دوستانِ گرانقدر، اصلِ داستان در موردِ تناسخ و اینگونه مسائلِ موهوم است.. درست است که از بدیِ کینه و نفرت داشتن سخن میگوید، ولی همان گداپروری و بدبختیِ مذهبی و دینی را تبلیغ میکند.. مراقبه و گدایی کردن برای رسیدن به مقامِ والا و خودشناسی.. کارِ نابخردانه ای که هیچ سودی برایِ انسان و انسانیت نداشته و نخواهد داشت... از آن همه آموزه هایِ نیک و خوبِ بودا و درس ها و آداب زندگی و اخلاق، متأسفانه این پلشتها در طولِ تاریخ، همین گداپروری و بدبختی را فهم کرده اند... البته خودِ «امانوئل اشمیت» هم نمیداند با خویش چندچند است.. در جایی میگوید ترحم خوب نیست و در جایِ دیگر میگوید ترحم بهترین است.. درکل داستانی نیست که بخواهم برایِ خواندن، آن را سفارش کنم
داستان در موردِ مردی 38 ساله به نام «سیمون» است که همیشه توهمات و کابوس هایی در موردِ نفرت از یک شخص و قصدِ کشتن آن شخص رهایش نمیکند.. سیمون با زنی پریشان رو ملاقات میکند و او میگوید نامِ اصلی تو «اسواستیکا» بوده است.. اگر میخواهی روحت را از کابوس ها و توهماتی که میبینی را پاک کنی، باید داستانِ «میلاروپا» راهب و مرتاضِ بزرگ را صدهزار بار تعریف کنی!!!!!... اینگونه از سامارا یا همان مهاجرتِ دَوَرانی و بی پایان نجات خواهی یافت
سیمون به تبت میرود و در رویاها و توهماتش متوجه میشود که در زندگیِ گذشته نامش اسواستیکا بوده است.. و در زمان 900 سال.. در جانوارانِ گوناگون تناسخ داشته است
و اما داستانِ اسواستیکا و میلاروپا از جایی آغاز میشود که اسواستیکا همه چیزش را از دست میدهد و با خانواده اش به منزلِ پسرعمویش میرود.. پسرعمویش قبل از مرگ بچه ها و مال و اموالش را به اسواستیکا میسپارد.. یکی از بچه های او میلاروپا نام دارد که شش سال دارد و قرار است تا زمانی که او بزرگ شود، این مال و اموال به او برسد.. ولی اسواستیکا از او خوشش نمی آید... خلاصه اسواستیکا مال و اموالِ پسرعمویش را بالا میکشد و میلاروپا، مادر وخواهرش را به فلاکت و بدبختی میکشاند... سالها بعد، میلاروپا تبدیل به جادوگری نیرومند شده و با جادو و نفرین، تمامِ خانواده و مال و داراییِ اسواستیکا و حتی مردمِ دهکده را نابود میکند
بعدها میلاروپا که وجودش از کینه پُر شده و دریافته است که اسیرِ سیاهی و تاریکی شده است، به کاهنی بزرگ به نام «مارپا» پناه میبرد تا مارپا او را آموزش داده و وجودش را پاک کند.. میلاروپا در آن صومعه قصد دارد حکمتِ بودا را آموزش ببیند.. ولی در روزهایِ نخست، مرید بودن و شاگردیِ مارپا را کردن، چیزی جز توهین، کتک خوردن و ناامیدی برایِ او به همراه ندارد.. البته بعدها مارپا او را قبول کرده و او ماه ها در غاری تاریک بدونِ آب و خوراک مراقبه میکند و به کاهنی بزرگ و معروف تبدیل میشود.. و در ادامۀ داستان باید دید رابطۀ اسواستیکا و میلاروپا به کجا می انجامد

An exhortation that seems to me as appropriate as a conclusion of reading " Milarepa" .

