After nearly a century and a half of indulging in his dark desire for blood and lust William Corvin has come to one inevitable conclusion; he is tired of the game. He is tired of pitying the ones around him. The ones who dare to follow the tide of their hearts; unaware that their actions will lead to their inevitable undoing. He was tired of living the vampire life. Tired of working for wicked people who would only ask him to do equally wicked things; could the love of an equally lost soul save him? Or would this be his life until time and times are done?
I am a writer, . I was born in Rockford, IL in 1980. I currently reside in Alachua, Fl.
I have always wanted to tell stories and 5 years ago I decided to do it. I dug deep into myself and I found my passion. Vampires and romance. My first book Deadly Liaisons is the product of such focus.
Deadly Liaisons is about a vampire who after many centuries of blood lust has grown tired of the game. He wants a different life a better one. One Halloween night on his way to a yearly party in the woods. He sees a girl being attacked by three vampires. There was something about her. Something he just could not place, something familiar. He liked her look so he took it upon himself to save her.
In the dead of night nothing is what it seems, especially on oh hollows eve.
Not to be all Mariah Carey from American Idol and all but there was just so much a good editor (I hope) would have caught and suggested about the logic within the book that I just don't feel the need to go there.
The problems show themselves within the first few pages of the book and pretty much point to how the rest of the book will go but I persevered for a while. There were just to many issues and I spent to much time trying to get past them.
The book however taught me a valuable lession, that just becuase someone is on goodreads does not mean I should spend my hard earned money on their books. At first I wanted to contact Amazon and demand my money back but I took the lesson learned route. Next I wanted to rage against the book in my review here (and no this isn't raging) but I know it takes a lot to write and the author completed a book which is more than what I have done at this time so who am I.
So for the author I submit this:
If you can pull up all the times in this story where your heroine giggles, your bad guy kill'in, I have no emotional compass killing machine - giggles..... really. It pretty quickly felt like the girl was channeling the joker and I waited for it to end but it didn't. I had to read this at the rate of a couple of pages at a time because the logic centers in my brain kept spinning. So many problem and logic shorts could have been fixed before Amazon released this... I was glad that they dropped the price because I think paying that much would have just gotten people mad.
The contradictions need to be examined, I couldn't figure out the stories logic, you kept going back on what you said she wouldn't do or feel, to the point where the book had a cartoon feel to it.
With this all said, I hope you continue to follow your passion, you wouldn't be the first or the last person to write a not so hot first book and the second book is fantantastic. Get someone who is invested in seeing you succeed - give the book a read and tell you where you can make it better. Read your favorite book and see how it flows, what brings you up and down. Also watch out for pop culture references they don't always work for the good of your story.
William is a vampire looking for something more in his existence. One Halloween he saves a woman from a small group of vampires. Eveva is grateful for Williams help in saving her from the other vampires. There is a strong attraction between them but will William feel the same when he finds out what she is, and can they ever be together?
William seems to me like he is on the outside looking in. He has interactions with other vampires, but to me he seems prefer being solitary. He also strikes me as a romantic of sorts. Eveva is an orderly, which means she works to keep peace between the vampires and humans. Her kind is hated and feared. I initially thought her personality to be really flighty, but proves she can be serious when she needs to be.
Technically the book had quite a few misspelled words. I could get past it, but it was noticeable. I hope this is something that is addressed in the future. The very beginning of the book grabbed me. The first thing that peaked my interest was simply trying to figure Eveva out. The second thing that grabbed me was the interaction between Eveva and William. After that things really slowed down for me, and I struggled through the middle of the book, but I was pleased when it picked up again towards the end. The relationship between William and Eveva is not what a reader usually sees in the typical romance, and leaves the reader wondering what will happen between the two.
Deadly Liaisons is the debut novel from Agnew, and although there is room for improvement there is definite potential.
