.

The story rotates around the couple, Chantal and Gary, and a puzzle; and its partial pieces are embedded into – and can only be acquired from - humans’ minds. The antagonist, Alexi Tambov, is an interrogator who discovered one secret message entrenched in one’s migraine in 1989; the story is set on 2012 and this time Alexi is out-and-out to kidnapping people and making them “experimental guinea pigs” in order to make Septon Research’s science experimentation possible.
Chantal and Gary appear like an ordinary couple at first; Chantal is prone to danger and Gary is no invincible. Later in the story, it will be realized the both Chantal and Gary are no ordinary. The story started with the couple attending a support group conference for people who suffer from migraine and then Chantal got attacked by a group of men. Trembled and agitated, they managed to fight and escape. Little did they know that they will be encountering another attack. This time they were fully kidnapped and were hauled into Alexi’s lair. Why was Alexi aiming at the couple? It’s because Chantal is a migraine sufferer and it’s not just ordinary migraine but very exceptional migraine - the one that’s very desirable for the nasty study of the Septon Research. The two were desperado to run for their lives and to decipher the puzzle’s secret message before Septon Research does. Gary’s long-term connection to a powerful Russian businessman/mobster, Ivan Petrovski, saved them. Yes, Gary speaks Russian!

Endpoint has a good, fast-paced plot that does not get the readers bored. Like the plot, the characters, their relations and complexities also grow and develop throughout the story. There are a lot of mysteries that I, myself, couldn’t wait to discern as I read through. As the story opens, Chantal and Gary got me concerned about them. In the middle, I was intrigued - I was keyed up to know what so special about Chantal and what’s that very important top secret message that everyone has been risking their lives to. I found myself quite worried about what will happen to Chantal and Gary. Will they survive the danger they’re up to? Will they able to solve the puzzle before Septon does? I got impatient; I was wounded up, to be honest! It was really moving how desperate and dedicated Gary was to save his ladylove Chantal and to keep her safe. All in all, the book is very well-written as really feels dynamic. Endpoint is a very good read for those who are into action and suspense fictions and are looking for new, fresh voices.

And I think there’s still a sequel to look forward to because I’m intrigued about that “someone peeking in the window.” :)

Brilliantly written engaging fast paced action / thriller with maybe a little science fiction in it due oto the subject covered. I started it and couldn´t put it down, but I had too as I got tired and life sometimes gets in the way of reading. But as soon as I could I picked it up again.

Gary and Chantal are the two main characters and you are introduced to them right away, you get some more background information on them as the book goes on and this helps with the character building. They are involved in a sort of mind puzzle, the clues are obtained from the minds of certain people and as you can imagine Chantal is one of them. The story takes you to various places in America and Canada. It will keep you guessing throughout with plenty of questions.

I also enjoyed the Ivan character, he is a goodie / baddie, I enjoy the baddie characters who do good. The rest of the bad guy characters are also well thought out.
I like the style of writing, in the third person and it goes from one group of people to the other giving a different sides of the story. There is a bit of a love story also in the way Gary has to protect Chantal.
My favourite part was when the team was in Alaska, although there wasn´t a great deal of descriptions, I got the feeling of remoteness and isolation and that is awesome.

I would highly recommend this book, although, if you have a weak stomach you might want to skip on certain part, due to extreme violence, but even this was extremely well written. And regarding the ending, well you won´t expect that.
4 out of 5 stars.

Endpoint is a very cool suspense story that cuts to the core of compassion! I felt there were some slow points, but I’m sure that had to do with the incredible spurts of action! You never knew what was going to happen next.

Most of the characters, even some of the “good bad” guys had enough endearing qualities that you really liked them for who they were. You had an understanding that yes; this is a bad guy who is trying to help a friend. I enjoyed the way it pulled at my sensibilities in that way.

There were some very brutal moments throughout the story, defiantly moments that made you go eww, ouch!

When the rapid pace really picked up it was like a runaway train. The intrigue in working towards figuring out the angles of all the characters helped to move the pace along, but I really wasn’t prepared for the ending! I’m not going to spoil it for anyone, but hold on to you seat.
I recommend this book for folks that like action/suspense and I will certainly be picking up the sequel!

I received a free copy of Rejean Giguere’s Endpoint as a review copy. An interesting thriller/mystery with a twist, Endpoint introduces us to Gary and Chantal, two special people who get caught up in a byzantine mystery that is part detective story, part science fiction. When they’re mugged the first time, it’s just life in the big city, but when it happens again, they know there’s something far more deadly afoot. Gary, with his long-time connections with the Russian mob, goes to them for help, while Chantal, who suffers ‘special’ migraines, becomes the target of a research project that is using human migraine sufferers as guinea pigs.
Fully fleshed characters and vivid, accurate descriptions mark this story from page one to the end, and will keep you turning pages. I’m not normally a fan of mixing genres, but Giguere does a fairly good job of it. It would actually have been a great story without the ending.

I would have given it four stars... that is until I hit the very end. That totally psyched me up to read the sequel and in a hurry.
This book contains loads of good action, characters that continue improving to the end, and the cliffhanger is quite possibly the best for this sort of genre I could have imagined.

Being Russian, it also tickles me pink that the very few details that Rejean writes about actually are right on, things like words they use, first and last names, maybe even some of the cocky attitudes (although world has enough of those all around :)

Very well written, looking forward to the sequel - thumbs up!

Great book wanted more in the ending.

I received this book free for a honest review and I really liked it up until the end. It was a great suspense/thriller about Gary and Chantal trying to figure out why Septon is kidnapping people off the streets. Why people with migraines are the ones they are looking for. Then Gary starts to figure out the message from people with the migraines and goes cross county following the clues. While they are going cross county members from the Septon organization are hot on their heels to prevent them from getting too far. There is a lot of action and suspense in the book. Then the ending just ends. I thought there should be a little more to the ending.