A book that doesn't pose too many problems of interpretation.
Although it is conceived as a novel, " Milarepa" does not think that it really falls into this category, being rather a sketch of what could be developed in a novel.
In fact, it is a story in which methaphysical problems are evoked, but, in essence, the message is a simple one : the importance of spiritual fulfillment goes beyond ( or should it ) - any worldly desire.
The basic idea would be that the obsession for accumulation of worldly riches - only leads to an increasingly heavy captivity of the spirit. If in Christianity neglecting the spirit leads to the loss of heaven, in buddhism, the deepening of the matter has as a consequence the reincarnation, which, however interesting we may find it, - is seen as something bad, as the impossibility to get out of the body trap. People, when they are frustrated with worldly desires, start changing the object : they start making otherworldly objects of desire - heaven, paradise, and all the joys of heaven. But it is the same trick, the mind is again befooling you. From a wordly point of view, there is no mistake so great as that of being always right. If the principles of contentment are not within us, the height of station and worldly grandeur will as soon add a cubit to a man's stature as to his happiness.

" Milarepa" I think was conceived as a kind of narrative suitable for those who wishes for philosophical ideas, translated into a literary language, and, especially accesible. I think, if you have read at least Eliade, the style of "Milarepa" - will seem quite simple to you.

Stilul mi s-a părut destul de asemănător cu al lui Coelho - misticism, spiritualitate și redescoperirea sinelui.

داستان ریشه توی چیزایی داره که من باهاشون ارتباط برقرار نمی کنم مثل سحر و جادو و همینطور تناسخ یعنی این که ما قبلا توی زندگی های قبلیمون شخص دیگه ای بودیم و در کل زندگی های قبلی داشتیم. سعی میکنه نشون بده یه آدمی که خیلی به دیگران بدی کرده هم می تونه با درد کشیدن و عذاب زیاد و دل کندن از خیلی چیزای این دنیا، به پاکی برسه. در کل جذابیتی نداشت اصلا برام و چیزی ازش یاد نگرفتم و بهم اضافه نکرد. یک سری حرفاش هم که کمی جنبه ی معنوی داشت بسیار تکراری بود و با نحوه ی بیان قوی ای هم گفته نشده بود که آدمو جذب کنه.
من با ترجمه ی سروش حبیبی این کتابو خوندم که ترجمه ی نسبتا سنگینی بود و معمولا کتابای اشمیت اینجوری ترجمه نمیشن ولی خب این کتاب کلا شبیه بقیه کتابای اشمیت نبود چندان.

Autorul Eric Emmanuel Schmitt ne aduce in prim plan poveste lui Milarepa, un calugar tibetan, prin prisma viziunii unchiului sau. Milarepa s-a nascut intr-o familie de nobili. La varsta de 7 ani tatal sau moare si toata averea, casa si pamanturile cad pe mainile unui unchi tiranic si lacom. In dorinta sa de razbunare, Milarepa savarseste numeroase crime. Regretandu-si actiunile, Milarepa cauta iertare la preamaritul Lama, Marele Marpa.

Desi nu rezonez deloc cu scrisul lui Eric Emmanuel Schmitt, mi-a placut directia in care a luat-o cartea aceasta. Trateaza atat subiecte despre conditia umana, mila, razbunarea si pedeapsa cat si o credinta profunda a indienilor, reincarnarea.

I was markedly underwhelmed by this book. Having previously read and absolutely loved the third book in "Le cycle de l'invisible", "Oscar et la dame rose" (the one about Christianity), I was looking forward to returning to the beginning of the series and reading "Milarepa" (the one about Tibetan Buddhism).

However, this book simply delivered the story of Milarepa, without reflecting on its meaning at all. The Buddhist legend is interspersed with surreal vignettes from the narrator's life that left me cold. In the end, I didn't find it at all philosophically thought-provoking, in contrast to the third book of the series.

Schmitt made "Oscar" a unique and touching story, but for some reason he wasn't able to add that compelling personal touch to "Milarepa". For anyone interested in Éric-Emmanuel Schmitt, I would suggest skipping this book and starting with "Oscar et la dame rose" instead, regardless of your religious leanings.

Am adorat "Oscar și Tanti Roz" și mi-a plăcut destul de mult "Domnul Ibrahim și florile din Coran". "Elixirul dragostei" mi s-a părut o carte bună pentru o după-amiază ploioasă, dar "Milarepa" nu e unul dintre cărțile pe care aș recomand-o.

Dacă vă plac poveştile „iniţiatice”, cu eroi care trec printr-un proces crâncen al desăvârşirii spirituale prin meditaţie şi renunţare, atunci cartea lui Eric-Emmanuel Schmitt, Milarepa, este lectura potrivită. L’Express numea Milarepa o „extraordinară poveste metafizică”, dar eu n-aş merge atât de departe: Milarepa este o poveste în care sunt atinse probleme „metafizice”, în care sunt rulate idei specifice budismului tibetan, dar, în esenţă, mesajul este unul simplu şi se poate descifra fără prea multe cunoştinţe în domeniu: importanţa împlinirii spirituale depăşeşte – sau ar trebui să depăşească – orice dorinţă lumească.

Milarepa face parte din trilogia cu Oscar şi Tanti Roz şi Domnul Ibrahim şi florile din Coran [ cronica aici], şi cred că ar trebui citite toate trei ca un întreg, aşa cum le-a conceput şi autorul, pentru că doar aşa sensul lor devine complex.

Fiecare dintre cele trei cărţi abordează câte o perspectivă religioasă diferită – în Oscar şi Tanti Roz, personajul descoperă prin creştinism împăcarea cu moartea, în Domnul Ibrahim şi florile Coranului, se vobeşte despre înţelepciunea islamică şi, în acelaşi timp, despre cât de asemănătoare sunt, de fapt, creştinismul, iudaismul şi islamismul dacă trecem peste toate barierele ridicate doar de om, iar în Milarepa, Schmitt aduce în discuţie idei dintr-o religie îndepărtată de stilul nostru de viaţă şi care par cu atât mai dificil de aplicat: trebuie să renunţi la împlinirile mărunte şi să te concentrezi pe transcenderea materialului, căci numai aşa vei reuşi să scapi de eterna reîntoarcere, de reîncarnarea în lumea materială, considerată, evident, inferioară. Milarepa întrupează poetul, sfântul, ascetul şi stăpânul spiritual. S-a născut în anul 1040 în sud-vestul Tibetului, într-o familie de nobili. Tatăl său a murit când el avea doar şapte ani. Împreună cu mama şi sora sa, cad pe mâinile unui unchi şi unei mătuşi tiranici şi lacomi, care îi sărăcesc. Când s-a făcut mare, să se răzbune, mama sa l-a trimis să înveţe magia neagră. Așadar, cartea această tratează budismul, aducându-ni-l între pagini pe Milarepa, a cărui poveste fascinează prin atingerea unei realizări spirituale superioare, profunde, toate astea după o periadă neagră, diabolică, în care, împins pe la spate de către mama sa, acesta comite numeroase crime practicând magia neagră.

First book in the Invisible Cycle series, but fun fact: the second and third books I have already read years ago.

This book wasn't less better than the others. I truly enjoyed it, even though it was weird and was about Buddhism, more or less. But even though I am a christian and not a buddhist, I really liked some aspects of this religion as well and the characters, weird as usual in Eric's books, were still impressing.

The ending was a bit confusing but overall I truly liked this one.

4.5 stars.

O carte care își propune să abordeze câteva idei interesate, însă care, din punctul meu de vedere, nu reușește să intre în profunzimea acestora.

Comparând cu Siddhartha (Hesse), cărți ale lui Eliade, Cele 40 legi ale iubirii (Shafak), sau poate chiar și cu Alchimistul lui Coelho, stilul se dovedește a fi simplut. O idee cunoscută de altfel și transmisă în formă aproape brută, care nu oferă timp cititorului nici să digere mesajul, nici să apuce să se familiarizeze cu personajele.

Asemenea acelei femei la fel de vagi ca fumul din țigara pe care o fuma din carte, cartea în sine începe și se termină fără a lăsa urme prea profunde în mintea celui care îi parcurge rândurile.

به گريه افتادم. خيال كرده بودم كه خود را از همه قيد ها آزاد و از گرانى مال سبكبار كرده ام و با اين حال اين سفالينه اين سبوى بى مقدار ثروت من شده و دلم را به خود بند كرده و بر من سلطه يافته بود و در همان لحظه اى كه مى شكست و به فنا مى پيوست تسلط خود را بر من مسجل كرده بود زيرا بر عواطف من اثر گذاشته بود. سفالينه من بود ولى بيش از آنكه آن به من تعلق داشت من در بند آن اسير بودم.

Merely 64 pages long -this probably classifies more as a short story- Schmitt conveys a full, philosophically deep account, like a Buddhist parable (Schmitt would kill me for this expression). For me the benefit of this rather short book was to read it in one go and thus experiencing all its ideas in a connected, continuous way. A big idea that flutters around throughout the pages is reincarnation and its effects and burdens. The book develops through the original drama in Tibet and at a few points winds back (or forth) to contemporary Paris. I liked the Parisian scenes a lot, for they offer the most beautiful sentences: "Montmartre est beau ce soir. Paris est un décor. Le Tibet, un autre décor. Le vent devrait agiter plus souvent les toiles des décors pour qu'y frémisse le souffle du néant." (60) They are the kind of sentences that open some kind of inner curtains to show small aesthetic glimpses on philosophical landscapes. The last page tells of smart story build-up, so i was happy of reading this book. Four stars because i wanted more.

«Aqueles que estão cheios de desejos e de rancores vulgares não podem fazer nada pelos outros. E não fazem nada de útil por si mesmos. É como se um homem arrastado pela corrente tentasse salvar os outros.» Este é um dos ensinamentos principais desta história curta mas intensa, contada através de monólogo, que fala sobre transmigração de almas.

Това е първата книга от „религиозната“ поредица на Шмит. Кратка и постна до кости точно като будизма. Прилича повече на притча, дори дзен коан в по-дълга литературна форма. История за изкуплението на омразата, породена от завистта, породил�� омраза, довело до отмъщение, изкупено с пот, кръв и страдание, довели до смирение, дало просвещение. Накратко е това :)

O poveste intensa si tulburatoare, pe alocuri, despre sensurile ascunse ale vietii si despre cum binele este, adesea, un efort mai mare decat raul. Nu este preferata mea de la Eric Emmanuel Schmitt, dar este o poveste fantastica frumoasa.

Desiring too much disturbs your soul.

This book is pretty straight to the point. A retelling of Milarepa's story that doesn't take its time to analyze the events told within it. This could be seen as careless or unfinished, but I think this is the whole point of the book. The reader has to come up with its own conclusion. It's about rejecting instant gratification and allowing yourself to form your own personal opinion on it. This is accentuated even more in one short scene in the book where Simon is telling the story to a friend who doesn't really understand the point of the story. Simon is being asked what he thinks himself of the story he's telling. To that Simon answers "But I don't have opinions, I'm just telling stories.". I think this is a break in the forth wall, the author speaking directly to the reader, telling them that they won't find all the answers here and it's pointless to expect that. Interesting approach although most readers would be turned off by this.

For someone who hasn't had that much contact with the Buddhism, the idea of having to let go of everything you care about in order to move forward in life and be free is very thought provoking. Maybe desire and attachment are the sources of our soul's degradation. I also thought it was a realistic portray of what it looks to rewire your brain. Milarepa isolating himself didn't completely cure his desire. Even if he didn't realize it, desire caught up on him and took another form - him being sad when we drops and breaks the clay pot. Although being in a low point, he picks himself up from it and steps over the grass that was being stuck inside the pot - he takes back his power over his loss. Healing is not a linear process and it sometimes hits you when you least expect it, but if you keep going you might find the light at the end of the tunnel.
